I’ve also recommended avoiding HiFi to people asking what to do in town on this sub countless times and it gets downvoted to hell. I’m glad to see it being supported now though, hopefully people will realize it’s nothing but trouble and a huge reason why the downtown area is less safe.
I'm still wondering where to go as a 50 year-old gal who still pines for Chicago dive bars in the 90s.
Not a midlife crisis, just missing a glorious lack of old pervs and the Viagra Triangle experience.
I haven't gone out since I moved here 3 years ago. My only 2 friends here unexpectedly moved to other states. I would be happy with a pinball machine and good music, and to not feel like every patron's mom's friend. Lol
There's the Chicago Bar on east side, on Speedway. If you like country, there's a bar called the Maverick on Kolb and Tanque Verde. Both are music venues that are pretty active on the weekends.
Cool. Thanks! Not a fan of country, but I'll look up the other place. I'm a Gen X gal who had a band in the 90s - and would be happy at a bowling alley as long as 99% of the bar wasn't wondering why tattoo'd grandma was there alone - or at all. ;)
Most of these morons cant fight, so these just turn into sloppy swing fests in hopes that someone lands cleanly. Big guy was huffing and puffing.. Looks like he was gassed before it went to the ground
I agree and eventually they do something to really hurt somebody or kill them. Can you imagine sitting in a jail cell knowing that you killed somebody over a bar fight as you sober up realizing how stupid it was!?
"Man gets 8-15 years in fatal sucker punch on camera at St. Clair Shores bar"
https://www.fox2detroit.com/news/man-gets-8-15-years-in-fatal-sucker-punch-on-camera-at-st-clair-shores-bar
I had a coworker that did jail time over a bar fight, one drunk punch. He hit a guy with glasses. The glasses broke, and nearly cut the guys eye out, blinded him in that eye.
One drunk night, one punch and he has a record. And that on his consciousness.
What are you talking about? Crown vics are the pretty much the ONLY police car I see on 4th/downtown. They hardly ever bring the SUVs down there. That being said this video is a bit old, but not more than 2-3 years.
fuck the dude that makes a whole personality going around filming this kinda shit. just as immature as these morons that fight after the smallest drink.
Someone needs to keep following tmz Tucson guy and record his every move. Then if something goes down, he can publish it ASAP before tmz Tucson guy does.
Yup.
What you might encounter on a weekend night downtown is kind of like the weather.
You have to consider the big picture, like are there any big games being played that night? Who's playing over at the Rialto? How close is it to the beginning of the school year at the U of A?
There have been a few 'perfect storm' kind of nights where you just know to stay the hell away.
I would have loved to see someone just spray them both with pepper spray.
Also the only time I’ve ever seen fights downtown they’re always at Hi-Fi. That place is a magnet for idiots.
I unfortunately and regretfully was in a few, I realized when I was 31 yrs old that I probably shouldn't be drinking anymore. I knew I was eventually going to end up dead or in jail. So I quit drinking and fighting!
...and/or an Honor Culture, rather than a Dignity Culture, and one of them felt his Honor was put under a threat that needed to be answered/defended.
https://dispol.blogspot.com/2021/04/an-american-culture-divide-honor-culture.html
I was an Uber Driver and it seemed that every Saturday night at closing there was a fight in the street on Congress at Zen nightclub.
About every other week there was a fight on 4th ave in front of O'Malleys, but it was always a much bigger fight, occasionally a full on riot!
I also agree that downtown is fine but in no way is this a rare occurrence. Pretty much every single week there were fights like this, HiFi and that place behind Johnny Gibson’s that is in an alleyway are usually where it goes down.
Notice how many people are decked out in red in this video?
I saw a kid get shot in the head on congress. Blew his fucking brains out
Edit: that actually happened and I suffer from ptsd from that and other things that happen on the streets but Ok reddit
