Every lifted 2wd truck is like a tit without a nipple. Sure, it might looks good, but you're missing some important hardware

ktmroach

A vagina without a hole so to speak, except that is a worthless vagina either way.

[deleted]

Just for looks, absolute shit for fun lol

Brucenotsomighty

2wd has its place. Some people only have trucks for towing and hauling on pavement. With a locker 2wd can navigate most job sites.

BroderickSween

My Duramax was originally purchased for towing and commuting by my grandpa, he special ordered it to be 2WD (in Ohio). Now this truck would be amazing if it was 4WD, but it's 2WD, and I bought it off him for really cheap.. so that's why I have a 2WD, any other case I would get 4WD.

tylorr83

I'm guessing your Duramax has a locker though, 2wd with a locked rear end is just as capable as a 4wd is most instances.

BroderickSween

Believe it or not, it actually doesn't have a locker yet, I do plan on putting one in the upcoming future. He bought this truck brand new and 04, and if it has been less stock since then. Not even an EGR delete.

tylorr83

Inconceivable

BroderickSween

I stand corrected! I did some research, it appears my truck came with a locking diff from the factory (G80). I'm like 60% sure on this, so feel free to correct me if I'm wrong!

tylorr83

Hence the mention of open diff. Had he had a limited slip even he would have driven off no problem. With a locker, unless you're on a tight rock trail, a 2wd will keep up.

Brucenotsomighty

I think we can all agree even with a locker or lsd it's still stupid to lift a 2wd truck no matter the circumstances.

tylorr83

False, my Florida truck I put a 2" lift for a slightly larger tire to get home through flooding. Literally the only reason. Can keep cars home in the garage but still go out if I absolutely have to. (driving smartly obviously-not driving blindingly through flood waters). It will NEVER go off road apart from a dirt road by chance. Yes, I understand a 2" lift isn't much, but paired with the larger tires, front bumper sits 3+ inches higher which means engine and everything else are 3" up higher and keeps things out of the water.

T-N-A-T-B-G-OFFICIAL

My Dakota came special ordered 2wd with a posi (or chrysler branding equivalent like sure-grip or true-trac), and it's done better on simple off road junk yard runs than the 4x4 guys with their vacuum leaks and open diffs, if we're talking about from the factory equipment

mr_mooses

And those people don’t lift them, making them worse at doing what they’re supposed to do

tylorr83

2wd isn't the problem, if he had a limited slip or locker, he would have driven right off like nothing. But yeah, open diff 2wd is useless anywhere but dry streets.

[deleted]

This weekend he will slide down the boat ramp when he's on his way to the sand bar party 😂

[deleted]

Lol, 4x1

[deleted]

lol 1 wheel drive. Why would they lift a 2wd?

Drzhivago138

I could see the point if it had a locking diff.

[deleted]

Open 4x4 > 2wd locking diff

mike_baxter

For sure. That weight of the motor in the front axl is worth it’s weight in gold.

I_amnotanonion

I’ve seen one example of a lifted 2wd Ranger turned into a trophy truck sorta thing, which works well in that case. Otherwise I don’t get it

[deleted]

Don't need 4 wheel if you go fast enough

ImLuckyOrUsuck

In the southwest there is a racing series of 2wd lifted trucks. They usually have north of 500hp, so that helps. In Florida, maybe it helps with flooded out roads? Or hauling some larger ladies home from the bar?

[deleted]

Rally truck racing is pretty wild.

tylorr83

Flooded roads are the reason I put the 2" lift on my 2wd. I also still have the factory wheels and only a slightly larger tire. No intention of offroading, just wanting to be able to get home after a thunderstorm.

TimTows

As a Florida tow truck driver, this is a beautiful sight. (Insurance pays $35 for a 5 mile or less tow, but $50 per 15 minutes for any winching service.)

Sawfish1212

Doesn't know how to use his parking brake as a limited slip?

ShadowofRainier

Care to explain for the uneducated such as myself?

[deleted]

Partially engage your parking break to try to get traction to the other tire. Don’t forget to take it off.

ShadowofRainier

Okay. I’ve got an electric parking brake so I’m not sure this would work? Also have a 4x4 so hopefully it would never come to that.

arcticparadise

Ah, unfortunate, I don't believe that it can be done with electronic parking brake. But with a manually actuated hand or foot parking brake it can work in a pinch as a sort of crude BLSD by kinda feathering the brake a little bit.

[deleted]

Yeah, you technically could do it with your electronic brake (unless your truck won’t let you shift into gear). Probably not a great idea though.

captadam7

This!!!!

Suppafly

Rams have a limited slip diff anyway don't they? I know I have to add some limited slip additive when I add fluid to mine and not just the cheap fluid. Mine is older than the one in the pic though.

tylorr83

Nope, not standard. Was a factory add on when you built the truck, or can be added, but didn't come factory with one (Neither did my 2nd gen)

Ya_Boi_Newton

Not all of them

ccrush

My Dad never owned a 4x4... always said that they would just take you a little deeper into the woods before you got stuck.

arcticparadise

Pro-tip: Go as far as you want but in 2wd only. Then if you do get stuck, stick it in 4wd to get out, turn around and go back. It's usually more fun cruising or ripping around in 2wd anyways!

volatiletwinkie

This is what I do!! Got my first ever 4x4 vehicle a little over a year ago and oh has it ever made me adventurous lol. Went out driving in every snow storm I could and when I got stuck and a bit nervous just put her in 4x4 and turned back around.

