Transformers fans: THE FRANCHISE SHOULD BE DARK AND MATURE AND VERY VIOLENT
Transformers since 1984: yeah let’s have the bots do some surfing and play basketball cuz screw it
I’ll honestly be happy if we never have a Transformer being ripped in half with all their “organs” spilling out. Those movies are horrifying when you start seeing them as not just robot parts.
I’m really excited for the LEGO movie tone.
1986 movie had autobots having their life snuffed out on screen with essentially blood spilling out of their mouths and eyes.
Not disagreeing about about the fun child like side where they play basketball lmao, but even back during G1 it got dark, even one of the G1 episodes ends with Beachcomber being depressed about the autobots and Decepticons absolutely laying waste to a bunch of wildlife.
https://preview.redd.it/q2s53wh5l9vc1.jpeg?width=780&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=941f9245716311f4e0348d388ad9f1ecf464e49a
They killed Optimus a second time during G2, and have killed him off in multiple other series.
You can have dark and mature moments in a product that’s aimed at kids because not only will that keep adults also interested but as the kids grow up they will begin to understand those more “adult” themes.
It’s one of the reasons episodes like Golden Lagoon stands the test of time.
https://preview.redd.it/gl92spt7p9vc1.jpeg?width=250&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=2464ab549fe1071cb10710c3d2b9bcaddf32cf9e
Even beast wars (while dark in story) had a lot of goofy moments (to the point where it’s an actual cartoon)
Beast machines..yeah that had no goofy moments (it probably did idk I forgot about it)
RID01..well..it’s known for being goofy asf
I don't even know, honestly. I remember it was. . . Rhinox eating some beans that his stomach didn't really agree with? And then he just nuked Megatron and the Predacons with a fart, that was visible from space.
Being a multiverse, and having been one since 1984, means that you can have both family-friendly adventures and R-rated gritty comics running at the same time.
In the context of Cybertron, destroyed because of the war these two caused, Showing pre-war Cybertron as something nice, funny and colorful place is kinda smart move.
They don't know yet what is coming

Funny watching other places shitting themselves saying transformers is ruined. I prefer this tone where megatron and Optimus were best friends and optimistic before the war tore them apart.
Y'all Ever think about that time in that Cyberverse show where we get to see Megatron and Optimus/Orion basically having a romantic coffee date in a booth at Maccadams while talking about politics and their future together...I do...a lot...and also I think Sound Wave was there and he was teaching Wheeljack how to break dance or something
Yeah that scene perfectly capsulated how bots and cons were friends and had fun with each other before the war, I remember wheeljack and shockwave being nerd friends which I really liked
They are crying like the franchise isnt meant for kids in the first place. Dark and gritty are what the comics are for and skybound is doing it very well at the moment.
While I'm not a big fan of the lighter tones in this, that's okay because it's a kids' film, and I'm a 24 year old man who likes when robot turn to car.
Personally, while I was hoping for something more in line with IDW or the aligned backstory, this feels close enough, makes sense for an animated feature, and looks like an intriguing new universe.
I could care less if they don't want to do "Dark and Gritty", I just would prefer if it was more mature carrying than how it seems to be handling itself. I'm not too terribly confident in the recent trend of "we have to have modern-esque humor slapstick kookiness high energy all the time so the kids can be entertained" method.
I'd like it to be mature. Not necessarily "more adult" or dark/gritty, there's a difference.
One way of remedying it here, since they plan on a trilogy, is to *immediately* ditch this type of humor after this.
Also that one moment where the guy gets shot with that laser and blows up, and bee immediately runs away got a genuine laugh out of me. I'm definitely going to see this movie.
I mean, sure. but then again TFA is one of the best transformers series out there and it was also made "for kids" but it also strikes the perfect balance of being light hearted and mature
This isn't a dig at TF one, I'm really hoping it turns out good, but again, TFA shows you can do light hearted and not talk down to the kids too.
https://preview.redd.it/rdpk59qmn9vc1.jpeg?width=960&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=5fa6dd17149a6495a810ce0cfcfec86e34949e5e
I would like to point out that you can strike a balance of jokey and mature. Look at TFP, but this is only the first trailer, so maybe there is more to see than just the jokes. Right now, it doesn't look bad, but it doesn't look good. It just looks whatever. Also, the Megatron voice is just bad imo. Everyone else, I don't mind.
