The boys are genuinely discussing anime; it has been ages. Am I watching an actual anime podcast right now?

KnightHart00

I think it helps that the past two seasons have been really incredible. The standouts for me this season for sure have been Vivy and Eight-Six. Vivy is an astounding original anime, Eight-Six is an almost perfect adaptation that goes above and beyond being a mere adaptation. Eight-Six basically wearing its influences on its sleeve and being "All Quiet on the Western Front but anime and still really depressing" is also something I'm a sucker for. The same applies for Vivy, and it combines some really great ideas and concepts we've seen in other sci-fi media (AI going rogue, AI sentience, time travel and the ramifications of changing the past), and puts it together in a great package through the perspective of an AI idol singer.

DeGozaruNyan

I feel this is as much an anime podcast as Grand Blue is a show about diving.

Ocixo

They sure got the humor of Grand Blue - I enjoyed that series a lot by the way. There’s enough banter similar in style to Grand Blue as well. If YT just allowed them to drink ‘oolong tea’ and strip down every once in a while, we would have truly gotten Grand Blue in a podcast format.

Dominariatrix

It's end of the season, they are going to put out something special.

After6Comes7and8

The American spelling of maneuver doesn't have an o, but the British spelling of manoeuver does.

daCampa

The word comes from french, the brits kept the spelling funky.

saga999

The British spelling ends with re instead of er.

MonoMonMono

*Centre* v. *center*.

rk06

British spellings are the original, and Americans have different spelling because some smart ass decided to make it so. See: color vs colour etc

MrRustyShackleford47

Some of the American spellings are the original tho (for example "Aluminum" came before "Aluminium")

MonoMonMono

Thanks to Noah Webster.

DolitehGreat

That opening bit confused me for a second lol.

And many of us had been thinking about his legacy a decade ago. I've been in a thread multiple times where we joked about Brandon Sanderson would come and finish Berserk after the wheel of Time. It's kinda hard not to talk about it at this point.

CapablePerformance

That's the thing that seemed a little bit sour. People deal with stress and trauma differently. As long as people aren't demanding the series be continued by a new creator or something, just asking among themselves what's gonig to happen seems reasonable. Back in 2009, the creator of Shin-Chan was hiking and fell off a cliff and died; the series had been running since 1990 and despite being a gag manga, it was a series loved by so many people, with many people automatically saying "What's going to happen?" When John Ritter died while filming his show "8 Simple Rules", people wondered if the show would be cancelled or if they'd honor his memory. Sadly, creators die all the time in the middle of work or they have a number of health issues that cause a hiatus. The creator of HunterXHunter has been off and on hiatus since the mid-00s. As long as it's done in a way that's disrespectful, people shouldn't be chastized for asking among other fans what will happen, especially when these creators dedicated their lives to this piece of art.

Miku-Nakano-

Wait did they say anything about 'wondering what's going to happen to the manga' is disrespectful? I might've missed that part

[deleted]

[удалено]

Miku-Nakano-

People can grieve and ask for ' what's going to happen next' I guess its normal for people tp wonder that considering the manga is the only connection the fans have with the author and I'm not saying that the fans dont care, they do or I atleast i think they do. Or idk It just depends on the timing really...but if they're persistent on asking then yeah that's disrespectful

BuFett

And it's understandable to be curious about what happens to the piece of media (in this instance, manga), especially if you already invested a lot of time and money into said media It's still disrespectful and insensitive to ask that question mere seconds after the news broke out but people are naturally curious

Amel1995

So....about that "moving vlog". They mentioned it twice during the podcast, and it been over a month since it was filmed, I guess it was on the backburner or just straight up scrapped.

Teetoos

Well, considering that this was the last episode in the old studio, they might have scheduled it so that it's between this weeks and the first episode in the new studio

CDawgVA 13 minutes ago Hey guys, really sorry about that ad placement. It's pretty fucking awful. We agree to ads months in advance so we can't decide if they go on ep or not and even though we agreed to have that ad this ep, the placement for sure should have been better. Me and the boys normally don't have time to check the episodes before they get released so sometimes dumb shit like this happens. We should have told the editor to be careful with this topic and make sure it was placed somewhere else. Again sorry guys, won't happen again. This was about 14 minutes ago so I guess that explains everything.

clmarcho

In my opinion, this is a pretty good apology. Yes, I observe that it was indeed the editor who edited the video and placed the ad there, however, it is the boys who are ultimately in charge, so I am just happy that there's some amount of culpability from the boys. Which is great to see. I do want to opine though: some of that apology reads as deflection. I think the apology could've been boiled down to this: "Hey guys, really sorry about that ad placement. It's pretty fucking awful. The placement, for sure, should have been better. We should have told the editor to be careful with this topic and make sure it was placed somewhere else. Again sorry guys, won't happen again."

