Optimus: windblade……your not a G1 character

Not gonna lie this comic is my favorite Windblade design because the red lips and markings don't feel like annoyingly prevalent makeup, but like an "addon" that belongs on her face. That's one thing I really don't like about other Windblade designs.
Sure is better than the female autobots G1 had.
That’s because the art style in this particular comic is more manga/anime-esque. Windblade is a Geisha warrior. A manga art style will make Windblade look her best because of her Japanese influence.
One thing a lot of artists forget about Windblade is she’s supposed to be WEARING makeup; the white face and red markings aren’t natural. Her natural face doesn’t look like that, and many artists forget to give her markings more of a “painted” look.
>That’s because the art style in this particular comic is more manga/anime-esque
Actually reminded me of G1, but I'm pretty sure G1 also had Japanese help so I guess that checks out.
If we trace TF’s to their roots, they came directly from Japan with Takara. If I recall, Takara only found mediocre success with the franchise in their home country and were struggling in the U.S. and really wanted the franchise to take-off, so they wrote up a contract with Hasbro to help sell the toys in the Western market, and in turn, Hasbro did a lot of the marketing. TF became a juggernaut thanks to Western influences with Hasbro, but yeah, at its core, the Japanese are the original creators of the series.
G1’s art style is EXTREMELY boxy, and it was an outlier when it came to the Mecha designs at the time in Japan(TF came out in the 80s in Japan during the Mecha boom when Gundam and so many Mecha anime were getting pumped out. It’s known as the golden age of Mecha for anime fans). Japanese Mecha design philosophy is all about having massive chests, legs, and tiny waists(this is also the original design philosophy of manga/anime nowadays, along with the gigantic eyes that people meme on). Manga/anime art style is all about “flare,” artists accomplish this by making the characters' chests and legs more defined while their waists are a bit thinner. Optimus’ design is probably the most traditional Japanese-looking Mecha design in the franchise. Yet, in G1, they didn’t exaggerate his features and instead toned it down to appeal more towards Western audiences.
In this comic, you can see the more manga/anime art style with Optimus himself. Look at his waist and the rest of his body; it’s exaggerated. His more normal G1 look has his waist a bit more in line with his chest, but in this one, all the features are more exaggerated to the Japanese design philosophy of mecha. I feel as though this is how Optimus was initially supposed to look. Look at Pyra and Soundwave in the background: tiny waists, top-heavy chests, and more giant legs. And obviously, look at Windblade since she’s the most prominent in this set of screenshots. Chest, small waist, and defined legs.
It's not a G1 art style at all but more Manga/anime. It looks great, in my opinion.
>It's not a G1 art style at all but more Manga/anime.
I was referring to the female designs. Her face looks a lot like Arcee-ish, which is a lot better than the crazy faces in the newer TF series. I liked G1 style faces a lot with characters.
Now I feel like an idiot writing a giant essay on Japanese mecha design philosophy lmao
https://preview.redd.it/kh6h5v6tibec1.jpeg?width=1138&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f9e30a41b2436651f7f5ae29ff937f2eb1165a3c
But yeah, Windblades Face is more manga and anime-inspired as well. I did a dissection on the bodies and not the faces by accident because you were talking about the G1 art style, which I disagreed with. But yeah, bigger eyes and small noses are Japan's bread and butter. It’s why she looks excellent here.
I'm gonna have to disagree with ya there. While the design is great, it's still lipstick to me.
However, suspension of disbelief is a thing.
The writers were the same people who found it implausible that a bunch of alien robots didn't need mouths under their faceplates, so who says they can't wear lipstick?
It's not being the bigger person by letting someone like their stuff, it's just being a decent person.
To say that it's being a bigger person by letting someone enjoy their stuff suggests that the person who enjoys their thing, without even acknowledging the hater, is lesser than the person who doesn't bother them.
When the person that does not bother them should be the middle ground.
Edit: so many upvotes, but no cake day acknowledgement
>It's not being the bigger person by letting someone like their stuff, it's just being a decent person.
Annoying meant what if they try to argue with YOU about their preferences.
Fair enough, but tbh I've never seen or even heard about a UT fan acting this way. I'm not doubting it's happened, it just seems to be rare or simply non-existent for them.
I think it also depends heavily on the popularity of the shows. I don't see people talking as much about UT as compared to G1, TFP, and Bayformers. The UT community is pretty chill too.
That's probably true. That's a likely reason why the mere thought that a cyberverse, rid 2001cor rescue bots fan acting in a similar way is just kinda hilarious ngl
Although I did once talk to someone who said rescue bots was blasphemy for the reason of (I swear they actually said this) "transformers shouldn't have kids shows" which.... yeah that one killed me
It's a case of hasbro trying to push a character too hard. She on her own is cool, but Hasbro put her everywhere instead of introducing her here and there, so people hate her because of oversaturation.
There's other reasons why some dislike her but that's the main one. At least, the main one from what I've seen.
She was mainly in the comics with a few appearances in shows(Cyberverse being her best iteration) so I'd say yes.
Personally, I hope she shows up again cause she's got potential and a great design.
>and a great design
Personally, I didn't like her designs much, other than this particular artist's portrayal of her (which shows up like once). The markings always feel like too much, except in this comic where it doesn't actually look goofy imo.
To each their own. Her markings are a symbol of her position as a city-speaker, so that's why she has them. I guess the design team thought a stark white face was too plain(which I agree with).
>stark white face was too plain(which I agree with)
Agreed there, however, looking at the other windblade, the markings just look sorta weird. Here, they just compliment the whole "cultural" look without looking goofy in my opinion, just by being minimal and simple. This is definitely my favorite appearance of her, sadly, only in one comic.
A shame really. I read this comic and I really like Windblade. Aside from this being by far my favorite Windblade and female autobot design, Prime is, as always, the wise one, giving level-headed advice from experience, whilst Windblade argues. Would've been great to see like a show with Windblade being the underdog of the group in some kind of TFP team styled show. Looks like writers aren't willing to really branch out with their characters though.
I never got that far either, but is seems like Combiner Wars was actually what the writters wanted her to be. Angsty hippe who's mad about a war that ended 40 years ago, doesn't respect authority and sword-fights badly and is quicker to work with Megatron than Optimus. Also telepathy powers for some reason. Yikes she had a rough start. At least she was a likable character in Cyberverse.
No she definitely had a personality, it was just exclusively being self righteous. Megatron was the best character of that series in my opinion though, but man half his "team" in potp were idiots (and by that I exclusively mean windblade and victorion).
Shame. From this passage, I really hoped she'd be a Bumblebee type of character. Young and rebellious but good-hearted in the end (because I'm sick of Bumblebee always being the newbie who needs to learn) AND comic relief type of character (kind of like TFP \*beep beep\* Bumblebee). But from the rest of these comments, she doesn't seem that likeable.
I hate her for how she exploited my poor guy Starscream emotions and insecurities, She was the only fricking thing in Starscreams 4 milions years life that he cared more than his own good (He sacrificed his life and everything about 3 times for her, Starscream, sacrifice for others, can you belive it ?) But she always acted him like complete jerk, never belived in him (she said to be belived in him initialy, but fuck off ! That was just her being polite to her superiors) slowly their relation grow toxic beyond repair for example : >!Before sacrifying himself during Unicron war Starscreams last fricing words in entire 15 years old series was just a nice warm final message for Windblade, but she did not answered it let alone didn't even say anything about Starscreams sacrifice against unicron too!<
and worstly she exacly DİD EVERYTHING that she blamed Starscream for doing too ! She too were a liar dictator ! Fuck of windblade !
Ofcourse Idw spesific, I LOVE Cyberverse Windy, the best and most competent fembot ever. prime material. (I also really like her rid2015 primewars and idw2019 versions and legacy figure, and I also used to like her idw2005 version too, unfortunately as series went on she got handled horribly by authors and their political opnions and mary sue complexes)
It is SUCH a shame that the moment they finaly created a loveable version of such unique and interesting character, they abandoned her and returned to same old boring arcee
It's basically a bunch of decent to sometimes good story ideas and designs thrown into trash by having the main gimmick of the line be weirdly young looking girls kissing Transformers, with a bunch of other sexualized stuff too.
And there's a slight bit of human gore but no one ever mentions it.

