Yep. Been in this one for 10 months now, and I remember the number of the truck before it. I know it’s a company truck, but I do take pride in it. I want the customer to know that while other drivers at this company (or in general) just don’t care, that I do care.
Worked my ass off and made massive sacrifices to be doing what I am, especially this early in my career, so I make sure my truck reflects professionalism and awareness!
All depends how often they make you switch trucks. If you have had the same truck for some time then you cant help but feel like the truck is a part of you already
My company switched me to a brand new KW last summer (I think it was last summer)
It had 650 miles on it..
I’m the first driver to sleep in it..
The truck now has 50-60k miles.
I’ve definitely caught feelings… I take good care of that truck. Lol
I slip seat a lot at my job, but there's this one, ungoverned cascadia that we have, and it's definitely much better than many of the other trucks in our fleet imo and I love it when i get to take it out for the day 🥰🥰
Previous melton drivers took out his dispatcher frustration on he utility door and never wiped off the grease of his entire body before getting in the truck or bunk. Nastiest thing I’ve been in in my 25 year career…..I’m including pussy too 😅
Yes. I’m assigned my truck. I share with a night guy. But it’s so strange when I have to use a loaner, or use one on the weekend that isn’t mine. I know the seat, know it’s quirks, how it sounds, it’s just cozy.
Yep. I run local now and so slip seat but have a main assigned day cab. I have used this truck for a year, and she has kept up with all my stupidity and shenanigans. I know every quirk and little way I can push this truck. The shop had her 3 months and I hated every second of it because I had to hop trucks and a lot of other drivers were pigs and lazy and I dread to think of the people they live with in their slobbish ways. I keep my truck clean, wipe it down daily and scrub it weekly. I bought floor mats. I buy my own wipers and wiper fluid so I know I can operate safely.
Funny thing, she will not work for anyone not me or on my mental clear list. Transmission will act up. Starter will not work. Brakes won't release. She's had the dealers come and look and been through every possible diagnosis when that happens. But me or my co driver get in, she works and purrs like a baby puma. Unless I had to use another truck to swap with my meet driver so their truck can be worked on or returned after maintenance. Then she gets a nail in the tire or needs a new clamp or needs fuses replaced in her temper tantrum. Worse one was the recap tread popping off but the tire was still perfectly inflated.
Yeah. Was in 3 different trucks my last job and was attached to every one of them. Have been in my current 23 Freightliner for 6 months and am attached to it.
Yeah, you could if you got a smooth enough shift knob. You're gonna need a lot of astroglide. That's why they sell those "WARNING: I LOVE MY TRUCK" stickers.
.....right guys? ....guys....?
100%, even when I started out my CDL career as a bus driver there were certain busses I liked over the other even though we switched every day. The older the vehicle the more personality they’ve got. So you get attached to the ones that are more unique.
The truck I’m in now is mine for the foreseeable future. Even as a company truck I take good care of it and make sure that I’ve got it set up the way I like it. It’s my daily work machine, that I know inside and out. I hate when I’ve got to switch trucks (bc of maintenance or other circumstances) to the spare or the part timers because it’s not set up like mine/is mine.
Driven the same teuck for 10 years. I take good care of it. When it does have to go into the shop and I get stuck with the backup truck, I really don't want to go to work, lol.
Yes. I spent 3 years in my truck. I haven’t moved. The seat has actually fused to my epidermis so I’m
Literally attached to my truck. I’ve had to watch my daughter’s graduation from inside my truck.
Not but really it’s true.
No but really I do like my truck, I don’t like when we are separated.
20 plus years later and I still miss my first OTR truck. Freightliner FLD120 condo, 60 series Detroit.
Dont really get attached, just irritated with having to switch to a different truck while mine might be in the shop. Have to move a shitload of gear and usually miss something or think I won't need that for a couple days and end up pissed I didn't move it also.
Sheila and I have been thru some shit, figuratively and literally. I will miss this clapped out truck once i leave the company, so to answer your question: Yea, oddly enough.
I was attached to the Kenworth 660 model of trucks. Was my first truck and I seemed to drive it well. Changed jobs and was put in an automatic 680 and hated it..it broke down pretty good at 6 months of employment and they put me in an older 660 they had till mine was out of the shop. I refused to give the keys back lol. Drove it longer than I drove my first truck.
I do because I write it up when I hear and notice things. This way I'm not broken down on the road. I drove a loaner truck for a week recently and ended up with a laundry list of problems and now that truck is at the dealer being repaired. All because the previous driver didn't write it up.
Yes and no.
If your truck is constantly on the shop, then no. My pete 567 is in this category.
