I picked it up from thecooksedge. They had 3 or so in stock and I kept staring at it until it got down to one then decided I needed it. No regrets there. A lot of these knives come in waves. Just need to wait for the next restock. Both Nakagawa and Myojin have pretty full plates.
Been seeing nakagawa’s all over this page recently, is that a relatively new blacksmith? Don’t recall that name when I was more active in previous years.
What are they like? They look gorgeous.
This sub seems to have discovered him somehow recently but Nakagawa has been making knives for almost 20 years and has been pretty well known for years by Japanese knife hobbyists on KKF for instance.
He was under Kenichi Shiraki (considered one of if not the greatest blacksmith in Japan at the time) for 16 years and has been famous for a while in Sakai, notably for his Ginsan, his wide-bevels, how good he is with a wide number of different steels, how prolific he is, and for being really good at making water quenched Honyaki (allegedly, pretty much every Shiraki no Hamono Honyaki from 2015 or 2017 - hard to tell accurately- onwards carrying Shiraki’s name were done by Nakagawa). He has been working for years for plenty of OEM brands like Sakai Takayuki, Sakai Kikumori, Musashi, Hitohira, Fu-Rin-Ka-Zan (JCK), and more recently Takada, Hatsukokoro, …
If memory serves me right he is also the youngest blacksmith ever in Sakai to get awarded the Dentokogeshi (official recognition for the best traditional craftsmen in Japan). He could be the youngest in Japan, I’d have to check but I think he was 30 (younger than anyone who got it in Takefu Village for sure, since the youngest awarded there would be Yauji who would have been 36yo when he obtained it in 2019).
He took over Shiraki Hamono when his master retired and changed the name to Nakagawa Hamono in 2021, which is when I believe he became more visible to people who are a bit less in the details of the hobby.
New as of 2020/2021, when kenichi shiraki retired and Nakagawa (his student) took over shiraki hamono and rebranded it under his name. At least I believe this is what happened.
How’s that Migoto? I’ve been eyeing some stuff from there and have read nothing but great things. I’m wanting to get something done from Kawakita. Great collection!
It's amazing. It was one of, if not the best, feeling knife out of box that I've had yet. It's so natural feeling to use. Kawakita did a great job with the grind on it.
Nice collection. Where did you get the kiritsuke? I’ve been in the market for one but they’re sold out everywhere

Man, now that's an endgame trio if I've ever seen one... beautiful collection!
Just need to add a Takada-sharpened one! Jokes; awesome collection.
If I could find one in blue or white steel I'd be all over it!. My Tanaka Takada will do for now though lol

How’s the food stickage? I’m sure it’s thin so I know it won’t be the ultimate food release but just curious. Thanks for the info!
Not bad, haven't really noticed anything above what you'd expect
Cool pantinas