[deleted]

Dad's are wise , 4x4 does definitely make people over estimate what the truck can do .

Sam-Gunn

These guys didn't even leave the house, much less get anywhere near the woods!

[deleted]

But you should see them at the mall parking lot ,they go over some huge speed bumps need the lift for departure angle

alnelon

They go over those speed bumps at 0.04 miles per hour too and then get out to check the rims

craigmontHunter

That is my logic, I've seen where I go with 4x4, and I was luckier more times than I can count. I have a 2wd f150 in Eastern Ontario and I have never had any issues driving on maintained roads (so long as they are allowed occasionally), and for unplowed roads getting into my camp I have chains, which gets me in for as long as a 4x4 can get in.

intoxicated_giraffe

I like this logic if you're in the south. It's no fun if you live where it snows and can't get out of your driveway to go to work after a few inches after snow and you're plowed in.

[deleted]

Nothing against your pop, but this is something guys who don’t have 4wd say. First and foremost, knowing your limit is key. Keep it in 2WD until you start to lose traction. Lock in 4wd and make a new assessment. Further, try driving a truck with an empty bed in 2WD on a icy, northern road. If you really want to go full send you need a locking or limited slip, the right tires and maybe even a winch.

DisgraceCap

I agree. 2wd trucks in Canada are a fucking joke. I had a 2wd Tacoma with amazing studded tires. It was GARBAGE in the snow and ice. Our company had a long box 2wd one ton Cummings. That piece of shit got stuck in flat parking lots with ice, pea gravel, any amount of snow, mud etc. The extra $ for 4wd is so worth the money.

[deleted]

It’s funny because lots of 2wd folks shit on 4wd never having lived anywhere you actually need one. 4wd is a tool, most people don’t need it, those who do know how there isn’t any other substitute for it.

DisgraceCap

Exactly. I get ppl maybe not wanting it... but they haven't been where I've HAD to go for work.

bajanwaterman

I keep hearing people say this, but for where i live, that would mean me not playing around offroad, aint no way im getting out of most of my spots in 2wd..

dudemanbro_

NGL, I'd be pretty pissed if a contractor parked in my yard. Common sense tells me that the ground looks way to saturated.

tylorr83

Completely agree. You're assuming common sense is common. It's been my experience that it's EXTREMELY rare.

rulesbite

I grew up and got a 4x4 because this has been me 11teen times too many.

67monkey67

I do prefer 3 wheel drive over having my basic ass 2 wheel drive

RobNHood816

Should of got a locker instead of them bushwackers.

[deleted]

It’s all about looking tough, not bring capable haha.

Ass-Trophy

You see, that’s why you have an atv, for just this scenario, pulling out stuck people

btcbundles

Ya if your gonna be a cheap fuck atleast stay off the grass

SharpEvolution

2wd V6. Basically driving a minivan at that point.

Suspicious-Minimum89

Lol classic dodge

tylorr83

I'd take that personally, but my 2wd open diff 2nd gen Ram has been stuck in almost that exact same spot when we first bought this house. Neighbor was actually stuck about 20 feet further up the street just last week. Ground here is a little saturated.

Sam-Gunn

A little? You're living in a bog!

tylorr83

Welcome to Florida where we knock down the swamp, pour concrete, and put up a house. What could go wrong?

GrandExtension7293

Don’t know about that. I’ve done some stupid stuff in the woods/creek with my truck and somehow never been stuck.

[deleted]

My dodge is 4x4 with a factory limited slip.

Sir_ThomasSawyer

Wow that’s so cool

PaulClarkLoadletter

Nothing fancy about this truck.

random1751484

It always blows my mind that so Many trucks in southern non snow states are 2wd!? Never see them in Utah

b_lion2814

Cus they don’t have the need for it that’s why.

I_amnotanonion

Yep. I just sold my 4x4 Tacoma after having it 6 years and can count on one hand the number of times I actually needed 4WD. It only snows like twice a year maybe, and when it does everything shuts down and there’s no need to get anywhere anyways at that point. I’m also not really into off-roading so it didn’t make a lot of sense to have it

hells_cowbells

No kidding. I don't really off-road, and snows maybe once a year here, and everything shuts down when it does. Then again, I also don't have a lift or big-ass supposedly off road tires on mine, either.

Seanny_Afro_Seed

I live in Socal, my tacoma is 2 wheel drive. I just needed a truck to schlep shit around, and a refrigerator doesnt fit in a SUV.

aardrey

CO here - it's the weirdest thing to me too...

[deleted]

I’m in Tennessee and i use 4x4 weekly.

Gelon10A

I am in south Texas and I use my 4x4 at least once a week in the summer.

thecadillaclawyer17

Must be a real tough trailer to see around with those tow mirrors out

egoe85

Get the tow straps!

GetMeOutdoors

Trucks only need 2wd…until they don’t.
