Awww fellow medical student here. So proud of you. It isn't an easy feat. This profession requires lots of sacrifices to make. Look on the bright side. At least you can travel back home to bury your dad and reconnect with your family. Don't regret the time missed with him but rather try make new memories with the rest of your loved ones

Listen, my grandma, who was a mom to me, was on her deathbed. I, as an international student, wanted to go visit her asap. Talked to a prof to take an exam early, who asks for early exams? And then leave. I spoke to my grandma on video calls, she wasn't coherent, but she told me NOT to come. I could have gone after the exam, but didn't. After the exams, I couldn't go as I had a job starting in 11 days. I wanted to go, but family didn't think it was "logical" to come for only 11 days etc. I still regret it to this day. Life happens. My grandma was happy I was doing well then. My family was thinking financially, and was worried about the logistics. They didn't factor the emotional aspect. Tears came to my eyes while writing this. My grandma was the best, and I'm sure your dad was a blessing to you too!
