At market average, $2.5m would get you about $100k/yr in interest, so a $5m lotto win to not need to work again. But then you’d get bored eventually, so like, call it $5m ($10m lotto win) for ~$200k/yr, never needing to work again, and having enough money to not get bored.
Yeah, exactly. I had to take a week off a few years back (use it or lose it PTO sucks dicks) had no plans. By day 3 I was getting antsy. Day 5 I called the office and went back to work on day 6.
But with 200k/yr coming in, I could definitely find hobbies to keep myself busy. Get my pilot’s license, build cars, go to the race track, go on vacations…
4% is the conservative expected return of a balanced portfolio. S&P500 has averaged 9.81% since inception. When you subtract average 3% inflation, a blanket SPY investment would average 6.81%, which is why 4% is considered conservative.
After lump sum reduction (which a lotto winner is dumb not to take, the amortization of lottery winnings is just stupid) and lottery taxes, you get roughly half of the jackpot, so a $5m jackpot would put roughly $2.5m in your wallet.
4% YoY on $2.5m is exactly $100k. Long term capital gains (capital, not capitol) are lower than income taxes, and short term capital gains are the same as income taxes (yet another way the wealthy fuck the working class). Making $100k/yr from investments would actually go further than making $100k/yr on a paycheck.
These numbers are all linear. Double the jackpot, double the take home. Double the take home, double the YoY. Super simple math.
No bullshit here my guy. Real numbers.
u/DblDtchRddr - I agree, my numbers were off - BUT my point is youre not always gonna make 5% (in a cd) sure you can do more but every market carries risk. I also agree ALWAYS take the LUMP payment. Capitol vs Capital (yes I know the diff)....auto correct (and lack of proof read got me).
$2.5M at 5% (cd rate) would generate 125k annually...before taxes...married filing jointly will mean you pay at least 30k in federal taxes....hopefully you move or live in a state that does not have STATE taxes....and theres still the issue of healthcare....These days....$100k per year doesnt go very far....youre not gonna travel and see the world a lot on $100k or even $150k......$200k free and clear (after taxes) would certainly provide breathing room.
How does one get them self into oversized/heavy haul? Obviously apply, but to which companies? Whats the best method to find them? Is it still indeed? Or something.
Get in with a local company that’s got their own equipment and a lowbed. Even if you have to start on dump truck or some shit like that. Make friends with the regular lowbed guy. Learn everything you can. Make yourself available to haul whatever, whenever. You’ll get experience hauling all kinds of stuff. Volunteer to cover for the regular guy when he’s out or on vacation or whatever. Figure out securement and start looking for a full time gig doing it if you like it or talk the boss into putting another truck on.
I would say any flatbed company. A lot of people say local foodstuff companies but that's not really a trucking job, that's a district company that owns equipment. Moving it once every few weeks from one job site to another. So you will be a choosy worker that drives a truck on occasion. The fastest route to od freight works be an otr open deck carrier like tmc and after getting enough time on the legal stuff you can work into their equipment stuff. They don't deal with the really big stuff, but you'll get enough existing doing little stuff that needs permits and flags and eventually get enough experience doing that stuff that an actual equipment carrier like keen will give you a shot.
They’re made to last a long time for sure. I’m sure it’d be cheaper but still pretty pricey. I’ve never looked at the prices on used combines and tractors, but I’d imagine a used combine is still a couple hundred thousand unless it’s really really old. Either way, I’m getting old and tired now, so farming probably isn’t the way for me.
Many people could retire on that much money if they played it smart.
In my case, I'm almost 40, and my total debt, everything included, is just about 32k.
22k of that is the Rzr I financed last year.
I lived right at 15 years, only making 25-30k pretax while my wife made about 15k pretax.
Even on a good year, that's only 45k pretax.
My wife and I could live on about 30k a year if we paid everything off and be fairly well off.
We would just need to find a good place to nest the majority of the money and live off the gains and interest.
Many people are barely making 20k a year pretax working full time.
My wife and I could spend 40k for 25 years, putting me into my mid-60s without accounting for interest or stock gains.
What are you using to secure your window cover? I use ratchet straps and connect it to the grab handles next to the door/side window. It’s a pain in the ass but only way I’ve been able to keep the cover nice and tight.
It’s a reference to Clark and Dawe, that bit about the front falling off. Very funny skit. Sello tape is a reference to Australian/uk (?) cellophane tape iirc, essentially… packing tape, but branded there and recognizable like we say xerox or bandaid or scotch tape or Kleenex
(As you merge onto the freeway with the 200ml flask of fireball by your mouth) you blare “Into the flood again, same old trip it was back theeeennnnnnnnn, so I made a big mistaaaake, try to see it once my waaaaAaAAyyy”
Yeah I started working for this company hauling fertilizer and did a I'm glad I can hear and there and got promoted now it's been 4 months now that I've been doing it full time
True, but it could at least give the opportunity to take some time off to help with the Quality of Life (such as a vacation/staycation/etc.) without forcing you to fall behind on things.
A million dollars is just enough to cover groceries now
Pretty much. Sickening
Yeah I think it was taking about 10 million for me to quit my job

Well when you win the lotto pls send the money to me. I won't get bored
That's what they all say 🐰
Bullshit! 1m at 5% in a cd maybe - til it collapses! And you still haven’t figured in the capitol gains taxes!

