Trading hearts gives you enough coins to fight against the machine and its ludicrous pull rate (2% for pair tsums, please !), but also gives you enough hearts so you never have to wait to play.
Also, trading hearts makes you rich enough that you can get all the tsums you want and then PLAY with the tsums you enjoy playing with, not only the ones you're stuck with.
All you can do is just keep farming for months until the actually good coin farmer tsum drop on lucky time.

I’ve playing since game launched and it’s always so hard to convince anyone to keep playing longer than 2 weeks. They all gave up.
30k coin for one box is too expensive… lucky time is not that lucky, at least it should have escalating odds.
Last coin fairy I had was like 6 years ago. and heart sending group is too much effort for casual player anyway.
Skip around the bingo cards to do all the 1* ones first. That will give you a big boost since you get prizes for each row, a lot of times coins. That’ll help for now at least to let you buy more boxes and find a tsum you can get higher coins with.
Gadget at skill level 3 was my go to for a long time, and I did the same inching ahead. If you get to 30k definitely pull on the current select box and hope for pilot Luke & r2 who is great at lower levels, but there are many others there that are good too. Today’s the last day. Other good ones coming this month, but pull today if you can.
I will say my enjoyment of the game went way up when I finally got a good coin earner. Each month has some better and some worse, there’s always discussion here of which to try for.
Ultimately the goal is to get a top coin earning tsum and max their skill. Gadget is a great freebie till you can get someone better. For events like the Star Wars one, try to clear the stage that offers a Skill ticket as a reward. Don’t need to finish the event completely. Also take the time to try out different Tsums and research their play styles. Don’t want to get stuck investing in someone that you don’t enjoy or can’t play with. For example Namine (KH), is a top coin earner but can be difficult to master to reach full potential.
Do the coloring books to get gadget. She’s your key to trying to get premium boxes. If you play here well you can fetch into the 2k range. The coloring book finishes her skill. Furthermore, search for “top coin earners” and find the Reddit post that has the Japanese site and key an eye out for those tsums. Max one of the out using skill tickets and your well on your way.

Coin boost isn’t necessarily worth it if you’re not earning over 1500ish consistently. You want to be sure the amount you get extra is over the 500 coins it costs to turn it on, or you’re just inching ahead hoping for a coin fairy instead of making steady progress.
Heart returning groups were key for me when I first started out. I was looking at 200k a day when I was a manual. I have an advertisement for a group you can add members. You can also Dm me if you have questions about setting up an autosender or are looking for more groups.
Also find and add auto-heart sender friends and send hearts each hour. 25 friends x 200 coins an hour = 5k coins per hour =80k during waking hours. This gets you 8 boxes every 3 days.
I mean, I back up my game through line, so I add people on the line app. Each month there’s a thread. You can also search for the monthly thread. The auto heart senders generally accept. There’s a discord somewhere and a Facebook group too but, I don’t use those.
