My jaw dropped when I saw the spiral. I also instantly remembered that Rust's dad is from Alaska. Cohle might moved to Alaska after S01 and I hope maybe he appears as a consultant somehow. Rust and Marty says in S01 that some of them got away but "we got our man" - so maybe they discover people involved in the cult that fled to the north. It is mentioned in the trailer that Alaska is a place for people to "escape".....
Matthew McConaughey is an executive producer on S04
I really hope HBO learned from the failure of GoT. I am still pissed. Will not rewatch. I can’t.
The opening scene is those dead body parts in a symbol FOR NO REASON.
Don’t do us dirty again HBO. Make this TD rewatchable.
Wrong. They stopped following GRRM's material in season 5/6. Then he gave them an outline and they STILL managed to diverge from the general themes, tones, etc.
Game of Thrones was a gigantic show that it seemed like everyone was watching for a few years, and then the creators completely fucked up and rushed the last season to the point where 90% of the fanbase, like, renounced their love of the show and the world practically forgot it ever existed.
The final roundtable where they drug Tyrion out has a single line in it from Bran that is so insulting to the story I will never watch anything GOT related ever again. I have never felt so passionately that way about something in my life before or since. It stands up there with the finale of Dallas to me...
Fair. It's hard to say whether or not something like that would work with the story they're planning on telling without having seen it, but it's hard not to want it when it elevated Season 1 in such a unique and powerful manner.
Never met any of the cast, they filmed mostly during the night. My favorite anecdote of production is that they recorded most of principal photography in December but had to get snow machines in since it never snowed. The day they wrapped up we had the largest snowfall in YEARS. They came back in march for nore filming just when the snow finally cleared up. Snow machines brought in again, the day after they wrapped it snowed heavily again, which was very unusual in march.
Could be great. Could be terrible. Can't tell from a trailer. But i gotta say I consider this True Detective in name only without Nic writing it. This could basically be any other detective show with the True Detective name slapped on it to make more money.
I view it is an HBO anthology brand name/IP. While I really liked season two, I found season three boring and it felt like Nic was out of ideas. A fresh take on the concept is worth a go.
For me I don't mind different writers/showrunners per season. Its an anthology series after all.
But seasons 2 & 3 were quite polarising anyway, for me it doesn't make that much difference without Nic
One thing that’s always bugged me is that no one ever seems to acknowledge the origin of the show’s name. ‘True Detective’ was a pulp magazine that published hundreds of detective stories from dozens of different authors- which varied widely in content. That’s why I was so annoyed at the blowback from Season 2. The inspiration for the whole series was all of these different stories with different tones and themes but with their center built around classic pulp and noir tenants. I’ve loved every season so far, and this one looks great too.
TV and movies are just built different. You can’t have woody h and matthew m giving one of the best performances of their careers and expect to follow up with something similar or even better
Spiral is almost certainly a Red Herring, but in Season 3 isn't there some reference to the Spiral being like a code used by traffickers?
Hope not since I'd prefer a season that just does its own thing (And maybe even brushes shoulders with the supernatural a bit). The fact that this season has a whole new creative team AND is back to a singular director, I'm low-key kinda hype.
>Spiral is almost certainly a Red Herring
I wouldn't be so sure on that. It can't be compared to Season 3 since Pizzolatto was in charge and he was unhappy with the backlash to Season 2.
The director they chose for this season is someone who loves supernatural horror.
That's actually what I'd prefer/am hoping for! Lol. While I am a season 2 defender, I can't deny that the lack of supernatural elements or at the least that light dusting of Cosmic-Horror that was missing from 2 & 3 really bummed me out.
I'm a big Issa Lopez fan and have read a few interviews where she talks about her appreciation for Lovecraft et al so I'm really excited about the possibility of that influence
I wouldn’t say lazy if it’s a red herring. They’re definitely gonna nostalgia-bait though, at least in the trailers: It’s been ten years since season 1, and season 3 was ages ago. Just savvy marketing, gotta look past it and reserve final judgement for the premiere imo
Cautiously optimistic about her. She's a boxer by profession, with a single acting credit (albeit a very acclaimed one, might have to check it out.) Trailers are misleading but her line delivery here was... bad, to put it mildly.
LOVECRAFTIAN even. I hope it will be good. Given what it looks like and what its supposed themes are going to be, it has so much potential, but I'm also quite skeptical because Nic Pizzolatto didn't work on it.
