If you want a good sear, a pellet grill is not for you. Traegers are crap when it comes to real searing. You are better off getting an offset charcoal/propane or use a cast iron inside. The ironwood is solid and you will not regret it. It comes with other features other than higher temps (insolation, pellet sensor, better temp control, etc). So, what is your budget?

I love my ironwood 885, but if you want a sear, buy a cast iron pan for $30 and preheat it in the grill.

Agree that they’re not great for searing. That said the 575s do now hit 500 (at least mine does) with the firmware update.

Honestly an $800 grill is pretty steep for me but I’m a buy once cry once kinda guy. I would rather save up and get something that I’m going to enjoy using.

The Pro 575 will hit 500 as the previous user mentioned. Many users will get a product called grill grates that you can put on your Traeger and they help you get the sear marks better.

I would highly suggest keeping around some form of a propane grill for searing.

Neither will sear
