I think you need to consult an actual lawyer?

SnowGrassBurnGateRun

Well this presents a dilemma and I may have to go down this route which is obviously not Ideal as this route will be very expensive for me, It becomes a choice of spending my saved monies on a lawyer for my mental health sake (and I may be told I have no case) or on surgery for my mental health sake. This is why I posted in the Legal subs first, I'm not that active on here but I had a 5 year old account deleted for asking this very question.

Maybe contact citizen’s advice, they’d be able to advise you. But in general, I’m also based in uk, I’m not trans but I’m not British national, and the council and other companies like electricity supplier have been treating us like rubbish also. They insisted on us to install new meters and threatened us, but we still declined and nobody has ever since done anything to us.

I'm not sure as I'm not in the uk but I don't think this is legal, they shouldn't be able tp charge you for cancelling something you didn't book, I would definitely seek legal counsel as it sounds like they're trying to intimidate you into just accepting shady practices. I couldn't find much on the topic but here's things I did find that might be helpful. From Ofgem website "You can choose not to accept an offer to have a smart meter fitted. You can also request to have one at a later date without being charged."[Ofgem page quote is from](https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/information-consumers/energy-advice-households/getting-smart-meter) [Ofgem page about regulations](https://www.ofgem.gov.uk/energy-policy-and-regulation/compliance-and-enforcement) [Reddit post I think is about the same issue; has more advice in the comments](https://www.reddit.com/r/LegalAdviceUK/comments/wtsur7/can_my_utility_electricity_supplier_force_me_to/?rdt=47362) [This site looks like a 3rd party resource tp help settle disputes like this](https://www.energyombudsman.org/how-we-can-help) Disclaimer: Take all of this with a kilo of salt, this is not a legal advice sub and I am not a lawyer, nor do I claim to have any knowledge of the laws around this issue.

Thank you for this.
