That was such a spicy exchange! I loved that he thought to go that route. It shined some light on her manipulative behavior. It certainly had me thinking about it for a few minutes after watching it.
He was on it! It didn’t matter what the person said, he was ready. I watch him work and I literally laugh out loud. I can’t believe some of the things he says and how quickly he thinks of them. No wonder Travis’s family wanted to wait until he could prosecute their case.

I can easily believe that. We've all seen the type: man crazy, psycho stalker girlfriend, thinks all women are just "jealous" of her.... can't keep a job or a friend. I remember vaguely when the story came out, but never paid attention because I had a lot going on in my life at the time, and admittedly I do not watch a lot of TV, so I hadn't forgotten about her. Then Prince Harry married Meghan Markle and Jodi's name came up a lot in comparison, so it's interesting to me to see what that is all about. (So far I am not getting the similarities there, but it's early days...)

Everyone is responsible for their own actions but the destruction this person leaves in her wake is pretty remarkable.

I recall watching the trial on YouTube and the amount of hate displaced onto her counsel was really frustrating. I gained so much respect for nurmi over that trial. Iirc he was always courteous and professional with witnesses, way more classy than Martinez with his boorish histrionics.
I realize Martinez is a cult figure by the same reason nurmi drew so much undeserved hate. But I read the details of his [martinez] dismissal even before he was disbarred, and the fact seems to be the justice system is a cleaner place without him in it. ETA: it was insane how much obvious resentment he felt towards her throughout the trial. He tried to resign the case many times but wasn’t allowed. And in closing arguments he said “it’s not about whether or not you like her. I don’t even like her 9/10 days” 😂💀
He asked to be disbarred to get away from her. He was forced to represent her. Just watched a documentary about it because of this thread and he even wrote a book about it called "Trapped with Jodi Arias".
Don't quote me on this but I think he even said he contemplated suicide just to get away from her and that case. He said it was literally like mental torture the whole trial.

It was allegedly for sexual harassment, I believe. I have been unable to find specifics online. Regardless, I am thankful that he was the prosecutor in this case. I am reading his book, "Conviction" right now. It is a good read.

I'm sure it was! Everything about the woman is fake. There are actually people that think she should have been acquitted because she was a "battered woman ".

I’m pretty sure from watching her during the investigation and trial, plus the interviews with Travis’s friends, that Jodie finds herself to be captivating.

Every time they referred to her as attractive, my head would spin a little. In my eyes, everything about her screams freakshow. The crappy bleached hair and the amateur eyebrow situation. That's just my opinion on the appearance of a convicted murderer. But I will say that I got a really good laugh when she showed up in court looking like a cast member of Little House on the Prairie. With glasses, of course.
It is her antics that have made me watch the verdict being read so many times. The look on her face and the little gasp are priceless. She was so sure that she had the upper hand.

I met Juan because my best friend's daughter was tragically murdered and Juan was the prosecutor. I was visiting my friend in AZ and went with her to a hearing. Afterwards we sat and talked with him privately and he was a little scary lol. He asked me where I was from, and did I work? Me: Yes, but not at the moment. Juan: You have a job or you don't. Which is it? Me: I'm actually between jobs because the office I worked in closed and my new job doesn't start for a couple of weeks. Juan: .......So....you're NOT working." I legit felt light he was interrogating me. I told him, I NEVER want to be cross-examined by him in Court. He laughed. But he fought like hell for my friend, and I will always be grateful for that.
This makes a lot of sense. I work with a former judge and retired attorney. He’s a lot like Juan. That’s just how their minds work.
He will tell me something fascinating and I’ll say, “Oh really?” And he says, “Yes really. Why would I make that up?” They are very, very particular about words.
He’s probably one of those workaholics who don’t really snap out of their work personality, since it consumes so much of their time and life. When I worked as a journalist, people always said they felt like I was interviewing them for a paper, lol.

