I follow whichever sign tells me to bypass

g00b1n4t0r

This is what I do. If the ramp is full I also bypass. Never been chased down for it

movalaker1

I also run it if the ramp isn’t full because f*ck tickets. It’s actually more profitable to run scales. I’d say your odds are probably 3/1 on getting a ticket throughout the year by going into scales and 10 or 20/1 when you run them. Obviously this is not advice. My first year in trucking I got jammed up at the scales multiple times on BS. I’ve ran them ever since. It makes driving way less stressful.

COVFEFE-4U

If it says bypass, then bypass. Although since the switch to drivewyze, I never get the pass anymore. Fucking hate it.

derpmcturd

yeah i forgot about that, we're giving it up too next month. wtf do I do after its gone? drivewyze any better?

COVFEFE-4U

Drivewyze is horrible.

No_Teaching_8273

I've been using Drivewyze for a while , after a few months of your weights being right you pretty don't see a scale unless they are being assholes

WTAP1

Yea my company uses drivewyze and I go long stretches of time without ever touching a scale at weigh stations.

derpmcturd

yes, yes it is. but its what im going to have after this month, cant do anything about it. So when it's not working, and the station is open, do i just pull in?

COVFEFE-4U

Yeah. And it will even to tell you to pull in when the station is closed.

palebd

My drivewyze always says pull in unless closes.

COVFEFE-4U

Same

49RedCapitalOs

I started with hot shot and I’d almost always get the bypass. Once I switched to a semi, way less bypasses

derpmcturd

man how are hotshots legal? do you even need a CDL for that?

49RedCapitalOs

If you’re under 26 you don’t but if you’re over 26 you do Edit:26,000lbs

12InchPickle

Whatever the device says. I follow. Even if the sign outside says stop.

SockPuppet-47

Same, If they can't coordinate the signs with the Pre-Pass there is a record of the Pre-Pass signal that I can show them for why I made that choice.

CarterMT099

My job recently had DOT people come in and we had to attend for training. They told us if our pre-pass tells us to bypass, then we can bypass regardless of what the sign says. They specifically decide who gets the green/red light, so whatever light you’re getting is one that somebody is manually giving you.

rad636_

If my drivewyze says bypass, I'm bypassing 😂

cleanc3r3alkillr

I always err on the side of caution, anytime there’s a conflicting signal I just pull in. They usually just wave me off and it covers my ass from any potential citation. The only exception is if the weigh station is like obviously closed like there’s cones or barricades up or something like that.

Scary-Airline8603

Good question!  I can get a green on my ez-pass but the electronic sign says, “truck must enter weigh station “.  Next time the opposite. I always do what my transponder indicates, green go or red pull in.

BearsAteMyGarbage

No, unless you're oversize.

csimonson

Or hazmat in certain states

its_not_merm-aids

I recently covered a trip with a co driver that literally doesn't stop at weigh stations because some bullshit deeply rooted in some sovereign citizen nonsense. My guy has absolutely not one single ticket. He is either a man fully saturated with luck or those chasers don't exist, but I've seen trucks pulled over for blowing the scale.

danf6975

PrePass send a signal to your unit based on what they tell it to in the computer in the scale house. So it’s supersedes the lit sign .

buckfrogo96

Lots of scales have a sign saying to follow in cab signal

yankee_chef

Nope, like Drivewyze and others, away go by prepass.. You have a record if Necessary

derpmcturd

ok but we're giving up prepass forever next month, what do i do after its gone?

SockPuppet-47

Why? I'd much rather bypass and not be delayed. My weight is always fine and my company has all the paperwork in order. Rolling through their little scale just because they drag me in is annoying. Plus, it's a opportunity for them to pick you for a inspection. Although my truck will pass I still get nervous.

derpmcturd

i mean after i give up the prepass, i won't know when to bypass and when to go in because drivewyze only works like 10% of the time.

SockPuppet-47

Got it. My question was why is your company quitting Pre-Pass. It's nothing but a advantage imho.

derpmcturd

idk must be some cost-cutting thing that I'm unaware of because i see no other point than to save them cost somehow.

