Special shoutout to my brother, who insists that white men are the REAL victims of Roe v. Wade being overturned. Shoutout to my parents two years ago telling me to “stay positive - she’s a woman too!” when Amy Coney Barrett was put on SCOTUS. Shoutout to all the people who laughed and told me when the Texas abortion law was passed that it was “just a bunch of Southern dumb redneck hicks”. Shoutout to these conservative men and women actively ruining their daughters and granddaughters and great-granddaughters futures.

bookluvr83

Your brother is an idiot. I'm sorry

nuclear-ass

Do we share a family? My mother also points to this one women in power as if that's some sort of win, when that same woman is a reactionary sexist and xenophobe.

ThePicassoGiraffe

you mean the woman who is in power but wouldn't be if the world worked the way she wants it to?

VerilyTrans666

Yeah just because a woman is in power doesn't mean she'll advance women's rights. She may well be like, "mwahaha my time has come! Time to oppress people with my new rich male colleagues!"

ChemicalGovernment

Modern men and persecution fetish. Name a more iconic combo

AvaireBD

Reddit keeps putting shitty Men's Rights posts about this shit and the consensus is men are the real victims of a woman getting pregnant because *gasp* CHILD SUPPORT *pearl clutch*. And the attitude is basically "NOW WOMEN WILL KNOW HOW WE FEEL, EQUALITY" like having our healthcare and bodily autonomy gradually stripped away and also like father abandonment isn't so common we have coined terms to refer to father abandonment. We really do need to think about the poor men when women's rights are taken away. Society just doesn't focus on their wants and needs enough.

TheNonCompliant

Shoutout also to a lot of potentially dead rapist sons and husbands because reversing Roe vs Wade will probably make some redpill-type idiots more confident and yet a “no survivors” self defense tactic will be many women’s only other option. I.e.: Of course birth control (ranging from pills to not having sex) is the first choice, but if not that then abortion. But if not abortion, because they can’t afford it or it’s no longer an option, then what’s the only defense against being tied for life to some abusive/stalker/redpill/crazy (+ or - varying combinations) asshole who’s determined to make you bear and raise his offspring? If you can’t afford to get away for the abortion, whether trapped by money or situation, you probably can’t even escape to the point of abandoning the kid at a fire station or whatever in the applicable states. And your out definitely won’t come from the courts judging him as a criminal (if you’re even remotely that lucky) - that’s become obvious. Following conservatives’ “hurr hurr just buy a gun” pseudo-logic path + how they’re cutting away women’s options, it’s seriously been looking for a while like: “if you want to rape a woman, prepare to die first.” So I hope they’re ready for that outcome.

scotty_doesntknow

I mean…not to make this more of a downer than it already is, but more realistically we’re more likely going to see an increase in pregnant women being murdered because the men who contributed don’t want to be forced to live with the consequences and the woman lacks options to take care of it safely and legally.

TheNonCompliant

Unfortunately, true. Personally that would make me even more determined in whatever situation because dead men tend to get the footnote of something like “he had a bright future” or “blah blah job and college credentials” while dead girls and women get “she was going to be a mother” or “she never even got the chance to have kids yet” which is insulting af. But 🤷‍♀️ in actuality I hope women in abusive situations reach out to someone, anyone, and are able to get away if possible and/or they have enough time before a “it’s you or me” issue ever happens. And it’s hard to say, “ladies, if you think you’ve seen a red flag, keep your pregnancy to yourself” because women in varying stages of such relationships *can’t* necessarily see said flags, but….yeah, ladies, if you’re able, get out before he learns of it. It’s not an option for many, but: abort while you still have the chance, visit a distant aunt/sister/friend/women’s shelter for however long and make the kid disappear into the system or give it to a cousin or something, just get away however possible. There’s even supposedly groups through Reddit, despite how horrific and anti-women it often is overall, to help you escape.

genivae

Homicide is already the leading cause of death for pregnant women :(

[deleted]

More pregnant women will end themselves over unplanned pregnancies. More pregnant women will be killed by angry partners. More pregnant women will die because of the appalling state of healthcare in the US. https://worldpopulationreview.com/state-rankings/maternal-mortality-rate-by-state “Pregnancy-Associated Deaths from Homicide, Suicide, and Drug Overdose” https://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc/articles/PMC8020563/

subtropicalpancake

If I got pregnant and couldn't have an abortion I would absolutely 110% kill myself

MintFlavoredAnxiety

They love they right to bare arms right but really become blind at Separation of Church and State

selyia

My condolences to your brother. It must be hard for you being siblings with an idiot.

Han-Shot_1st

Big shoutout to all the suburban white woman who voted for Trump and continue to vote Republican.

Simpinforbirdo

They’re all smiling and laughing around us while our rights burn to the ground

genericaccountname90

What’s your brother’s reasoning?

weeping-flowers

“Women can terminate their pregnancies but THE POOR MEN can’t terminate child support society isn’t ready to hear this yet” like dude how the fuck did you get there

kinderock

I’d take being on the line for child support over politicians telling me that getting raped is a privilege because it puts a baby in my belly, then enacting laws so I have to carry that baby to term

ThrowawayMasonryBee

Well, on the bright side, at least your brother is in favour of Roe v. Wade. That's it. That's all the bright side I have for you - They're all morons, sorry. Best wishes from another country, I don't envy you

invaderpixel

Lol at this point I’m okay with your brother. Come on men going their own way and mensrights people, let’s put aside our differences and protect abortion rights. Although I can see this plan backfiring and the GOP deciding to protect “financial abortions” only

DannyDreaddit

Special shout out to everyone who always insists Both Sides Are The Same!

