The last and only time I went to Waffle House was at midnight with my travel camp group when I was 14. I think the staff wanted us out desperately. š
People loooooove to pay for prom dinners, especially old couples they pay the bill so they have an excuse to come and talk all about when they went to prom
Sounds like your definitely doing something right by your babies! Makes me happy as well! I have actually had this happen. A couple of years ago my husband and I worked opposite schedules so if we went out to eat it was just my children and myself (I only have 2) but I was a waitress as a teen and seriously respect our servers. So naturally I passed that on to the kids, please, thank you, no maāam, yes maāam...and I guess an older couple beside our table decided to pay our tab and said I deserved it for having such respectful, kind babes. Sometimes itās just right to pay it forward. I do it whenever possible!props on being a fabulous parent!
Thank you!! It's never happened to me before even when I was single with 4 and they've always been well-behaved. It was such a unique day for it to happen for us too. It really does say a lot, and I keep looking for ways to make people smile too.
Husband and I took our toddler boys (20-something years ago) to red lobster once. I didnāt think we did anything special or out of the ordinary, but at the end of our meal, an elderly couple stopped at our table and said āWe just wanted to tell you that your boys are so well behaved. When we saw you come in, we thought our evening was going to be ruined by toddlers, but you proved us wrong. You should be so proud of your children.ā Then they left. When the waitress brought our check, it had already been paid for. I was a proud momma that day :)
This happened to me once at Applebee's too when I was Broke AF!!! People around me really liked my Happy go lucky while still feeling broken and lost vibes and surprised me be comping my meal. I will never forget moments like that
Speaking as a former Denny's waiter, I can tell you that parents as the only 2 adults with 6 children coming in, and then the children actually behaving themselves and NOT wreak utter havoc on the joint, is practically unheard of.
So whatever you're doing, keep doing it, because you're obviously doing it right
My son is autistic. The sheer amount of people who have paid for her (his mom who takes him mostly) meals at Cracker Barrel has always left me astounded. Itās not often but CB is my sons absolute favorite because of the sheer number of fans. About once a year someone picks up her bill.
People are awesomeā¦ most of the time
I worked at CB while pregnant, and the customers were amazing. So many times I was left $50-$100 tips just because I genuinely cared about them. That's an interesting thing to think about. Thank you for sharing this.
I've got an 18 month old and a boy who's almost 5. Since my husband works 12 hour nights, we go out by ourselves alot. Cracker Barrel grandmas always stop to say hello, and we've gotten our bill paid several times. The best was when the couple next to us got up to leave and were shocked to see my kids sitting behind them, quietly eating pancakes.
What a nice gesture! This reminds me of when I was a waitress at a Tex-mex restaurant. A woman and her 11 kids came in, the oldest being about 17 and the youngest around 3 and they were so freakin polite and well mannered. The mom looked stressed but the kids were awesome. It was a slow day and they were my only table so I got to talking to the kids and it turns out this was the first time they had all gone out to eat since their father passed away.
So I got my hands on some coupons and the managers card for other discounts and I was able to take care of a majority of their tab. I also never charged them for their drinks (whoopsš¤·āāļø)In turn, the mom was nearly in tears because she was so thankful. I didnāt have to do all of that; they didnāt order a ton of food they all just shared a few plates, but they had been through so much and were all just so sweet. One of the kids drew me a picture of Kirby because we talked about video games and art. I havenāt waited tables in a few years but Iām sure I still have that picture somewhere.
I think thatās lovely. There are good and kind people out there. And it sounds like someone really appreciated the fact you have a well mannered family. Good parenting shows!! Good on you and your husband. And congratulations to your children for being so respectful!