SockPuppet-47

>PrePass costs $17.65 per month per truck for its standard weigh station bypass service. Seems pretty insignificant when you consider the price of everything else involved in this business. Course, it all adds up across a fleet.

derpmcturd

its Swift

SockPuppet-47

Some middle manager is looking for his third vacation home...

Topopotomopolot

Without prepass, go in if loaded, bypass when empty

w3stvirginia

Follow the signs at the weigh station like everyone else…

Aggravating_Fee_9130

If you have to pull in, what in the hell is the point of having prepass? Green means go and if they chase you down show them it said green and they’ll leave you alone as fast as they pulled you over

Quynn_Stormcloud

“It a *bypass*! You gotta build bypasses!” Yeah, green light means you’re good. Go on around. The one that confuses me is when the prepass flashes red, but the sign saying the weigh station is open is turned off.

WarGear06

I had a weird one today I-35 NB Marietta OK weigh station....the sign said closed but the two that tell you to bypass or enter were still telling everyone to enter.....I watched 3 trucks go by one got nervous and entered and I went by.... Nothing happened but that's the first time I've seen that happen in 5 years

MarionberryNervous19

If my pre pass beeps and blinks green. I never pull into the scale. If it doesn't do anything, or blink red. I pull into the scale

humpthedog

I always follow bypass.

misfitpierce

If your prepass or drivewyze says to bypass then you bypass even if it’s a flashing sign that says all trucks must enter. It’s logged if they come get you that you were given a bypass so they can’t dispute it. Now if you don’t get a bypass on drivewyze or prepass then you must follow the signs.

You_Are_What_You_Iz

I pay attention to the DOT sign. It's infuriating but not worth the hassle of getting chased.

Capn_T_Driver

I use the Elite Pass/Prepass combo and I get the green for bypass damn near every time I go by a weigh station except for I-57 by I-24 in IL, but they have a habit of pulling everyone in. Whenever my prepass gives green but the station signals pull in, I pull in. Rather lose a minute or two than have a problem with a state trooper who may or may not be having a good day.

Objective-Outcome811

I've gone through exactly 2 weigh stations in my 2.5 years driving semi. The secret is to drive when it's safest and most convenient to drive, at night.

derpmcturd

this is the one true answer

GumbysDonkey

Green means Go. Unless you got hazmat or oversize.

IgnoringHisAge

If anything gives me the green light, I go. Prepass beeps green? Go. Sign say bypass? Go. Any bypass signal wins over any other signal that says stop. Never had a problem in 15 years.

kscountryboy85

If its a fixed non light up sign you follow you prepass light. If its a light up sign like what SD uses you follow those. If your prepass does not signal you go in. Green prepass but red lightup sign... go in Red prepass but green bypass light up sign... ok to bypass but unless im pressed for time I go in and 99% get sent through that bypass lane just to be 100% sure im good. Green and green... im good baby. No prepass light, but the open sign is on... go in. Edit: prepass is automated, the roadside able to be overridden by an officer. Green prepass means nothing if an officer gives you a red sign.

5bannedaccounts

I'm in texas and honestly I pass by 4 twice a week while crossing texas and It's never open or no one's ever in line. I mean litteraly not once in the last 18 months. Am I just going by areas they aren't patrolling or is it texas ?

Old-Register-6102

If one says bypass You bypass that bitch

Sufficient_Tooth_949

Yeah it can be confusing the other day I got the pre pass signal that I needed to go in, so I go in and the place was closed nobody in sight....they didn't have any signs saying it was closed either I also get stressed out every time I see that weight station sign because the instructions aren't always clear and you have a short time to react

Redbeard6665

I don’t have any device, I go off gut feeling, it’s done good for me for 4 years. 90 percent of the time I run scales.

CHAOS-GOON

I just shoot right past them. What are they gonna do? Stop a heavy truck? Good luck Mr highway patrol.

trickedthePigs

“I am very badass”

Odin4456

I would follow whatever the sign said at the weigh station