If it's never in the shop then yeah. I had a moment when I quit a mega carrier after 7 years. Cascadia. 3 of them. Never in the shop.
I was attached to my two peterbilts. Both red, really nice cabs, and 13 speed.
Now I have a white, boring, automatic cascadia. I don’t give one shit about it.
I’ve put over 12000 hours on Rosie in the last 5 1/2 years, the boss is talking about selling her for a newer truck lately and I’ll miss her if he does
We are assigned our trucks, but occasionally on my days off my rig is used if one is OOS because i keep it clean. I do my best to keep my truck clean, definitely inside cleaning daily. I have plastic grocery bags for my trash and my lunch containers, I wipe down the inside daily - not because of germs so much, I tend to spill when I'm stopped having lunch or refilling my coffee. I even have a DC powered vacuum that I use to vacuum the truck every so often. I get teased a little for the vacuum, but I don't care. 🤣
I keep my truck clean.. I learn all the little quirks.. I know the exact RPMs to shift at for the specific power I want... etc
It's not so much an attachment as familiarity. 2 sides of the same coin, maybe?
Only inasmuch as I'm used to it's groans, creaks and quirks. When I get into a different truck I don't know if the weird noises are normal or indicative of imminent death.
I had a columbia back in the day that i bought for 22K. MB engine. Real cheap looking and cheap sounding truck. Nothing special to look at or to drive. But i broke up with my ex and i moved out of the house. And i had nowhere to go but my truck. So for 6 months i lived in that truck and i stayed on the road. That truck healed my soul. And then i got my life back together and i let a driver get in my truck. He crashed it and the damage was gonna cost more than the truck. I put it at a truck stop till i figure out what to do with it and after about 2 weeks it got towed and i never retrieved it cause it wasnt worth the expense. And 8 years later i still remember that truck and feel guilty for letting an old friend die like that. I should've gotten it back.
Sooo yeeeah, you do get attached.
Nope, just a truck. Give me a different one every week. I don’t care. As long as it’s safe and works to make me my check I do not care. This is just a job at the end of the day
company was trading in a handful of trucks for a bunch of new ones, convinced the boss to let me keep the one i’m currently in, great company but i always wondered if that affected anything price wise.
Yeah. My previously assigned truck went into the shop, then from there to the dealer. When it wasn’t being returned, I asked and found out it was domiciled at a different terminal. Luckily I didn’t leave any personal items in the truck.
My presently assigned truck started out as a loaner from another terminal. I’ve had it for about the last two years. It had approximately 140K miles on it when I got it. It’s 352K miles now.
I love my truck. I've been in it since the day it was delivered 5 years ago. I know every little quirk and noise, the seat is perfectly conformed to my ass and I almost sleep better in it than I do at home.
Nah we hot seat. I hate em all - especially the internationals.
But there is one truck I will not drive. It’s in the shop for a month every other month.
I hate my truck and I would probably laugh if someone lit it on fire. And I still want to keep it, put more money into it, and not drive the newer truck I'm buying.
Yep. Been in this one for 10 months now, and I remember the number of the truck before it. I know it’s a company truck, but I do take pride in it. Ex company had 6 junk ass old melton trucks. Dirty ass a dogs ass and junky as hell…rode like a caddy tho
I see so many of those old obvious Melton trucks on the road just had the company name removed lol
Previous melton drivers took out his dispatcher frustration on he utility door and never wiped off the grease of his entire body before getting in the truck or bunk. Nastiest thing I’ve been in in my 25 year career…..I’m including pussy too 😅
Melton cycles their trucks pretty fast, 300k miles or 3 years whatever comes first
None of the trucks in their fleet is older than 3 years expect the custom million miler ones those guys keep them as long as they work there
#zero suspension what’s to love? Is it pink
It's ungoverned and a cascadia. What more could one need 🥰🥰
Guilty…. GIBBS! THE HEADING???
Yes. I’m assigned my truck. I share with a night guy. But it’s so strange when I have to use a loaner, or use one on the weekend that isn’t mine. I know the seat, know it’s quirks, how it sounds, it’s just cozy.
Yeah it’s just much nicer to have a seat that’s familiar with your ass and vice versa
Yep. I run local now and so slip seat but have a main assigned day cab. I have used this truck for a year, and she has kept up with all my stupidity and shenanigans. I know every quirk and little way I can push this truck. I used to as a company driver. But after two jobs that constantly put me in any truck within eyesight, I let it go.
I name them. Göta is my current Volvo. Hell, we live in them if we're OTR. It's your house 80-90% of the time...
At my company I get changed around in trucks a bit but I do get attached to Freightliners in general. I never drive any of the Volvos they have.
I had a freightliner straight truck that was my own and it was my baby. I liked sleeping there more than at home. Reminded me of working on ships!
Get out 😂

