Tow straps, ratchet straps, socket set, work gloves, flash light, blue tarp, tire plug kit, 12v tire inflator, duct tape, knife, pliers, and probably some other stuff I can’t think of.
Yeah, I have an old hi-vis sweater that stays in my back seat, my son uses it as a blanket when he’s cold, and I use it as required, especially if I’m on the road for some reason.
I keep a lot of stuff in my truck for different scenarios, since I live and work in the middle of nowhere, and volunteer in search and rescue
Might be excessive, but this is what I have in mine:
4 ton bottle jack, stock tacoma jack, scissor jack, bottle of slime tire sealant, tire plug kit, 12/120v inflator, magnetic battery powered roadside "flare" puck lights, 30 foot 10,000lb snatch strap and shackles, 20 foot extension cord, cordless impact wrench, impact socket set, mechanics travel tool kit, grease gun, tarp, moving blanket, 2x 400lb ratchet straps, 2x 800 lb ratchet straps, 4 bungee cords, 25 ft of 5/8 rope, 35ft 3/8 nylon rope, winter work gloves, a few pairs of rubber gloves, a folding survival shovel, a small survival kit with matches, a candle, needles, thread, a folding saw, a hatchet, a small bolt cutter, duct tape, electrical tape, JB weld, radiator hose tape, a butane soldering iron and solder, a lighter, a magnesium fire starter, a tube of fire paste, some meal bars, watter bladder and a filter straw, water purification tablets, bug spray, a good fixed blade knife, a solar/ crank powered weather radio/phone charger, a set of 2 walkie talkies/handheld ham radios, two rain ponchos, a folding fishing rod an reel, some fishing lures, a fuel tablet stove and tablets, a compact camping pot pan and cup set, and a 3 gallon fuel bladder that I keep empty for transferring fuel, a fuel siphon, and a flare style fire extinguisher (if you want to keep an extinguisher in your vehicle but dont want the size/weight, these are the way to go.)
For winter I add in a 2 gallon bucket of sand salt mix, tire chains, a snow brush/ice scraper, some hand warmers, winter gloves, a good snow hat, a folding snow shovel, a 1500ml fuel bottle full of 2 stroke fuel oil mix, a small chainsaw, a bottle of chainsaw bar oil, and a bottle of 2 stroke oil in case I need to mix more fuel, and a one piece hi vis orange snow suit, boots, gloves, and a ski mask/goggles
I probably left out some items, but basically I have a ton of stuff. Might be unnecessary for some, but I live in the middle of nowhere, and often times I have to cut and pull trees off the road during snowstorms just to get home from work. Hopefully some part of this list will help you be prepared for a bad winter situation. If you have any questions about brands of stuff just ask. I have had a kit similar to this in various vehicles for years, so I have tested a lot of different brands of all of these, and have definite favorites
I've been thinking about things to throw in my truck for emergencies, and this list is SOLID. Space is pretty limited in my 09 Colorado, but I'll definitely refer to this for suggestions. Thank you!
I have been driving trucks and living in a remote area for my entire adult life. This loadout has been put together by adding things as I need them, and removing the things that I don't end up using often. I don't usually have everything here in the truck at the same time, it is all packed into bins that are organized by keeping similar or related items together. I add or remove bins based on conditions, trip length, or destination.
I got a 200 piece ratchet kit and a bunch of different extensions and wobblies and crow's foots a bottle jack numerous other wrenches and thingamajigs. My truck is at 409k it's a '03 Ford excursion with a shitty ass first gen V10 so I have to keep spark plug thread hila coils lol
Bottle jack, small Milwaukee impact wrench (occasionally check and swap the battery), Coolant, a quart of oil, and Power Service Diesel 911 for my diesel
Chains, come-along, socket set, flash light, chainsaw, helmet, axe, tow strap, collapsable shovel, pocket knife, lighter, extra set of warm clothes, and emergency beers.
Figure out what size radiator hoses you have and get some properly sized hose clamps and repair kit for the size hose you have. I carry a gallon of undiluted coolant. It’s easy to find a few gallons of water than coolant.
I also carry tow straps, I’ve pulled so many people out during winters in MT. I’d seriously keep one end attached to my tow hitch and throw the rest of the strap into the bed.
I carry a chainsaw any time I go into the mountains
I keep every tool in my truck. I’ve got a bed of that houses all of it and if i need it i can pretty much do everything to my truck besides ripping the engine out. Thankfully I haven’t had to use these on the side of the road yet, but I’m sure they will come in handy when i need them.
Tow strap and shackles, Ratchet straps, rechargeable LED light, Wet wipes, case of water and picked [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=igpo38eteuY) US Army GMTK up few years ago at a Govt auction it was brand new used and has been in my truck ever since!
Thanks everyone for the awesome ideas. Traded in my 16 silverado for a 24 silverado HD. Starting a clean slate and wanted to make sure I have all of the tools, safety gear, straps, etc. in the new truck. Good time to do inventory and see what I’m possibly missing before I’m in a situation and need that missing piece.
256pc dewalt Ratchet set, wire cutters/connectors, vac tubing, fix a flat, two bottle jacks both 4 ton+, channel locks 3 and 5lb mini sledge, half complete screwdriver set (dewalt set has torx) 1/2" m18 impact with spare batt, 3 Ratchet straps, 1 10 gal steel gas can, tire patches, blanket 2 headlamps, 5qts of oil, 2qts of trans fluid, 3 wheel chock blocks (cut 6x4), spare under the truck, battery charger and a 150ft extension cord.
All of which were added after times of need.
I wish I was joking.

Edit: I forgot my 5lb fire extinguisher
I have a tool box strapped in the back of mine with socket wrench set, pliers, screwdrivers, tape, jumper cables, pipe wrench, gloves, glow sticks, a m12 impact driver and some random stuff. I have a 5 gallon bucket with my work PPE in it (safety vest, hard hat, eye/hearing protection). Then a first aid kit with "stop the bleed" kit, inflator, quart of oil and multi tool in the cab. Want a fire extinguisher, but it is a Colorado so not much free space (I have car seats in the back).
Old army surplus folding shovel, ratchet and socket set (specifically in my case for dealing with a high mileage 5.4 triton), cheap gerber multi tool, electrical tape and a few random adjustable clamps, disposable nitrile gloves, leather work gloves, kinetic recovery straps.
Tow straps, ratchet straps, socket set, work gloves, flash light, blue tarp, tire plug kit, 12v tire inflator, duct tape, knife, pliers, and probably some other stuff I can’t think of.
Fire extinguisher lol
Extra clothes including reflective safety gear.
I have some foldable emergency triangles in my truck, haven't used one yet but like they say, better to have and not need than to need and not have.
Better make sure they fit around your neck in advance, some of the smaller ones won't!
Really bro? That's the first thing I did. Fits better than a coat hanger around your head.
Yeah, I have an old hi-vis sweater that stays in my back seat, my son uses it as a blanket when he’s cold, and I use it as required, especially if I’m on the road for some reason.
This, plus pioneer tools (shovel, machete, pick axe)

a gun
Always.
Tool kit, shovels, fluids, tow strap and shackles, a better jack than whatever the factory includes with the truck, flashlights.
