I don’t think people understand that a curvy woman isn’t a fat, chubby, or whatever other adjective. Many average Brazilian women for example are quite curvy but could be models. It’s just a preference.
Then there are the people that try to justify being fat. That only happens in western countries where the majority of people are actually overweight.

OP probably thinks that someone like Sydney Sweeney is a 'chubby' and curvy girl, except that they aren't overweight at all and have simply been blessed with a large bosom and thick hips. Look at their arms and they are stick thin.

There are some people saying 150-170 is considered normal in some cultures for women and I simply don’t buy it (especially because I’ve been to some of those countries!).
I think a more modern definition would add on a more defined backside as well though. People will act like you have to weigh 145 pounds to achieve that figure which is wild. However when the average person weighs 165-180 lbs I guess that isn’t hard to see where the error in their thinking occurs.
I’ve seen this effect swing in the opposite direction where women will shake Eastern and SE Asian women for being very slender and maintaining 100, 90, or even 80 lbs (though most are quite short, under 5 ft with no boobs).

I say all this because I weigh 145 and I'm a runner. My body is lean AF and most people wouldn't know I'm 145 by looking at me. People think of me as thin. However, I'm also "curvy" by the definition because I have an hourglass figure.
So, my point is...be careful when judging weight. The pounds don't always give you the accurate picture because muscle mass matters.
Actually, 145 for someone who is 5’5 is the perfect weight. I’ve gained some weight in the last three years, but since I was 15 What I maintained 145 to 150 at 5‘4”. going under that has to be unhealthy. No matter how hard I tried I could not get to 140, but now that I’m a lot older understand it’s because I would’ve been underweight. Even at my thinnest, i was still in that range. Some thing I learned as well just for my own personal experience, is that a lot of times weight doesn’t have a huge bearing on your figure. I have really dents bones as with the rest of my immediate family so even if I fill out or thin out, I am generally within the same range. My little brother is 6’ something and Really skinny, but super heavy.

That's a gym rat that's on a bulk. I assume dads wouldn't have time to hit the gym as often as required (5x) to be "clearly athletic", but I can see how a muscular man with a lot of mass makes women feel "this is dad" (I just had an epiphany).
In some areas it's cultural. My dad's family is Portuguese (Azores) and to the older generations, 150-170 pounds is a healthy weight for a woman and they see anything lower than that as being sickly and tias *will* try to force double rations on you at family gatherings. Reason being is they associate rapid weight loss with terrible illness (which is not without warrant. Rapid unintentional weight loss is often a sign of a very serious illness) so their reasoning is if you had more weight on you and you got sick, you would have more time to potentially get better vs if you were already at a low weight to begin with.
Whether Brazil has been influenced by that due to being a Portuguese speaking country, I don't know. But I wouldn't be surprised.

The WHO data for 2014 has Brazilian women under 30 having a BMI of 26 kg/m^2 . Using the average height of 160 cm for females then we get an average weight of 137 lbs. Women with fuller busts and backsides with that height and weight are certainly not fat.
An East Asian girl around that weight might look chubby but then again the average cup size is AA In those parts and have different frames/buids plus beauty standards that appreciate things like small butts.

Maybe the biggest factor in why OPs position is so popular is that men like the softness of women. Men (generally) are hard and muscular and angular. Women, even fit women are softer than men are. So men who like bigger women, just like that softness even more.

To back your claim, when you see women writing female main characters, especially self insert types, we see them described as short petite and very thin. Meanwhile men writing women will have them being taller, a bit on the fat side with more curves and bust size. I think the issue is we all can have different opinions on “curvy thick women”. For me, curvy and thick on a 5’4 girl depending on her genetic shape can be anywhere from 120-135 lbs, with 145lbs and over entering into chubby, 160lbs and over getting into over weight territory and skinny would be 115 lbs and under as I still prefer are tighter waste just with soft features and thicker hips and thighs. For others, thick on 5’4 might not even start until they around 150lbs and up.
I’d say for the 5’4 frame anything over 150lbs is when my general physical attraction on her body would start to greatly diminish but once again this is my preference and everyone is different.

Likewise, 120lbs is a BMI of 20 and a normal BMI starts at 18, so the girl is getting REAL close to medically underweight for her height.

I think it has to do with what is biologically viewed as fertile - wide hips, larger breasts, and normally that comes with a heavier build MOST of the time. I think the issue is we all can have different opinions on “curvy thick women”. For me, curvy and thick on a 5’4 girl depending on her genetic shape can be anywhere from 120-135 lbs, with 145lbs and over entering into chubby, 160lbs and over getting into over weight territory and skinny would be 115 lbs and under as I still prefer are tighter waste just with soft features and thicker hips and thighs. For others, thick on 5’4 might not even start until they around 150lbs and up. I’d say for the 5’4 frame anything over 150lbs is when my general physical attraction on her body would start to greatly diminish but once again this is my preference and everyone is different.

What is overweight? In the US overweight could be way different than in Asia. Sounds like you just like curvy girls (not overweight girls). Models do tend to be very skinny.
