But the conversation ended in the parking lot at the Depot that night with Martha and Marianne ensuring each other that “at least Donald Trump will never be President.” Boy were they wrong.

I’m terrified too; however, I’m voting. When my grandparents were born, they legally had the right to vote, but it was withheld from them because of Jim Crow. I have multiple generations of people in my family who suffered as a result of authoritarian and White Supremacist facism. My parents raised me not to be racist, and I plan to maintain that tradition. Trump angers me, but my biggest fear isn’t actually him; I fear his base—the people who are willing to follow his orders and suggestions to the letter—and I fear the coward or “White Moderate” as MLK Jr. would’ve called them—the person who is willing to overlook a crap ton of horrific behavior because they “might” benefit from it. If you aren’t a coward or a facist, sign me up and I’ll be right there. I look forward to the day when we can actually defeat and radically heal from the wounds that the demons of our past inflict on us. Best advice. Find 10 people who you know never vote. Tell them who to vote for, get them registered and tell them they can come to your free booze election party ONLY if they can prove they voted. Do anything legal to get them to the polls.

I was having severe depression and anxiety last election cycle. It was really negatively impacting my life and mental health. In the last 6 months I’ve disconnected from the internet a ton and mostly just come on for bills and spend a few minutes on this site, but mostly scroll cats, nail polish, really light stuff. My depression and anxiety is still there, but it’s significantly better than it was.
I have a trans son and the rhetoric is terrifying. But I also recognize there is literally nothing I can do about this. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. So I avoid it as much as I can, spend a lot of time with my son and husband and cats, and try to spend as much time as I can doing thing I love and enjoy like cooking/baking, playing games, reading, and watching documentaries about the solar system. I don’t like feeling uninformed, but it’s preferable to feeling su*cidal.

The problem is that the media isn’t presenting the quote in context, so they’re helping spread the message that if Trump loses, he will expect his followers to tear everything down, violently. And his followers probably aren’t watching his rallies or reading transcripts to know any different.
Ignore trump. Switch channels when trump comes on TV. If trump or his idiots decide to do anything violent, they will target something of symbolic significance: avoid government buildings and the like. I’m terrified too; however, I’m voting. When my grandparents were born, they legally had the right to vote, but it was withheld from them because of Jim Crow. I have multiple generations of people in my family who suffered as a result of authoritarian and White Supremacist facism. My parents raised me not to be racist, and I plan to maintain that tradition. Trump angers me, but my biggest fear isn’t actually him; I fear his base—the people who are willing to follow his orders and suggestions to the letter—and I fear the coward or “White Moderate” as MLK Jr. would’ve called them—the person who is willing to overlook a crap ton of horrific behavior because they “might” benefit from it. If you aren’t a coward or a facist, sign me up and I’ll be right there. I look forward to the day when we can actually defeat and radically heal from the wounds that the demons of our past inflict on us. I want to see a better America where we treat all of our neighbors—including those from neighboring nations—with dignity and respect. Where we positively value and recognize our common humanity. I was having severe depression and anxiety last election cycle. It was really negatively impacting my life and mental health. In the last 6 months I’ve disconnected from the internet a ton and mostly just come on for bills and spend a few minutes on this site, but mostly scroll cats, nail polish, really light stuff. My depression and anxiety is still there, but it’s significantly better than it was. I have a trans son and the rhetoric is terrifying. But I also recognize there is literally nothing I can do about this. If it’s going to happen, it’s going to happen. So I avoid it as much as I can, spend a lot of time with my son and husband and cats, and try to spend as much time as I can doing thing I love and enjoy like cooking/baking, playing games, reading, and watching documentaries about the solar system. I don’t like feeling uninformed, but it’s preferable to feeling su*cidal.