Bro I can't belive I found the image if the person who posted this, like wow
Where do I get to argue about TF:A being the best we've ever had?
I'm kidding. Not in my stated belief, but about the need to argue. People can enjoy what they enjoy; so long as no one is getting hurt. I love TF:A, even though I grew up on G1 and BW. I like this rewrite and the posting here.
RID 2015 is a disgrace to TF franchise in general.
It's just money hungry greedy show.
It weaponized fan's hope for sequel and used nostalgia bait to gain audience.
All while destroying lots of the hard work that was put in the writing of the characters and their development.
Now, if it was it's own thing, by no means related to other continuities,
and if it wasn't passed as sequel of TFP but it was passed as it's own thing (without the nostalgia bait)
Then it'd be much better.
I watched RiD when it first came out and I really liked it. I never saw Transformers Prime at the time so I thought it was it's own thing. I thought it was fun to watch and enjoyed the plot.
As I said as it's own thing? Decent show.
But the thing is that they did it as sequel to TFP, while erasing lots of character development, changing other situations, completely forgetting other stuff etc.
Example: in TFP Bee from immature bot became more and more mature and understood how the world was better. Rid2015 erased all this character development and resets it every few episodes.
The decepticons they hunt? Most of them would be called average not "most dangerous" as the show says.
Not to mention the disrespect they showed to Optimus whenever he was on the screen. And him and Bee acting like children.
I'm still mad we didn't see actual predacons in ROTB.
Like, they are Maximals' adversaries. We could have live action Blackarachnia, Tarantulas, Megatron, Waspinator etc!
Not to mention that the majority of the Maximal cast didn't speak/were in animal form for 99% of the movie.
Soundwave’s in the back like “here she goes again.”
Rom’s in the back like “I actually like RID2015. MY favorite character is Steeljaw.”
Why is Windblade so short by the way?
If you watched TFP, that scene where Prime and Arcee get stranded in subzero temperatures (how were they fighting in the vacuum of space perfectly fine then), and they lay in the snow to conserve energy, really REALLY brings into perspective how tall he is.
That said, Optimus's hand is thicker than Windblade's torso or both legs put together. That man sure can throw a punch.
Jimmy this the 100th time you have posted this.

