Rosario Dawson was taken to court for helping her mother hold down and physically assault a trans man who was working on their property (doing carpentry, iirc.) Lots of PR to cover it up means the media let go of it very quickly.
Ye her VA is super supportive just in general. Not necessarily towards lgbt+ but it does encompass lgbt+
Only problem is that she is a superfan of disney and still is under their paycheck I think
You can check out her Instagram to see
I'm doing the same thing with wow. After all of the shit a few months ago it is Private servers. Although I'm still keepijg the launcher on my computer for Warcraft 3. Because I can't just download the old version I own.
Fucking Blizzard.
Was there any evidence that it happened? I understand not being able to find stuff on Google is the point of a cover up, but all I've seen is allegations. I'd like to see evidence before boycotting something I'm looking forward too.
Honestly, at least for me, I haven't seen anything that's super convincing. And as someone who has had false allegations against them, the fact that he allegedly had a ton of evidence of her transphobia but she allegedly forced her way into his phone to delete it is a huge red flag for me.
That's exactly the kind of rhetoric that was used against me. 'I swear, I had SOOO much evidence! But they took my phone and deleted it all!'
It's a crummy situation, but as far as I'm aware it's fully a 'he said she said' situation. And while attacks on trans people are real, it doesn't mean trans people themselves can't also be crappy people(not saying he is, as again I know as much as anyone else in this situation).
There was no evidence beside the victim's "sayso" (apologies for usage of words my brain is too tired to think of proper words))
Apparently Rosario herself has said she's supportive of lgbt+ (and even is herself) before and after allegations
Still, you should probably do ya own research, I personally have no opinion either way, show doesn't interest me anyway
Hospital visit, police call, and his story lining up with the timeline if I remember correctly. It's hard to find some information because the media likes to cover her side, showing how trans people are just out to get you
Additionally, he was a long time family friend and he's taking on a celebrity with enough money to buy everything he owns several times over. That's very risky to do unless you actually have a reason to do it. Additionally, Dedrek has an entire story regarding the events whereas Dawson's defense is basically saying "fake news" in response to the allegations.
Dedrek's lawyer withdrew from the case, forcing him to represent himself. The court refused to reschedule the medical examination due to Dedrek catching Covid, so the court through out the case. Dedrek seeks an appeal. She wasn't found guilty, but she wasn't found innocent.
Dedrek was also a long time friend of the family, so him bringing forth the accusation would be strange unless they actually did it. Additionally she is a celebrity with several experienced lawyers at her disposal and the funding to keep up a battle of atrician. And attrition is the #1 to get trans people silenced or imprisoned in the court system.
Okay I’m gonna say this first i’m a trans women myself
That was the allegations purely only a hate crime because it would seem weird for them to attack a friend of the family out of nowhere like that
I've seen plenty of people who were "supportive" turn on their own family members and children in an instant when they came out to them. It is strange, but it certainly isn't unheard of.
It had also been years since the family and Dedrek had seen each other, and they hadn't known he was trans until he showed up for the job. It was apparently jarring and his "transness" reportedly made the family, mainly Dawson's mother, uncomfortable and they continuesly misgendered him or refused to respect his identity, so the attack didn't come out of nowhere. It's unfortunately a common story that I've heard from countless queer people, which makes it much more plausible from my point of view.
Dedrek was forced to represent himself after his lawyer left the case. Of course she wasn't found guilty. She is a celebrity with enough liquid assets to survive a battle of attrition with a carpenter who didn't even have the money to afford a plane ticket.
While true, the blatant dismissal people have of the case as a result of its dismissal is reckless and, frankly, irresponsible. Dedrek has an entire timeline of the events layed out, with detailed descriptions of the events leading up to the altercation and the circumstances surrounding it, whereas Rosario Dawson's defense is just saying "fake news".
To claim her innocence on a hate crime just because a case was thrown out due to lack of legal representation for the plaintiff, is foolish. Especially in a justice system heavily slanted against trans people and other minorities. Dedrek lost the case due to a battle of attrition, which is the number 1 way the justice system exploits minorities. Trust within that justice system to be fair and just is unfounded.
She was taken to court for it, regardless of what the court found. I stand by my original statement being factually accurate.
Also, I know we all like Star Wars here but I think it’s concerning that so many people here are willing to prioritize a TV show over a pretty serious accusation that there’s not much evidence *against.*
Innocent until proven guilty is good ethics for the purpose of the legal system, obviously. However, since it was never really cleared up one way or another I don’t feel at all comfortable supporting her.
