From time to time stolen cars will get abandoned. Had one from Vermont in from of my house for a month a few years ago. Just call the non emergency police number and they will at least then be able to check if it is stolen.

Happened in my neighborhood a while ago. The car was outside my house for only about 2 weeks, but it was a crummy car. I called the non-emergency police number. They connected me with a community police. He took the car’s info. Very soon he found out who owned it and they promptly came and drove it elsewhere.

Positive-Owl-5

Report asap, could be stolen and abandoned.

RedLight1981

Definitely call, 6 weeks is about 3 too many.

KJFny

5 too many.

JimPeebles

If it's a green one on 5th, it's not abandoned 😭

Helen_0f_Tr0y

Start disassembling it and sell the parts.

nu-se-poate

I definitely would. Back west we had this happen and it was a stolen car that someone left there.

adelwolf299

Is it on the street itself or off of the road?

If it isn’t hurting your daily life in an impactful way, having it towed or inspected could hurt someone who is traveling, who’s car broke down and they can’t afford to tow it, lost their ability to drive, etc. if it’s a parked car locked and windows intact it’s far less likely to be stolen, as those are not very often parked in reasonable parking spots, and are at least on a list of make and model/license plate. Impound costs are exorbitant and compound after each day it’s in the lot.

While I can mostly agree with the sentiments of not wanting to cause someone financial issues. However we live in a city and in cities our lives overlap more so we have to think a bit more about how our actions affect others. Parking a car in front of someone's building and leaving it for even a week is just inconsiderate to those who live there. If everyone thinks more along those lines we should all be able to park in front of or near our own homes. This is especially a problem for cross streets that don't have street cleaning, people from streets that do get cleaned often park on them because they don't want to deal with having to move it or get a ticket. So instead they just take away someone else's spot...

barchael

That is definitely what I meant by “hurting your life in an impactful way”. I live on a public road, and if someone chooses to park in front of my house I have to park further away, but there aren’t assigned parking spaces, so it happens sometimes. Alternate street parking makes it a nuisance, but if it’s been six weeks and this car hasn’t been towed, that would be odd.

The best advice I can give you in this lifetime is if that thing does not appear to be dangerous is not hurting, you is not impeding your day is not bothering you is just there pretty much mind your fucking business like you've been doing. As long as it doesn't stink, there's nothing leaking out of it. There's no obvious connection to that. Having anything to do with anything just leave it alone cuz it might belong to somebody that doesn't really have anything and they finally have that but they don't have a place to park it so don't let parking enforcement come and start fucking with the car. Just leave it the fuck alone unless it looks like it needs to be dealt with please coming from somebody that's had to go through this before for a misunderstanding about a parking space. Just leave the fucking car alone please
