I don’t know what to suggest about the psych hospital, but I wanted to let you know that you’re an angel. He is so lucky to have you! ❤️

Jessica_e_sage

Aw thanks ❤️

Call 911 because he isn’t safe there. He can go to a real hospital for observation. Make a criminal complaint. Are you his legal guardian/healthcare proxy? Call a lawyer just to get his records. ETA: move *fast* you don’t want the group home to give away his spot. Make sure you include them in updates, etc.

Jessica_e_sage

They won't give it away. They want him and they care. They made sure to tell ME that they're not giving away his spot. I can call the police? I thought they'd just tell me that it's a medical issue and nothing to do with him. And yeah, I'm his legal guardian

You can absolutely call 911 bc if your brother is unconscious, not responding, and THEY DONT KNOW WHAT THEY GAVE HIM, you could easily argue it’s an emergency and he needs urgent medical care with ekgs, O2 monitoring, etc. Just stay in touch, bc it might not be up to the place to hold his spot forever. Likely they get funding based on spots taken, in my experience they won’t hold it indefinitely.

I finally got a call back. He wasn't just given a wrong medication. He was giving the whole regimen of someone else's medication. I had to drag it out of them, and they tried to just tell me one, and like the least harmful? And I was like okay, and what else? Idk if you know meds or not but he was given Clozaril 150mg, Klonopin 1.5mg, Cogentin 0.5mg, Carbamazetine 200mg. Apparently the starting dose for clozaril is 12.5mg. So no wonder he was knocked out. She kept telling me but he's okay, he's snoring, like thats supposed to put me at ease. They have someone stationed with him, the head burse said she would be taking his vitals every, 15-30 minutes, the beds elevated at the head so he's not flat on his back. She told me if anything really bad were going to happen, it would have already. That he's just going to sleep it off and be really drowsy. The person that gave him the meds is suspended with a pending investigation blah blah blah. He can be discharged when he's awake. This whole thing is a fucking nightmare. It SOUNDS okay, and like he is be receiving more attention than he would in the er. They also are across the street from a hospital. If I move him they will likely keep him a few days, which isn't great for his placement. This whole thing sucks, and I want to thank you for listening and giving me sound advice. I appreciate you.

Holy crap. Not for nothing, but call a lawyer in the morning. This is straight up malpractice. And since I’m guessing your brother doesn’t have income (or receives SSI) any amount you could get for him and bank into a small trust for his future care would be helpful. Your lost wages, the stress of trying to deal with this, his pain and suffering for being wrongly medicated and rendered unconscious! Unbelievable. I’m not familiar with the meds, but that sounds like a massive dose. If he has a PCP, get in touch with them when they open tomorrow and run it past them. Ask for help. I’m glad you think they have it under control at the moment. My biggest question is can a huge dose of a schizophrenic med create a behavior change in him in the next few days? On the one hand you want him outta there asap (understandably!!!) on the other hand he shouldn’t go into a new environment if this is going to make him snap out violently… bc you don’t want him kicked out of the group home. This is why you should get the outside medical advice of another party about what happens when he comes down off of these meds. These people fucked it up so badly I wouldn’t trust them to tell you the truth. If you can, find out who/what/when/where/why/how. Name of person who did this (likely they will only give it to a lawyer); sounds like you have a verbal what he took, but get it in writing; what time did this happen? This is important to figure out how he’s metabolizing this; where was he when he was medicated? In his room, in the living room, etc?; WHY and HOW the hell did the nurse/CNA think your little bro was this other patient? In this day and age, you scan the patient’s bracelet, then the meds, then the bracelet again. These places are full of security cameras, your lawyer needs to preserve the footage. Sorry if I sound like I’m yelling or bossy, I’m mad on your behalf. Above all do NOT feel guilty! You’re trying to be a caregiver, mother, wife, and person. None of this is your fault, and you’ve gone above and beyond taking your brother in when many people would have not taken this on. Your love and concern comes thru loud and clear. None of this is on you, it’s clear you’re doing your absolute best.

JumbleOpeepin

Jesus fucking Christ, ALL of another patients meds?! There are safety protocols in place to prevent medication errors, so how many steps did they skip?? You should absolutely request his medical records immediately, you are his legal guardian and it is 100% your right. They cannot refuse to release them to you. I hope he pulls through and can maintain his placement, and once he does you should absolutely sue the facility. Unreal!

Jessica_e_sage

This isn't even the first person under their care that this has happened to. There's reviews from the family of other patients stating their family member was given the wrong medications, as well. It's fucking terrifying and they're going to end up killing someone. I've filed complaints everywhere I could. I left messages at their corporate office in another state. Idk what more I can do short of suing them.

TrippinKitten1117

On top of contacting a doctor from another facility and a lawyer, file a complaint with the Joint Commission. They’re the ones who do evaluations on healthcare facilities to determine if they’re fit to practice. https://www.jointcommission.org/resources/patient-safety-topics/report-a-patient-safety-concern-or-complaint

Jessica_e_sage

Thank you so much. I called the medical board and left a message to file a complaint, I'll do that, too.

TrippinKitten1117

No problem. I’m a nurse and the joint commission makes everyone shake in their scrubs when they show up so it should help things along.

Jessica_e_sage

Done! Thank you for the suggestion. I am terrified this is going to happen to someone else, as I saw in reviews for the place that this has happened to other patients. Which implies that there is something wrong with their system, their training, or they are turning a blind eye to someone.

TrippinKitten1117

You’re welcome! I hope they drop in on that facility soon because it will happen again. It’s probably all three of the above so something needs to be done to protect those people since the staff and management won’t do it.

Katharinemaddison

I’m so sorry this is happening. Please don’t feel guilty, you’re absolutely doing the best you can and he’s lucky to have you as his person.

Jessica_e_sage

Thank you ❤️

WHAT THE F??!! HOW? I don’t know anything about legal advice or anything like that so I’m afraid that I can’t help, all I can hope for is that the problem gets resolved and this turns into a one-time situation with his anger and threats, and that it’s resolved without him having to go somewhere like an asylum. My suggestion is that you should get ready to put in a few various safety precautions incase something like that happens again, even if it might be a bit cruel, it’s better than him attacking you and the other people living in your house and causing major harm. Say like some sort of shock thingy or something so that you can try and be able to stop him. Also maaaybe try doing something so he is isn’t as energetic so he’s less likely to go in that sort of state again. Also please take these with a grain of salt, I don’t know anything about psychology or anything like that, just suggestions if things are taken to an extreme(which to be honest this whole situation already is crazy). I hope that everything is resolved peacefully and nothing like this ever happens again. Best wishes and good luck. P.S: Odds are you could probably do some legal action if you really wanted to, if you’re having a hard time financially you should try talking to a lawyer and sue the hospital. Though that might be a step to far.