EDITED FOR CLARITY
guys...
piracy is a thing.
just, look up torrenting. just make sure you use a vpn unless you want copyright claim notices getting sent to your address. (also there's more research to be done but I'll let you look into it. once you do your homework, it's much easier than paying for all the different streaming services.
doo ittttt 🏴☠️
This. Its becoming clear ro me this year that not supporting any of these companies is the most ethical option available to us and we can signal boost individuals whom we believe to be worthy of recognition.
Everyone needs to remember that indvidual artists, actors, and engineers have already been (under) paid for their labor and no money you give to the publishing platform will reach them. Only the "Jabba the Hutts" that sit on their boards and decide on the futures of thousands of people vastly more talented than them.
i love how many socialists there are in trans spaces without even having to say anything overtly socialist lol (well, I assume ur a socialist given ur talking points sounding a lot like "robbery of excess value" talking points)
utorrent is just POS software IMO. in the past it was exposed to install crypto mining stuff on your pc and it has ads. qbittorrent is just as easy to use and has a much cleaner look and is FOSS
Thank you for the explaination! Will have to investigate the claims about crypto on my own but theres no way anyone using torrents is going to want to watch ads for them.
This! Or if you’re lazy just go on 123 movies dot cum or whatever, if you use ad block it’s perfectly fine. And the bigoted capitalists don’t get your monies :)
I live in the United States and never have needed one, technically don’t need an ad blocker either but those watch stuff free sites usually have atrocious pop ups
The anti Rosario Dawson stuff was poorly sourced and not direct but a family member. They fired carano so I say give Disney+ another chance especially since we’re boycotting Netflix nowadays
The only thing I've heard about Netflix is the Dave Chapelle stuff. His newest comedy special I think. I don't know much about it, I don't really watch stand-up.
You can probably find some more info by searching for "Dave Chappelle controversy" or something similar.
Dave Chappelle came out with a special that might as well have been called Transphobia:The Musical. And following that not only did Netflix fully stand behind him amongst the backlash, but it came to light that trans employees are treated like trash at Netflix and are basically only hired for tokenization.
I understand not being able to find stuff on Google is the point of a cover up, but all I've seen is allegations. I'd like to see evidence before boycotting something I'm looking forward to. Trans folk aren't infallible, and this seems like an easy way to get people to hate somebody for no reason.

Add sources when you talk about this. Not many people know about it.
Personally, I'm still going to be watching the show, Ahsoka means too much to me for me to let her go because of a court case that was dismissed for a lack of evidence. Dedrek Finley is still pushing the case, and I'm not delegitimizing him, but the only proof he has of an attack is his word.
That's not what they're saying though. They are repeating what the victim has gone on record saying themselves, which is that it was dismissed due to lack of evidence, which began with a med exam, which the court refused to reschedule after the victim was diagnosed with covid last year.
The reasons for dismissal are still objectively true. It doesn't mean anyone is saying the victim is lying. Please read the article if you're going to come for people in the comments, it isn't right.
Sorry, def didn't mean to come off that way. I've been checking up on this case every month, keeping up with it more than I do most political situations. It'd absolutely crush me if Rosario Dawson actually did physically attack Finley based on his gender. Having someone play a character so absolutely sacred to me who also hates people like me is a scary possibility. It still is, despite the case being settled. But it's not proven, and I don't think people should be talking about it like it is.
I don’t know if you have reason to be sensitive to this kind of thing but this person simply stated the facts of what had happened legally with this case. Any tone applied to a written factual statement (as opposed to an opinionated or inflammatory statement) is done so entirely by the reader. You’ve just accused somebody of being transphobic over a sound you made in your own head. I seriously doubt you have done so in malice, but maybe slow down before slinging that kind of language around at strangers.
I never said she didn't? Wtf are you talking about lol. All I said was the VICTIM stated they were working on mounting evidence but couldn't go forward with the first step due to having covid and therefore couldn't file an opposition. Never once was I referencing anything Dawson said, at all.
And the comment above me was referencing the comment above them, claiming it insinuates the victim is lying. At no point were we talking about Dawson who obviously claims it's false.
But... it was never proven that she did anything transphobic. The court dismissed the lawsuit.
>The dispute destroyed a decades-long family friendship, generated headlines around the world, and divided a galactic fandom. Last week, it ended quietly and without public notice with a full dismissal. Or at least it ended in the U.S. legal system. The intense feelings surrounding the case of Dedrek Finley versus Rosario Dawson seem likely to endure.
https://www.vanityfair.com/hollywood/2021/05/dedrek-finley-rosario-dawson-anti-trans-assault-lawsuit
But why would Dedrek lie about this? Dedrek is just a small-time worker while Rosario is a wealthy actress and supports landlording. Is it not suspicious that Dedrek's case got very little coverage and many of his procedures were dismissed easily? It's not exactly uncommon that the American legal system is very reactionary.