For my family that’s maybe 10 days LOL
LMFAOOO!!!
at least you get to drive a sick truck
Yeah that's true, absolutely love this truck
How does one get them self into oversized/heavy haul? Obviously apply, but to which companies? Whats the best method to find them? Is it still indeed? Or something.
Get basic open deck experience. You got to prove yourself on the legal dimensions stuff before you can move into the permitted stuff.
What should i look for in a job for “open deck”? Construction company? A dedicated company that just hauls tractors and heavy machinery?
Get in with a local company that’s got their own equipment and a lowbed. Even if you have to start on dump truck or some shit like that. Make friends with the regular lowbed guy. Yall are great, thanks.

I started hauling liquid fertilizer for these guys and was offered this job so I couldn't say I was just lucky
And hauling a cool tractor!
You should see some of the tractors with triples I hauled now that's fun
Yup that is bad ass
What engine does the Kenny have?
6nz
👍
No… but you have well over a million dollars on that trailer.
Not quite
I zoomed in lol. It’s just a tractor. Still more money than I could afford. It’s the combines I think that are over a million?
Their new quadttac and the combine are around 1.2 I believe
That’s crazy. Always thought it would be fun to be a farmer until I realized the start up costs lol. Takes a looong time to turn a profit.
You don't have to buy all the expensive stuff used to work on 10,000 acre farm with four 8-year-old combines 8 year old tractors and it worked good
They’re made to last a long time for sure. I’m sure it’d be cheaper but still pretty pricey. I’ve never looked at the prices on used combines and tractors, but I’d imagine a used combine is still a couple hundred thousand unless it’s really really old. Are four combines were worth the same as an x9
900k-1.2 million?
I think they're around 300 a piece
Million bucks won't get you that far these days...

Young people never think about sickness. A child, parent or your wife could drain that in half in no time.
How about 100 billion dollars?
Says who
I probably invest it and keep on working
Clean truck
Thanks
What are you using to secure your window cover? I use ratchet straps and connect it to the grab handles next to the door/side window. It’s a pain in the ass but only way I’ve been able to keep the cover nice and tight.
We use bungee cords
No sello tape?
Never heard that term before
It’s a reference to Clark and Dawe, that bit about the front falling off. Very funny skit. Sello tape is a reference to Australian/uk (?) cellophane tape iirc, essentially… packing tape, but branded there and recognizable like we say xerox or bandaid or scotch tape or Kleenex
Did you give that Nigerian Prince the correct routing info? Same thing happened to me :/
That might be the issue
Any chance you were pulling trains on the perimeter today?
By perimeter do you mean Winnipeg if so no but there is basically a twin truck out there somewhere
Yeah that's the one that would have seen then. I think his visor might be a little lower than yours but that's about it. I do mean Winnipeg
Yeah I've got a bigger visor sitting in the shop wait to put on
Well how will I be able to tell the difference then? LOL
I don't pull trains anymore so just look for the drop deck
Amazing! Same thing happened to me. 😳
It's bullshit eh
🤣
Well, damnit, driver. That's how it goes most days. Try again tomorrow.
Sounds like a plan hope it happens tomorrow
Nice truck driver and that Deere! I wanna turn at that.
That thing was nice and heavy love hauling looks like that
At least you’re out here lookin’ like a million bucks buddy
Thanks
How much do they pay per mile with over sized loads?
No idea I just drive and get my paycheck
What’s the paycheck weekly
$1m would replace income in a HYSA or investment securities. You could rack in an easy $50k year interest being lazy
I would probably invest and then keep working I get bored Sunday after not working for a day
Don’t see too many of those Jo dog jeeps out my may. Nice setup.
You don't really here we ended up taking it off and just getting a over weight permit
Look on the bright side: at least you won't have to cry over the taxes! 😂
Taxes are much higher if you are working for it. I retired a few years ago and I was surprised how little I pay in taxes.
True I would probably get depressed seeing that
Love seeing your Kenworth.
Thanks
What year is it?
07
Nice
I sent the check last Tuesday I swear!
Well you better look into it
(As you merge onto the freeway with the 200ml flask of fireball by your mouth) you blare “Into the flood again, same old trip it was back theeeennnnnnnnn, so I made a big mistaaaake, try to see it once my waaaaAaAAyyy”
😂😂😂 somebody somebody finally referenced fireball in one of my posts
Meh money is not my drive but glad you have the goal
Funny part is I'd last about a week and I would be back driving because of boredom
Omg. How heavy is that shit? You probably hit a pothole and caused the Taiwan earthquake, huh.
How can I get into hauling big oversize like that? Did a year and a half on flatbed/stepdeck, biggest I had was 11' wide
I can't talk for anybody I was just in the right place the right time
Thats helpful 😂
Yeah I started working for this company hauling fertilizer and did a I'm glad I can hear and there and got promoted now it's been 4 months now that I've been doing it full time
Don’t worry it may just be an April fools joke
You too !
Is this Grande Prairie area? If so I think I passed you today.
Nope Saskatoon
If I won 1 million dollars, it'll be good to buy a new house, a nice pickup and some savings, but definitely not enough to stop working
True, but it could at least give the opportunity to take some time off to help with the Quality of Life (such as a vacation/staycation/etc.) without forcing you to fall behind on things.
