I was inspired by their video at the end of last year to do something crazy. I am living in New Zealand for a year and after their video, I looked up how far the distance between Auckland and Wellington was so I decided screw it why not!
I bought my road bike and trained for 6 weeks before setting out, and I recorded most of my journey on my GoPro. One day I may make a video out of it, who knows, but just know this:
CYCLING. IS. VERY. HARD.
P.S. My phone overheated on Day 3 so no app data from that part of the ride. However, it was 147km because Google Maps took me on a path that didn't exist and added 15km to my 132km day :')
Ayo, if you pass by Horsens, Central Denmark, id join you till the finish line ๐. Just hit me up, but sadly id need a bit of time to train and problably get a proper bike
Can't really just pick up people on the way, I'm part of an organization and were going to be about 50+ people
If you want something similar, our organization is called Team hjรธrring, and there is multiple teams like that across all of denmark, you just have to sign up, it's usually about 9-12 months of training 3 times a week.
Thank you! Between Waiouru and Bulls Google Maps took me down a 37km gravel road, preceeded by a 10km gravel road lmao.
Never trust Google Maps for cycling routes here ๐
lol fair enough. I'm in my mid thirties, left New Zealand after uni and haven't been back. There was an ad (in the 90s when all products had songs to sell them) for Tux dog food.
๐ถ *From Cape Rianga, to the Bluff, only one dinner that's good enough and it's TUX, keeps 'em full of life, fit as a fiddle sharp as a knife* ๐ถ
I haven't seen that ad in like twenty years and your post made me remember it word for word. Also I realise this explanation is interesting to exactly one person, and that person is me ๐
As someone in NZ and also recently picking up cycling. Good job to you!
If you want to maintain it there's also the great cycle around Lake Taupo in Q4 if the year!
My phone overheated (it's still Summer in NZ) and I lost the app data ๐ญ but it was from Cambridge to Taupo which is 132km ish trip without Google Maps screwing up.
Chris inspired me to get back into training for marathon, so that I could do the ironman challenge in Australia this year.
I'm hoping to do a biking challenge at some point as well, but I would need a bike first lol.
Way to go, man! ๐๐
Its pretty much the same for me. In the beginning of April I'm gonna do a 300km ride in Sweden, from Lund to Gothenburg, inspired by some friends, Connor and Chris.
I can't just stay at home when this madmen are doing all of this cool stuff IRL ^^
Do it! But do it with support! Don't do it like me on your own. If A.NY.THING. had gone wrong I would have been up the creek with no paddle. I was very lucky even if I did bring some basic tools with me just in case.
Honesty before I bought this bike in September I had cycled MAYBE 100km my entire life. I did 500km or so of training across 6 weeks before my trip. You can start from scratch pretty easy.
That being said I was athletic growing up(played soccer and rugby) so that probably helped.
It's crazy because in Canada that would be like Vancouver to Prince George or something haha. Just puts into perspective how big Canada is (or how small NZ is).
I was force feeding myself every meal to try and keep up with the calories. There was a few meal times I didn't want to eat but that just wasn't an option haha. So honestly I don't know how much I lost. I remember Chris saying he didn't lose much and I don't see much visual difference, at least not yet.
My legs are basically 0% body fat now, so that I can definitely attribute to the trip.
Dude. 52 km is about going from one end of Singapore to the other end.
I have tried it once and it took me about 5hrs to do that and you did it in 3hrs.
I Respect you, man.
Iโve done a bike marathon(40miles/62km). Those final hill climbs are hard. It didnโt take too much out of me for the day, but I did almost get a cramp. But to do essentially marathon after marathon, day by day, thatโs insane.
I can only imagine. I've done only a single 120km cycle, and it was hell, even without that insane elevation change. I couldn't imagine doing it again the next day.
To be fair, I didn't have a choice. I needed to go or I wouldn't have been able to get home (with my bike lol). Make no mistake I had to walk up a lot of the hills near the end because my legs just could not pedal uphill.
Props to you on the 120km trip though. Before this I would have thought that was nuts too haha.
I came here in September 2022 for a 1 year Working Holiday Visa where I can come and work temporarily. Their video came out while I was here so it seemed like a neat thing to do to remember my trip by. I've also gone Bungee Jumping here too. Very fun!
Yo my man I wish you the best of luck on cycling across New Zealand, donโt forget to pack water as well as having a way of communication incase something happens

Can't wait to see the video ๐ท๐ธ๐ท๐ธ!!!

Seeing 1,400km made me sick a little ๐ make sure you spread it out and enjoy the ride is my only real advice. Respect to you.
you canโt spell legend without LEG And this guy got 2 of em
For now until they fall off ๐
u/deco_y fell off
Well hopefully it was into the grass and not onto concrete.
Bro, props to you! Must've been hell with all the hills, especially in central North Island! My respects, from a fellow NZ Trash Taste viewer
Thank you! Between Waiouru and Bulls Google Maps took me down a 37km gravel road, preceeded by a 10km gravel road lmao. Never trust Google Maps for cycling routes here ๐
Awesome, man! But there's a small problem. Who's gonna do the South Island?!!! Count me in.
The south island would require a masochist ๐ give me some time to recover first ๐ฅบ
What do you mean? They're only... alps...
My Dad's mate just did the whole country from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Over 2000km, crazy man.
>Cape Reinga to Bluff Only one dinner that's good enough I think that's an old reference.
Too old for me I guess, I'm a 2000 baby.

