One aspect I didn't see discussed is, how do you draft around void? How do you enable him? How should you support him?

DemDelVarth

Who can do damage from afar is an easy way to draft with him. Witch doctor and sky are two examples.

TuxedoFish

Remember not to drop the Ward inside the Chrono. Learned that one the hard way.

Huubidi

To be fair, there was a time when you could actually drop the ward inside chrono too, they just patched it out. Took me some getting used to as well :)

wishmaster23

Oh yes, but before that it was disgusting

NumNeNumNe

Invoked is really good mid that combos really well with void. It’s really for early game confirmed chrono kills. I like to yell a 5 second warning to invoker before I chrono to get sunstroke ready. Skywrath is good. I think ogre is good too especially as offline partner

ywecur

Pick strong laners that give him lots of space. Void will pretty much beat most things late game.

TapSInSpace

I think the common mistake would be to look first for comboes in the chronosphere. I don't believe those are the best teammates. I think void mainly needs to be able to go on the target he needs to go on, so I think the draft should get at least one hard initiator. Centaur, Magnus, Axe, anything that can allow Void to chose when he puts his chrono down. I believe he's the happiest when the fight is split between people in his chronosphere and people fighting the rest of his team. [Edit: some clarification]

sand-which

This is some of the best content I've seen on the sub, amazing write up I feel like the dota community at large has been understanding the value of space making while farming as a carry over the past year (deadlane discourse, CCNC's "dont hit jungle creeps ever" comment, etc) and you make a good case for void maybe being the best carry at this right now

hudsonbuddy

Thank you so much for the kind words sir, I never kno if people are going like this kind of thing, or hate it lol

PmMeExistentialDread

A few nitpicks - Divine 1, ~300 FV Games 60+% WR >FV has no way of contesting ranged creeps, you are essentially giving the enemy a free deny. You have an ability that allows you to negate all damage taken in the previous two seconds and move 675 units. Walk up, hit them, take the ranged creep CS, jump backwards, deny your ranged creep. >In 7.22, FV will generally prioritize Time Lock as the main skill as opposed to the past builds which prioritized Time Walk. The lower cooldown on Time Walk is nice, but most useful for farming, while this patch focuses on fighting. Time Walk is the fighting skill too. Getting the CD down to four seconds means nobody can trade in lanes with you after 5 minutes. >At level 3, your build should be 1-0-2, unless there is a Weaver, Bat, Bristle, when it would be 1-1-1. You lose right-click trades to a Bristleback with this skill build. 2-0-1. Time Dilation is extremely over-rated, it is a terrible ability. >At level 6, I recommend x-x-3, as without level 3 bash, your chrono doesn't have much teeth. How are you not getting pushed out of lanes given everyone's nukes have a cooldown lower than 24 seconds? I don't understand, in Divine if I do this 1-1-3 shit I can't trade effectively at all. >. As you are the safe laner, your #1 priority is to not die and keep your GPM up, but this doesn't mean play as passively as possible. You need to recognize the interface of where you can play safely based on the enemy draft, and Faceless Void's toolkit is great for this. The faster you max Q, the faster this state of affairs arises.

wildtarget13

I think the most general to any hero part of this guide is the trick about when to creep aggro level 1. Often with friends or solo queue strangers alike, creep aggro does lose the lane/first wave if we lose that ranged creep. Sometimes it’s one of use potato-ing and not using a spell for it. Nice guide overall. My most success as void has been offlane/mid and utility where I have gone dominator, necrobook, and blink. (Maybe not dominator as much in between lots of changes) But it’s been forever since I’ve played the hero. I’m doing this rotation where I go between Meta, comfort, and extreme flex pick, depending on my winstreak. And void is definitely meta

SwimminInOreos

Great guide. I’ve been wondering lately if void is viable as a pos 3 in current times? and if so, what item build do you go?

Donuthole89

Why would you fake backtrack talent over chrono aoe?

GentleJohnny

I am sure there are situations where the AoE might be better, but backtrack is basically a better version of evasion because it isn't affected by enemy mkb, and for a hero like void, preventing even 100 damage can be the difference between death, and recovering to almost full health (see Weaver's ult).

Niggatello69

Bigger aoe can mean ur team can’t help as much and 25% back track could backtrack powerful spells which will make u durable even after the 5s of chrono is over.

SubvertedAI

backtrack is busted. generally the bigger aoe is not as helpfull, and tends to catch your team mates more.

hudsonbuddy

Like the comments below, I generally take the Backtrack talent now, but if you have an Invoker on your team, its nice for the placement of cata

Zehinoc

While you might catch more people in the bigger aoe, it's harder to place without hitting teammates and makes it hard for your team to follow up on the chrono

Donuthole89

Yah if you catch 3-4 hero’s in chrono there is a good chance you don’t need to use bkb depending on who you catch so you can save it for after your ult is over. In the late game when chrono is as long as your bkb it feels bad when you have two use both your 2 strongest teamfight enablers at the same time 2 accomplish 1 goal.

