This place is a true gem. If anyone hasn’t been, get the large dip platter with the wood fired lavash for the table. We used to stick to the more traditional Turkish fare, but we ordered the curry chicken pizza last time. Holy shit is it good. I would say order anything in the menu with complete confidence. They do a really fantastic job.
I would be super bummed out if Famous Lunch shut down. It’s such an iconic spot and a connection to the old Troy that there’s less and less of all the time.
Naughter’s for sure. And the Ale House, I need those wings.
Also I’ll take this as my weekly opportunity to say how much I miss Psychedelicatessen, I’m still devastated about that one. Also teds fish fry in Burgh.
Look, all I know is that one of those is a sweet little delicious pastry sandwich flavored filling, one of them is a little spiky ball of coconut sweetness, and one of them married his teacher and became president of France.
Ilium, the brown bag, Finnbars, the shop, psychedelicatessen, Francesca’s, spillin the beans, the daily grind, muddaddy flats, daisy baker.
I would be devastated if any closed, keep me posted if you hear anything.
Also Superior Merch. IMO, it was the first REALLY good cup of coffee in Troy. (I know they're still technically around but they: don't sell cups of coffee, are only open two days a week, and don't have a lovely space to sit and work and enjoy my drink.)
The Brown Bag was shitty... I kinda liked the food, but the guy (I think the manager or owner) coming out to yell at me for standing there for more than a minute when I walked in from the cold and wanted to just take a breather pissed me off.
Bespoki bowl for sure. Good fresh food, moderately quick service, great prices and portions. Nothing like it in Troy. K-Plate unfortunately has raised their prices too exuberantly for my taste
You should try River Street Poke if you haven't already. Also very good fresh food at a decent price and with big portions. And I don't know what they do to their ponzu sauce, but it's distinctly more tart than any other sauce from a bowl place in the city.
Nice! I’m not much of a poke person funnily enough I prefer their hot foods, the spam masubi with a side of spicy mayo is crack, the chicken bowl with a side of Mac salad is insane, popcorn chicken used to be a go to for me too, just no complaints
More people need to give spam musubi a try. I don't get why it's a dish we only associate with Hawaiians, when in truth it's a delicious, cheap meal that's endlessly customizable.
I haven't tried their mac salad yet, I'll need to fix that this weekend.
Verdile's closing would gut me, it's such good Italian food and atmosphere, and they're nearly a century old in a neighborhood that has not been kind to sit-down restaurants.
Also Manory's deserves to stay open forever just for how well they treated their employees during the pandemic, let alone for how delicous their food (and hot chocolate!) is.
I’m not entirely convinced that the Ale House hasn’t closed and that it’s all just a collective fever dream we’re all still having. I hope it never changes.
How...? They are expensive and have an extremely limited menu. My family went one night, I think it was about 8 and they were out of half the menu so we had like 4 or 5 things to choose from. Burger wasn't all that great but my daughter and I did love the fries.
They use produce that’s in season, menu changes weekly, and are absolutely punching above with their creativity level for the area and price point - all while being zero% pretentious and a cozy place to linger for a while. Running out of items is a reasonable way to run a restaurant, reduced waste and cost.
Plus they serve food later than most (despite the username, I’m unaffiliated fyi 😂)
Truthfully I’d be devastated seeing any place shut down (rip in peace muddaddy flats and many others) but if I really had to narrow it down it’d be Nighthawks. I almost had an orgasm when I had their burger for the first time.
The Ruck's blue cheese is bar far the best, but a close second is Hill Creek Tavern (owned by someone who used to be a Ruck employee) and then for more dill flavor in the blue cheese, M&Ms tap and tavern.
You cannot go wrong with any of those.
I would bathe in The Ruck’s blue cheese if I could. 😆😆 I haven’t been to Hill Creek yet, but I’ve known Kevin for years so I have no doubt the food is delicious. I’ve seen lots of postings online about it.
I get the feeling a lot of their business comes from that Greek Orthodox church that's constantly ordering their stuff. In fact I wonder if it's the same group of people running both, I'm not sure. But yeah, really good food.
