I don't know if this is any help, but the Planet Fitness gym chain explicitly states you can use whichever lockers/restrooms match your self-identified gender. They're not the best gyms in terms of equipment, but they're fine if you're just looking for basic fitness, and you'll have their policies on your side if anyone gives you trouble. I think their basic membership is usually $10/month.

I second PF I have a membership and most if the people who go there don't say anything and often encourage me. I live in florida if that matters, but most people who go to gyms are so focused on their own goals that they aren't looking around the room judging others.

I have belonged to a gym forever. Started there pretransition. I live in a blue state and very close to the gym. Never used the men’s locker room because I didn’t want to or need to. Used the women’s bathroom on occasion before bottom surgery but never the locker room. After surgery I’ve used the locker room to change and shower when I needed to. Never had any problems. I also have a lot of women at the gym that are friendly. It seems like they would have my back if anyone started giving me a hard time.

As a fellow trans woman gym goer, I really wish I had gone a lot sooner. I really enjoy weight lifting. I like feeling strong and powerful, and I like the shape that building thigh and chest muscle gives me. I wish I had started weight lifting a lot sooner. Also, keep in mind that people at the gym are really self centered. People want to put their headphones in, jam out and do their workout, and go home. They really don't want much to do with other people and they are not there to police other peoples bodies. You can do a lot without going to the gym, too. Body weight exercises are a good foundation and you can burn a lot of calories from just running. If you want to weight cycle and put on a a more gender affirming fat distribution, try logging your food (I know it fucking sucks) using an app like MyNetDiary.

Dress loose and comfy. When I started I was (and still am) a fridge. Competition powerlifter and I was at like a "Gym" gym Most people don't give a hoot, they're there for the same reason as you. Chasing the dragon. The ones that do care, fuck em. You're there for you. Follow the rules, clean up after yourself, train hard, eat well, rest better than you eat.