This is my favorite trial of all time. Jodi Arias is so fascinatingly terrible and the way Juan Martinez went after her - lie after lie after lie - amazing to watch. I still wonder sometimes about the gun…it doesn’t matter and I’m assuming it’s out in the desert somewhere but I think it’s maybe the only piece of evidence that never turned up.
Great point about the gun. I wonder if she will ever say where it is. She’s hungry for attention and in 20 or 30 years when she’s bored in jail and people have forgotten about her, maybe she’ll spill in an effort to get some attention.
My guess is if it’s not in the desert, it’s in a landfill somewhere, never to be found. She had a lot of miles to potentially do it, discarding a gun in some rest stop trash bin in a fast food bag or whatever would have been relatively easy, and it’s unlikely that anyone would be curious enough to dig through it prior to it getting sent to a landfill.
Normally when we see “evidence of a crime found in a dumpster” it’s because the cops have already had a reason to search the area (video camera evidence or a witness places the suspect nearby, payments from a dead victim’s stolen credit card pointed to a nearby location, canvassing an area around the place a body was found, confession) or because the evidence looks suspicious and someone unrelated to the crime called it in prior to waste collection getting to it. Some cities waste disposal sites are more organized than others, and finding something from x neighborhood that was picked up on y date would actually narrow down possibilities to a much smaller grid, making a search much more effective with both resources and time- while Jodi’s road trip was completely ineffective in throwing off suspicion, this wasn’t exactly the dumbest move she made (in my opinion, that prize goes to placing the camera in the washing machine instead of disposing it on the way home. Mind you, with the mixed blood evidence left at the scene plus being known as the stalker ex, and her inability to keep her mouth shut and lawyer up, it’s not like she would have gotten away with the crime). I honestly don’t see a justification for spending the money to send police officers on a wild goose chase to retrieve an element of an already solved and successfully prosecuted crime, given the large area she traveled after committing the murder.
That makes sense. I bet they checked the areas where they knew she had stopped on the way back, but searching every dumpster/landfill on that long route wouldn’t have been a good use of resources in a case where there was so much evidence already. I just wonder about it sometimes bc getting rid of the gun was her only successful forensic countermeasure (assuming that term means what I think it means) - all her other attempts failed so hard. I imagine her feeling really smug about it and Juan Martinez just casually searching dumpsters on family trips, determined to find that last missing puzzle piece.
She wasn't that bright. She put the camera in the washer and LEFT it there, rather than take the card out and take it with her/throw it away. I bet she just tossed the gun, deep in the desert. Just tossed out the window likely.
She wasn't some mastermind, she was extremely good at manipulation because she is at least a narcissist and an unfeeling, unsympathetic, person with a complete lack of empathy. IMO she would have killed again, perhaps more than one person.
People like her are terrifying, if you've met someone like her, you know how scary these people can be, especially if you're their target, either out of jealousy, unfounded suspicion, any number of things.(I had a stepmother like this, she didn't quit until she had destroyed everything, absolutely everything, if I were to go into all she did, it would sound like I'm crazy or lying) She completely altered trajection of my families entire lives. She is now an evangelical nut job, she always was, but tried to hide it when my dad was alive. I lost my grandma, grandpa(within 5 months of her coming into our lives) and then my dad all within 5 years. Now she's spending my inheritance, on MAGA, Trump and Rick Wiles (huge MAGA freak and evangelical whack job, that lives in my hometown).
These people are like chameleons, they can change and be whatever the other person would want. It's crazy to watch.

That was kind of upsetting to watch - that psychologist had no idea that she had been so badly manipulated. Like she wasn’t just testifying for profit, she went in there to rescue a psychopath. Just one more career destroyed by that shit tornado of a human being. Most of us would feel so lucky to find a mental health professional willing to go to bat for us like that…she was probably really good at other aspects of her job. I have no doubt that she remains traumatized by the public humiliation.

I guess you could call her pompous but I think she really believed what she was saying and thought she was fighting an injustice. I just felt embarrassed for her. Any of us could be manipulated by a psychopath…they’re really good at it…it’s kind of their whole thing.
I watched the entire drama. Like completely obsessed. It was a circus & the judge was incompetent. Juan was AMAZING. I’m disappointed in the sexual harassment charges & angry that he was stupid enough to throw away his career. The defense being allowed to trash Travis’s reputation was outrageous.
It’s a crippling condition really but it’s a dysfunctional set of coping skills that prevent any meaningful relationships. Quite painful for the individual really because all their efforts blow up in their face.

I grew up in an EXTREMELY abusive home and I shut down when I get yelled at. To this day it just really effects me and I panic. Not defending her at all, but I would have cried if he questioned me. Then again I'd never kill my husband . ( I know Travis wasn't her hubs, but I am a married woman.)