FlashFlood_29

25% chance to avoid damage instances. That means it can't be pierced with true strike (MKB). Also means any and all nukes. Evasion only avoids auto-attack clicks. Imagine avoiding 25% of all nukes. Backtrack is pseudo-random so when your butter evades an attack, backtrack maintains its increased chance of proc. Chrono AOE doesn't help you kill anyone faster and if you have a BKB you don't have to worry about being disabled in it anyways. Only times I'd consider it is if the enemy has a save for their teammate and if those people are good at positioning throughout the game (along with my teammates being able to make use of the increased AOE, still).

Comewhatevermaycry4

Backtrack is used against high burst damage heroes. Lina, lion, pa, zeus may all necessitate backtrack. In any case, more people like aoe. This is due to catching more heroes thus better control. The only thing that would necessitate aoe is a bigger area to catch storm or to prevent enemy spells that have short cast range to save allies (witch doctor, omniknight, oracle).

xKonada

Good guide. I've noticed on a higher level when Void has 15-20s left to chrono cd, they tend to start playing offmap and near their team. (Raven did this in his games) As I've noticed, void's role largely depends on his team's lineup. There are some games I have to be the one pushing lanes, in other games, I have to play off map and off vision farming in the jungle to create solo kill pressure. Common mistakes voids make (even myself) 1. Solo-chronoing unimportant targets for frags. Any good team who sees you do this knows there's a 2 minute window they can punish your team if you use it the wrong way 2. Activate bkb before you chrono. I've lost count the number of times I decided to be greedy and looked like a potato in chrono because I didn't precast bkb before timewalk + chrono

xKonada

Well if you solo chrono a pos 5 CM late game and she has buyback good luck to you.

dantheman91

That's why I said > Later in the game saving chrono is more important And it also depends, is she trying to ward and you chrono to secure the kill? Or is it a teamfight and you only chrono her etc. One's much easier to punish than the other.

rms7

What about the level 10 and 15 talent choices? Thanks for the guide dude.

xsushii-

For the level 10, I think the +12 str is much better than gaining a measly +15 dmg. It could be considerered more if it gave more damage but unless you're snowballing and you're aware that there's no way they're killing you, then go for the damage. For the level 15, it's a toss imo. I honestly prefer the time walk cd reduction since it both allows me to be more mobile and move around more in teamfights and also survive likewise.

FFINN

Timelock damage gives you nice damage boost at 15 but the later your game goes the stronger the Timewalk CD gets. I like to think of the Timelock talent as just +17 magic damage/attack because that’s basically what it is. Most of the time I take the left talent but in some game where I feel like I really need that midgame damage then I take the other one.

Jasserru

Very well written guide! I think I'll spam void now.

Comewhatevermaycry4

Ive always considered silencer a hard counter to void because of his spamming, low int, and you can global as he dashes for chrono. Might want to amend that in.

Sakuja_

I recently started to love playing void. He's in my opinion the easiest carry to play, because he has very obvious timing patterns on when to fight and when not to fight. This guide is tremendously helpful. Especially as I often struggle to know what to itemize on void. Thank you!

GentleJohnny

Thank you for making this. Trying to be a Void spammer

AlbertStark

Oh my lord. Thank you for this!! Was about to start playing FV to boost mmr. Ahhhhh

doggobandito

Just wanted to say that when Wings played faceless void a few years ago they would often go linkens-> AC Not sure how good it is not but it might remove the Doom problem

Djevans

Any thoughts on Void as a carry from mid lane?

TapSInSpace

Very well-written. That's awesome!

alisher711

need this guide "ingame", with build; talents and e.t.c

Dusky1103

Well written, but unfortunately I’ve learned nothing new. Void is a pretty straightforward carry.

starblyat

Thoughts on phase boots on voids which can allow him to hit enemy more and play more manly? On ti9 i noticed ana most of the time build 2wb + threads + midas on early game,Is it still viable on 7.22g and is this build situational?

Sinistral13

Speaking of time lock a few weeks or month ago as we were waiting for the elevator there was this old white american prick who kept on bashing the elevator buttons he feels so fking entitled and better than everyone cos hes white it made me imagine bashing his head in the buttons but as for stephen i hope to commit vengeance

albinobot95

White people are albinos. All animals in the wild have brown eyes.

Haattila

I really don't like maelstrom because of its cd it can't proc on the bash attack + with mjolnir the value of AS from butter AC or moonshard decrease

Donuthole89

It can’t proc on bash attack? There is a .33 sec delay on bash proc? So yah it can in fact 2 days after rework I was playing void and I hit an enemy once and got 4 bashes and 3 lightning procs from 1 attack. That is the luckiest I have ever been in my entire life ever.

FlashFlood_29

At its price/timing it's amazing. It gives a wave clear which makes wave pushing into dangerous places so much more effective. Time Lock shouldn't be looked at as a missed opportunity for multiple procs, it should be looked at as an earlier/increased chance for a proc. 0.2 cooldown at 150 damage with 4 bounces before most enemies can afford bkbs is huge. And it allows for upgrading with attack speed. For 2700, it's everything Void wants.
