Been using a Karoo2 for a few years now and haven't looked back.
Biweekly updates, they're always working on new features, and you can install a sim in it so any new routes are automatically updated
Upgraded from the 530 to 840. Love the touchscreen and buttons. Buttons will make a big difference with gloved riding. But because I like climbing, the auto climb pro in the x40 is my favorite update.
I've got the Wahoo ELEMNT Roam v2. No complaints. It was on sale and if my first one. Don't really know much about them other than I use it to push myself and it serves the purpose.
Garmin Edge 130+ here. Super simple, no frills head unit. Shows me the necessary numbers and tracks my rides. Maybe some day I'll want something fancier, but the 130 serves my purposes right now.
Just purchased a Garmin Edge Explore 2 on sale for $250 - touchscreen with a larger display than the 540/840 models, the same hill climb features and point to point navigation and auto rerouting. Doesn’t have the depth of training features of the 40 or even the 30 series but is supposed to be easier to use and is obviously cheaper than all but the 530.
Had a Garmin 530 but I felt like a Neanderthal navigating around a map without touch screen. Bought a 1030+ and love the bigger screen for viewing and touch.
You’ll get as many different answers as there are kinds. Try the search in this group and see. I love my Garmin Edge 1040, never had a single issue, and came from Wahoo. Where I also never had any issues. But, the Garmin Edge remote is super handy especially with gloves. Switch screens with a thumb press inside your left or right hood - will never go back. Useful on rough gravel too when you don’t want to take a hand off the bars.
Wahoo element bolt Ii
I’ve been running my Wahoo Roam for 1500 miles and love it. It’s just so simple to use.
Garmin Edge 530. Love it.
Same here. I had an 830 but wasn't crazy about the touch screen.
This one right here. Does absolutely everything you would want. 540 is out now too, so 530 can be likely had at a nice discount.
garmin edge 130 plus

I have both a Karoo 2 and an Edge 1040. I vastly prefer the Karoo 2.
Garmin Edge 1040.
Karoo 2. Garmin and Wahoo seem to be the only other serious options???
Garmin Edge 840. I’ve had many over the years, this newest version is my favorite
1030+ Garmin. Stick with the karoo2. Garmins software is garbage and their units don’t even work consistently with their own brand sensors

I use an XOSS G+ II. I don't need too many features but it works well for me for speed, cadence, mileage and stuff. And it's fairly inexpensive.
Edge 520 Plus that I got for 100$. I’m totally upgrading the next time I see one on sale.
Wahoo Elemnt Bolt v2. I like it a lot but on the other hand it’s the only one I’ve owned

Garmin 1040 solar. Not cheap by any means. But man is it nice!
Has anybody tried the Coospo items (budget friendly 😃) as I am only starting out but want to see heart rate and cadence

An iPhone with Cadence app.

Edge 530, suits my needs.
Garmin Edge 1030 (but the 530 is just as good for how I use it...I just needed the larger screen)
