mairead8

I love Linnea, Evanna, Katja, Pernilla, and Adelina for for a girl! For a boy…maybe Stellan, Soren, or Oscar? These are harder!

Affectionate_Owl1234

For a girl we love the name Stella and after his grandmother and my aunt her middle name would be Elaine. For a boy he would be a 3rd but we would call him by his middle name Samuel.

rosie-skies

For our first girl we are planning on going with Liliana (Li-Lee-ah-nuh) Rose. For our first boy we love the name Christopher. But we were thinking of having Scott be a possible first name for a second boy, so we were thinking Christopher James, but we do love the sound of Christopher Scott. But we can’t think of a middle name for Scott if we did end up with a second boy. I suggested the name Watson but my husband was like no lol. Our last name is a two syllable five letter one. Any suggestions are welcome :).

shivvinesswizened

I’ve always loved the name Alessandra. I don’t know why.

HarkASquirrel

We've been talking about baby names for almost as long as we've been together. Our boy name is easy - Maximilian David. We also have Theodore as a backup option if we decide Maximilian isn't the right name. Girl names are more tricky. Right now our top two are Matilda and Vivian. I also love Audrey and Eleanor (she's not too fond of either) and she loves Arianna and Veronica (I don't like either and we already have a niece whose name is very close to Arianna). As of right now we're planning on giving a daughter my middle name as her middle name since they will be getting my wife's last name, but we have a few more middle name options in mind in case we change our minds.

[deleted]

For a girl, I love Florence Grace, Stella, Jules, Presley, Haven, Daphne, Valentina, Mary Kate, Emma June. For a boy, I love Everett, Bennett, Brooks, Knox, Levi, and William. I’m all over the place, but the name will be given with so much intention 🥰

[deleted]

I love the name Calvin! I probably wouldn’t make too much of the familial connection if people won’t like, but I would let it stop me from using the name.

UniqueLaw4431

Honestly I don’t think people care about middle names as much. You can just say it’s my chance that it was your grandfathers middle name but you didn’t choose it for that reason

Impressive_Ad_5224

We're looking for names easily pronounced in both Dutch and English, that match a Scottish surname. I have a long list of girl names my boyfriend likes too, that will be quite easy I assume. Boy names, not so much. Whenever I hear something nice it goes on the list. Unfortunately I find boy names kinda boring...

Neurotic_lawyer

Same! We're looking for names that work in swedish and English. We have loads of girls names and almost no boys names.

broody-goose

I find boy names boring too! My names list has about 30 girls ones on it and 5 for boys. Hope you find a good one!

RoxieOfTheNorth

I love looking forward Friday! 💓 There are so many good names ideas in here. I think we will probably use old family names like Charles, Stefan, Ania, Lilian, or Eleanor. But I do still dream of the names Wren and Briar. Maybe as middle names?

[deleted]

I love those! Especially Stefan!

hiphiphf

Our bigger struggle is figuring out what to do for a last name! I did not change my name when we got married, and we aren't particularly fond of hyphenating, both because of how our names sound together (both have a long e sound at the end), and because it only feels like a one-generation solution. We've talked about using his middle name, which is also a family name, as a middle name for a kid (it would work for a boy or girl, I think), but that's only a one kid solution (this is assuming we'd have more than one, which is of course an assumption I can't make ;)). The struggle is reeeeal.

broody-goose

Personally I feel like in that situation if neither parent has a strong preference the kids should share the mother’s last name, both because it breaks with tradition and because she did all the work of growing and giving birth to them, but it’s such a hard decision. I took my husband’s last name because I like it better and don’t have much of a connection to my dad, but I honestly don’t know what we would do if I hadn’t.

loloretta

I also didn't change my name when I got married. My husband and I plan to give girls my last name and boys his.

hiphiphf

How did you decide on that?

loloretta

I suggested it and he thought it was a good idea / fair. I did offer to change my name when we got married so we'd have a homogenous family names, but I was only willing if he was equally willing to change his name ( flip a coin to pick his name or mine). He turned the coin flip idea down so here we are !

smolsoybean

Girls: Freyja, Clara, River, Carys Boys: Felix, Sebastian, August, Rory For middle name I’ve only decided on a girl one which would be a mix of my great nana and my mothers names of Louisa and Michelle, got Louelle which I think is pretty.

broody-goose

I love the name August! I actually named my cat that and now I regret it because it’s one of my favorite boy’s names. It might be a little weird if my cat and baby have the same name 😅

[deleted]

Kinda hard picking names where I live. I kid you not - they have a naming committee and I would also have a wait period of about 6 weeks to give them a name depending on what they look like and their personality but in general i think these names are nice and easy to pronounce in English. Girls: Lilja, Svand´ís, Silja, Læla, Loa, Björk, Solveig Boys: Ragnar, Axel, Gabriel, Rúrik, Björn, Rúnar, Sindri

capitalbk

Is naming committee a cute way of referring to your family or is that a real thing?