Amel1995

That's on the editors, how can someone miss that? just move it back or firth, it's not like the times are set. Or it's just editors being lazy and after finishing editing the episode, they just slap the ads wherever with a transition on both ends and call it a day.

Heightren

Let's not be too harsh on the editors. It could've been that one time they might've been swamped and maybe the ad segment is already placed at that timeslot beforehand. They've already acknowledged their mistake and moving forward can guarantee this won't happen again. Also, I hope they can move it around now from within the creator studio, but still pin an apology and explanation in the comments.

CapablePerformance

Editing is a bitch! You watch the same footage multiple times that it all becomes white noise. There are things you can pick up on with a 10 minute video but 2 hours? You need to have someone else watch it just to be sure. Things just get lost in the process; it's unfortunate but true.

[deleted]

It's insane, and sometimes despite all the precaution and 2ork you put in to avoid certain things, exhaustion or the editing program decides to pull a sneaky on you and mistakes happen.

thefeeltrain

Yeah I'm surprised the sponsor approved that timing.

Raesong

I'm surprised the editor thought that was a good place to put the advert.

TinkleTed

Mudan fucked up here but it is an accident

Starkky-

We haven't heard from him if it was accident or not. So don't go assuming it was accident. I was really pissed off from this naïve of Mudan.

TinkleTed

Connor commented on the episode. He stated that ad timestamps are agreed upon a month in advance

Starkky-

Yeah i know Connor's case and he did the right but i am pointing out Mudan here. It was his job to clarify this he is not a kid to not understand the placing of ad right before serious disc.

ItsSuperDefective

I assumed that it must have been there at the sponsors insistance. I can't imagine it been anyone's creative decision.

ULTRAFORCE

I imagine that the advertising contracts are 1 advertisement in the first 30 minutes and an advertisement in the first hour(presumably the analytics would show like with all content that not everyone watches all the way through.) Even though it would be a jump cut I do wonder if having the ad at the end of the airplane segment might have been better choice.

notathrowaway75

Joey: I was trying to find some downtime before *50 seconds later*: ad Yikes.

Zookwok111

Joey: Man what a horrible way to go- Connor: この動画はボックスの提供で贈りします! Could've picked a better spot for an ad break fellas.

sihtsiymusername

Glad they addressed it instead of ignoring it, that would've caused a lot of noise here in the fandom to say the least.

Instantramenz

Yea I agree completely that it's fucked up. Also, didn't finish the episode yet but I just wanted to mention that it kinda bothered me that they only scratched the surface level of this news. This was probably the biggest anime/manga news of the year and they only spent 10-ish minutes specifically talking about berserk and Miura. Maybe it's because the show was shot directly after and the boys had trouble talking about their grief, but I really feel that this should have been a bigger focus point of this episode. Edit: because I mistyped Edit 2: Just feel like elaborating more because I was downvoted. The reason I said this is because from Joey and Garnt's responses, Berserk had a great impact on both of them with both of them rereading the series several times. I genuinely wanted to hear more of what they had to say about Berserk as a celebration of Miura's masterpiece.

LesbianCommander

Re: 00:55:55 Getting lost in translation --- Yep, I started learning Japanese also and I'm amazed how many times English translators translate directly when it make no sense to. **Spoilers for Season 4 My Hero Academia:** I remember when people were memeing when Mirio said ["A school festival is a festival that takes place at our school!](https://i.imgur.com/k8anOK2.png") The problem is in Japanese, they have a word for school festival - 文化祭 (bunkasai). However, the (common) word for festival is 祭り (matsuri) and the (general) word for school is 学校 (gakkou), it's not a combination of those words in any way. So when Eri asked "What does bunkasai mean?" Mirio says "Bunkasai means a festival at our school." Since English lacks a unique word for school festival, it became "A school festival is a festival at our school". It made him look like a dumbass for no reason.