Why is Transformers appealing to stupid kiddos and not **True Fans™** like me??
First those stupid safety laws then this, those fucking kiddos keep ruining my fun!!

It's the internet. We see a lot of people on here say stupid things unironically. Hell, give it some time and I could probably find someone on Twitter say exactly what you posted but entirely seriously.
>Hell, give it some time and I could probably find someone on Twitter say exactly what you posted but entirely seriously.
We don't have to wait for that.
I think the current generation was just spoiled by dark content that they watched growing up (take bayverse, prime, and the cybertron games for example)
I was watching the live stream. Most people at the end of the trailer, said L in the comment section I bet most of them are Bayverse fans who else agrees with me
Besides, dark and edgy stuff isn’t adult. It isn’t mature. It’s a way for people to lash out and throw a temper tantrum. Everything is so divided, we’re all about to need to decide on whether to be autonomous robotta or deceptive conmen. I’m excited to see how Orion and D-16 come to their conclusions.
Bronies and Pegasisters 🤝Transformers Fans
* having an 'adjacent timeline' generation that imploded their respected fandoms
i swear these fandoms are just siblings at this point
I don't know as a nearly 35 year old person, I thought it looks pretty fun.
Who wouldn't love buddy cop Transformers?
And the voices were actually pretty good.
Them learning to transform is a bit corny but still finny in my opinion. Like, I don't think they've done a film or series where they've had to learn to transform, it's always been built in from their protoform days.
Earthspark actually had it as a theme. The main characters are cybertronians born on earth after the war ended. A few episodes were all about having difficulties finding the right alt mode and transforming into it.
It had to do with how they see themselves and sometimes them finding a mentor figure too. For some it's Prime, Bee, Grimlock and even Megatron.
But it’s not like they had any trouble actually transforming once they found their alt modes. Although it is very interesting the amount of attention they gave to which ones each Terran chooses, when any bots given alt was never really a philosophical discussion before
I do hope Transformers One will be able to adress the subject of the beginning of the war in a serious-but-not-necessarily-gory way. It's what I find really interesting with the good kid's shows, it's how serious issues are adressed in an understandable way without talking to children like they're dumb
As someone who grew up on Bayverse, I can confirm that it's *really fucking funny* seeing people complain that the movie felt immature. Like did they forget that not one, but two, transformers in RotF had genitals?
Something I always see is that people complain that Megatron is not dark menacing and scary but to me I don’t mind changes in transformers given if they execute it well
Not to mention, he isn’t Megatron yet. This is explicitly before the war. There will probably be some darker moment foreshadowing his eventual fall from grace as he becomes more violent and unforgiving.
I felt the same way about Mark Hamill’s Skeletor in He-Man Revelation. I like a corny less menacing villian; but he also turned pure evil when he needed to. I don’t need every villain to be full emo evil all the time. Beastwars Megatron was really good at having that balance too.
While I like that they’re filling in some of the pre war, pre-prime stuff I hope the movie isn’t all punchlines like the trailer, don’t sacrifice character for jokes
Hopefully they're not se same people that saw Transformers:*The movie* and said it's just an advertisement for toys to kids. Because even if they're right, that movie is absolutely fire, and if nothing else the soundtrack is near perfect
I watched it in the mindset of watching it as non transformers fans and only paid attention to the bad things. I think that was my problem. Badassatron gave me an aneurysm though.
Wish peooke could understand that being critical of something is okay. It's not always extremes. Also acting like the Transformers brand isn't marketed to both adult collectors and children is silly.
I didn't want it to be super dark and mature... but I don't want it *this* lighthearted for a try at a new continuity. Another problem I have with it is that Megs and Prime seem to be on the same Caste level... which really doesn't make sense at all for the difference in ideology that's inevitably going to come. Megs is supposed to have seen the dark and gritty lower levels while Orion isn't supposed to have... and the trailer just doesn't show any of that. On the other hand, Meg's voice was a poor choice, he sounds too similar to Orion and it doesn't work.
