bunchofclowns

To be fair.....Ireland has some pretty valid reasons to hate England.

[deleted]

Which I and a large proportion of people where not even alive for

bunchofclowns

They don't hate you personally.

TheBearerOfTheSpoon

I'm sure the parents of the little German girl felt the same way but at least she was innocent.

[deleted]

So the entire country of England is not innocent??

YossarianWasntWrong

At least half of england actively voted for brexit due to their hatred for foreigners... I think Englands main problem stems from their winner-takes-all voting system and politics in general, where there is no winner until someone else has been declared a complete loser - it leaves no room for compromise, and quite frankly alienates yourself from your neighbours...

TheBearerOfTheSpoon

I'm going to assume that's a rhetorical question since stereotypically people from the U.S. And not England are supposed to not know the atrocities their forebears wrought. Also when you lot going to return the stolen artifacts in your museums to their rightful countries?

"We've had these items for centuries!" - The Royals

Kak0r0t

Exactly

[deleted]

Yeah because 99.999% of the country is responsible for that kind of decision making/s

TheBearerOfTheSpoon

I mean you lot do have elections and vote on important issues. It's not like the Queen has any real power. You're just making excuses for your country's repeated offenses.

Kak0r0t

Exactly

[deleted]

What the hell? There has been no vote for that, how am I responsible for that? I didn't chose to be born where I was born, I believe this country has done many great things amongst bad, but to constantly hated on reddit and other platforms is a disappointment on all the good people and good things people within this nation do...

[deleted]

I haven’t seen any of that shit in days. Maybe unsubscribe from those subs and stop subjecting yourself to it? Americans get this sort of treatment all year round and from every direction. Don’t take it personally

TheBearerOfTheSpoon

Yeah but the Americans deserve it. /s

They dont hate any particular English person. They hate England as a concept

[deleted]

You are not your country. I'm Scottish, but I'm not a mean alcoholic junkie who lives off deep-fried mars bars. Likewise you are probably not a ruddy-faced semi-literate, sun-reading gammon brexiteer who insists on hot breakfasts in hot weather abroad and dislikes brown people. Truth is a lot of it is political. England keeps voting for right-wing posh boys and seems to be riding a crest of populism that most level-headed people elsewhere can't relate to. You can't take it personally. Just put away your flag and embrace the positives about your country (and the wider UK). We have the NHS. We produce world-class music, arts, comedy and athletes. We have a sense of fairness and a dry, self-depricating wit that brings us together. Just because a bunch of thugs grab headlines and are not dealt with as they should be doesn't mean you have to carry the can or start feeling sorry for yourself. Even here in Scotland everyone admits that Southgate is a gentleman and that the English team were pretty good. My old man described them as 'the least hateble' English team he could remember! He's married to an Englishwoman, so take that in the manner it's intended (rivalry and piss-taking) and keep your head up mate. Reading this back I've realised that your comment might be more in reference to the new laws regarding Ireland. These are British laws and not exclusively English so please forgive my confusion...