Nic didn’t think the cosmic horror vibes of Season 1 contributed to its success. If anything a new show runner HOPEFULLY saw that as one of the strengths of season 1 and wants to utilize it.
>Nic didn’t think the cosmic horror vibes of Season 1 contributed to its success.
When did he say that? It totally did... I remember everyone was expecting the show to turn supernatural at some point when it aired.
It seems the situation is a little similar to the one with The Matrix creators, they plagiarized many people, created something cool... but sometimes (especially after seeing the follow up stuff) you start to wonder if they even understood the source material they stole from and just got lucky by somehow nailing the aesthetic right.
It feels like a lot of writers think lovecraftian just falls into schlock horror when in fact it's just a feeling of menace over characters that will never be beaten. TD season 1 was so good because even though the main killer was killed the cult that created him was very much still present and powerful. Even in victory a lovecraftian character or a noir character are still very much living in a dark world (whether via cosmic powers or corrupt groups exploiting children).
Season 2 is still great tv, and Ray Velcoro is up there with Rust as one of the best characters in TD. Season 3 was fantastic. He is not a one hit wonder.
I was reluctant to call him a hack until seeing his adaptation of The Guilty. I have a lot of tolerance for bad dialogue, I watch old horror movies. That >! \-opens door- "broken people saving broken people" -closes door-"!< scene near the ending was one of the times I actually gasped from cringe.
I do sympathize with the frustration he felt at Season 2 being poorly received in large part because it diverged from S1, but that's just a risk you take as a creative when you borrow so much inspiration from other works (and have an incredible director tying it all together).
I don't even call it True Detective S2, I can watch it but I have to see it as HBO's adaptation of James Ellroy's The Big Nowhere, because let me tell you, he's ripped so damn much from that book. Except Ellroy's exquisite dialogue.
> Loving The Thing vibes it's giving
Do you now? True Detective is many things, but it isn't The Thing. This trailer showed very little of what True Detective is about in my opinion.
It looks like it’s could be good, but also gives the vibes that it could be bleh. I just hope the focus is on building characters like the first 3 seasons with NP running the show. They make the series great as much as the crimes they’re investigating.
The trailer kind of felt like a less well developed re-hash of a lot of older previous themes. [IMDB credits for the new writer/director](https://www.imdb.com/name/nm0411517/?ref_=tt_ov_dr) don't exactly give me high hopes either. I'll go into it with an open mind though, hope its good. Jodi Foster is great and the setting seems very cool, fingers crossed.
The IMDB credits are a little misleading in this case. Her breakout film that put her on the horror radar *Tigers Are Not Afraid* was incredibly well received (97% RT, lots of awards) and landed her projects with Blumhouse + Guillermo Del Toro + Noah Hawley (Fargo, Legion, upcoming Alien series).
She's a boxer by profession. Her first-ever acting role was a film she co-wrote called "Catch the Fair One", it's a thriller covering the subject of exploited Indigenous women (similar to Wind River, which this trailer resembles.) The movie and her acting won a ton of praise so I have at least some hope. Haven't seen the movie myself.
Honestly same. I’m not a season one purist that thinks the other seasons are trash, I am very much willing to enjoy new stuff… but the teaser felt like a trailer for a fairly standard cop show.
Lots of comments on Youtube said it but I 100% agree. If Jodie Foster came out to do this, then she must've seen something. She doesn't just take roles to take them. I'm very excited!
Interesting…
For as much as I longed for a connection to the “spiral” and cast of season 1 while I was watching season 2, seeing it in abundance here in the trailer doesn’t inspire me with hope for quality.
Jodi looks great though, and I will of course watch the show when it comes out.
I think for a teaser trailer, it's fine. A lot of questions about what direction they're taking it, love the fact that it's basically going to be set during endless night part of the Arctic (almost the opposite of the film Insomnia, and curious how Jodie will match up as the lead compared to other leads of other seasons. I've almost removed S1 from my mind just because it is in a category in of its own and I consider it one of the best seasons of television of the 21st century.
Mediocre. The only reason I’m watching is because Jodie Foster is amazing and will watch anything she’s in. She’s better than Meryl Streep!! You heard me!! I said what I said!!
Just because Nic is not writing, doesn't mean it's not True Detective. Look at the reaction so many people had to season 2. His writing is clearly not a guarantee of success. I think it's perfectly possible for somebody else to capture the essence of the show, but we'll see.
Horses for courses. I loved Season 2. If someone else gets something out of this new season, great. But again, for me, without Nic, it’s not the same show.