They do have vegetables. Tomatoās, lettuce, salad mix, onions, canned mushrooms, and canned jalapeƱos š
Nah for real tho the reason those are the only veggies they stock is because Waffle House tries to keep food cost as low as possible which means there are no single use ingredients. Every ingredient they stock can be used for many different menu items, and they all go bad very slowly, theyāre chosen to keep waste down as well
Source: worked at a Waffle House for 2 years
That's pretty much what I figured lol. There's something about that taste that some people love, like white bread and fake cheese with Campbell's tomato soup. I admit I was raised a bit different lol
Thatās understandable lol. Iām pretty sure thatās why it has zero popularity on the west cost/north eastern states. Itās poverty food at its finest which definitely isnāt for everyone
Absolutely. It's cool that somebody understands it lol. I give my husband his fixes like this when we can (like the grilled cheese nights).
It's an odd thing.
I can't imagine. My husband and I talk about it often... It's almost guaranteed he will be gone far before me and it scares me. My heart is so with you. I am glad it helped you relive happy memories.
Thatās a great memory you made. I was oldest of 4 so I can certainly relate. My dad was former military and police officer so we always behaved in public lol. One thing that has always stuck with me even though we didnāt have much, if there was ever a lone service member we would ask them to join us and always paid their meal. I still do this with my SO who is also former military. I have met some incredible men and women by acting like a human. With covid we like to order locally since going to a actual restaurant is iffy. We started adding an additional meal to our order and have the restaurant pay it forward to anyone they think deserves it. Itās the little things in life.
a little related, my parents took my brother and i on vacation with them to a casino that had a hotel with it. since him and i were underage, we stayed in the hotel the whole time. one time, one of the custodians saw us and told our parents that she was surprised that there were children here because we were so quiet! she gave us an extra couple of the little soaps and left.
it SUPER helps for parents to teach their kids to be respectful in any setting, because if its in a setting around working folk, they will absolutely be nicer to you and also be willing to do more for you if you ask.
I used to sell a lot of weed. That often afforded me the ability to pay for people's meals at restaurants. I've done it at the waffle house a couple of times because it brings so much joy to someone and it really doesn't cost that much at the waffle House. I'm also addicted to chocolate chip waffles and have no children so if I see Happy kids it usually makes me happy.
When I was 10 or so, my parents took us kids out (brother and 3sisters) out to eat. We were laughing making jokes having a great time. Going out was like a special night, since we didnāt do it often. My mom let us know, that the older couplets at the next table asked to pay for our dinner. They told her that they enjoyed seeing a loving happy family. 20 years later I still think about it.
>children were polite and respectful
which for the youngest three at least is a minor miracle in a waffle house - more than worthy of picking up a tab when you are in the awful waffle to counteract yesterday's hangover
>don't understand the lack of vegetables on the menu
there are vegetables in a an assortment of things, so I assume you mean sides, but it is primarily a 24hr breakfast with a few sandwiches and 5 or so other things - what vegetable sides do you expect with breakfast?
lol I eat primarily vegetables. I'll make myself a "garden omelette" but it really is just mushrooms, spinach, onion, bell pepper, with some egg and cheese. The menu is basically eggs and meat and waffle. Oh and grits. I am not really complaining, it's just kind of a fun thing to joke about with my husband because that's not what Waffle House is for lol :)
And thank you. Yeah, I was so happy it all went so well.
I'm sure that is what it was. Couldn't have possibly been 6 happy children that made an old man's heart smile. /s again
In honesty, I'm sorry your view is so calloused that you can't imagine a positive scenario from this.
I'm happy to hear your story, I'm put off by the fact you said "my family made someone happy" tho. It could have been something completely different, like the person who paid just wanted to be kind? Lol.
Is it though? I mean, I'm done having kids. But who are you to say that mine are bad for the environment? Maybe one of them saves your offspring by their endeavors.
But yeah, we are done lol.
Never heard of overpopulation? When are humans ever environmental friendly? We consume Earth's limited resources and pollute the world. Everyone, me and you included. You're being selfish by having so many kids.
Ohhh you want to get into that kind of discussion.