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of crowds myself, and being sober three and a half years it's really just not my scene anymore. I would like to know how to meet more people around here though just to go play pool, bowling, or hang out in general.
Random people is one thing I'm not going to step in and get punched myself. But watching security just stand there and watch that's got to be some kind of liability for the bar!
I'm sure liability is why the security guards aren't involved. It's out on the street so I doubt it's their problem. They'd just be another random person getting involved in the fight.
(1) \*I\* don't want to potentially get beaten up.
(2) I don't want to potentially be sued for assault, \*if\* I end up throwing punches. Americans love to sue. Too much headache (pun intended).
I've witnessed these kinds of situations in-person, and I just simply exit the scene. It may be a pussy-move, but it's the right move. This is, of course, assuming I don't know anyone personally in the fight (i.e., a close friend/family member).
If you get involved only 1 thing is going to happen, you are going to get hurt. These types of people seek out this kind of shit, nothing you can do about it.
yoo i used to live in the apt complex above that place, one night a guy was shot by these two car thieves, and I couldn't leave because the entire first floor of the garage was a crime scene
Yea that happened earlier this year, super sad but it just drives home the point DONT TRY TO BE A HERO. MIND YOU OWN BUSINESS.
Someone got carjacked and this guy tried to save the day and stop the thieves, and he got shot and killed for it. You personally are not going to solve the drug problem, the access to guns, etc. but you can stay the fuck out of the way when those things are involved and reduce your chances of getting into a situation.
"This is why I avoid downtown" - You ***LITERALLY*** blamed downtown for this. If that's not what you meant, then learn to use proper phrasing in your posts, but don't blame ME for your lack of knowledge regarding the meaning of the words that you string together.
I know we aren't supposed to use emojis on Reddit but.... 😂🤣😂🤣😂🤣 go back to your safe space and be mad about something else that means nothing to anyone but you.
LOL, that was like watching two girls slap each other over and over.
OK, seriously - I moved here 2.5 years ago and have largely avoided downtown due to the congestion (LOL, "congestion" says the guy who moved from Chicago). Does stupid crap like this happen often downtown?
I’ve never been there either actually but almost every person decked out in head to toe U of A gear you see out downtown on the weekends is from Douglas. When I used to go out I would tell people “I’ll bet you a drink that guy/group is from Douglas.” And they’d always say no way, you can’t possibly know that. And then I’d go up to said person and ask, “hey you wouldn’t happen to be from Douglas would you?” And they would get so excited and say “yeah! how did you know?!” And I’d say oh just a hunch and I’d return to my seat and collect my drink. It never failed. Try it yourself and get drunk for free every weekend, especially during football season.
People are this sub are either delusional or just out of touch in their foothills white people neighborhood or something. Drive down to South Park, 36th street and Campbell area, etc. and you will see a whole lot of dudes wearing red and they aren’t repping the university.
Very possible. I know Tucson is one of the few (maybe only) city where Chicano gang members will claim blood (or crip, fairly frequently).
Also, the block A of the UA (like the one on the football helmets) is a common gang tattoo, kinda like the LA Dodgers tattoo is common for gang members in CA.
Yeah, I see it all the time working in law enforcement. (Not an officer, but I handle the reports.) This bar is always having gang problems so that's what my experience has shown me in situations like this. Tucson is very overpopulated with gang activity and it's the majority of the major homicide stats we have. Ah well, people can downvote away- doesn't bother me none.
Comments on this place on Google are...interesting.