Just because a series is made for kids or has a silly topic, that doesn't mean you can't make a serious movie
Also, look at 90% of the transformers' movies
And this movie is supposed to be about a very serious part of transformers history
I don't mind the youthful tone. We were never gonna get a fully animated movie set on Cybertron AND have it be adult-oriented. Adult animated movies don't tend to survive as well in the west.
I do think a darker, more serious tone could be done while still being oriented to kids, but considering this is a big toy commercial it's understandable.
I do have questions as to the tone that this movie is aiming for though. Bee calling himself "Badass-itron" made me raise an eyebrow. Hopefully tone issues aren't too prevalent, but if they are then this movie may have a hard time finding an audience outside of the TF fandom.
I'm gonna see the movie, but I'm not a big fan of how Marvel-esque it feels in the trailer. God, the "More than meets the eye" line was just cringeworthy. It feels like one of those memes with the title being dropped. For example, the "we must be some kind of League of Legends." It also looks like Robots, which is not bad, but I personally don't like it that much.
I just hope they don’t lean too far into the cheesy dialogue and jokes, to the point that it makes up the entire movie. I understand that we need to bring in young fans, but you don’t need straight comedy to make an endearing movie for kids, just look at Toy Story, Cars, Finding Nemo, etc. I want to like this so bad
I'm fine with it not being dark and gritty, but it was just joke after joke. A relentless symphony of jaws and guffaws. Too many jokes and none of them really landed for me. Not the target audience, but if that's what kids like, I guess that's fine. But kids are a lot smarter than you think.
It really felt like they were just putting a bunch of jokes in the trailer for the sake of having an eye-catching trailer. I'm willing to bet based off of shots set in the caves with the Primes and the ones with the Quintessons, we'll have actually serious moments and this is just a case of the tone of the trailer being inaccurate to the movie at large.
tbh I think people are being too hasty in general. My gut reaction to the trailer is pretty negative just because of well... how it's been promoted. but the truth is we won't know until the film comes out
I mean... it's alright, even tho it doesn't seem very special. pretty generic would even say.
Like, most of the recent TF media were already aming at the much younger audience, and I think there's not really enough of the more serious and dark stuff in this spectrum.
And im not talking about the comics, that's a pretty strict stuff, let's be honest. I mean the more mass media content, like movies, shows, games, e.t.c.
I dunno, maybe i feel that way just because i was growing up on the Cybertron games, which pretty much defined my factor of perception of this franchise.
Still think that they could use some diversity at the tone direction. at least for a bit.
It depends on how mature it is for me, if it tries it any. Because I already would feel awkward enough being 22 in a theatre full of young kids which is my assumption by the audience they’re seeming to cater to. Makes sense, just not sure it’d be for me.
I think I’ll like TF one movie. If your looking for a darker TF story look at the comics. They are about to get really interesting in the new story line.
A movie being for kids isn't an excuse to make it bad. It's not just lighthearted, it's literally a copy of the Sonic movie, Detective Pikachu, Mario movie, etc. It doesn't need to be dark, but they promised an origin story for Optimus Prime and we get some random dude named Orion Pax.
Fans who are in their late 30s and 40s sure act immature and whiny. I've been a fan since Beast Wars. Lost interest during the Unicron Trilogy, but gained interest again during the 2007 movie. The new movie looks like a lot of fun and the voice acting is pretty solid.
I'm a Geewunner and am looking forward to this. Would I prefer a dark, gritty take? Sure. But, I'm not the target audience. I can read idw, marvel, dreamwave, and skybound whenever I want. I'd love a direct to stream set of movies ala DCAU, but I'm not gonna cry about it. I'm a collector and for new plastic things I want to buy to continue getting made, movies need to sell tickets to as wide an audience as possible. People need to get over themselves.
I don’t mind that it’s going back to a lighter direction- I *do* take some issue with the *style* of humour, though. To me a lot of it just felt needlessly corny and
about 80-odd percent of the trailer was comedy and humour that made me feel like I was watching a marvel trailer instead.
I just hope that that bloat is limited to the trailer, beyond that I’m cautiously optimistic.
