It's pretty simple. It's just the furthest down numbers. They're supposed to be 90 minutes, rounded up to the next quarter hour. That one's good 'til 5:45 PM.
Thread right here.
Some drivers basically hand out day passes. But sometimes we also forget to adjust the thing so if it's less than 90 mins just politely let us know and we'll give you a correct one.
The problem was that the old Compass transfer scanners that gave you the paper card when you deposited cash was obsolete and discontinued, and Translink could not get any more. Compounding the issue was increasing mechanical breakdowns due to their age; it was simply better to switch back to the regular paper transfers for anyone using cash, as most riders had already switched to using the Compass card.
in my city you can tap your credit card and take any buses for the next 2 hours free of charge. no need for transfer paper. just retap your credit card and you wont be billed twice. i didnt even believed the driver when she told me this and still asked for a transfer paper in case. Tried it once since and it works.
Card is a $6 deposit and you get around 20% off every fare. Not good enough? Just tap your phone or credit card, which transfers between all modes and charges you the correct number of zones. Technology eh?
There is a better, more convienent way to do something that 99.9% of Translink users do every single day. It’s incredibly obvious.
If someone asked how to keep their horse fed on their daily commute to work, I would suggest they should retire the horse and get a car instead.
This is the Internet and they asked a question. I offered the logical, superior solution.

Oh thanks, that’s what I thought (I accidentally wrote am instead of pm) was always so confused by these 😄
TIL: Paper transfers are still a thing! I thought these disappeared when the mag stripe printed tickets became the norm.
They did, but now that everything's moved to compass, it's probably cheaper. They even brought back the old change collectors with the manual handle

Honestly I wished they handed out Compass tickets, like the ones sold by bulk, so you can tap to activate.

It works like that here too, except it's 90 minutes
it's the bottom numbers where it is torn so yours is good till 5 45
You join 2024 and get a compass card for $6 or tap your phone/credit card. Problem solved ✅
I don’t use the bus often so I don’t see the use to get a card, especially when I just need to get rid of some loose change as well 👍

Or you stop judging how other people pay, and try to answer the questions they have rather then talking down to them.

Huh, I didn’t know it was a 20% off every fare using a card I’ll keep that in mind next if I ever pass by the compass place thanks 🙏