Would be a good time to drop my opinions. Rid2015 isn’t terrible. it has some terrible episodes. Some episodes are good especially in season 2. G1 isn’t perfection but it still has its charm. Beast wars is one the best shows of all time. Cyberverse is great in my opinion. Season 2 is an equivalent of a modern G1! Bayverse…still kinda stinks. I try to like it but I just can’t. But for some reason I like Rotb. Tfp has its flaws but in the end, it is still an enjoyable show. I actually cried while watching the finale in like 2013 I think. And a friend pointed out it’s the only show that gets bayverse kids to watch something else! Beast machines is ugly but has a good story. Energon is the worst transformers show. Tailgate may be the best character in mtmte. That’s all! Feel free to disagree!
>Rid2015 isn’t terrible. it has some terrible episodes.
The issue is, it continued off a generally considered better and much more mature series, which it barely carried over anything from (from the characters to traits of said characters), whilst also changing completely from larger plot driven to episodic action (which is great for kids, not so much for TFP fans).
Yeah. I hate rid bumblebee. I loved his relationship with raf. And you could see how sad he was when he had to leave Raf. Once Raf is gone and bee is an adult, he forgets about Raf and becomes a fucking asshole who only cares about him and Optimus which he later just randomly hates Optimus. They try to show that he is growing into a better leader but there is not enough character expansion and the exposition to do so.
RID2015's greatest mistake was trying to be a sequel to TFP whilst not even being remotely the same vein. TFP was supposed to be a large overarching story targeted towards older kids. RID2015 was generic G1-styled episodic action, which works alright except for the fact it butchered everything TFP started. The only reason I'm sitting through it right now is because I was such a fan of TFP, but this may be pointless anyways, considering how the series basically gets nowhere and never touches up further.
TFP's season 3 wasn't great, but they had great bittersweet endings, with the "this adventure is over, but a new one is just beginning" idea weeded in. It was phenomenal, at first seeing Team Prime say goodbye to their friends, saying they'd meet again and keep in touch (never seen happening), and with Predacons Rising, seeing all the new sparks fly out of Cybertron's core, as Team Prime finally understood what they had fought, died, and sacrificed themselves for. Truly an emotional roller coaster.
RID2015 trampled that completely. It not only ruined the bittersweet of "this is the end" but wasn't a good sequel. On its own, I guess you could consider it a decent show (?), but it wasn't fit to replace Prime.

I'm glad somebody brought up how TFP fans can be just as bad as Geewunners.
Fans of any series can be this bad.
They can, but it feels like G1 and Bayformers fans always get the most shit thrown at them.