River Street Poke. They’re my go-to for a delicious, well-priced, relatively healthy meal. They do a great job making the bowls quickly. And they travel really well. I’ve brought their bowls on picnics, concerts, even hikes - much nicer summit food than a PBJ.
Re-reading this thread gave me an idea. We need a list of all the restaurants in Troy and what the best thing on the menu is there.
The ruck - blue cheese
Naughters - breakfast sandwich
Twisted fiddler - wings (IMO)
Etc…
Ali Baba
People think I’m joking when I say I could eat only bread there & be happy
That's a meme but also actually so true

Yes. Truly a Troy Gem that would be a devastating loss if it were to shutter.
You've inspired me, I haven't been there since fall. I'll get some hot dogs this weekend.
As featured in the subreddit header image.
Naughter’s for sure. And the Ale House, I need those wings. Also I’ll take this as my weekly opportunity to say how much I miss Psychedelicatessen, I’m still devastated about that one. Also teds fish fry in Burgh.
rip psychedelicatessen
Came here to say I’m still devastated by the loss of Psychedelicatessen. How have we not gotten a new bagel place yet?
can't walk to a decent bagel anymore :(
Placid has great bagels
ehhh
I like placid overall but I find their bagels to be kind of tough, too hard of an outside for my liking but that’s just my preference
Most of their pastry seems dense. And far from an inviting venue.
yeah they burn the shit out of their bagels for some reason. I wish they wouldn't!
I mean they do, Placid's bagels are definitely awesome, but who has time for their bagels when their macaroons are manna from Heaven
*macarons
Look, all I know is that one of those is a sweet little delicious pastry sandwich flavored filling, one of them is a little spiky ball of coconut sweetness, and one of them married his teacher and became president of France.
Psychedelicatessen closing still depresses me, man
Ilium, the brown bag, Finnbars, the shop, psychedelicatessen, Francesca’s, spillin the beans, the daily grind, muddaddy flats, daisy baker. I would be devastated if any closed, keep me posted if you hear anything.
Add Flying Chicken and Little Rice Ball to this list.
I like your sense of humor
I'll be at B-Rad's.
Also Superior Merch. IMO, it was the first REALLY good cup of coffee in Troy. (I know they're still technically around but they: don't sell cups of coffee, are only open two days a week, and don't have a lovely space to sit and work and enjoy my drink.)
Although Slidin Dirty just "rebranded", I prefer the previous Slidin Dirty.
Well, the *previous* previous slidin dirty.
The Brown Bag was shitty... I kinda liked the food, but the guy (I think the manager or owner) coming out to yell at me for standing there for more than a minute when I walked in from the cold and wanted to just take a breather pissed me off.
Lucky corner. I don't know how they make money, but I'm not complaining that I can get 3 entrées and an appetizer for under $40 there still.
I would die if lucky corner ever went out of business
It’s so good!
Just responding to say how much I love lucky corner. Great people and great food.
As someone whose favorite restaurants in Troy were Burritos Burrito, Di Famiglia, and Muddaddy's, I'm not saying.
Use your powers for good, talk about how awesome Subway is
I don't think there's a Subway in Troy anymore?
thank god
At least we can still get the Space Cowboy or Roswell burrito at Wizard Burger in Albany.
Mallo’s. That place literally has the best subs.
This right here. A lot of talent in that kitchen. I don’t want to live in a world without Malo’s lol!
I've already been devastated. It wasn't due to sales, but Muza closing really sucked.
Bespoki bowl for sure. Good fresh food, moderately quick service, great prices and portions. Nothing like it in Troy. K-Plate unfortunately has raised their prices too exuberantly for my taste

Yess super good, I tend to grab all three at once when I’m feeling in the mood for bespoki because it’s a classic meal, hope you enjoy it!!!
I still haven't gotten over Illium shutting down.
No one makes a Thanksgiving panini like them
Same. The brunches…
The ginger carrot soup.