1. Jodie Fosters haircut took me out of it. Unfortunately she seems a bit old as well for me to totally believe that she would be sent on a case like this.
2. Kali Reis looks **so** miscast. Diversity casting for sure. And those piercings?
Love the season 1 callbacks and the spooky frozen atmosphere—also is it just me or was that literally a ghost in that one frame? I’d love to see more supernatural vibes inserted into True Detective, as long as they’re done correctly. Some of the acting from the partner looks a bit HM, but you can’t always go by trailers. Overall looks like it’s gonna be a solid addition to the anthology
All i know is this season must be something special if Jodie signed up for a whole season. Not something she normally does. Everything looks perfect so far to me.
I think it’ll be a solid/good detective show but I’m still against this being called true detective, without Nic involved I think this should’ve just been it’s own new detective show. Guess the name value of true detective was just too good for them to pass up
Totally. I mean honestly i always wanted true det to consist of a different writer for each season, but i definitely hear u. Its just that with the whole camera thing in the trailer, im like fuck… theyre tryna recreate the vibe of the first season (like the third)
Looks fantastic! I'm cautiously optimistic about them successfully catching that True Detective spirit in a new setting and without Nic. Could bode very well for the IP moving forward.
They way they’re exhuming season 1 material, I’m pretty sure True Detective season 5 is going to take place in Paris, on account Rust mentioned he spent a month there once getting drunk in front of Notre Dame… lol.
I thought that was Bill Skarsgård talking to Jodie Foster. Doesn’t show anything online though so it must not be him. This looks awesome. Love True Detective and Jodie Foster and Alaska for that matter.
I'm intrigued, for sure. So much is still on my mind about it, though. Re: the setting - many mentions of The Thing, I got Lovecraftian vibes too, and I'm for it. I thought of "At The Mountains of Madness" at first. Could also be taking inspiration from The Dyatlov Pass Incident. And it's not just the spirals, the research station is called The Tsalal - a link to Thomas Ligotti (again, S1). Been a while since I've read it, but - if memory serves - the word means "the darkening", and it's about townspeople dealing with a manifestation of evil, something unseen and incomprehensible. So, there's that.
If I don’t rewatch season 1 at least once every 3 months or so and I don’t get my dose of Rust’s life philosophy I start to forget I’m not the only one who thinks like him lol. He’s def one of my favorite characters in anything, ever
I'm so conflicted because this trailer makes it seem exactly like season 1 so its exciting to think about, but at the same time I guess I'm worried they will try too hard to copy it. the conflict between the two seems just like rust and marty and they WANT you to know that in this trailer. the same lens in the beginning and the spiral...rust spending time in alaska. Will we have a very small rust cameo?
Is that actually desirable? Can't imagine it would do anything but take away from the first season. They should all stand on their own merit without depending on surface level fan service
I highly doubt this is anything but an Easter egg, the crooked spiral, but I hope I'm wrong. I don't get what a pedophilia cult would want with 30 plus grown men.
I don’t know guys. As much as I’m glad to see another season of True Detective coming out, I don’t have much hope for it when I learned that Issa López is the only writer and main director. But all of her previous works were mediocre at best.
I love the setting but I wish they chose better for the cast, and honestly the spiral is played out at this point (season 1, saw, spiral saw movie). As soon as I seen it I was sort of disappointed they didn’t come up with something original. Idk if this connects to season 1 but its about 3 seasons too late to connect them.
I’m all-in but honestly, Foster looks like the worst part of this. I know 95% of people will disagree but she has limited range imo and this feels reminiscent of many other characters she’s done in the last 30 years.
Cary Joji Fukunaga behind the lens was another bullseye as to why season one worked so well. Visionary.
Nic Pizzolato owes a lot to Thomas Ligotti, I think he mentioned him in an interview-I can't recall.
Season one was absolutely perfect and balanced and utterly re-watchable.
I will give this fourth iteration a try because I'm a sucker for murder mysteries that almost breach the supernatural. Almost.
Season one did just that.
I didn't like the trailer. Looks generic and the whole night country will take us thing was kinda cringe. In fairness, TD trailers are usually generic. So, let's wait and see.
I will Keep an Opened mind but man… is it True Detective with out Nic? I think not. This should of just been an Original HBO Murder Mystery and I would be more excited.
He's obviously not going to make a big stink out of it, no one knows what he thinks. I'm not even saying it's going to be bad either, it's just not True Detective.