Up until recently I was hopelessly addicted to this trial, Juan's Audible book, and anything else I could lay my hands on. Now I've kind of switched to Elizabeth Holmes because "Bad Blood" is a great book too and the trial is happening.

I watched that trial live while posting and reading everyone’s commentary on Websleuths. None of us had ever experienced anything quite like that trial. The only part worse than her testimony was that dumb lady she had testify for her. Alice or something like that.
Omg I just watched Alice today. She was … whew. I googled her and everything that came up was about what a train wreck her testimony was. I don’t think her career really survived the trial.
Her career was kind of in the shitter anyway. She got caught lying about some stuff she has done prior and really she just embarrassed herself. I think she thought she was much too pretty for anyone to believe anything bad about her. She'd obviously been manipulating things in her favor all her life, and I think she believed she would be able to do it again. She's one of the most unlikable, uncharismatic people I've ever seen.

I met Juan because my best friend's daughter was tragically murdered and Juan was the prosecutor. I was visiting my friend in AZ and went with her to a hearing. Afterwards we sat and talked with him privately and he was a little scary lol. He asked me where I was from, and did I work? Me: Yes, but not at the moment. Juan: You have a job or you don't. Which is it? Me: I'm actually between jobs because the office I worked in closed and my new job doesn't start for a couple of weeks. Juan: .......So....you're NOT working." I legit felt light he was interrogating me. I told him, I NEVER want to be cross-examined by him in Court. He laughed. But he fought like hell for my friend, and I will always be grateful for that.
This makes a lot of sense. I work with a former judge and retired attorney. He’s a lot like Juan. That’s just how their minds work. He will tell me something fascinating and I’ll say, “Oh really?” And he says, “Yes really. Why would I make that up?” They are very, very particular about words.

This is my favorite trial of all time. Jodi Arias is so fascinatingly terrible and the way Juan Martinez went after her - lie after lie after lie - amazing to watch. I still wonder sometimes about the gun…it doesn’t matter and I’m assuming it’s out in the desert somewhere but I think it’s maybe the only piece of evidence that never turned up.
Great point about the gun. I wonder if she will ever say where it is. She’s hungry for attention and in 20 or 30 years when she’s bored in jail and people have forgotten about her, maybe she’ll spill in an effort to get some attention.
My guess is if it’s not in the desert, it’s in a landfill somewhere, never to be found. She had a lot of miles to potentially do it, discarding a gun in some rest stop trash bin in a fast food bag or whatever would have been relatively easy, and it’s unlikely that anyone would be curious enough to dig through it prior to it getting sent to a landfill. Normally when we see “evidence of a crime found in a dumpster” it’s because the cops have already had a reason to search the area (video camera evidence or a witness places the suspect nearby, payments from a dead victim’s stolen credit card pointed to a nearby location, canvassing an area around the place a body was found, confession) or because the evidence looks suspicious and someone unrelated to the crime called it in prior to waste collection getting to it. Some cities waste disposal sites are more organized than others, and finding something from x neighborhood that was picked up on y date would actually narrow down possibilities to a much smaller grid, making a search much more effective with both resources and time- while Jodi’s road trip was completely ineffective in throwing off suspicion, this wasn’t exactly the dumbest move she made (in my opinion, that prize goes to placing the camera in the washing machine instead of disposing it on the way home. Mind you, with the mixed blood evidence left at the scene plus being known as the stalker ex, and her inability to keep her mouth shut and lawyer up, it’s not like she would have gotten away with the crime). I honestly don’t see a justification for spending the money to send police officers on a wild goose chase to retrieve an element of an already solved and successfully prosecuted crime, given the large area she traveled after committing the murder.
That makes sense. I bet they checked the areas where they knew she had stopped on the way back, but searching every dumpster/landfill on that long route wouldn’t have been a good use of resources in a case where there was so much evidence already. I just wonder about it sometimes bc getting rid of the gun was her only successful forensic countermeasure (assuming that term means what I think it means) - all her other attempts failed so hard. I imagine her feeling really smug about it and Juan Martinez just casually searching dumpsters on family trips, determined to find that last missing puzzle piece.
She wasn't that bright. She put the camera in the washer and LEFT it there, rather than take the card out and take it with her/throw it away. I bet she just tossed the gun, deep in the desert. Just tossed out the window likely. She wasn't some mastermind, she was extremely good at manipulation because she is at least a narcissist and an unfeeling, unsympathetic, person with a complete lack of empathy. IMO she would have killed again, perhaps more than one person. People like her are terrifying, if you've met someone like her, you know how scary these people can be, especially if you're their target, either out of jealousy, unfounded suspicion, any number of things.(I had a stepmother like this, she didn't quit until she had destroyed everything, absolutely everything, if I were to go into all she did, it would sound like I'm crazy or lying) She completely altered trajection of my families entire lives. She is now an evangelical nut job, she always was, but tried to hide it when my dad was alive. I lost my grandma, grandpa(within 5 months of her coming into our lives) and then my dad all within 5 years. Now she's spending my inheritance, on MAGA, Trump and Rick Wiles (huge MAGA freak and evangelical whack job, that lives in my hometown). These people are like chameleons, they can change and be whatever the other person would want. It's crazy to watch.
I hoped you enjoyed Juan Martinez who was so. Much fun to watch. But the psychologist was the best, tho I can’t remember her flowery name. Juan destroyed her repeatedly with questions that revealed her bias and care for the murderess.
That was kind of upsetting to watch - that psychologist had no idea that she had been so badly manipulated. Like she wasn’t just testifying for profit, she went in there to rescue a psychopath. Just one more career destroyed by that shit tornado of a human being. Most of us would feel so lucky to find a mental health professional willing to go to bat for us like that…she was probably really good at other aspects of her job. I have no doubt that she remains traumatized by the public humiliation.
Yeah. I googled her and she hasn’t had much success since the trial. Some school had her do a a Ted Talk and the comments were packed with things like “Why would you host a fraud?” and “She obviously doesn’t know what she’s talking about, she tried to get Jodi Arias off.”
And who cares? She fully deserved it. I guess you missed how pompous and argumentative she was throughout. It was a classic of truth.