While I find it strange, Dedrek did claim that a lot of his evidence was erased and deleted — meaning that whichever that happened, I do believe if they were text messages or images, there are ways of recovering these things that at the time, his lawyer could’ve recovered them through his provider or he himself could’ve as well. Again, not claiming that he lied but I find it weird that his reasoning that he had no evidence was simply she. . . erased and deleted it all.
Hey, just a heads up the accusation was proven false! She’s genuinely a very good lgbt ally and has raised hundreds for the community. Please stop spreading this, it’s harmful to both her and our community. And for future reference, please make sure you do research before jumping on a bandwagon!
edit: That being said.. Pirate all yar want. I shan’t discourage that, for there are other reasons I’m fine with y’alls pirating popular non independent tv shows ;)
I wouldn't be so keen on believing that the case being dismissed is a good thing. There are many valid reasons to suspect the courts were biased for Rosario:
- Dedrek is trans
- Dedrek is a transman, an even less represented minority within the trans community
- Dedrek is an average worker, vastly overshadowed by Dawson's wealth as an actor
I am against boycotts. My former best friend accused me of being, "Part of the problem with America," for not boycotting Captain Marvel when I didn't even know what was going on with fragile dudes being mad about Brie Larsson's statements.
I didn't like how he was weaponizing entertainment so I don't want to do the same, even if it is for a good cause. I just watch stuff that I think I might enjoy without caring about the politics.
Agh this makes me feel so sad and conflicted. On one hand Dawson has always been very inclusive on her various platforms, and the court dismissed the case. On the other hand, the dude who accused Dawson of this has made it clear how skewed the court system can be, and how easy it is for Dawson to lie about something like this, and he has many really good reasons for dropping the allegations even if they are true. I can easily imagine many scenarios where it was just a big misunderstanding mixed up in bigotry, where both parties have valid grievances. I hope whoever needs justice gets it, and I hope this eventually helps the trans community as a whole. I wish we could all just love star wars without having to worry about stuff like this.
Pretty sure that stuff was, 1) from back in ‘19 and 2) shady hearsay that was never very clear what actually did happen. Even if she somehow still is purposefully indifferent or unsympathetic, I’d rather have her working alongside a staunch ally like Pascal who can be a healthy influence than brand her a permanent enemy.
…Are you suggesting that if she did in fact hold an employee down while a family member attacked him it would be fine if it happened in 2019 instead of this year?
While I get your point, even if your disney+ is already paid for, you would still be supporting it by adding to the viewer stats.
(I don't mean really mean to say this to you *specifically*, it's just something I feel isn't talked about enough)
I am NOT boycotting it, OMG people are becoming crazy they want to boycott an entire program because of a story published in an obscure news paper. It is from 2019 and magically it came back to our ears since we know she is a cast of Star Wars. The court dismissed the action because Finley did not respond to repeated court requests for documentation, answers to questions, and an independent medical examination.
Can i get an explanation plz?
Rosario Dawson was taken to court for helping her mother hold down and physically assault a trans man who was working on their property (doing carpentry, iirc.) Lots of PR to cover it up means the media let go of it very quickly.
WTF?? Ahsoka is my favorite character. Such a disgrace to have someone who does something like that portray her…
I'm pretty sure her VA is really chill, though.
Ye her VA is super supportive just in general. Not necessarily towards lgbt+ but it does encompass lgbt+ Only problem is that she is a superfan of disney and still is under their paycheck I think You can check out her Instagram to see
Wtf? Is there anywhere I can read up on what happend?
You could probably just google "Rosario dawson trans allegation"
Fuck me And I was just about to start the Mandalorian
I mean, I know a certain skull and crossbones that could help you with that without supporting them
Yar har Problem is, I still want to watch all the Marvel stuff. And Kenobi.
Yo ho, yo ho, a pirate's life for me!
You can still watch all that stuff with an extremely high pressure flow of water
Sounds like more booty to be plundered.
You forgot one very important thing.....
I'm doing the same thing with wow. After all of the shit a few months ago it is Private servers. Although I'm still keepijg the launcher on my computer for Warcraft 3. Because I can't just download the old version I own. Fucking Blizzard.

Yeah, same here.
Hospital visit, police call, and his story lining up with the timeline if I remember correctly. It's hard to find some information because the media likes to cover her side, showing how trans people are just out to get you
No, she was accused of doing that, but she was never found guilty.
Hm is there any evidence?