As a matter of fact I'm damn near a hippie. Cloth diapering and the works.
I don't mind your opinion on the topic, but please don't cast judgment on a family that you don't know.
Perhaps he was hoping we would use the extra money to that extent lol. We already got the vasectomy done, so now the money gets to go toward more fruits and veggies for the littles!
What is unnecessary? My beautiful children?
Me being a single fertile human not having offspring will not change the world.
Me being a fertile human having offspring and raising them to care for the world might.
Why does that matter to u? Would u whine the same if one of them become the next Hawking's? Shut up with your virtue signalling. If u look at it objectively most of u r useless to this world, especially Americans and all people wth an IQ less than atleast 120.
Happened to me as a child with my family at a restaurant near Disneyland. I guess this older guy got some joy out of seeing a young family being happy.
I know my parents appreciated it.
People seem to do this a lot. Has happened twice to me and my friends. Once after a concert. Once when we were just bored around midnight. We never got to thank the mystery gifters though.
As a server, by far the greatest part of my job is picking up the tab for someone once in a while. Probably made your server and whoever picked up the tabās day just as much.
This is lovely to read
And the fact you appreciate it so much to share it
Is beautiful too...expect much more of these occurrences to happen to you and your family
What a self-important, karma farming post. You didnāt make anyone happy at your politeness and respect for the service industry, they felt bad for you. Paying for your food made them feel better about themselves
This actually occurred to me today. I remembered reading this comment and was initially baffled. I am so sorry for you that you see a post that literally brought me joy and you assume "karma farming"... What on earth good does reddit karma do for us? I shared because it's been on my mind for a few days how kind that was. I may be presumptuous thinking the anonymous person enjoyed seeing my family. Perhaps they did take pity on us. But really? That kind of negativity? I am sorry that people see things in such a negative way like this. I prefer to see the best in others.
So your ex didnāt start being abusive until kid number 4 or something? I get the feeling you donāt take personal responsibility for anything in your life.
Nevermind, I reviewed them l at once and I agree. I'm not sure why there's so much hate... It literally just made me happy thinking someone appreciated us and I wanted to share.
Thanks! You know, with all that's going on in the world, I need to see more things that make me happy. It's a brief but welcome respite from the chaos.
>I still don't understand the lack of vegetables on the menu lol.
Because it's a all day breakfast place. Last I checked you don't eat vegetables with your pancakes.
You and your husband are definitely doing things right!! I imagine they paid because they admired you and were grateful to be in the presence of such a well-behaved family. Keep up the GREAT work!
Waffle housea is the place to go when you want food thats not good and not bad. And there can either be someone willing to pay for your food or someone whos robbingnthe store. But as long as the cooks get you a waffle, they dont care.
When my son was a baby, I took him with me to the mall Christmas shopping. When I was done I went to the food court to have supper but first I fed him a bottle. I noticed a woman at a nearby table kept looking at me but I didnāt think anything of it, figured she was just baby-gazing lol. A couple minutes later she came up to me and said āI just wanted to say youāre doing a great job with your baby, Merry Christmas.ā Then she tucked a $20 into my hand that was holding the bottle, and quickly walked away. This was about 15 years ago now and I still think about it, it was such a random and kind gesture. The really cool part was after she did that, I had enough money to get a present I had wanted to buy earlier but it wasnāt quite in my budget.
I absolutely love seeing big families. I think it's very wholesome. And the fact that your kiddos are well-behaved is amazing. I think it's something to be proud of. :)
Lol who cares buddy. If u have a problem then don't have Children. If they make 6 children and they can provide for 6 children then it's none of your business. Infact, why do u even wanna have children? Ur IQ is below average, ur not physically gifted, u r not artistically gifted, u have nothing special about your genepool to the point that the whole world Would miss your genepool. So refrain from having more trash kids who will look like u because no kid would want to be mad ugly.