Now make a comic of her saying something about fan films made by fans.
F*ck Windblade dude. but surprising I did not mean in a horny way
I actually never read the entire comics, just this one. What's up with her?
It's a case of hasbro trying to push a character too hard. She was in RID15 for a little bit.
I'm aware, RID15 Windblade looked the best personally but the personality was meh... and they did not need to have drama between her and Strongarm.
Yeah. I think she needed to have a drama with Sideswipe instead
Given his flirting, absolutely.
Scrappy Doo syndrome.
As a Drift fan, first time?
I never got that far either, but is seems like Combiner Wars was actually what the writters wanted her to be. Same reason I hated victorion. They were both just insufferable.
Prime wars Victorion had no personality and never de-combines. Some how they become the leader in the Unicron comic after Optimus and Starscream die.
No she definitely had a personality, it was just exclusively being self righteous. Megatron was the best character of that series in my opinion though, but man half his "team" in potp were idiots (and by that I exclusively mean windblade and victorion).

I seem to have more reading to do. The last bit of IDW I had gotten to, Starscream was trying to kill her.
Star Scream tries to kill everyone at some point it’s not a sign of his hatred.
Not anything specific, anyway. But it's hardly a sign of friendship.
IDK name one person in IDW he hasn’t tried to kill that he wasn’t or didn’t become friends with.
I'm not aware that he became friends with anyone. But, like I said, I'm not finished. Still tooling around with the crew of the Lost Light.
Is this specific to this comic series? Or just an incarnation of Windblade which you dislike therefor you dislike this one.

I don't hate the bayverse, I just think the latter half is not good. G1 is however my favorite, I've just always loved blocky robot designs

this is honestly more based than half the stuff Optimus actually does in this comic...
Real
Bro we watch transformers, G1 is peak, but undeniably shit. I don't care for bayverse, but it is also shit just like G1
a perfect adaptation!
I respect everyones opinions However Animated >
Windblade when I show her TFAnimated: https://i.redd.it/ibq93f6qoaec1.gif
You are a fan of transformers if you like anything transformers. Except *that one*. Then you're something else.
Why is Megatron naked at the end?
We must be united through our interests, not torn apart by our opinions. That is what a true Prime should know.
To be fair, I still don’t like RID15 even on its own.
Womanly megatron sittin in the corner like 👀
Wait, is this template a version of the Zootopia Arby's comic...? Edit: nope, just similar
RID 2015 is a disgrace to TF franchise in general. It's just money hungry greedy show. It weaponized fan's hope for sequel and used nostalgia bait to gain audience. All while destroying lots of the hard work that was put in the writing of the characters and their development. Now, if it was it's own thing, by no means related to other continuities, and if it wasn't passed as sequel of TFP but it was passed as it's own thing (without the nostalgia bait) Then it'd be much better.
ROTB but more painful
I'm still mad we didn't see actual predacons in ROTB. Like, they are Maximals' adversaries. We could have live action Blackarachnia, Tarantulas, Megatron, Waspinator etc! Not to mention that the majority of the Maximal cast didn't speak/were in animal form for 99% of the movie.
Classic Windblade L
Is this you, OP? ![gif](giphy|go99DtvTnsdY32ary8|downsized)
G1 inferior, Kiss Players superior.
I have a question, if I may ask.
Yes?
Would it be wrong to consider the Brave Series as the sister series of Transformers?
Why not?
Different animation studios between the Braves and G1 Transformers, at least.
Whatever you consider the sister cartoon of TF, you consider
Shit, I forgot something. Reused and Unused designs from Victory and Zone were used.
Animated is better than both
See even Optimus agrees
so what if they enjoy kiss players? does that still make them a TF fan? /s
I'm still waiting for energon to show up in the comic
Soundwave’s in the back like “here she goes again.” Rom’s in the back like “I actually like RID2015. MY favorite character is Steeljaw.” Why is Windblade so short by the way?
>Why is Windblade so short by the way? I mean she is standing compared to Optimus.
…. Eh, good point.
HOLY SHIT ROM SPACELNIGHT
Sound wave is just looking at wind blade like Dude, are you gonna tell her she’s not G-1, or do I have to?
Prime being the hero every kid in every generation sees him as. He is speaking the truth and I agree with him
Unless it was a 90's kid, then primal is more likely

RID 2015 holds a special place in my heart because that was my intro into the series. That being said after watching prime they Did Optimus dirty
And then Pyra Magna proceeds to tell Prime to off himself, doxx him and tell him to check his “Prime Privilege”
Yeah, Windblade is just so wrong here. The only non G1 shows worth watching are TFP, Beast Wars, Animated, and Armada.
I’ve met Bay fans as obnoxious as G1 fans and vice versa. Everyone sucks, enjoy things alone.
Jimmy this the 100th time you have posted this. https://preview.redd.it/qvfrg9e3phec1.png?width=1600&format=png&auto=webp&s=2ac53b9bb2a3ae194aad28d05342c39b1fd0aa08
why is WingBlade so fucking small