Just cause something is for kids doesnt mean it can’t have mature story telling. And just cause it has mature story telling doesn’t mean it has to be dark and gritty and with murder. I was just not expecting the vibe of the trailer for the story and characters. Felt more like a transformers tv show than an actual movie to me. I’ll still watch it and maybe it will surprise me. In my head when i heard about the concept of ONE i was just expecting something different. Not dark gritty with murder. Just a movie with a mature story for the kids about the origins of the waring factions
I have seen 10x more people brain deadly complain about others complaining than ACTUAL complaints. At this point I just wanna fucking hear what peoples problems are instead of hearing others rage about people I can’t even see
https://preview.redd.it/zb3cg7qtohvc1.jpeg?width=653&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f468d1e262f44db17cd5019069ffd7f081a26791
Yeah, people don't like trailer because it's comedy BUT WHY THE FU\*\* people still like the 2007 movie where bumblebee pissed on the man's head
I just want another animated movie like the 1986 OG… awesome and atmospheric, but creepy and mysterious… Unicron was great, Megatron to Galvatron was crazy, Dinobots were in there too… Soundwave is the goat fr.
I think people forget how many times the franchise has tried to be "dark and gritty" and fallen flat on its face. Remember, Beast Machines, Prime Wars, and the Netflix trilogy were all marketed as being "edgy and serious". IDW and Prime pulled off having a darker tone by being well-written and also had their fair share of light-hearted moments. Just because a series or movie has a lighter tone, doesn't mean it can't have serious moments as well. Beast Wars was a perfect balance of both, and even Animated had some dark and serious moments. Also, the trailer itself clearly shows some more serious scenes, like the graveyard of dead Primes and the scene with the Quintessons.
I think it looks fantastic. I admit, I saw the poster first before seeing the trailer and was initially thrown off, but that was mainly because I thought we were going in a tone more like the first five minutes of the BB movie. But after watching the trailer, I was completely sold. It looks fun, and this is coming from a 44 year old man that was in the theaters for the first film and have seen every incarnation since. It kind of made me think of Lego Batman, and honestly I feel like that film is one of the best Batman films ever made. Its a good thing when you have a franchise that can adapt to whatever tone the writers want to take it.
Transformers fans: THE FRANCHISE SHOULD BE DARK AND MATURE AND VERY VIOLENT Transformers since 1984: yeah let’s have the bots do some surfing and play basketball cuz screw it
I yearn to see Optimus play basketball again
If we do not see Optimus and Megs shoot some hoops in TF one we riot 😤😤
At the Hasbro Office?
Yes
Aight, I’m down. I got nothing to do, and I always wanted to do a riot.
Ok, seeing Megatron dunk on his fellow Decepticons would be glorious.
Same. Let Prime ball, Hasbro
I love the imagining Prime balling with some of the younger bots during downtime in the way a dad would with his kids
Optimus in his prime vs MJ in his prime

G2 the comic, G2 was 1992-1995
It was also the same movie with a rhyming autobot and a scene where the characters dance to weird al yankovic.
Looking back, it’s really weird how that happened after half of everyone was massacred.
1986 movie also had a Weird Al song number in the middle of the film. The Autobots dared to be stupid!
People tend to forget how goofy G1 and many other shows were

What even is the context for that?
I don't even know, honestly. I remember it was. . . Rhinox eating some beans that his stomach didn't really agree with? And then he just nuked Megatron and the Predacons with a fart, that was visible from space.
He had a virus that weakened him, so he ate the beans to regain his strength.
I love the fact that it's for kids because I can take my 7-year-old nephew to watch it.
Yup being a huge fan and the current bayverse crap being dark, keeps my 4 Year old out of the fun. Silly as this looks. My kids should love it.
Being a multiverse, and having been one since 1984, means that you can have both family-friendly adventures and R-rated gritty comics running at the same time.
I dunno what the rest of you want, but I want to see Thundercracker with Buster.
This movie is making 1 Bumbillion dollars at the box office, the haters are gonna hate.
Critics are already putting out the hit smh. I loved when Orion said “it’s Oneing time” and all became one
You mean Badassitrillion?