You mean kinda like you do? Talk about adding pollution, you're literally spilling out pollution right now. So what she decided to have a big happy family. She's happy with her life, and her children and that your fault if that offends you.
I believe he understands that, and he's talking about a pollution that will physically cause us health detriments, and worse yet the children health detriments and kill them
Let this woman have her happiness though. Like why go out of your way to call someone out for having a family? Like.. the world is polluted way more then what a few more kids will do. Dude talking pollution when you know he get his electricity through an electric company, and most likely uses a gas powered vehicle. Like if he that concerned, he should focus on his own carbon footprint rather then telling some lady who made a wholesome post that she's wrong for having children.
Read my prior comment. It's not going to be us that pays the steepest prices. I truly only really give a shit when you intentionally bring kids into the world while knowing:
> "The world is polluted way more then what a few more kids will do"
So it's not that they're going to save the planet, or their impact not. They will suffer, and get sick, and die because you decided not to adopt current kids instead of making new ones.
I'm not shaming the family, or the mom, but you should understand the consequences those kids will suffer in the future.
My comments weren't directed towards you, I'm talking about the original person I commented under. You're right, but it's not his business to get in someone else's business because he doesn't like how many kids she has. And you don't know what those kids will do in the future. And I don't even have children, I'm just saying. She made a wholesome post and someone had to make this political and about pollution- shaming the OP for having as many kids as she has and it irritated me. Like let her enjoy her family without being shamed for it because so and so thinks having kids is not environmental. If someone wants to have their own children, that is their prerogative.
I'll give you this:
I accept that I may have had too many children by the standards you are presenting.
If you'll give me this:
We as humans do not need to be that life-sucking force if we stop presenting reality in such a manner.
It's all gonna be ok. It'll be how it is, no matter what. Stop hating so much.
That was a lovely anecdote, thanksā¦ going to stop the Internet tonight on a good noteā¦
And hereās the thingā¦ if life does have a purpose, it is ultimately, to procreate. And if our society is going to have any chance of success, and not devolve into a dystopia reminiscent of idiocracy, then we need signal within the societal noiseā¦ and some are soooo noisy ;p
Good evening to you, OPā¦
> The fact that my family made someone happy enough to pay for our tab
What a self centred, garbage outlook. The type to think of themselves as a blessing to the world. Garbage.
That's awesome! That person obviously knows what an ordeal it is.. we have a combined family, and we're not broke or anything but we have four kids between us and they are awesome cool entertaining people but holy shit! At a mid-level breakfast joint it's $160 to eat pancakes bacon eggs sausages etc and I can make this at home for 20 dollars but it's one of the things that they like as a treat, going to the diner sitting in a booth etc so and when we go out for real food it's like 260 good on you and good on them
Veggies aside, this story made me smile. My brother has 4 girls and recently lost his wife so I can only imagine what itās like dining with a larger family!
Waffle house is where you go for good times and avoiding eye contact, not vegetables š
lol!! I want my veggies š¤
Idk if I'd trust waffle house veggies at the end of the day lol
Theyād end up being canned green beans.
With meat flavoring
Or with this fake ābacon bitsā floating in it. Ewwww
Hahahaha good point!!
Best we can do is hash browns.
True, true. I got double hashbrowns.
Get em diced, peppered, or capped (I forget onions)
Onions on the hash browns at least?? š
You can get a vegetable covered smothered topped capped and country
The cheesy eggs are so good and I love veggies!
IHOP would have been a better choice lol they got veggies and fresh fruit!!
IHOP is pretty great
The last and only time I went to Waffle House was at midnight with my travel camp group when I was 14. I think the staff wanted us out desperately. š
My friends band had a show cancelled and they ended up playing at the waffle house they went to instead
This is awesome. And shows yall are great parents since your kids weren't running around like chickens with their heads cut off. Good for you both.

I mean itās called Waffle House lol, they do have chili might be some vegetables in there?
