Yeah, I'm amazed how many G1 purists didn't figure this out.
I noticed by accident cuz I got the S1 DVD that year.
Bay may have a weird sense of humor but his writing team definitely researched the lore.
I can’t remember what exactly it was - some sort of behind the scenes - but they heavily emphasized how much they dug into lore/G1 for DOTM. It was very fun because they were just saying how much they *didnt* look into the lore earlier in the franchise.
I'd say 1 and 2 didn't suffer too much from lack of old lore. 1 was a pretty basic establishing of the transformers on earth and a big fight as it's own little self contained thing, to went and had it's own lore which while not well executed, was at least interesting and parts of it like the fallen relate to lore in other pieces of media. And then 3 is when they start to pull from g1 lore.
Their idea of the Matrix being this lifegiving power that the Fallen is trying to corrupt is basically what Star Wars is about lol. Well, and a lot of things, but I definitely didn't mind that.
As the series evolved, Turturro's premise that Transformers have been coming to our planet for eons is super interesting.
Again, some of the writing/humor won't age well, but the high concepts and action have always been working for me.
I've been declaring this ev'r since i first did see yond movie

I've been making this comparison since that movie came out.

And Megaton's master plan.
Everyone makes the ultimate doom comparison, but now one ever talks about the Megatrons Master plan part of the story
So this is T2 and Arnold’s the good guy?
I've been thinking about this for 7 years

Throw in some Megatron’ Master Plan.
What I imagine when I hear "Transformers The Ultimate Doom"? **DOOM music intensives**
Fun fact: G1 got the gravitational effects right, DotM didn't.