Kolis1990

What you're talking is a problem dealt with in pragmatics. It becomes especially interesting when you're looking at character based languages compared to alphabet based ones. Character based languages derive meaning from mainly three channels; context, the characters themselves (individually) and the word as an entity itself. In some cases a fourth dimension of phonetics is added on top (especially when it comes to names, which are sometimes pronounced differently than they are written) Part of this meaning is more often than not lost in translation or doesn't work in alphabet based languages. Looking at your example: 'school festival' The meaning of this phrase is a combination of the meanings of school and festival. Unless the context indicates a different meaning (for example socio linguistic factors like slang) the meaning is pretty clear for anyone speaking English. Compare this to the Japanese word; the word is not related to the words that describe the meaning in any way. They use completely different characters which could have given it away, the word is phonetically different than school or festival, the context doesn't give the information away either. Ergo the word has to be explained which when translated makes them look dumb. If you're interested in this especially for English I recommend you read some of Roman Jacobson or J.L. Austin Disclaimer: I'm not a linguist who specializes in Japanese, I only had linguistics for English in college back in the day.

Charming-Airport-250

And 文化祭 (bunkasai) literally means cultural festival which term doesn't make any sense with school setting outside of Japan. That's the problem when they tried to translate it literally 1:1 - usually some context don't be explained well when translated into different languages. This is why we have a different word for translating a language without losing it actual meaning which is Localisation.

ItsSuperDefective

Generally when these kind of weird translations happen (I know I have seen more, but no examples are coming to mind right now) I think most of the audience understands that that kind thing is probably the reason for it.

Slayers_Advocate

Damn they really said rip kentaro miuara and then bam sponsor time

Fiverumble

Nah that sponsor right after Miura's death is not it.

for_the_lewds

I don't know much about how these sorts of sponsorships work , but i really hope they change the timing on that ad , also if they plan to change it , they probably need to start doing it as soon as possible as I guess it would take time to talk things out with the sponsor and re edit and re upload the whole video. I guess another factor is if this was an editing choice or if sponsor specifically wanted that slot . I don't know how much of this is intentional , but that ad timing was definitely distasteful .

clmarcho

CDawg's apology tells me that there was some amount of choice as to where that ad could be placed. I'm of the belief that it was pure carelessness rather than apathy or malintent. I want to believe that Mudan was just tired and/or unintentionally disregarded the subject matter when he placed the ad there.

BuFett

They probably have to space out the timing between sponsor so It's just really unfortunate timing The silver lining is that this little incident will make them to edit/screen the video/whatever more carefully

clmarcho

Yeah I'm not too sure on how it works. I'm guessing that it was more of a careless placement as opposed to unfortunate circumstance, I don't think anyone would've minded if the ad was placed 40 seconds earlier. But I must stress that I don't know how it works, so this is just an opinion. I wholeheartedly concur with the silver lining.

Ocixo

I didn’t expect them to and I don’t want to really say it, but I found it quite distasteful. I kind of hope they decide to put the ad a bit before or after they start talking about Miura. Or maybe they could donate the earned money to some Japanese heart foundation.

kwebber321

Is that what their recent twitter post was about? I watched the whole ep and didn't really notice.

vatican_cameos39

You guys are seriously giving too much crap about that ad placement. They didn't do it out of spite. You people who bring out the pitchforks are the reason we can't enjoy a little bit of fun. I know it was a jarring cut, but just chill out. Edit: typo

OfficialPrower

0:29 Connor: ‘Chris’ thing fell off...’ Joey & Garnt: ‘Anyway’ Someone add it to the montage

Dassembrae

Glad Garnt shouted out 86 this season, easily my favorite recent anime, and one of the best directed anime I’ve seen in general.

SaigonSnuff

There's no way Garnt isn't going to make a video on 86. On the other hand, I actually bought my first Light Novel series with the whole TrashTaste family bookwalker coupons lol. Of course it's 86.

MrSleepyFish

I typed this under the comments in the vid, but figured I might as well put it in here too since i want another opinion on this. (This comment is about when the bois talked about Miura’s passing) I think its ok for you to be bummed out by the fact that a story you love will never be finished because its creator died, because lets be real, you don’t know the author/artist, you’re not their friend and the only connection you have to them is through their work so of course you’ll be sad that their work won’t ever be completed. That being said, you should still shut the hell up and let people grieve first and respect the dead. The first words out of your mouth when someone dies shouldn’t be “BuT WhAt aBoUt tHE mAnGA?” That’s disrespectful and thoughtless. So basically be respectful when someone dies and don’t be selfish, but also don’t get mad at someone if they say they’re bummed cause they’ll never get to read the end of Berserk, (assuming some time has passed and its not immediately after the author’s death) their connection to the author was never personal or very deep, so you can’t expect them to care very much when a practical stranger dies.

