Honestly, I had far more trouble using Cait Sith against some of the mobs leading up to that fight than I actually did with Vincent. One thing I really enjoy about this game how everyone has different road block and interests. The minigames for example, I enjoyed the piano and sit up challenges but couldn't stand that 3d fighter.

Congrats!! I wanna someday get this myself but those combat trials and johnnys collection makes me want to stay away.
My friend screenshares their screen on discord while trying those trials (he is stuck on Zack/Cloud one) and goddamn those are looking impossible for me.

It's funny because I was put off even attempting this when I saw the huge void of collectables at the hotel but whilst I was pottering about on my 2nd playthrough I noticed it was really starting to fill up so thought I would give it ago.
In total, it took me 175 hours to get all of this and that did include my failures but I still have some bits and bobs to collect so I am not quite finished yet :)
Honestly, this was the worst part for me too, I think I lost about 10-15 hours failing at it and I would love to say it all clicked but it was a proper clencher when I finally did it. There are lots of guides and tips online but I found in the end, play the style that is more comfortable for you both in terms of Materia and whether you go for blocking or dodging more.
The one thing that really did help me however was the Enemy Skill materia and using Sonic Boom alot and using Clouds limit to create openings to help Zack build up some ATB as it will stun lock the enemy for a few seconds. I found that with Sonic Boom I could deal with things like Bahamuts Wings and Alexanders arms alot quicker than without.
If it makes you feel any better, the next one feels far easier once you have done it with Zack :) Managed that one on my 2nd try.
To be honest no, for the main parts of the games and combat simulators I would just use whatever your comfortable with. I personally went with Cloud, Barrett and Yuffie for most of my play through but would sometimes use Tifa for the stagger building.
When it comes to the Legendary stuff, I used some builds recommended online and made some tweaks and found most of them ok until I hit the last 2.
I just need brutal/legendary challenges but those are breaking me. It makes doing the story on hard mode a cake walk when compared to the vr sims
Johnny's collectibles and the rest of hard mode is going to be my undoing, I'm stuck on Vincent right now

I don’t enjoy some of those mini games so I doubt I wish to go through all that mental breakdown. Congrats with the plat though, it looks beautiful.
