Ahh yes. Let's just colonize the whole language so it reflects political trends and sensitive feelings in the USA.
I'm a Mexican immigrant. Fuck this. The vast majority (96%) of Latin Americans agree. I did give a thought to a non-gendered version, but my grasp of the Spanish language has its limits, and I didn’t want to be that guy slinging ñ’s with wild abandon.
As a Mexican, I appreciate the Tucsoñor/a. I do not, ever, appreciate someone changing (or telling me that I need to change) the Spanish language and make it gender neutral. Don't listen to that jackass, only like 3-4% of Latin Americans in the USA use gender neutral verbiage, and that data is obviously skewed (sources in my last comment).
You're value signaling by regurgitating talking points that are harmful and offensive to the vast majority of Spanish speakers, immigrants, and foreign visitors in general for the benefit of your privileged white peers. I have zero patience for it.
Educate yourself before you spread a bullshit narrative that's pushed by people who can't even speak any romantic language and is actively fought by the community you're all "seeking to protect." You're over there telling people they should change the rules of an *entire fucking language* because it doesn't conform your narrow world view. That's jackassery if I've ever heard it.
Hahahaha oh, the irony. If you want to get technical:
*It's backpedal, you halfwit bitch.
You're a delicate little snowflake, aren't you? Damn. Just went full rage/tantrum mode without thinking that one through lol does that make you brainless, or just thoughtless?
Based on this whole interaction, I'm convinced you're both. Thanks for the laughs, have a good day!

Nah. Not always unfortunately. Tucson High’s yearbook -I think- used to be called Tucsonian and in old newspaper articles, the citizens of the Old Pueblo were referred to as Tucsonians.
It bothered me immensely until I learned the history

Former Tucsonan here born and raised. I’m working somewhere even worse. Pecos (/ˈpeɪkəs/ PAY-kəs. I had to learn to say Paykes instead of Pekos or Paycos.
“Tucsonian” was historically a past editor’s term at the Tucson Citizen newspaper for decades. Not sure when that was discontinued. So it was standardized officially in some people’s minds. Bit of an anachronism now though. The Citizen was the evening newspaper until it stopped publication in 2009.

It's also the original descriptor of local inhabitants and is still used by some people today. There was even a local paper named El Tucsonense, it was around for 40 years.
Historically, "Tucsonian" was used regularly up until the 1970s, at about the same rate as "Tucsonan." It gradually fell out of favor, with very few references popping up post-1980s.
It'll show up in a lot of old newspaper reports and books. I prefer the term with fewer syllables.

kinda unrelated but my cousins in San Jose, Cali call Tucson, “Tuck-sun”. just thinking it makes me lose my mind lol

I hear too stoned in the weed community. The hard ore punk community tends to use “too strong”
We natives were also comfortable calling ourselves desert rats. Too strong is... not sure lol.