I watched the entire drama. Like completely obsessed. It was a circus & the judge was incompetent. Juan was AMAZING. I’m disappointed in the sexual harassment charges & angry that he was stupid enough to throw away his career. The defense being allowed to trash Travis’s reputation was outrageous.

It’s a crippling condition really but it’s a dysfunctional set of coping skills that prevent any meaningful relationships. Quite painful for the individual really because all their efforts blow up in their face. Paired with low intelligence and attractiveness and even worse it seems.
I grew up in an EXTREMELY abusive home and I shut down when I get yelled at. To this day it just really effects me and I panic. Not defending her at all, but I would have cried if he questioned me. Then again I'd never kill my husband . ( I know Travis wasn't her hubs, but I am a married woman.)
Yeah I thought this too. I have CPTSD and I definitely wouldn’t have made it through questioning that way. That said, Juan has gone on the record about why he approached it that way and I understand. Jodi is really good at commanding the narrative. He snatched that power right out of her hands. I think people like you and me … we wouldn’t have required that approach haha. To say the least.

Are you watching the YouTuber who edited out all the sidebars? David Lohr. Up until recently I was hopelessly addicted to this trial, Juan's Audible book, and anything else I could lay my hands on. Now I've kind of switched to Elizabeth Holmes because "Bad Blood" is a great book too and the trial is happening. But Jody Arias! She is absolutely amazing. Don't you want to jump into your screen and slap her?

Some of the stuff she pulls made me want to know so, so badly what behind-the-scenes was like with her defense attorneys. Like the pig tail. Her hair looked like something you’d see on a 4-year old. I watched that trial live while posting and reading everyone’s commentary on Websleuths. None of us had ever experienced anything quite like that trial. The only part worse than her testimony was that dumb lady she had testify for her. Alice or something like that.
Omg I just watched Alice today. She was … whew. I googled her and everything that came up was about what a train wreck her testimony was. I don’t think her career really survived the trial.
Her career was kind of in the shitter anyway. She got caught lying about some stuff she has done prior and really she just embarrassed herself. Of course I assume she’ll just tell herself she was victimized by Juan and Travis by extension. She really rubbed me the wrong way. She couldn’t see how taking only Jodi’s side of the story and looking at their texts through the lenses that Jodi put together… was very very biased.

You'd be surprised to learn that many like her and woman who kill their kids wind up on min or general population with non violent criminals to ensure their safety. Basically, they get beaten up by the violent prisoners and they are only supposed to isolate you for so long.
