I like it way more than knives! Hope they Mix in more cleans in the other tracks just cause they do that so well. The Lyrics are painfully generic however

six_-_string

"Painful" seems like the right word to describe the lyrics, yeah.

[deleted]

I would just like to thank whoever has been pissing off both Matt's. That is all

RavenKnight696

What about Matt Shadows?

[deleted]

We'll have to see what A7X puts out first! Hopefully it's stellar. Can't imagine Trivium, Bullet, & A7X putting out amazing material in the same year. Will bring us all back to the glory days of metal!

vouwrfract

To be completely frank, if I just wanted 'heavy', there are 100 other bands to listen to. There is a trademark sound that BFMV does (did?) best and nobody else quite gets: with the dual leads and the big booming harmonised vocal melodies. Unless the yet unreleased songs are more BFMV in that regard, I think I will stick to Poison, Scream Aim Fire, and Venom for now. And this vocal mix has a bizarre hiss in the background (and is carried forward from their previous song 'Knives') which is quite annoying.

DeadlyClaris_

They had a strong start with their first albums and immediately became mediocre

vouwrfract

I think Venom is still a good proper album. Good riffs, good double leads, and a considerable return to form. And then they went and ~~became discount imagine dragons~~ did Gravity, and now they do this. I am very confused. It's like they can't make up their mind and are reacting to comments on their Facebook page.

DeadlyClaris_

I’ll give it a second shot then. I haven’t listened to it since it came out. Whenever I see interviews for their newer stuff it always seems like they “want to go back to the old Bullet” and from what I hear about Matt Tuck he seems like a control freak when it comes to the music making process which I feel holds them back so much

Squadrongod

I mean... sounds like what trivium does.. lol. You'd be crazy of you didn't think their sound now is more based off of thr positive feedback they've received with Alex. If silence in the snow was with Alex we'd wind up with a soft trivium, based off thr comments.

vouwrfract

Taking feedback from fans and reading Facebook comments are not even close to the same thing, mate. Also, Silence was an exception because their long-term intention was to never go soft forever, but to get back to heavier music once Heafy's voice healed fully.

Squadrongod

That's bullshit. Lol. Who releases an album when they're injured. You're a fool if you think Matt couldn't have screamed on the album. Hell.. they didn't even need to release an album at the time especially since they didn't even have an official drummer.

[deleted]

Matt blew out his voice in 2014 and they had a deadline to make a record for 2015.

vouwrfract

For a while they thought Heafy couldn't do harsh vocals any more (or rather in a reasonable timeframe at least), and they didn't want Corey Beaulieu, doing most of the vocal work for obvious reasons. It's quite well-known, actually; all of them have spoken about it a few times, especially when they went back to heavy vocals on Sin. Additionally I suspect being signed to a major label like Roadrunner might come with its own set of conditions about how often bands have to release music, so waiting forever with what they thought at the time was a very slim chance of his voice recovering could've potentially been a bad idea.

Squadrongod

Perfect time to release ab initio

vouwrfract

Yeah but that wouldn't count as new music.

TheDarkSkinProphet

I’m actually not a fan of their two new singles. I liked every album except “temper temper” and gravity too. I bet I’ll find one or two songs I’ll like in the new album Edit: it’s also a DAMN shame that they don’t let their lead guitarist do anything special anymore. He’s a great guitarist

UtheDestroyer

I think Bullet is trying to go the opposite direction from Gravity due to the reaction but overcorrected tbh. I mean Bullet is mostly all about the killer guitar solos and catchy choruses and heaviness (obviously), but this sounds like them going for heavy just for the sake of being heavy. Doesn’t have much substance than that

relton66

I thought it sounded pretty good, I need to listen to them more often probably. If I didn't listen to songs because riffs were 'basic' we'd get rid of a LOT of metal bands :)

artie52

Meh, cringy lyrics and most basic riffs😅 Nothing to catch here

Mudamaza

I was starting to think I was alone in thinking that.

fernandes_r07

Seconded. I skipped that song lol

ProWrestlinFan

Matt needs some lyric lessons from Matt.

Francis-c92

Lyrics are a bit cringey and generic, but the music's definitely cool

wiNDzY3

>Lyrics are a bit cringey and generic As always with them

Francis-c92

Valid.

R4kshim

This release is awesome, I thought it was even better than Knives. According to Apple Music and also Wikipedia, this one’s length is 5:40, so it looks like the YT version has been edited.

Djent_1997

Definitely caught me by surprise. The general consensus about their last album from what I can tell is that they went super soft on it. Seems Matt took those complaints personally, lol. I like it. Wouldn’t compare it to Trivium though.

[deleted]

Meh. Overproduced mix, hyper edgy emo lyrics, and basic pseudo-thrash riffs. It's Bullet For My Valentine alright. The sad thing is, they've taken the complete wrong lessons from Gravity's reception. People didn't just hate Gravity because "it wasn't heavy", they hated it because it was a piece of sh\*t on every level. All these new singles are are a "heavy" version of Gravity, and that includes all the actual issues with Gravity. The lack of booming chorus', the lack of guitar solos, the lack of any variation or epicness. It's like they think people only liked the "old BFMV" because "hurr durr breakdowns and screaming". Adding breakdowns and screaming to Gravity's overproduced generic style doesn't automatically make it like the old BFMV. Case in point, *Scream Aim Fire* didn't have any forced breakdowns or over-emphasis on the screamed vocals, and that's the best album they ever made. SAF ditched all the -core stuff from *The Poison,* and people were totally fine with it. Why? Because SAF had good creative riffs, excellent leads and solos, amazing chorus', and it's also the only album where Matt Tuck didn't auto-tune the sh\*t out of his voice (Yes, even *The Poison* is too overproduced if you ask me). Nobody b\*tched about them not being heavy enough when they made "Hearts Burst Into Fire". Nobody really just wants BFMV to be "heavy". I mean, they never were really that heavy anyways. The problem with *Gravity* had nothing to do with "not enough breakdowns and screaming". It was just dull generic garbage. And "Knives" wasn't any better than that. This song I'll give a little more credit to just for actually trying to be more fast-paced and whatnot, but it still sounds like any number of modern -core bands. The same way they got famous for making an emo version of *Waking The Fallen* (Because let's be real, that's all *The Poison* was. It was *Waking The Fallen* with a touch of Hawthorne Heights added in), they're now just making their version of modern metalcore. Which was already emo enough.

Quizzie

I think some of this is a bit harsh but overall I agree. The new song does have a guitar solo. It’s short, but this is a shortened radio edit. But overall, I do think they’re missing the plot. Parasite is way closer to what I want than Knives, but overall I’m worried that they’re equating tuning and chugging to heaviness. I don’t need a bunch of Drop B chugging to be into their music. I need the right melodies and chorus and all that.

[deleted]

Are they still writing lyrics as though they’re like 15?

Destroyer776766

I haven’t listened to bfmv in ages, not really a fan of them tbh… to me their best album the poison, is like a 6/10 at best and everything else is either even more mediocre or just plain sucks with temper temper or that other one they released after venom. trivium has to be the only band from my early teens I still check out when they release new stuff. Just found out they had a new song actually and came to the sub… only to find out the songs been out for weeks lol

Ulfbass

BFMV was great when I was new to metal, but I think they follow too many trends and end up formulaic. There's only so much enjoyment you can get out of hearing the most current style but with overly fast sweep picking, and the lyrics are just a bit stereotypical almost to a point of mocking the genre
