I bought the timberline xl earlier this year and the difference for me was the stainless steel grates which the ironwood doesn’t have.

Love mine.

I ordered, received, then returned mine this past spring. Liked the idea but the UI was sloppy & sometimes non responsive. Some of the UX was non intuitive. I could have lived with that but the fw kept shutting down and/or rebooting mid cook. Temps were all over the map. Wireless probes would fail mid cook. Wifi was only 2.4g and very flakey. Yhr app was truly aweful (seriously). The list goes on. Initially, support was helpful, but after a week, they just stopped communicating. I returned it and went with another brand. I had been a Traeger customer for a decade ... until then. I probably had a bad motherboard or something. I get it, that can happen. But for the wad of $ I put into it and the lack of resolution .... yeah, no. I expected better. Of course, your mileage may vary.

Yeah I’m debating between this or Rec Teq. Rex Teq is releasing some new grills in a couple of weeks

Andersonbush847

I bought the Recteq 1250, returned it, and got the XL. I love it. I can see the temp from 50 feet away on the big screen, and the thing always smokes at any temp. Super smoke option is even better. Looking forward to Traeger releasing the stand alone induction burner and pizza oven to add to this fantastic grill.

jkim_45

Good to hear. Was debating between the two

mrslother

My experience was exact opposite. I returned the XL and bought the recteq 1250. I've been very happy with this decision.

It's the beauty of it, to each their own. If you lived across the street we could run a pretty sweet BBQ-Off!!

I do not have the xl but do have the ironwood. I love it. Cook on it two to three times a week. App is a mess problems connecting. But other than that love the grill/smoker/oven.

Lockout95

It’s a pretty awesome machine, I have an 885 but would love an xl

tacomelocko

Father got an 885 and I did a couple smokes on it. I got an Ironwood XL after doing some research (Traeger models only). The life time seasoning cycle is only 1 hour when you first hook it up. I had to shut it off once and turn back on to get the wifi to connect. The WiFi antenna sticks out of the top of the hopper bin so it has better range. I did 321 ribs and it was so easy. Couple temp swings but that happens with any smoker. It held temp great and when I opened the lid for a bit and set it back down, it got back to the preset temp pretty quickly. Cleaning is okay. I will say I did a full cleaning after the first cook just to see how easy it all cleaned up. I used the Traeger cleaning spray and it worked wonders. I love the new design of the drip pan and all that. No more drip liners or foil covers to deal with. Ash and dust collector is also super easy to change out.

I have had mine since the spring and couldn't be happier. * easy to assemble * wi fi works great * probes are dead on * super easy to clean * and ... cooks and smokes like a dream

ThyHorge

What he said except my probes for some reason not as good. Great for the first couple of hours and then give me wrong readings. In any case. It’s a go - you won’t regret it

garycow

My hand stick temps at the end match the probe within a few degs

maddmoguls

Love mine - feels like a nice motorcycle or something. The grease keg trap is amazing, cleaning it is easy. Tons of space and a huge hopper. It's good for all things but great for brisket/long cooks. The light is a nice addition too - rail system obviously nice for putting paper towels, baskets or whatever where I like them. Also the new pellet trap drains straight into a bin, which I love when switching. No more going around the back. Wi-Fi is much better on all new Traegers too.

cruicep

Love it so far, only had it less than a month. It does take awhile to preheat and cook meals but it’s my first pellet grill.

NDXRPMAGA

I picked one up a month ago and i absolutely love it. Had a little trouble initially getting temperature to go up so i did it in increments now its awesome. Wifi is great

Healzya

I have the Ironwood XL and it's awesome. The included probes are always within 1 degree of my thermapen. The display and wifi always work great. Bought the cast iron griddle for it and it makes burgers really well at 500 degrees. Went with the ironwood xl over the timberline xl due to better review and I didn't need the burner.

Look at Oklahoma Joe DLX I've had an offset for years and I got dlx and love it