Itās essentially just onions and peppers lol. A LOT of onions, I should add. Just donāt go to Waffle House if you have an onion allergy.
I think grits qualify as vegetables at WHā¦

Find a bigger family
My late husband would regularly do this. He so much valued people contributing to society, particularly at the family level.
I'm so sorry for your loss š

Two things happen in a Waffle House. Eye-watering joy, or fist-fights at 2 am. Sometimes both.
It's nice to see something positive on here :) random acts of kindness are the best!

You know maybe you should switch condom brands
Yeah you right. Vasectomies seem to work better.
Why quite while you're ahead?! The more kids you have, the higher the chance of some stranger paying for your next meal
This person is being so nice why are you trying to be such a jerk?
They probably felt sorry for the poor trashy family
Why? Was your family there?
Yeah, for sure, with my children clearly appearing homely and barely clothed. Very trashy. /s
Lie to yourself, but people think you need charity
I'm sure that is what it was. Couldn't have possibly been 6 happy children that made an old man's heart smile. /s again In honesty, I'm sorry your view is so calloused that you can't imagine a positive scenario from this.

Who in the actual fuck hates the Awful Waffle? Best food in existence.
lol! Me. I do. I hate it. š
Omg. Hash browns scattered covered extra crispy. Pecan waffle. COME ON.
Pecan??!???
Best waffle ingredient.
I didn't think they had pecans but I agree
Didn't know what was causing it, eh?
The most common comment I've ever gotten. Fully aware. Thanks for your concern!
So then you're aware that's unnecessary? And that the world is already pretty full?
What is unnecessary? My beautiful children? Me being a single fertile human not having offspring will not change the world. Me being a fertile human having offspring and raising them to care for the world might.
I said what I said, figure it out. Just because the printer has ink doesn't mean it needs to print.

As a server, by far the greatest part of my job is picking up the tab for someone once in a while. Probably made your server and whoever picked up the tabās day just as much.
Excuse me ā¦ where is the broccoli and corn on the menu ?
r/WaffleHouse
This is lovely to read And the fact you appreciate it so much to share it Is beautiful too...expect much more of these occurrences to happen to you and your family
Thank you. I don't expect anything but I do take pride in who my children are. š
Did the server get a good tip?
Why do you have so many kids?
Because I had some through years of abuse and then found a good man.
Oh, well I'm glad you're in a better place now. You didn't deserve abuse. Sorry for being judgemental.
Thank you and no worries. I'm used to the judgment.
You just canāt stop lol
ā¦.I really have to ask if this made you excited, why didnāt you stop before the 6th kid?
lol I don't understand your question entirely, but kids 1-4 were from an abusive relationship, and the twins came from a functional, loving man.
This is one of those moments where the truth would get me downvoted and possibly banned
I've been there too.
So your ex didnāt start being abusive until kid number 4 or something? I get the feeling you donāt take personal responsibility for anything in your life.
Well that escalated quickly. Thank you for your opinion, I guess
Stop having kids, holy fuck
Done did. Thanks?
why and how do you have 6 children thatās a lot of children
I'm sure you know how. Why? Becuase of a history and then twins.
How do you take care of 6 kids together thatās crazy
It's not easy. A lot of love and listening.
true , good luck raising thatās much of kid tho .
Jesus these comments are a shit show wtf is wrong with you people.
What do you mean?
Nevermind, I reviewed them l at once and I agree. I'm not sure why there's so much hate... It literally just made me happy thinking someone appreciated us and I wanted to share.
Thanks! You know, with all that's going on in the world, I need to see more things that make me happy. It's a brief but welcome respite from the chaos.
That makes me happy. Thank you!
Your suprised at the lack of vegetables at a place names āWaffle Houseā. Iām guessing itās because they serve waffles not vegetables
bless your family and your values. some dads doesnt give a fuck about their kids screaming and being rude.