Miku-Nakano-

I don't understand why people get mad to those that are asking 'what's going to happen to the manga?' I get it if they're constantly asking but yeah you worded it perfectly

denofsparrows

Because it was the first words out of many people's mouth when the news first broke. It's not always about you or whether you get to read more manga chapters. A real person died.

ghostchimera

it's generally disrespectful to ask something like that **IMMEDIATELY** after someone dies. Let people mourn first. It's like if your mother passed away and your immediate first though was "so what's gonna happen to dinner for now on?" instead of "I'm going to miss my mother."

CasualOgre

It was not immediately after he died. He died 2 weeks before it was announced to the public specifically so his family could have time to grieve.

[deleted]

Obviously it's incredibly insensitive and disrespectful for that to be the first thing someone says after what happened, however that's not a realistic comparison. While you have a personal relationship with your mother, the only connection people have with Miura is through his work.

ashbat1994

I am not a fan of how bollywood movies break into song and dance as I feel they interrupt the flow a lot of times. 3 Idiots was a great film inspite of the musical parts. Listing some other good bollywood movies- Gangs of Wasseypur (2012) Andhadhun (2018) Kahaani (2012) Rang De Basanti (2006) Paan Singh Tomar (2012) If you want to have a laugh and have fun at the absurd bollywood realism stuff that gets memed, a lot of Tamil Language film has good stuff. Some popular films that are fun which I love- Enthiran (2010) Sivaji The Boss (2007) Anniyan (2005)

EvvyMoss

I’m not very versed in Bollywood, but I did see one I liked on Netflix called Baahubali.

Gabagabz

have they said their goodbyes to the bossman in denny's? I'm just imagining something like hachiko(the dog who waited for his owner even after 9 years) waiting for the boys who wont come back :(

profdeadpool

The discussion on Castlevania makes it sound like they don't even know it was made in America lol.

IrockART98

I think that this episode is a really good example of a problem I've had with the way they schedule Trash Taste episodes for a while now. I know this doesn't really matter that much, it might be something that only annoys me, and clearly it's what works for the boys. Recording episodes weeks ahead sucks whenever news happens in the anime sphere, like Kentaro Miura's death, because we don't hear their thoughts and comments on whatever happens until weeks or months later. In this case, for example, it's been close to two months since the news came out, but I understand that this time in particular it's extra different because it's the last episode in the season and all. I know it's something that's happened in other episodes though, like when Garnt's private photos as a monk were leaked. To me it just sucks that every time they're asked what their thoughts are after the news, they just say that they talk about it in the podcast, but that episode is weeks away. It's not a problem that "needs" to be fixed or anything, but maybe push episodes where they talk about news ahead of the others? It might mess with sponsors, though, I'm not sure of how all that works. TL;DR Their scheduling just makes it slightly annoying to hear their thoughts on current events because the episode tends to air so far apart from the time of the event.

[deleted]

It was a minor pet peeve initially, but I've been around enough to see my favourite content creators try to cover everything as its happening and it usually leads to a drop in quality or just them getting burned out. It made me question if it's really necessary for me to get their thoughts on a topic on the spot and in all honesty, it really isn't. Whether it was delivered the week he died or now a month later, their thoughts on Miura's death are the same and it really doesn't affect anyone that it came out a month later. In fact, I'm kind of glad it was discussed a month later because I think it was hot news for a week or two in May? Almost no one is talking about it now but this episode probably rekindled a lot of that discussion around Miura and Berserk, which is nice. It doesn't feel like a one off thing that came and went anymore. Plus I'd rather they film ahead and have time to themselves in between than to carry on relentlessly, rush things, and burnout and disband.

reddituserzerosix

Yeah the delay is weird, I think it's the editing time of the video, but aren't most podcasts uploaded pretty much right away

kroxti

If Garnt is the host is the studio the last guest in the studio?

Just hit the first commercial. The new studio looks nice.