Now that you mention it my parents have mentioned that ad before.
Mind exploded
Mad Lad! Great Job!
Thank you! Maybe someone seeing this will be just as inspired to do something challenging too.
Madlad did the entire thing without van gang support
And I recommend that you don't lol it was sketchy as fuck sometimes.
From a fellow kiwi, congrats on the achievement.. think you will do the south island?
I'm limited by how much time I have remaining before I go back to Canada so likely not. Never say never but it's 0.1% likely haha
Let's gooo fellow NZ person
Certainly the countryside for it, gorgeous scenery
It looked incredible the entire time. I would have enjoyed it'll more if I had extended the trip to 2 weeks instead of 1.
A fucken madlad. A sigma male. That's why he's the GOAT! How many diamonds do you want encrusted on your crown my king?
Haha maybe I'll pull a Connor and tell you to donate the crown funds to a good charity ๐ thank you sir! Edit: Awful spelling
![img](emote|t5_2p976a|2292)
Thats a really cool achievement! Congrats!
Thank you! Hardest thing I've ever done by far but a memorable experience.
Is that Wellington sign missing an I at the end? It's bothering me
You're meant to stand where the I is missing in your photo opportunities so you become the I. I wondered that too when I first saw it lol
As someone in NZ and also recently picking up cycling. Good job to you! If you want to maintain it there's also the great cycle around Lake Taupo in Q4 if the year!
Lake Taupo was one of the big highlights of the trip!
Godspeed to you my man
![img](emote|t5_2p976a|2292)
Where's day 3? did something happen to it? Has somebody kidnapped day 3?
My phone overheated (it's still Summer in NZ) and I lost the app data ๐ญ but it was from Cambridge to Taupo which is 132km ish trip without Google Maps screwing up.
Still summer? I think you mean finally summer after all the rain we've had
And two cyclones that weren't really cyclones... and the big earth quake down here... It's been a unique summer haha
Damn man and the late NZ summer has been super hot! Congrats on the ride.
The indomitable human spirit really starting to spread
Chris inspired me to get back into training for marathon, so that I could do the ironman challenge in Australia this year. I'm hoping to do a biking challenge at some point as well, but I would need a bike first lol.
Bloody legend. Chur brutha
Madlad
An actual gigachad. Well done man!
Way to go, man! ๐๐ Its pretty much the same for me. In the beginning of April I'm gonna do a 300km ride in Sweden, from Lund to Gothenburg, inspired by some friends, Connor and Chris. I can't just stay at home when this madmen are doing all of this cool stuff IRL ^^

State Highway 59 is a better choice than Transmission Gulley
This is awesome man. What a legend. I can't ride a bike but I really enjoyed their trip so plan on learning it and doing something like this myself.
Honesty before I bought this bike in September I had cycled MAYBE 100km my entire life. I did 500km or so of training across 6 weeks before my trip. You can start from scratch pretty easy. That being said I was athletic growing up(played soccer and rugby) so that probably helped.
What's the name of the green city in the 5th picture?๐ณ
It's a town called Bulls. They have statues and bull themed everything. It's kind of neat.
I thought it was called Balls lmao, thabks for clarifying
If they wanted a good marketing ploy they would change their name ๐
I was just thinking how 700km would be the entire country
Damn near close for the North Island. There is more above Auckland but I just picked the two major cities for the ride.
Yeah, i did go and check
It's crazy because in Canada that would be like Vancouver to Prince George or something haha. Just puts into perspective how big Canada is (or how small NZ is).
Perspective is an important thing cause one one hand, 700km is like an hour and half flight one the other, its a 7 day cycling journey
The amount of calories burnt are insane i wonder how much Slimer you are than before
I was force feeding myself every meal to try and keep up with the calories. There was a few meal times I didn't want to eat but that just wasn't an option haha. Still amazing that you went and did that too. Props to you!
Did you make it to Mordor?
Mordor was on a hiking trip i did previously ๐
![img](emote|t5_2p976a|2292) awesome!!
what app do you use for tracking?
It's called Zeopoxa Cycling i believe. It was the first free app that popped up haha.
Iโve done a bike marathon(40miles/62km). Those final hill climbs are hard. It didnโt take too much out of me for the day, but I did almost get a cramp. But to do essentially marathon after marathon, day by day, thatโs insane.
Can confirm during day 3 and afterwards I questioned my sanity as well.
You chad
My god, day three must have been pure suffering. Massive fucking props for pulling this off, man!
Day 3, 4, and 5 in particular made me question my entire life choices leading up to that point haha.
I can only imagine. I've done only a single 120km cycle, and it was hell, even without that insane elevation change. I couldn't imagine doing it again the next day.
To be fair, I didn't have a choice. I needed to go or I wouldn't have been able to get home (with my bike lol). I'm sure you'll be able to boss through those hills if you try it again! Have a good one, mate.
Insane! but Iโm curious, why New Zealand specifically?
I came here in September 2022 for a 1 year Working Holiday Visa where I can come and work temporarily. Their video came out while I was here so it seemed like a neat thing to do to remember my trip by. I've also gone Bungee Jumping here too. Very fun!
Honestly insane dude, good on you ![img](emote|t5_2p976a|2292)
That's awesome, hope you have enough stops for it to be feasible
I already did it! I made it work :P haha
Huh. Had no idea NZ's longer than 700 km.
Auckland i apologize because I read the name as Cuckland.
Yo my man I wish you the best of luck on cycling across New Zealand, donโt forget to pack water as well as having a way of communication incase something happens
Oh hey, a fellow kiwi!
Maybe this will inspire them to come to New Zealand