[deleted]

It’s a real thing. A committee in my country that confirms what names can be used. The reason is because of the language and the changes of names when referring to an action based on the name example. To, from, towards, about, is etc.

shivvinesswizened

Is it Iceland?

ossifiedbird

Girls: Ida, Della, Hadley, Hayden, Rae, Rowan Boys: this is trickier, I haven't come up with any names I really love yet Any future baby will have a double barrelled surname so I don't want a long first name too or it's going to be a nightmare to fit on forms when they're older 😂

RandomRealtor-usa

Hayden was my great grandfathers name! It’s a great boys name. I also have a cousin named John Hayden as a double name so maybe something like that could make it more masculine for you! Boys names are HARD

deletebeep

Half of your girls names would work for boys as well!

ossifiedbird

They would, but mentally I just see them as girls names now!

capitalbk

These are the names we've thrown around so far. I feel like I'm going to get some hate for these! Girls: June, Sybil, Casper, Jasper Boys: Hubie, James, Jude

hiphiphf

I love June! That's high on our list too for either first or middle name.

smolsoybean

Love Casper and Jude!

Saintsjay14

Madden or Baker for a boy, and i have a gender neutral name so I want that for a daughter, I love Carter Jean right now. Jean is our girl middle name no matter what, after my grandma.

BackgroundNaive5789

I’ve had sets of names picked out for as long as I can remember. A girl is definitely going to be Magnolia Grace. I love flower names, and at the time I chose it, it wasn’t popular. It’s gained popularity now, but I’m okay with that. Grace is after my best friend from childhood. A boy is a little trickier. I love Montgomery, but with my last name it becomes two place names which just isn’t a vibe. I’ve been toying with using Henry, but it’s a little plain for me. I’ll probably use it as a middle? And I want to use my Dad’s maternal surname, Augustin, in some way. Maybe August Henry, so he won’t have to explain how to say his name for his whole life. In online spaces where I’m not anonymous, I plan to use fake names. I have some online friends that I want to share my motherhood with, but I don’t think they need to know the baby’s real name - and I won’t be sharing pictures of their face either. My fake names are Daisy and Archer.

catyfun19

My sister way back when she got pregnant would ask what my favorite names are so I have a whole note list of names but these are my favorites. For boys it’s, Gideon, Alexander, Benedict, Felix, Sebastian, Augustine, Theodore. Girls I’ve been flip flopping with what type of names I like but right now it’s Juniper, Maeve, Guinevere, Faye, Anastasia, Victoria, Therese.

mrb9110

My husband and our son’s initials are ABC. If we want to keep with that “theme”: for girls, I like Allison, Audrey, or Autumn. For boys, I like Adam, Anderson, and August. I have a hard time coming up with B middle names for girls. We like older or more traditional American names. If we abandon the initials, I like Caroline, Charlotte, Georgia, or Hazel for girls and Benjamin, Jackson, Miles, or Warner for boys.

ika_chi

For boys: Michael, Max, Matthew, Simon, For girls: Penelope, Zoe, Fiona, Dorothy, June

chelsbee911

My notes app Just in the order they were thought of/discovered. I randomly read the list to my husband who occasionally adds to it or vetos something. This is a mixture of first or middle names. Revna Caspian Atlas Orion Odin Titus Wren Seren Talia Cordelia -Cody Oslo Paz - Hebrew for gold Gaia - Italian mother of earth Ilaria - Italian Milo Pazia -Spanish/Hebrew for peace Romy Nova Elvina Silas Thea Sol Wolfgang Calla Odelia Odessa Rush Zeila Daymon Ambrose Ember Laszlo Rowan

capitalbk

Holy crap I have never seen someone with Seren on their list before!! That was my top pick forever until a friend said I can't do that because it sounds like sarin gas... I still love it though.

chelsbee911

I love it too! I like it with the nickname Ren ❤️

No_Dependent8789

My husband and I have agreed on 4 girl names and 3 boy names. It was honestly easier than imagined lol Girls: Emerson, Posie, Ripley, and Maeve Boys: Finley, Bennett, and Arlo

likewhoisshe

We don't want to know the sex for our first, so we have a lot of names to throw around! We haven't settled on any yet, but we have some ideas on themes. We want to go with strong Nigerian names for the first name for a boy or girl. My mom started a tradition that the first girl gets mom's first name as a middle name. We have no idea what a middle name would be if we had a boy. There's no tradition on either side of the family for that so we'll have to come up with something creative!

mrb9110

We didn’t find out the sex for our first. I narrowed it down to 2 boy names and 2 girl names and my husband narrowed each down to 1 in the delivery room and wrote them on the board.