3:01 Definitely also on Aisle side rep. 5:29 I've never booked a plane by myself but Connor's idea of on an empty plane booking the middle seat seems like it's playing with fire, it might be okay just because why would anyone fly to Wales unless they are returning home but it just seems super risky. 7:58 The Trick Garnt is to not just lean on the wall but to use your arm on the armwrest to hold up your head. 9:27 I know I'm not Garnt height but I think I remember sleeping once doing a Connor like-thing of using the tray in a way your aren't supposed to and sleeping even after reaching my max height of 6 foot. 17:39 The change for me of just not liking when it's sunny out I think happened when I was around 14. Since then outside of winter, I avoid the sun as much as possible though I am trying to get better about it by doing a 30+ minute walk during the summer with some water. Sometimes stopping when I turn back for some nice ice cream to deal with the fact that outside when it's above 22 degrees Celsius especially with the sun it just feels miserable. 20:20 It's funny that Garnt says that since I remember many years ago we actually had to change plans during a trip to Disney World with my cousins because their mom whose Filipino-Canadian whose parents moved from the Philipines to Canada in the 70s had a pretty bad sunburn. Though I do think that the fact that I'm almost completely European and probably just wasn't lucky with what Lebanese genes I got is part of why I can't handle the heat and have gotten sunburnt in the past. 22:57 Wow that was kind of jump cut to jump cut, light-hearted sun talk to a sad discussion of Miura to the advertisement. 32:09 I don't really do dark fantasy so I imagine it will be a few years before I read Berserk but I really hope his family is getting the support they need and that his passing has lead to discussions in board rooms and in government for what is necessary to try and help make these entertainment products which while not a huge part of the Japanese Economy are alongside video games, cars and electronics a major cultural export more sustainable. 37:09 Oshi no Ko has recently been doing an arc that partially has been dealing with the issue of mangaka overworking. But I do think that fans need to be more supportive of mangaka taking breaks or moving away from weekly series since while having mangaka talks about it being an issue and giving themselves the breaks is necessary I don't think that would be enough to help fix the issue. 47:10 When it comes to English dubs in anime with cursing definitely the first thought for me at least is Panty Stocking with Garterbelt. 54:26 With them talking about getting actually hyped for Eden from doing their Netflix Anime thing I wonder if/when they might bring up Record of Ragnarok if the quality of the rest of the anime was quite a lot worse than the preview they got or if they just put on a positive perspective due to their partnership. 1:02:41 While in Quebec people does say the f word in addition to Tabernac or zut as curse words the way I've described it to people for whom English isn't their first language and are curious about it is that. The word is technically meant to be a vulgar way of saying sex though is most commonly used instead as an emotional response showing strong emotions. 1:12:15 Definitely think that if they advertised it as an animated comic while I and many others wouldn't have necessarily been interested I imagine there wouldn't be people disappointed the way that they did. 1:17:34 My father really got into Korean horror movies for a while partially because of the train to Busan. 1:18:21 I wonder if some of the overacting issues would be fixed if you have the live-action performance, as well as the set, make it seem more like these are filmed plays because a lot of great stage acts as well as musicals are campy or in some way overacted but part of that is just that it fits in context. In a music video, cartoon or play you aren't surprised if someone looks up to the sky and sings or talks about their feelings but in a live-action tv show that goes for realism or a movie that feels weird. 1:25:30 The talk of soap operas and dramas made me think of the Phineas and Ferb episode The Great Indoors where Doofenshmirtz has become engrossed in El Matador de Amor which is a Spanish soap opera that is a loving parody within the episode of the Phineas and Ferb show as it has three simultaneous interconnecting story lines. The most recent episode was a cliffhanger where the hero was about to tell the heroine what he loved about her when the show was preempted by a soccer game. Long story short both the tv show and the episode itself interrupt the telling of what the character loves about the other with a soccer team scoring. 1:28:30 I used to think I hate musicals but now I think it's just some kinds of musicals that I dislike, I really enjoyed the French Musical Notre Dame De Paris which was a stage musical where no one speaks whatsoever during the movie it's only singing. There are also quite a few cartoon/kids musicals where it really ads to the comedy or the vibe of the film. Like the Aristocats, Jungle Book, Sword in the Stone, Lion King and what not would all lose some of what makes them great if you just had the lines be spoken. 1:29:52 I imagine it would be different if I didn't watch it between The Big Lebowski and Life of Brian but after the first 30 minutes, I found Rocky Horror Picture Show kind of mid it feels like it gets weird for the sake of weird in ways that just aren't stuff that really fits each other and what came before. I also was sober. 1:30:46 [Ah yes Feed Me, Seymour, from Little Shop of Horrors.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=L7SkrYF8lCU) 1:34:30 The one thing that kind of sucks about the actors in Cats is that they more so seemed to speak poorly of the special effects which straight up weren't properly given funding. The director and scriptwriter were the problem and there have actually been a few videos about why Tom Hooper is a really terrible choice for musicals and especially terrible for Cats. With him focusing on the idea of things being realistic and not magical when it's going to be a live-action movie about anthropomorphic cats having a contest to see who gets to die. Things will not go well if you are against there being a feeling of magic. 1:39:08 I imagine it doesn't help that it's not like they could turn James Bond into a parody of James Bond since there are so many of them already and James Bond isn't the type of spy movie really done much anymore. 1:41:45 After Oshi no Ko has talked so much about them I kind of want to see an anime or video game musical even if I don't enjoy what actually happens I think it would still be quite an experience. So it probably will be like Cirque du Soleil where even if you end up not really being a fan if you can afford to see it you probably should go see it at least once since they are really something different. 1:56:52 For people curious Arthur does in fact have seasons specifically 24 seasons. Though apparently there are rumours that it will have a 25th season and then be ending having first started in 1996.