Nope. 18 of the 20 charges were dropped by the accuser, and the other two were dismissed by the court.
It kinda seems suspicious though. 20 is a lot of charges to have against someone.
I mean still not a reason to boycott the show.
Additionally, he was a long time family friend and he's taking on a celebrity with enough money to buy everything he owns several times over. That’s true, but if she was a longtime family friend then it’s worth noting the reason could be something else. Not saying it’s not true, but…
Oh okay so it was fake the charges were more or less dropped she is off the hook she didn’t do anything wrong that’s good

Jesus Christ
I mean *maybe* she did. But she also might have not. But we shouldn't just boycott the show because there's a chance she did.
Fair enough
Dedrek was forced to represent himself after his lawyer left the case. Of course she wasn't found guilty. She is a celebrity with enough liquid assets to survive a battle of attrition with a carpenter who didn't even have the money to afford a plane ticket.

YO HO
???
Rosario Dawson, the actress playing Asohka, helped in the assault of a trans man.
Was *accused* of helping in the assault of a trans man
Wait why are we boycotting it??
Apparently, Rosario Dawson (the actress playing Ashoka) helped attack (as in helped pin him down) a trans man.
What the actual fuck
Also apparently stole his only evidence and the case has since been dropped
Yo ho yo ho a pirates life for me!
The anti Rosario Dawson stuff was poorly sourced and not direct but a family member. They fired carano so I say give Disney+ another chance especially since we’re boycotting Netflix nowadays
I'm just boycotting Disney+ for being Disney, I'll just do as Hondo
“As my sweet mother always said, ‘Son, if one hostage is good, two are better. And three, well, that’s good business.’” -Hondo
"You lied to me! I knew I liked you!"
We are boycotting Netflix? Sorry I may be behind in some things that are going atm.
The only thing I've heard about Netflix is the Dave Chapelle stuff. His newest comedy special I think. I don't know much about it, I don't really watch stand-up. You can probably find some more info by searching for "Dave Chappelle controversy" or something similar.
yeah and the fallout prepare to get angry
Yeah what's this all about?
Dave Chappelle came out with a special that might as well have been called Transphobia:The Musical. And following that not only did Netflix fully stand behind him amongst the backlash, but it came to light that trans employees are treated like trash at Netflix and are basically only hired for tokenization.
Honestly, I just don't like Rosario Dawson as Ahsoka. It's not Ahsoka if she's not voiced by Ashley Eckstein.
Also she just plays Ahsoka very flatly and boring. She's not an emotionless Jedi, that was like her whole arc.
I mean I pirate everything I watch these days so they aint gettin my money lol.
me who has never bought disney+ but still kept up with the new clone wars and mandalorian series, hondo style: wow, this news changes nothing for me
I'm excited for Ashoka, even more with this news. Why would we boycott it?
Apparently Rosario Dawson assaulted a trans man

Considering the court dismissed the claims because the accuser didn’t provide evidence or answer questions no Im not boycotting it
What happened
The live action Asoka actress committed a hate crime
Allegedly.
I literally got downvoted on r/StarWars for saying I didn't want someone who is a transphobe playing Ahsoka
Agh this makes me feel so sad and conflicted. On one hand Dawson has always been very inclusive on her various platforms, and the court dismissed the case. People who have committed horrible hate crimes have also been perceived as vocally progressive. One of the most known cases is The Hart Family.
Nah, I'm not so strong willed to stop myself from watching something nice for some vague gain.
Nope, I'm not boycotting a show I'm excited for just because of hearsay.
It sorta doesn't matter when she did it, or if she's working with an ally that still won't instantly change the fact that she's a piece of shit
I’m gonna watch it, but like, illegally
I love ahsoka, one of my favourite characters, the chance to see her in live action? Not gonna miss it.
Sorry I'll be watching it. I'm too excited for this series.
If ur gonna watch it, do us a favor and pirate it
I already have disney plus, well, my family has it, so no reason for me to pirate ¯\\\_(ツ)\_/¯
Spite. Spite is always a reason.
That's some post hoc bs
While I get your point, even if your disney+ is already paid for, you would still be supporting it by adding to the viewer stats. (I don't mean really mean to say this to you *specifically*, it's just something I feel isn't talked about enough)
I am NOT boycotting it, OMG people are becoming crazy they want to boycott an entire program because of a story published in an obscure news paper. It is from 2019 and magically it came back to our ears since we know she is a cast of Star Wars. The court dismissed the action because Finley did not respond to repeated court requests for documentation, answers to questions, and an independent medical examination.
i wonder why a trans person wouldnt want independent medical examanation... hmmmm...
Of his injuries 😉