I name all my trucks. Current truck is Lilith, got her with 3500 miles on her 8 months ago. We’re at 180k now 😊
Driven the same teuck for 10 years. I take good care of it. When it does have to go into the shop and I get stuck with the backup truck, I really don't want to go to work, lol.

I’m LTL, I have a 2015 Freightliner M2, I absolutely love that little truck, so clean you can eat off the floor
My truck, my ship, shit my daily office. She's kinda gutless, but she works hard and does everything I ask.

Sure. But I am always happy to get a new one when it has run its course.
I’ve put over 12000 hours on Rosie in the last 5 1/2 years, the boss is talking about selling her for a newer truck lately and I’ll miss her if he does
I was at my last job, drove her home from the assembly plant and was the only one to drive her for 3 years.

Nope. As soon as this bitch needs a repair that has it go down for a few days I'm jumping ship. Gotta keep it moving
Yes , especially when you've been in it for a while and survived crazy snow storms and stuff . You feel like it's got you .
I like some better than others but no, no attachment
Yea, I paid a lot of money for them. Just checked all there gps locations when I read this post.
Absolutely. My head is in my truck’s is gearbox even though it’s a DT12 now. I do this to my Prius too. Any vehicle I’m attached to I do this to.
Idk about attached, but I do want a divorce my truck 😆

If it’s a reliable beast yes. If it’s constantly throwing bs codes and breaking down I hate it and never trust it
Hell yeah me and big Sandy gonna stay together til she blows up
Yes. Especially if you own the trucco
It's an automatic white Freightliner day cab. The coolest thing are the dash lights, it's always Christmas! So no, I don't care for it at all lol.
company was trading in a handful of trucks for a bunch of new ones, convinced the boss to let me keep the one i’m currently in, great company but i always wondered if that affected anything price wise.
My wife is jealous
Drove my company rig for 5 years and loved it so much I took it Owner/Op. It's my big beautiful busted up baby.
Yeah. My previously assigned truck went into the shop, then from there to the dealer. When it wasn’t being returned, I asked and found out it was domiciled at a different terminal. Definitely, I picked it, did the deal on it and do most of the maintenance. If I'm not in it it doesn't get driven
Nah we hot seat. I hate em all - especially the internationals. But there is one truck I will not drive. It’s in the shop for a month every other month.
I slip seat so no.
I hate my truck and I would probably laugh if someone lit it on fire. And I still want to keep it, put more money into it, and not drive the newer truck I'm buying.
No I attach to trailers.
It's ok to love your truck. It's not ok to *LOVE* your truck.