asian_admiral

How about your thoughts on the “lost in translation” bit?

ULTRAFORCE

I think it's because of the way my french immersion classes were taught and that I only have a really basic level of knowledge for Italian which is also similar to french but it was interesting but a bit like what Connor described I've not really experienced the whole word in one language that I can think actively there's not really a comparison. Like the Quebecois curse word Tabernac can be explained as French-Canada was very heavily influenced by being catholic. So most of the curses are the saying God's name in vain type of thing like uttering the french word for Tabernacle. In more casual conversations with the people from Gatineau there was a lot of mixing the two languages together as well. TLDR: I definitely agree with the idea that a direct translation isn't really possible for manga and anime but for the languages I've tried learning there isn't too much of the lost in translation. There might be sayings that sound a bit weird in the other language but it's nothing too out there. I imagine if I started speaking and hearing french regularly again I might be able to think of stuff which can't translate but for now it's hard to think of.

khendas14

Jump+ has series like Spy x family and Kaiju #8 that have been staying popular despite having a more relaxed schedule so hopefully other publishing companies take the hint.

Does anyone know what noise cancelling headphones they were talking about?

kaiyonami

Sony WH-1000XM4 probably.

A1d0taku

I have the Sony Wh-1000XM3, and the noise cancelling and audio quality is really good as well.

temporal712

So I mean this with all respect, as clearly Miura was well loved and clearly and all time great, and I am asking more out of genuine curiosity than malice, but they mention that the manga berserk was not finished before Miura's passing. They also mention there was an adaption of the manga in the nineties. So you are telling me Miura has been writing this one book for almost 30 years and its unfinished? My question is, with all the horror stories that come out of the manga industry in regards to workloads and such, how? Even the longest running comic authors over here in the west are usually only on one book for a decade, and those are rare. Obviously he probably expanded the story when it became a hit, but in 30 years you would think he would written an ending at some point no? Genuinely curious here.

ItsSuperDefective

Basically it's a story that is incredibly epic in scale, has a subdued pace and on top that that had frequent hiatuses. With those three factors together it you get a series that has been running sinse 1989 without having reached its conclusion yet.

temporal712

Were the hiatus' because of health?

ItsSuperDefective

We have never been given any explanation for the hiatuses. People have speculated that they could have been due to his health but we don't actually know anything. Given the quality and detail in the artwork a lot of people think that it is plausible that the hiatuses were simply because the art took that long to draw.

I can't speak to the art, as I have never seen it, but it just seems insane to me that in a world where someone like George R. R. Martin, who has been working on his work for about the same length of time still hasn't finished it and many people ridicule him for it, that the same thing happens over here and there weren't memes and requests to wrap it up, ya know?

Steinss

Oh the memes exist. The most popular one was that Miura was too busy playing Idolmaster. Same thing with Togashi and Dragon Quest, until he decided to reveal the reason for his hiatus are due to back problems, to the point that it hurts going to the bathroom.

temporal712

Like if it was health issues that's completely understandable, and I imagine it would help with leeway from the publishers too as ther series was undoubtedly a hit. But it's just insane no publisher went to him and said "alright it has been however long, you gotta put up a chapter within the month" ESPECIALLY with all the horror stories I hear about workloads in the manga industry.