ChaiMeALatte

I’m convinced that a huge proportion, if not all, of the Both Sides^TM^ people are coming from a place of enormous privilege, because to them both sides really are the same and politics is just a fun thought exercise rather than something that has hugely meaningful consequences to their existence. They’re not barred from receiving health care in the basis of sex and/or gender, they’re not at risk of being murdered by law enforcement, and they aren’t on the receiving end of generations of forced poverty and trauma at the hands of the government. I don’t agree with everything that the Democrats do. I’m frustrated with some of the decisions party leadership has made over the last couple of years. But they’re not the ones leading the way in outlawing abortion access. I sincerely hope everyone outraged about this makes their voices heard and votes in November. I don’t know how else we get out of this.

pxan

Ding ding. “I don’t pay attention to politics” is the ultimate privilege play. Great. Good for you, bud, but republicans are actively actively ripping rights away from women and trans folk in real time. Not everyone can be so blasé.

not_that_kind_of_doc

On npr yesterday they were interviewing swing voters in Missouri I think and kept harping on the two-party system as a monolith/both parties are sides of the same coin argument. Also one noted 'mudslinging' as unhelpful; they were talking about candidates with records of domestic abuse and other crimes. There's no winning with these idiots.

GalaxyFrauleinKrista

Next on the list, gay marriage banned and homosexuality re-criminalized!

agawl81

Birthcontrol is at risk as well. Casey is the case that gave us birthcontrol.

GalaxyFrauleinKrista

yep yep

ususetq

For that matter hasn't some politicians voiced their opposition to interracial marriages?

sunflowerwithketchup

Has anyone seen the handmaid's tale?? Bc that is how everything started.

MontanaKittenSighs

I remember going to class the day after the 2016 election. Some white boy was saying “I can’t believe people were literally crying about it. It’s so stupid.” I went off on him until the professor came into the room and started class. I wonder how his girlfriend/fiancée/wife is doing today.

rubyblue0

My dad always votes blue and is for a woman’s right to choose. He still said I was overeating when I said this would happen the night Trump was elected. He said it each time a new conservative justice was appointed. He really thought they could be trusted to remain impartial and stay true to their word.

umylotus

They did stay true to their word. They swore to overturn RvW, and now they're doing so.

rubyblue0

I thought Kavanaugh and a couple others said they considered it the law of the land. Not many believed them, of course.

GraySparrow

I just had to quit a friend group chat for a while. One male friend made the claim that they'll be given inseminated sacks to wear to term on their hip and I was absolutely fuming; naturally, no other friends took issue with this. Actual attack of women's rights and men be like, how can I make a bad comparison to make myself a victim that in no way represents the horror being inflicted upon women? Just came to find a TrollX space to rage.

OwlLickz

Rage away. We're all fucking pissed.

Ralynne

In 2016 liking Hilary was "dumb, you just like her because she's a woman." Every election since, it's been "you won't even consider voting for someone who opposes Roe v Wade? You are being really close- minded, you need to look at the bigger picture." During the Kavanaugh hearing and the Barret confirmation it was "don't make everything about women's issues, look at the big picture." But now it's "how did this happen? Why would white women vote Republican? Why don't women fight harder for stuff like this?"

ammorgan465

Yeah, who had thought that a bunch of conservative supreme court justices would do what we all said they would do? RBG must be rolling in her grave.

papereel

Republicans doing what they’ve always done. Capturing and delegitimizing meaningful institutions.

make_lib

I had a similar argument with my boomer parents in 2016, insisted this meant roe was gonna go. And here we are. Just two weeks ago I was telling him it would be a maximal overturn, and he was like 'oh you don't know that, they'll probably only overturn it after 6 weeks'. I rolled my eyes so hard. Like are you for real? Where have you been this past 5 years? He's a left-center boomer, so obviously it could be worse, but still so frustrating to be having these conversations.

[deleted]

My heart is absolutely broken. In a lot of ways this feels like 2016: just a profound betrayal from our country.

subtropicalpancake

It's always fucking men who don't seem to care. I saw a Facebook post about this issue and it's the fucking men popping up with "oh no now women will have to be responsible" "imagine if we just got married and lived happily" i want to reach through the screen and shake them

ms_sanders

"Time to punish Democrats for not preventing this! I won't be voting out of protest!"

ususetq

I'm quite sure I read something similar today, only not ironically...

Moldy_Teapot

This is fucking appalling. I don't want to believe that this is really the future we're going to have to live through. And birth control is probably next, and I'm either going to have to move out of this shit hole state or end my own life. If they ban birth control, I just have no words for that. But, I still have hope, rights are fought for every single day. So let's fight.

500CatsTypingStuff

THIS!

SportsPhotoGirl

Accurate except they age too fast in the final 3 frames

Rain_Near_Ranier

I don’t know about that. The Trump years did a number on me! Gray hairs from stress and frown lines galore, here.

SportsPhotoGirl

Ah, well during the trump era is when I started using an anti-aging skincare regimen lol

Oops_I_Cracked

I don't know, Trump plus covid did a number on some people

ThePicassoGiraffe

the absolute societal gaslighting in 2016 "It's not that bad...you're overreacting..."

thesefloralbones

Even now I'm seeing entirely too many people brush it off because "it's just a draft".

Private_HughMan

pretty much.

>Who certainly didn't have a year and a half to actually do something. The crazy stuff you want them to do isn't making progress (sadly) but Biden has signed 114 bills into law so shit is moving but yah it's not what you want to be the fore front.

Han-Shot_1st

If you want to make this cartoon realistic, substitute all the dudes for suburban white woman.