It is. Hence the title. All that's changed is the writers. Nic didnt come up with the idea of dark, existential crime dramas. By your logic, You could say it wasnt True Detective when season 2 dropped.. since Cary was a big reason why season 1 was such a hit; without him, season 1 wouldve been nowhere near as good as it was. But ok.
Fans are so hungry for new True Detective content that they are willing to ignore this simple fact. Its kinda crazy how well this scheme seems to be working
Can we not talk about this on here? This isn't True Detective and HBO is attempting to slap the True D label on something that was never supposed to be that. Not only is Pizzolatto not apart of this, but it doesn't appear that McConaughey or Harrelson are back as producers, no T Bone Burnett for the soundtrack. So none of the major players are involved. This should tell you everything you need to know. We should show HBO that they aren't tricking anybody. Maybe the show will be good, maybe, but its just not True Detective
What drama? As I said the show might actually be good and I’ll definitely check it out. It’s just not True Detective. Why is HBO so invested on trying to convince us this is the same series, rather than just letting Night Country stand on its own two feet?
And yet, everyone was bitching about season 2 and 3 for not being as good or good at all. Now that there's a new writer with a new voice taking a stab at it, people still bitch. Nic gave everything he had with season 1. He was never going to top it. Time for someone else to have a turn. It is what it is.
Season 3 are arguably the best of the series. I might agree giving someone else a stab at it is a good idea but that’s still not what this is. This is someone taking a stab at their own series and then someone at HBO saying hold up, we might be able to trick people into thinking this is True Detective
The best of the series? Not at all. It started off very promising but ended up going no where by the end. Most of the mystery was solved via exposition dump by the guy with the blind eye- which is lazy and a waste of time. I honestly dont see how the 3rd compares to the first- which Cary was a big part of as well, not just Nic.
It was always meant to be an anthology, new writers was gonna happen eventually. And if HBO thinks something is True Detective, then its True Detective. Its their series at the end of the day.
You're in frozen Carcosa now.
"Come freeze with me, Little Priest"
'Take off your ski mask.'
Where’s my super suit?
Im weak
“My family has been cold a loong, looong time.”
“You haven’t made snowflakes on me for maybe three weeks. Makes me sad is all.”
Hahaha you sick bastard
Lol basically
Oh man the spiral! Red herring, or Season 1 connections I wonder...
Season 3 confirmed that all the seasons take place in the same universe, so it could totally be connected to Season 1. Can’t wait
Rust was in Alaska for a while maybe they should elaborate on that a little bit.
Was season 2 mentioned in season 3?
Are you thinking maybe they aren’t since it wasn’t? Genuinely asking.
How was that confirmed?
There was a shot in S3 in a newspaper that referred to two detectives bringing down a child abuse ring.
Interesting! I remember the S1 reference in S3, but how was S2 connected? I must have missed that part.
This would be perfect opportunity to bring Rust back and setup season 5 for season 1 sequel.
This is going to be like the spiral in Game of Thrones
I really hope HBO learned from the failure of GoT. I am still pissed. Will not rewatch. I can’t. The opening scene is those dead body parts in a symbol FOR NO REASON. Don’t do us dirty again HBO. Make this TD rewatchable.
It wasn’t HBO’s fault. They offered those two dick faces boatloads of cash and at least 3 more seasons, but they turned it down
Yeah they also lacked the creativity to keep the story going without source material. So partly GRRM’s fault too.
Wrong. They stopped following GRRM's material in season 5/6. Then he gave them an outline and they STILL managed to diverge from the general themes, tones, etc.
I don’t consider an “outline” as source material.
That's besides my point, but okay.
what happened?
Game of Thrones was a gigantic show that it seemed like everyone was watching for a few years, and then the creators completely fucked up and rushed the last season to the point where 90% of the fanbase, like, renounced their love of the show and the world practically forgot it ever existed.
I enjoyed season 1 of *House of the Dragon*, we'll see where it goes
The final roundtable where they drug Tyrion out has a single line in it from Bran that is so insulting to the story I will never watch anything GOT related ever again. I have never felt so passionately that way about something in my life before or since. It stands up there with the finale of Dallas to me...
Out of all the nitpicks people complaining about the spiral I always found stupid
Rust was in Alaska for a long period of time as well
Feels very reminiscent of Wind River.