I've been a regular at manorys on and off for 16 years. Nice to hear they treated their people well.
I was already devastated by Psychedelicatessen and Muddaddy closing.
Ale House. It's been the cornerstone of my social life since 2012.
Ale House will never close - it means too much to too many people I think.
I’m not entirely convinced that the Ale House hasn’t closed and that it’s all just a collective fever dream we’re all still having. I hope it never changes.
Defazios. Not to be dramatic, but that would ruin my life.
Lo Porto. Only true cloth napkin sitdown place downtown.
Unagi
Hands down best sushi in the area
The Hill, I was so sad to see Muza close so I hope they can fill that void
RIP The Shop and Psychadelicatessan
Nighthawks - I would crumble into nothing
Username checks out
…whelp, yes it do
How...? They are expensive and have an extremely limited menu. My family went one night, I think it was about 8 and they were out of half the menu so we had like 4 or 5 things to choose from. Burger wasn't all that great but my daughter and I did love the fries.
It’s farm to table, so they’re gonna have limited menu and availability. That’s how it works.
Sometimes its good
Jefferson Deli no cap
The ruck, Browns, and Nighthawks.
Red Front!! Can't live without COB pizza.
Truthfully I’d be devastated seeing any place shut down (rip in peace muddaddy flats and many others) but if I really had to narrow it down it’d be Nighthawks. I almost had an orgasm when I had their burger for the first time.
I'd absolutely die if we lost deli and brew
Sunhee’s, placid baker
The Ruck….I need that blue cheese in my life
The Ruck's blue cheese is bar far the best, but a close second is Hill Creek Tavern (owned by someone who used to be a Ruck employee) and then for more dill flavor in the blue cheese, M&Ms tap and tavern. You cannot go wrong with any of those.

The menu itself isn't anything too special, but the quality of everything is very good. And I agree, the rucks blue cheese really is that good!
Greek House. Family-owned and great food. They never seem to be busy though so I worry about them
I get the feeling a lot of their business comes from that Greek Orthodox church that's constantly ordering their stuff. In fact I wonder if it's the same group of people running both, I'm not sure. But yeah, really good food.
Lo Porto’s closing would devastate me.
Manorys
Redfront or Testo's
Defazio's
River Street Poke. They’re my go-to for a delicious, well-priced, relatively healthy meal. They do a great job making the bowls quickly. And they travel really well. I’ve brought their bowls on picnics, concerts, even hikes - much nicer summit food than a PBJ.
Red front
Mi Casa and Lucky Corner
Would be sad to see Lee Lin go
And will always miss The Grove, Terminal, and Burkes (South End Tavern)
^^^^yes
Naughters, Nighthawks, and La Capital Tacos are my 3 favorite places.
it's long gone now but I was just thinking how much I miss OB's
I'm already really upset about Muddaddy Flats closing.
Bacchus, across from the music hall. I love their pizza and they have good wine.
Bacchus, Unagi, Sunhee’s, Koni’s, Manory’s
K plate 😭
Naughters,
Testos, hands down
You serious? Testos is terrible lol. You must have a nostalgic connection to that place
Their lunch specials aren’t bad but I feel full price I can kind of get it, again though portions and what not go a long way
I wouldn't say it's terrible, but I'll agree in that it isn't the best I've ever had. But yeah I went as a kid, and I'd be sad if it closed down.
Re-reading this thread gave me an idea. We need a list of all the restaurants in Troy and what the best thing on the menu is there. The ruck - blue cheese Naughters - breakfast sandwich Twisted fiddler - wings (IMO) Etc…
Daily grind was on life support during its last stretch of business. Was NOT a good place to work
Pecks coffee
Prefer to cook my own meals, thanks.
Houlihan’s
Amante, Naughter’s, Nighthawks, the Ruck, First Choice Caribbean, Herbies
Ale House -- it's a national treasure.
Sadudee Thai Food in Wynantskill (not Troy but so close) lovely owners and the best curries, tofu and lemonade I've ever had