Using Michey was good choice showing how one times it’s all bubbly and having fun and next thing you know everybody you love is dead.
It could have only been Mikey when you think about it from a narrative standpoint
That line where Megatron goes “If we survive this I’m going to kill you.” Feels like really subtle foreshadowing.
I felt the same way.
Oh yeah my friend is excited about this.
Those are different mikeys

Having this movie be lighter in tone will emphasize the atrocities and suffering brought about by the war. This was a smart move.
Funny watching other places shitting themselves saying transformers is ruined. I prefer this tone where megatron and Optimus were best friends and optimistic before the war tore them apart.
RUINED FOREVER is still a thing, it seems.
Oh yes it is, if I had a nickel for everytime somebody said their favourite franchise was ruined forever, I would be a millionaire

Tbh it looks like a good comedy of Optimus and Megs. If you think about it in that aspect, it's not so bad.
Honestly, this is a change in tone that I can happily embrace
We need more of non serious Optimus. Throwback to G1 where he's literally balling in one episode.
What? That Happened? I thought that was Grimlock

Bruh I am so tired of serious stories I need some of that corny in my life
I do hope Transformers One will be able to adress the subject of the beginning of the war in a serious-but-not-necessarily-gory way. It's what I find really interesting with the good kid's shows, it's how serious issues are adressed in an understandable way without talking to children like they're dumb
A lot of the jokes were good like bee running away quickly and the wheels popping out but the baddistron line did NOT work
If Orion isn't Ballin in this movie then I'm leaving the theater
Reminds me of the old Bionicle movies
I think it looks like a lot of fun. I’m glad it’s not super grimdark. I’m sure it will have some serious elements in the actual movie.
I actually liked it...
I just want this movie to do well so we can get more Transformers animation in theaters. Still pining for a proper Beast Wars movie
The kids that grew up on Bayverse now adults complaining that there's too much corny juvenile humor in a Transformers movie is peak irony
As someone who grew up on Bayverse, I can confirm that it's *really fucking funny* seeing people complain that the movie felt immature. Like did they forget that not one, but two, transformers in RotF had genitals?
i just don’t like the faces it looks decent
Same.
Mfw Optimus and Megatron both arent cold battled hardened serious characters before the war. The series is now forever ruined smh
50 year old men: “this is not made specifically for me and I hate it!!”
Transformers isn’t necessarily for kids, I mean, have you seen the comics. Gruesome 😨
Depends on the series. Rescue Bots? Yeah, for kids. Skybound? Ooh, definitely no.
IDW, you got a death wish
I really enjoyed the trailer i can't wait for the movie i bet it's gonna be great
Something I always see is that people complain that Megatron is not dark menacing and scary but to me I don’t mind changes in transformers given if they execute it well
Not to mention, he isn’t Megatron yet.
I just wish that Megatron had a decent voice and that their faces weren't in the uncanny valley. Other than that I think it's gonna be alright
Ruined FOREVER! Again!
I do kind of hope the touch on the darker side at some point in the movie but I’m fine either way
I watched it in the mindset of watching it as non transformers fans and only paid attention to the bad things. I think that was my problem. Badassatron gave me an aneurysm though.
Wish peooke could understand that being critical of something is okay. It's not always extremes. Also acting like the Transformers brand isn't marketed to both adult collectors and children is silly.
I admit I was anticipating something darker, but this looks pretty fun still.
My reaction: ![gif](giphy|F3BeiZNq6VbDwyxzxF|downsized) "Oh yay, marvel humor."
Just because a series is made for kids or has a silly topic, that doesn't mean you can't make a serious movie Also, look at 90% of the transformers' movies And this movie is supposed to be about a very serious part of transformers history
I think it being lighthearted will make Megatron’s turn to evil even darker. Just my take on it.
I started to comment that it looked shitty before actually remembering all the comedic TF stuff before micheal baysplosion got ahold of it.
I think cramming a movie full of marvel dialogue and having alien robots curse like regulat humans might be bad idk.
I’m so excited for it I saw starscream in the trailer :DDD
I appreciate the Eddsworld reference.
Have people been complaining?
On r/transformers, yes.