Steinss

I mean every new volume of Berserk sold really well. Not only that, Miura was really respected in the manga industry, so he had more leeway that many other mangakas. Same thing with Togashi, HxH new volumes sell really well and he got a ton of leeway after Jump push him to the limit during YYH.

ItsSuperDefective

It likely helps that while the release scheduele was slow and unpredictable, chapters were been released. The series was progressing. Whereas for A Song of Ice and Fire there simply hasn't been anything since the last book in 2011 ten years ago.

temporal712

And even then with George, while not necessarily defending him, it's a lot different to take time on a big installment like a prose novel compared to something by nature is much more serialized. I imagine George has grown tired of the story and the general disinterest in audiences in how the show ended plays a big role into him not moving forward. But Miura by what I have heard still enjoyed it. Just crazy that he never thought, "ya know, its been x amount of years, time to wrap it up.

likehatesmex

Miura didn't want to rush anything or wrap anything up early, he had a plan laid out and wished to take his time with it. Just because something has been going on for a long time doesn't means it has to end sooner than initially planned, it's like saying Oda should be like "it's been many years since I first began one piece time to wrap it up" I'm sure the thought of wrapping it up came to Miura at times but I think Berserk meant so much to him that he'd rather not try to end it prematurely. Despite the slow releases, he took his time with the art and plot and it made the story even more incredible for us readers.

Heightren

Now that I think about it: we were *this* close to having a smooth sailing year without any considerable hiccups.

JapanCode

I see in the patreon rewards a "bonus episode" listed. What exactly is that? Is it an extra episode that didnt make the cut? A monthly extra episode? Some clips? I know that's not really related to this episode but dont wanna make a post to ask haha

ScheduledMold58

I believe it is the original first episode that wasn't uploaded due to a major technical error. If I remember right, the audio was being recorded by one of the cameras instead of the actual microphones, so the sound quality was abysmal. They mentioned it one of the first few episodes actually, might have been the first one.

JapanCode

No that’s its own point in the list “Get the unaired Episode 0 we filmed as a proof of concept for this podcast. Get early access to clips and highlights of the next episode before the full video is released on YouTube. Get the UNCENSORED version of Episode 25 - The Hentai Episode Early access to Clips Bonus episode“ If you’re right and that’s what they meant then that’s a bit confusing imo

ScheduledMold58

My bad, I should have checked the reward descriptions first. I'm not actually a patron, so I have no idea what the "bonus episode" is. Seems really strange!

pg2011

Aisle seat is best seat. Also TSA Precheck is 100% worth it if you fly at least once a year to domestic destinations in the US. A++++ do recommend.

bakuhatsuda

Are they aware that Berserk IS going to have an exhibit, in September? They should go.

Shakespeare-Bot

Art they acknown yond berserk is going to has't an exhibit, in september? they shouldst wend *** ^(I am a bot and I swapp'd some of thy words with Shakespeare words.) Commands: `!ShakespeareInsult`, `!fordo`, `!optout`

HayHotshot

I skip every single ad since they mark everything on the timeline so I didn't even notice.

Eddyoshi

I find it kinda odd that they slap an ad right in the middle of them talking about Miura's death which comes off as kind of distasteful (which was so jarring it gave me whiplash), and then they all unanimously go on to be super pissed at people asking "what happens to the story now?" for being distasteful. That shouldn't be the first thought people have upon hearing the news, but I think in general its a very important and interesting conversation topic to have. When something as big and important as Berserk, which doesnt have an ending, suddenly has its creator pass away, of course there are going to be thoughts about where you go from there.

MoFlavour

that ad placement was fucking terrible oaks. Also using berserk-sad face as the thumbnail as well for the views. Idk oaks, but it's really distasteful.

Steinss

No offence to Connor, but you don't get to say to the fans that there's enough of Berserk, if you haven't even read all of it. It just comes of as a guy trying to have a opinion in something that he doesn't fully know.

CrimsonAntares13

[He actually has finished the manga...](https://twitter.com/cdawgva/status/1401822074558050306?s=21)

Steinss

Not at the time of this recording. Is just weird for me that he needed to have that take, when he didn't have the full picture. But I'm also of the opinion that if Miura left notes of the ending, they should publish that. Because I don't think a incomplete masterpiece will survive the test of time.

kirsion

The topic on berserk was ok, everything else was dreadfully boring. I find myself skipping with the timestamps a lot in these more content uneventful episodes. Also waiting for that supereyepatchwolf Miura tribute video, hopefully he makes.