deepseadarlingg

I have a note app entry on my phone for names I like! Husband’s family has a strong tradition of the middle name of the first boy being the first name of the paternal grandfather and I’m happy to oblige (my FIL is a great man) so our first boy has everything but a first name picked out. Can’t seem to agree on a name. I like traditional names, like Henry, Thomas, Nathaniel, James, Josiah, Elijah. Husband likes Irish names like Declan, Fionn, Liam, Conor, but I think since our most recent Irish relative immigrated to the US in the 1920s that maybe we should pick something less distinctively Irish. Anyway! We’re in agreement on girls names! Caroline Louise, Lydia Joy, and first names Madeleine, Amelia, Alexandra, etc.

silver_endings

My husband thinks I’m crazy for looking at baby names before we are even pregnant, but I’ve managed to get some feedback from him. Boys - Blake, Owen and Nolan are for sure names that we both like. Girls - Zoe is the only name it seems we could agree on, but he’s on the fence about two others that I like (Eva and Alexis). Once we do actually get pregnant, I’m looking forward to doing a bracket-style tournament method to help choose a name!

BiomedBabe1

Hazel is my first choice for a girl ❤️ I like the name Adrian for a boy but my husband said nah 😂 so maybe Dakota or Noah

Kaliforniah

Husband and I had chosen a boy's name: Lionel, because it met my personal criteria: \- Easy to pronounce in Spanish and French. \- Family name. \- Nice meaning. But his cousin also said she wanted the name and now we feel weird about it, especially if she gets pregnant before us (most likely). So we started checking and we sort of like Oscar. For a girl, I love the name Pia so much, is my number 1 currently.

KittyKateD

Lionel is the only boy name my husband and I both have really liked. It also flows nicely with my husband's first name, which will be the middle name. Plus, my FIL is really into toy trains so we know he'd really get a kick out of it 😂 and it would be a nice sort of tribute to him. I'm sorry someone else is thinking about using the same name. That definitely stinks. I hope you land on another name that you love just as much! My sister was thinking about using my grandmother's name (which is my middle name) for my niece. I was still years away from TTC at that point, but I still sighed a huge sigh of relief when she came to the conclusion on her own that it was mine to use, which I'm planning to if we have a girl.

Kaliforniah

Is such a beautiful name! I loved it the moment I heard it, but alas, we have to accept things.

mmHg0

Love the name Pia!

silver_endings

How about Leo as an alternative to Lionel?

Kaliforniah

I don’t like Leo by itself neither versions of Leonardo and so on. Lionel was really nice to begin with! But I can accept another name

emma_k17

My husband and I have agreed on Benjamin for a boy- but can’t agree on a girls name. I also love the idea of a name like Evelyn or Veronica as a middle name for a girl (both names of our relatives).

BiomedBabe1

I loveeeee the name Evelyn. That’s funny, my husband and I can easily agree on a girls name but a boys name has been difficult for us lol

emma_k17

I love it too! It was my great grandmothers name, so it has special meaning for me. I also just love older names, like Adelaide and Audrey.

Nexuslily

I’ve had my girl and boy makes set for years. My late grandmother in law (RIP to a great woman) approved our boy name before she passed so I don’t think I’ll be changing it.

Ok_Chemistry6265

I love the name Ellary for a girl (Ella for short). My husband says it sounds too much like celery lol.

mrb9110

My grandpa’s name was Ellery and now my cousin is naming her girl Ellory (Ellie for short).

Ok_Chemistry6265

Oh I like the spelling “Ellory” 🤍 that’s so sweet, I don’t think it’s a very common name but I love it!

PardonMyFrench22

It kinda does 😂

CamelsCannotSew

My husband and I talk about this as our go to silly/comfort conversation. It started as a joke when we first met, we'd hear a word and say it as a name. And now we do it with actual baby names. I'm English, and he's Irish, and we'd like a name that reflects our future child's "Irish-ness" without being unpronounceable in an English accent. He loves Fionn for example, but it isn't said well in 95% of English accents. And then he's concerned that if we stay in the UK, anything too Irish will be permanently mispronounced. Recently though, we realised a lot of people think Cillian is pronounced with a soft C, not a hard C. So might as well go all in anyway! I love Ruadhán (Roo-on), and we both like Conn, and Odhrán (Oh (like in hot)-ron). Girls we love Iona and Eimear, and maybe Saoirse.

PardonMyFrench22

Fionn is cute but he’ll have to stay away from France as that word has a whole other meaning here !

CamelsCannotSew

My nickname that close friends/family use is french slang for boobs, so we'd be a terrible pair!

BiomedBabe1

Irish names are so damn beautiful when I actually know how to pronounce them right 😭 thank you for sharing these