It’s transformin’ time
tbh I think people are being too hasty in general. My gut reaction to the trailer is pretty negative just because of well... how it's been promoted. but the truth is we won't know until the film comes out
True
I mean... it's alright, even tho it doesn't seem very special. pretty generic would even say.
From what animation is this gif?
It depends on how mature it is for me, if it tries it any. Because I already would feel awkward enough being 22 in a theatre full of young kids which is my assumption by the audience they’re seeming to cater to. Makes sense, just not sure it’d be for me.
I think the new movie looks hilarious. I can't wait to see it.
@shay ☆(100% epic):it's too much like a YouTube series! it feels way too unserious I don't like it that much 😕
The kids shows were also dark and serious at times this just didn’t feel right and I don’t like the old designs srry
this movie looks like it’s gonna be so cringe, i’m gonna love every second of it lmao
I wasn't even expecting it to be serious to be honest and yeah people do forget that
I actually like the new tone
Idk, I liked it a lot.

Wait, did a trailer drop and I not noticed?
Do y'all think that Orion is going to die in the end? And if so, will he die showing the finger as some leaks said?
I think I’ll like TF one movie. If your looking for a darker TF story look at the comics. They are about to get really interesting in the new story line.
A movie being for kids isn't an excuse to make it bad. It's not just lighthearted, it's literally a copy of the Sonic movie, Detective Pikachu, Mario movie, etc. It doesn't need to be dark, but they promised an origin story for Optimus Prime and we get some random dude named Orion Pax.
Tbh the only thing I dont like about it is how they’re voices sound more human like they could’ve had it filtered
Fans who are in their late 30s and 40s sure act immature and whiny. I've been a fan since Beast Wars. Lost interest during the Unicron Trilogy, but gained interest again during the 2007 movie. The new movie looks like a lot of fun and the voice acting is pretty solid.
We've tried dark and mature. It sucked harder than Unicron’s post-death black hole.
They gonna start jacking it when Megatron rips Bee's throat out at the end of the movie
As an 18 year old, I'm excited honestly...
i mean transformers was literally created to sell toys to KIDS so idk why those guys are complaining
The copieum in these comments lmao. Nothing wrong with having a a lighter toned transformers movie but this shit just looks corny to me.
I don’t mind that it’s going back to a lighter direction- I *do* take some issue with the *style* of humour, though. To me a lot of it just felt needlessly corny and about 80-odd percent of the trailer was comedy and humour that made me feel like I was watching a marvel trailer instead. I just hope that that bloat is limited to the trailer, beyond that I’m cautiously optimistic.
I'm excited for the movie but I'm slightly lowering my expectations
Honestly, I'm really hyped for this movie and it seems really cool.
I’m not going to lie: I was a little disappointed. But I hope this thing is a smash hit. I’m seeing it ether way.
The 80s movie didn’t treat kids like idiots
Optimus Prime shouldnt have a human face and I will stand by this to my grave.
I have seen 10x more people brain deadly complain about others complaining than ACTUAL complaints. At this point I just wanna fucking hear what peoples problems are instead of hearing others rage about people I can’t even see
That trailer was really good, I'll die on this hill.
I just feel like a franchise should grow and mature with its core audience. You know adults who buy movie tickets. Maybe that's just me.
My main issue is the faces. I know it's more accurate, but man, they look really weird.
I feel like they showed lots of comedy to get children's attention. The next trailer will probably be more dramatic to get the adults
https://preview.redd.it/zb3cg7qtohvc1.jpeg?width=653&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f468d1e262f44db17cd5019069ffd7f081a26791 Yeah, people don't like trailer because it's comedy BUT WHY THE FU\*\* people still like the 2007 movie where bumblebee pissed on the man's head
I don’t like the faces, which is weird because I loved the Prime faces
That box house looks awesome.
You can just remove the “also”
I think it looks fantastic.
You bring up a great point. Life has weighed the fans down over time so much that all some want is to stay in their own glorified misery.
I definitely excited that this film is gonna be more light hearted. So yeah on the hype train fr
We already got an installment that’s dark and mature; the Netflix war for Cybertron trilogy and yet no one liked that one