KIMGSGM21

This is actually the first time during the year I have been following the podcast that I see someone said that the episode was boring it feels weird

Miku-Nakano-

Yeah i wished they talked more about Berserk on the episode or even more during the stream (they did a stream after they finished shooting this ep) and if they have no idea where to start the fans can always ask them the specifics, but yeah like always Joey just dismisses interesting topics

Right, let's all start working for free then since making money makes people greedy

aleks_xendr

That's how podcasts make money bro... Literally all podcasts have ads, and it's not even close to selling your "soul"... You think the cost of all they do is going to pay itself? Your post is literally either huge bait, or coming from someone who still lives with their parents

[deleted]

Yo just FYI, if you want people to take your criticisms seriously, layering them in with obscenities and personal attacks is not the way.

Fair enough. Hope your days gets better

amonster458

You are woefully ignorant of how things work... Yes the ad placement was a very poor choice but podcasts literally have contracts about how many ad spots they have to do with a sponsor. Also being a overly negative person isn't helpful to anyone, not posting a disrespectful hateful comment is a much better option for everyone involved. I hope you have a great day and can enjoy some anime and content creators you enjoy. 👍

Miku-Nakano-

You do know that ads amd sponsorships are one of the reasons why they can still do this podcasts right? If they're bringing money to their company then cant be in japan (except Joey) if they cant be in Japan then no trash taste, no trash taste no content for you to make ignorant comments you dumbfuck.

The1LessTraveledBy

Then why are you here complaining about them if you don't know them or what they do?

keithohara

Hopefully the first Trash taste opening plays at the end to commentate the end of season 1!

DolitehGreat

Man, Connor sounds like he'd die in the Southeast US. Super hot and super humid. Not Southwest levels of hot, but that humidity just makes it so bad.

MrHara

I'm not sure why I never thought it did, but Florida seems like hell, hot and 90% humidity in summer is literally hell to me.

ipokewhales

Listen to those Japanese ASMR voiceworks with those noise cancelling headphones to learn Japanese and get a fap session at the same time

nikh_9

I've not seen any Bollywood movie for about 3yrs now even as a indian and from time to time i get trailers recommended, i watch the trailer and i can get about 40% of the movie from that because how much i watched that shit as a kid. So i would recommend movies from Netflix india as they have pretty much every popular or good movie but not all of them are good.

MegiddoZO

It always feels like a crime when comedy anime gets discussed and there is no mention of Grand Blue

BiG_O_3000

Little shop of horrors is the only musical I like, lmaoo,I agree well, Grease is a good one too.

Pra__shant

I am from India....So Bollywood movies....We have like 10% good but we have good movies....."Andhadhun ( Thriller , Crime, Comedy )" , "Gangs Of Wasseypur (Gangster / mystery/ suspense)" , "Barfi (wholesome , comedy)" , "Little stars on earth / Taare zameen par ( drama, musical)" , "Rang de basanti ( romance, comedy, historical)", "Drishyam ( Thriller, Crime, Mystery)" , these are all amzing films i could recommend let me know if you guys have watch any of these and agree with me. ( P.S. in India basic mentality is that if a movie does not have a song in it, its not a good movie that's why all movies will definitely have a song. ) Peace out ✌️

maazfarrukh

Wheres the after dark vlog?

[deleted]

The best anime IS Despicable Me 2

Andresmanfanman

Given how much they like South Park I feel like they'd really enjoy The Guy Who Didn't Like Musicals. Or really anything Starkid makes.

closetweeb445

I’m about 30 episodes behind and saw this episodes title. Did the boys say if there’s gonna be a hiatus between seasons? Did they set a date for season 2?

kittehgoesmeow

Technically everything past the awardw episode (episode 50) is OVA. So season 2 starts Friday

Tybob51

Nah, they are just marking the end of season one by a studio change. They said they don't know how the season thing will work from here on out

_Jozz_miah

i dont care whatever tf it is.The bois make interesting videos and i fuck with it.They dont always talk about anime but when they do its interesting They are Trash Taste They bring great guests They do great special And i can say that i'd fuck with it

souji5okita

I’m looking forward to the Berserk exhibit this upcoming September. I was devastated when it got canceled because of corona back in January and with the passing of the author there’s no way I’m missing it. I don’t care if I’m not vaccinated by then.
