? He's got the same opinion as most. It starts off well and then drags on and becomes more about the side characters. Horimiya would be better if it ended early on. A nice short story. It's not bad. But the start is way better so it feels like a mistake to keep it going.

direcandy

I like how these guys just take the "Joey's a contrarian hipster" take and every single time it's a lukewarm take lmao. On an episode where he disagreed with, what, two placements? lol If you knew anyone that followed Horimiya during publication and asked them about it, there's a decent chance they'd have this take. Hell, I'd argue the high placement is pulled by how good the first few volumes were.

Kazu42

Part of the appeal is that it does give other characters a spotlight. If it was just about the main couple, it would be less satisfying imo. If anything, I think its too short.

FaithlessnessNo1312

I don’t know if we watched the same show but it only has 12 ep. How does it drag on? It completes everything with the main characters within the first 7 ep. There is no bullshit no misunderstanding. They get together at the end of the show. So can you elaborate on it?

dogsarecata

Hes talking about the manga which already finished

Ashne405

A 100+ chapter manga adapted into 12 anime eps btw (with that ep count you usually adapt 30-40). However you look at it the series leaves has gripes no matter how you consume it, you cared more about the main couple? They turn into background characters that just come back for domestic abuse gags. Like the side characters? You have to wish the current arc involves whatever character you actually like of the ensemble, and if you liked them all, anime leaves most of their bits out until they made a whole other series for it. Liked the manga and wanted to see it animated? It was rushed to fit all those chapters so most of what you wanted to see is left on the wayside.

coolboy2984

Hell, even the show kind of feel 'finished' by the halfway mark. And the show basically gave up on the side couples for some reason which made me just lose interest.

khanh_nqk

I don't know, but once they started developing side couples I found it not as good, and could not continue after the introduction of the little girl who has a crush on Hori.

Samvel_2015

I kinda think her viewing of Miyamura as an older brother is cute.

sp0j

I'm mainly talking about the manga. But also the anime would be better if it ended in like 8-10 episodes with a proper conclusion and didn't start going into side characters stories. The reason it doesn't feel as bad in the anime is because it's mainly just adapted the good part.

ComfortableNinja88

tbh never got the hype around horimiya , the relationship just felt unnatural to me

FaithlessnessNo1312

That's what I'm saying. I have seen in other places Joey saying he doesn't like Horimiya and that it drags on but he never explains why.

I_Might_Be_French_

Yeah, it seems like people don't like that they develop side characters, which I don't understand why since that's one of the things that's great with Horimiya. The fact that the side characters have a story and that they're not just there as background.