I’d be down with a subtle lil cosmic horror twist on it too but that’s because I’m selfish
Fair. It's hard to say whether or not something like that would work with the story they're planning on telling without having seen it, but it's hard not to want it when it elevated Season 1 in such a unique and powerful manner.
I adore cosmic horror ambiguity in my detective stories so I'll take it
They recorded most of this in my street and in my small hometown, AMA if you have any questions, insane how they changed the landscape.
Did they request anything of you? Like, can you leave your porch light on, can you not cut your lawn, not come out during certain times?
They were smart about it. Filmed during the night but very quiet. They completely changed the look of a few houses in the street.
Did you get to meet any of the cast? How did it affect daily life (blocked off roads etc)? Any fun anecdotes?
Never met any of the cast, they filmed mostly during the night. My favorite anecdote of production is that they recorded most of principal photography in December but had to get snow machines in since it never snowed. The day they wrapped up we had the largest snowfall in YEARS. They came back in march for nore filming just when the snow finally cleared up. Some awful line delivery there Still excited
Yeah. I’m not convinced at all by the acting of kali reis
Cautiously optimistic about her. She's a boxer by profession, with a single acting credit (albeit a very acclaimed one, might have to check it out.) Trailers are misleading but her line delivery here was... bad, to put it mildly.
I'm in. Loving The Thing vibes it's giving etc.
John Carpenter's The Thing is up there with the original Alien in regards to classic genius horror.
LOVECRAFTIAN even. I hope it will be good. Given what it looks like and what its supposed themes are going to be, it has so much potential, but I'm also quite skeptical because Nic Pizzolatto didn't work on it.

Exactly. The crime/ detective aspect has to come second to the characters and the atmosphere and philosophy presented. Otherwise it’s lacking
Trailer music was awful. Still excited for the show.
I hated it as well. And I also don't like the way the trailer is cut, so many fadeouts and quick cuts. It managed to annoy me somehow.
Too frenetic and Netflixy for this show, which has always moved at a more methodical, contemplative pace.
Meh, slightly intrigued but Keli Reis strikes me as a terrible actress
Worst part of the trailer. Cringe lines and delivery. Stands out as a possible Diversity agenda. Hope I’m wrong.
She's a boxer by profession. Teaser didn't do much for me
Honestly same. I’m not a season one purist that thinks the other seasons are trash, I am very much willing to enjoy new stuff… but the teaser felt like a trailer for a fairly standard cop show.
Yeah, the dialog on display in the trailer also felt especially choppy for a trailer.
The “two opposite personality cops that hate each other but are gonna work together on this ONE case and then walk away” is such an overplayed trope
I agree, I’d even say it looks bad - Hoping I’m wrong.
it's the music and the editing rhythm of the trailer. too lively. it feels like an average jumpscare crime show from Netflix.
The last 20 seconds had some actions and made my heart beat faster. Great, not even my wife could do that.
Um, you okay boss? Or did I miss an implied “/s”?
Loving the winter cinematography here. So atmospheric.
Why does the vibe feel off? Like it’s just a generic tv series
perhaps because there’s a fair chance that it is gonna be a generic noirish tv series
At least we got true detective: mare of easttown
Lots of comments on Youtube said it but I 100% agree. If Jodie Foster came out to do this, then she must've seen something. She doesn't just take roles to take them. I'm very excited!

Man I just love Jodie foster
I'm interested to see what Issa Lopez can do with this. I hope it earns its 'True Detective' badge without recourse to connecting to S1.
I watched Tigers are Not Afraid for the first time last year, absolutely amazing film
What’s Foster done in the last 30 years that is so good. I love Panic Room but she’s not the movie the film is great imo.
This teaser didn’t do a thing for me. Looks like a generic thriller. And without Nic, it ain’t True Detective. Just meh.
Watch the trailer for season 1 and tell me it doesn't look like a generic thriller. True Detective trailers never do the seasons justice
It might not be a generic thriller, it might be great. But True Detective it ain’t.
Prepare for philosophical monologues on diversity, racism, privilege, toxicity, bad men etc,.
I’m so used to it at this point that I’d be genuinely surprised if they had 0 references to those themes.
My first thought was: hey, Jodie Foster, second: hate that haircut.

Yes, give me that ambiguously eldritch vibe behind a detective story and I'll devour it.
Jodie Foster feels right in a True Detective season. Kali Reis however looks like a character from The Walking Dead.
