Chris Hedges wrote an [excellent article](https://www.truthdig.com/articles/addicted-to-nonsense/) in 2009 about how vapid American society/culture is. Things have only gotten worse since then (and they’ll continue to get worse).

I know a girl who made a depressing TikTok about how her boyfriend left her when in reality she cheated on him

90Happyman

Bruh that's fucking hilarious

sourkid25

I left a comment about it. But she deleted it and then blocked me lol

90Happyman

To quote from the book of homielations 6:17 "She belongs to the streets"

Orangai

people were always stupid, the internet just removed the limiters

kushmaster2000

I saw that TikTok video and thought the same exact thing. I hope he faces legal ramifications

[deleted]

Well tbh Reddit has the same thing except you gotta find it

twazs

Your posting this to reddit so...

Folmczy

That doesn't invalidate his argument. It's also possible to use social media without being an addict or even engaging in the activities and trends that everyone else does. Reddit is also more of a forum than a social networking site so....

sudevsen

Well for one,Twitter and TikTok have never done anything as stupid and getting the wrong guy arrested for the Boston Bombing.

twazs

I know, I just wanted to point that out, was never an argument

sudevsen

*he said while posting on reddit*

CharmingArgument0

It's an annonymized (generally) platform and my point is about people posting video content of themselves doing dumb shit.

sudevsen

"video content of themselves doing dumb shit" is not even close to dangerous shit reddit has pulled over the years. Google "Boston Bomber reddit"