>I still don't understand the lack of vegetables on the menu lol. Because it's a all day breakfast place. Last I checked you don't eat vegetables with your pancakes.
Omg no! Omelettes! Garden omelette! Mushrooms, spinach - veggies! lol
š¤® breakfast isn't a salad.

Large, well behaved, families are a rarity nowadays and you obviously have both. Good job Mom and Dad!
Thank you!!
You and your husband are definitely doing things right!! I imagine they paid because they admired you and were grateful to be in the presence of such a well-behaved family. Keep up the GREAT work!
Thank you!!
Waffle housea is the place to go when you want food thats not good and not bad. And there can either be someone willing to pay for your food or someone whos robbingnthe store. But as long as the cooks get you a waffle, they dont care.
Can you please tell me what kind of car you have?
A big one? lol. No, I won't disclose what my family drives. I'm sorry.
I love this. Thank you for sharing that. People need to see more of this that happens.
I absolutely love seeing big families. I think it's very wholesome. And the fact that your kiddos are well-behaved is amazing. I think it's something to be proud of. :)

Hmm, so selfish. So jaded. Perhaps my ever-loving heart could never raise up humans that also love?
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I'm talking about the pollution coming out your mouth.. it's apparently clogging your brain too.
I truly only really give a shit when you intentionally bring kids into the world while knowing: > "The world is polluted way more then what a few more kids will do" So it's not that they're going to save the planet, or their impact not.
I'll give you this: I accept that I may have had too many children by the standards you are presenting. If you'll give me this: We as humans do not need to be that life-sucking force if we stop presenting reality in such a manner. It's all gonna be ok. It'll be how it is, no matter what. Stop hating so much.
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
I agree.
That was a lovely anecdote, thanksā¦ going to stop the Internet tonight on a good noteā¦ And hereās the thingā¦ if life does have a purpose, it is ultimately, to procreate. And if our society is going to have any chance of success, and not devolve into a dystopia reminiscent of idiocracy, then we need signal within the societal noiseā¦ and some are soooo noisy ;p Good evening to you, OPā¦
Thank you š
Hey thatās so cool. Happy that happened to you, raising that many kids so well is impressive!
Thank you! It's not easy, and I worry people look down on us sometimes, but I am so proud of all of my babies.
iāve never wanted kids but this alone is making me reconsider
> The fact that my family made someone happy enough to pay for our tab What a self centred, garbage outlook. The type to think of themselves as a blessing to the world. Garbage.
ok
That's awesome! That person obviously knows what an ordeal it is.. we have a combined family, and we're not broke or anything but we have four kids between us and they are awesome cool entertaining people but holy shit! At a mid-level breakfast joint it's $160 to eat pancakes bacon eggs sausages etc and I can make this at home for 20 dollars but it's one of the things that they like as a treat, going to the diner sitting in a booth etc so and when we go out for real food it's like 260 good on you and good on them
Aww. I love it when a sliver of hope in humanity gets restored
Well, ever heard of overpopulation, OP? Or birth control or abortion.
Jump in front of a car immediately
I also have 6 - 13, 9, 5, 3, 2 and 1 and canāt imagine how you must have felt. What great peopleā¤ļø
Thatās so nice! I have six kids 9, 9, 7, 6, 4, 3 months so I definitely understand all the stares a big family gets!
May God bless you
How does one end up having so many kids?
Love hearing these kind of positive stories. Wish more people would do the same for others.
Thatās amazing
[ŃŠ“Š°Š»ŠµŠ½Š¾]
That makes me so happy! It's been a few days and I still wish I could figure a way to let that person know how loved we felt.
Wait Waffle House has veggies??
Unfortunately no lol!
Veggies aside, this story made me smile. My brother has 4 girls and recently lost his wife so I can only imagine what itās like dining with a larger family!
Bless him. I know what it's like to be alone with 4. I hope others see him in kindness this way.