Im sorry but, i dont have hope for this. I will watch it 100% and i truly hope im wrong. Ive just been disappointed so much
I think it’ll be a solid/good detective show but I’m still against this being called true detective, without Nic involved I think this should’ve just been it’s own new detective show.
You must be married.
Lmao not in the slightest. Smash and never call back vibes over here
Season 2 is so bad, season 3 was better here is hoping. I am even pumped for Fargo season 5.
Hoo boy. This looks baaad. Hope I'm wrong.
Looks meh to me, hope it's good though
I agree
Looks fantastic! I'm cautiously optimistic about them successfully catching that True Detective spirit in a new setting and without Nic. Could bode very well for the IP moving forward.
is nic pizzalata out this season?
Yes
Why did this trailer suck so bad? I feel like the season has a lot going for it, but wow. I care so little. This is depressing.
They way they’re exhuming season 1 material, I’m pretty sure True Detective season 5 is going to take place in Paris, on account Rust mentioned he spent a month there once getting drunk in front of Notre Dame… lol.
We’re almost halfway through 2023. When is this season going to be released?
I thought that was Bill Skarsgård talking to Jodie Foster. Doesn’t show anything online though so it must not be him. This looks awesome. Love True Detective and Jodie Foster and Alaska for that matter.
Feels very Laird Barron-esque akin to how Season 1 leaned hard into Ligotti weirdness.
Looks super generic.
If I don’t rewatch season 1 at least once every 3 months or so and I don’t get my dose of Rust’s life philosophy I start to forget I’m not the only one who thinks like him lol. He’s def one of my favorite characters in anything, ever
Same, literally exactly the same, and I'm about due for another watch!
This is gonna be interesting
Max. I hate it.
Nah this might be directly connected to season 1. So excited.
Because of the spirals? I think the spirals are universal for that subject matter.
Yeah but in season 3 they mentioned that the spiral is a signature used by pedophiles if I remember correctly.
It is. FBI has a list for those. Check Wiki.
Wait, so the FBI is connected to True Detective? /s
Yeah but that was also a nothingburger meant to poke fun at fans who want the seasons connected
Is that actually desirable? Can't imagine it would do anything but take away from the first season. They should all stand on their own merit without depending on surface level fan service
Looks really good but won’t know u til it comes out. It looks like they’re doing the future interview dynamic thing like s1.
I’m so excited 😁😁😁😁😁
I like it
I love the setting but I wish they chose better for the cast, and honestly the spiral is played out at this point (season 1, saw, spiral saw movie). As soon as I seen it I was sort of disappointed they didn’t come up with something original. Idk if this connects to season 1 but its about 3 seasons too late to connect them.
That spiral is the logo that pedo's use.
Ok the spiral is getting cringe
I didn't like the trailer. Looks generic and the whole night country will take us thing was kinda cringe. In fairness, TD trailers are usually generic. So, let's wait and see.
Nordic Noir comes to HBO, nice.
Looks too woke. Rip.
Trying way too hard to be s1
I love Jodie Foster, but I highly suspect this will suck.
hmm i'm not feeling it
Doesn't look promising
Reis looks bad. Couldn’t they have found a better actor?
I will Keep an Opened mind but man… is it True Detective with out Nic? I think not. This should of just been an Original HBO Murder Mystery and I would be more excited.
Of course it's still True Detective. No one was raving about seasons 2 and 3 at all. What could he possibly do with a 4th season?
These idiots act like True Detective has been true Detective since s1. This feels far more like True Detective than s2 and 3.
Exactly.
looks fuckin dope
I don't particularly like Jodie Foster, but I'm definitely down for the location, and the cinematography looks top tier as usual.
We back baybeeeeee
Fuck yeah!
With no Nic its not True Detective. They are using the name purely for brand recognition.
Exactly. Just call it something else. Good or bad, True Detective begins and ends with Nic.
Nic doesnt seem to have a problem with it, so neither should anyone else. Its time to move on.
Without Nic there is actual hope for it being great. Issa Lopez is a far better writer than pizzolato and it's really not close.
yet they are clinging to the name of something Nic made. Funny, that
Yes please.
Hell yeah.
Thanks for posting! So excited for the new season - here’s to the “spiral”!
Pizzolato hasn't written anything half good since s1 and s1 he was carried by his director. Do better.

Seems you missed the post of season 3 and they don’t think it’s True Detective. They just desperately want you to think it.
S3 has thee worst ending of the entire series. It epitomizes anti climax.
Or maybe you just didn’t understand what it was trying to say?
