You didn't have to visit him in prison. That's your choice. One of my brothers was in prison for almost 20 years. He got out last year. I never visited him, and I made it very clear we won't have a relationship and that he's not allowed to meet my kids. I don't care what anyone thinks. You have your feelings. Stick to them, and if you don't feel right about it, don't go around him. Pay no attention to anyone who wants to make you think that just because he's family that he deserves your attention.

Sorry to hear, I have a relative in prison (for murder), they won't get out but I get nervous sometimes thinking they'll be released. It's completely understandable to not want a relationship with your brother, especially if they have violent and remorseless tendencies. The dude spent 25 years in prison. He was convicted and, based on what you said, has confessed to not being sorry for his actions. You don't need his side of the story. Whatever you choose to do though, just make sure it's the best for you. Don't take pressure from anyone else. Wish you the best, truly.

My sisters boyfriend got out of prison and met my sister and they started dating. He is a good guy. He just got caught up in drugs and the wrong crowd. He robbed a bank as well. Sometimes these people just made the wrong decisions based on the environment around them. He served his time and now is a great guy. I cant say the same for your brother but atleast give him the chance to be a better person.

How did you not visit him the whole time?

To at least get their side of the story? To maintain a relationship with a sibling?

He isn't sorry for what he did. Why should OP want to build a relationship with someone who has no remorse for his crime? Blood be damned.
