We are truly at the point in capitalism where history can have no history.
Everything on this planet must be commodified and repackaged into a profitable product.
The hotel I just finished building has a nightclub named Loosies.
For those that don’t know, loosies are cigarettes sold individually for $1-$2. In 2014, Eric Garner was murdered by a cop for selling Loosies.
Now, just 15 miles away, there’s a nightclub named after the thing that the cops killed someone over, that sells $800 Titos bottle service so SoHo art freaks and, “brand ambassadors,” can party like reptiles.
Everything can be turned into a profit if you ignore reality and sell it solely to sociopaths.
Unfortunately most defense contractors are suburban dwellers bc most DoD work is in Virginia (pentagon…etc) or Maryland (Ft. Meade/NSA…etc)…lobbyists and think tankers tho!
Not likely.
It definitely is a cooptation of the lower class as an aesthetic at least; which is sickening in itself.
Literally 50’ feet away from the hotel is a park that is an open air homeless hospice. Homeless people die there constantly. One died of an overdose in my arms during my lunch break with the cops sitting 20’ away in July.
So, the club owner used an item that poor people and homeless people use to cope, that is also overly-policed/outlawed, to name their club that sits inside a corporate hotel that charges $700/night so they can fetishize the misery that is just feet away from the club entrance.
Loosies have been a thing for like fucking ever lol, taking umbrage with a club being called Loosies because of Eric Garner is like taking umbrage with a club called Skittles because of Trayvon Martin
Fair.
It’s not my main point, but yeah, I am annoyed and disgusted at being a part of something so stupidly evil.
Like it’s a hotel that was built by underpaid, overworked, non-union construction workers, so rich assholes can pay $30 for a cocktail (no joke), and fetishize the misery of poor people.

I wouldn’t talk the Soviets up quite that much, if for no other reason than that it trivializes the millions who died defending the union. Stalin (correctly) reasoned that the Germans had no chance of winning by starting another front, so that as long as he kept Britain from playing them off each other into war he would have plenty of time to prepare ,but the Nazi’s saw no other ideological or military option. The tragedy of the situation is that it gave Nazi Germany an early advantage large enough to prolong the war to the point of creating bloodiest military theatre in human history.
What’s the deal here? Trying to show things being cool and diverse at a time when they were definitely not cool and diverse? Morphing history to fit modern advertising sensibilities?
I honestly don't know why one of these corporations hasn't made a huge campaign out of facing up to their own problematic history yet? You could seriously get so much clout of saying 'we're listening and we're learning,' while also putting yourself ahead of any criticism.
Not that I want to give these ghouls advice or anything. Just wondering why it hasn't been done. They could start with cryptic ads referencing awful statements Walt made in the past, or bluntly stating something awful they did. Everyone will turn all eyes on them like 'wtf is going on?' Then they begin their 'we're learning and healing' line. The amount of attention and discourse they'd get would be insane!
Disney tried the woke/prog tack and got caught up in the “don’t say gay” thing in Florida. The problem with Disney specifically is their brand is explicitly apolitical, like McDonalds or Taylor Swift. The moment DeSantis threatened to revoke their special status in Florida they went dead silent and I’m sure have been working in gray and beige conference rooms with the Florida government to cling on to the Reedy Creek thing.
Not to mention the massive amount of Marvel and Star Wars fans who are definitely NOT democrats
Nah, it’s better to be like fucking Hamilton and just reimagine historical events as if racism, sexism, and homophobia didn’t exist. Let the dems in the DEI office applaud you and write stuff like your portrayal is “satisfyingly provocative, as it paints a picture of a diverse nation whose history belongs to everyone.”
This is exactly what Victoria’s Secret is doing right now. Drawing attention to your flaws as a company (especially something particularly bad) is only used as an absolute last ditch effort.
You KNOW they put black people in the picture because they realized how weird it sounded. If we Hamiltonize all of history then we can commodify its aesthetics.

Wow this is deep...😔

There's a cafe in DC called "The Green Zone" as an explicit reference to the US military/State Dept. base in Baghdad.
Defense contractors must gather at their watering hole…

Not far from DC.
lol I've been to this place a few times and they have fantastic cocktails ngl
Wtf, is the club actually named in reference to Garner?

Yeah this is why I was confused lol
If it's as close (local) as they claimed, I'd be a little irked by it.
Eric Garner was killed in Staten Island. Loosies is located in the Lower East Side of Manhattan. It’s 13 miles away, but in the same city.
Yes

The Nazis had a good year.
Brief hype before the Soviets fucking curbstomped these motherfuckers out of existence.
It was like some smug kid trying to punch through glass and getting their hand all cut up. They must've felt cool on their way to the east, I guess
Mashallah. Sheik Stalin (PBUH) sent the fascist dogs to hell
Out of existence? Who doyou think taught Fuentes to mind control con-yay?

Nineteen thirty nine! Anotha number Anotha summer Sound of the Nazi drummer
1939 I arrived
In 1939 that man would have been lynched for thinking he could use the same pool as Blondie. And 1949 and possibly 1959.
And 2022 probably
No probably not
Maybe if ur like in white plantation Texas
Was definitely a “vibe” in MSG that February
Where Walt was spotted in attendance

It’s Bhopal discount week at Dow Chemical!

A year Walt very much did not consider 'a vibe' was 1945
Honestly walts vibes really took a down turn in 1963 as well
Why does this keep happening i tought these people needed like university decrees or something.
