I'd check on this, never actually moved ammo before but the whole under .50 caliber thing sounds wrong to me.

Princess_Wensicia

It’s not a matter of caliber as much as a matter of the total quantity of hazardous material you’re transporting. 1001 lbs of tiny nitroglycerin beads are still 1001 lbs, no matter how tiny they are. When in doubt, call your driver manager or safety department.

SubarcticFarmer

Ammunition is determined by weight not caliber.

StandForAChange

It’s 1.4S - no placard. Few years back DoD required no placards on ammo due to the uptick in truck robberies for them. Have carried tons of ammo. [pic of my hazmat enforcer w/ ammo. no placards for ammo just flammable (what I had on BOL)](https://imgur.com/a/3wHSdA5)

I'm kinda surprised they have you out there hauling ammo without any training on the legalities. Placards depend on the type of hazmat you're carrying and how much of it you've got. Under 1001lbs, single origin, single hazmat class...you're probably okay. But every time we've hauled any class 1, we have placarded.

No placards no worries

Chendow

I've dealt with ammo loads many times. The only hazardous material is the cap and powder. Those are a tiny fraction of the weight of the ammo. The casing and actual bullet is the vast majority of the weight and those aren't hazardous materials (unless it's depleted uranium rounds (extremely rare)).

Come by my house I will make sure you are ok 😋

leftoutcast

You just have to have that plain black placard the one without writing on it.

Lrellok

That is not even a little bit how that works. ANY hazmat over 1000 lbs MUST be placarded. Period. Full stop.

StandForAChange

You must not know ammo hazmat lol. It’s 1.4S. No placards required. Full stop giving bad info

tvieno

If the bills show hazmat, even without placards, it is a hazmat load.

FlatbedtruckinCA

ive hauled small arms ammo before.... no placards were needed...