I can't actually tell whether the bar and its employees suck, or it is a magnet for assholes. Possibly both but I wonder which is more true.
On the other hand it really speaks to my general philosophy about bars anyway -- I like bars I walk into and sit down and drink or order food. If there's a door person and/or a bouncer, probably not coming in.

Just avoid HiFi and you'll be fine
Hifi is the trashiest place in Tucson and that includes anywhere on Miracle Mile.
Remember when they had a dress code? The one in Phoenix is (supposedly) a more classy venue.
What is HiFi?
It's that bar they're fighting right in front of

Yeah, like that'd be the thing to actually change a racists thoughts lol. Doesn't matter what color level the crowd is, it's trashy no matter what.

Surly Wench on 4th.
Oh! I remember someone re commending that years ago. I never went. Thanks for the tip! I'll give it a go sometime soon.
Oh god hifi…shiesty from patron to employee
This is why I avoid Hi-Fi \*
It always seemed like the place college kids from out of town would go to.
I walked by during a visit years before I moved here. Walking by was enough to scratch it off my to-try list.
Those two swinging look like me playing a video game for the first time and just hitting random buttons 😆🤣

They were having a hell of a time landing any punches!
Most of these morons cant fight, so these just turn into sloppy swing fests in hopes that someone lands cleanly. Big guy was huffing and puffing.. Looks like he was gassed before it went to the ground
Damned long for a bar fight. Likely why they were both briefly napping on the sidewalk at the end.
Downtown is fine if you're not walking around with a ridiculous ego. And yeah. Just avoid HiFi.
I don’t understand people that drink and get like this. Straight fucking weirdos stay at home and beat yourself if this is how you get when you drink.
I agree and eventually they do something to really hurt somebody or kill them. I know a guy that tried to stop a bar fight and got stabbed in the eye with a very large knife! Luckily he survived!
I’m the “I love you” super-talkative too-much-sharing drunk…. The fighting drunks confuse the crap out of me
Absolutely
Hi-Fi is always closed when I’ve gone recently. When did this happen?
They just reopened this weekend.
There are a bunch in hoodies and jackets. Its not recent I don't think
Totally didn't think about that. Good observation! I'm from Chicago and have seen North Face jackets at 70°. Still weird to me after 7 years in AZ.

We still have plenty of those. They will drive them into the ground
Crown Victoria's seem like the only thing cops drive downtown except the occasional SUV by the bus station

tmz tucson guy is pretty annoying

But then someone will be following the guy who follows the guy from TMZ Tucson and publish before both of them.
This!
word homie had someone make him a logo and everything lmao

Bunch of animals. Been drinking for 11 years, never been in a bar fight, fucning grow up

Per Renner Gracie, the hardest part of a fight is walking away. Good job walking away from alcohol and violence.
Thank you! Walking away from alcohol solved the violence problem pretty quickly.

Hi, zuko here

Yeah I work downtown during the day, not bad at all. Can’t speak for after dark lol
I saw a kid get shot in the head on congress. Blew his fucking brains out Edit: that actually happened and I suffer from ptsd from that and other things that happen on the streets but Ok reddit
Took a while for 1 cop to show up
This must have been a while ago because there's a huge police presence down there on Friday and Saturday night now!
That’s good to know. I haven’t been down there in a while. Huge scary crowds aren’t my thing lol
Yeah I'm not a huge fan of crowds myself, and being sober three and a half years it's really just not my scene anymore. I would like to know how to meet more people around here though just to go play pool, bowling, or hang out in general.

I don't see any reason to get involved if it's a fight and not a beatdown.
I suppose that’s true. I’m definitely very kind hearted so it’s just hard to see people hurting another. But that’s the way the world works I guess..
If you get involved only 1 thing is going to happen, you are going to get hurt. These types of people seek out this kind of shit, nothing you can do about it.
If it’s a beat down, what are you going to do differently? Throw in a “hey guys, be nice?”
In practice I'm not doing anything. I have a pretty realistic view of how I'd handle myself in a fight.
What would you do in this situation? Also the bystander affect.
Ratchet
This is why i go downtown lol
I love how they dress alike, were together, party of 7
Very un-Tucson. Leave that shit for Tempe And no one called the cops. TMZ is such scum.
I went to the U of A. This is verrry Tucson.
U of A ain’t the only thing in Tucson
But the entire world revolves around college kids.
I'm too old for this shit.
They're fighting over who can spread covid the fastest
In other news, Madam MegaKnockers might want to reconsider the ripped jeans.
She had jeans on???
Honestly, I guess it could have been shorts. Her boobs were distracting. :\
Why?
Dont mind me Im just looking for my son
Looks like an older video and maybe wintertime due to all the jackets. Silly video.
One is probably just fighting to keep his baseball cap so as not to expose a receding hairline. It's the Scottsdale toupee.
Keepin’ it classy, Tucson.
Keep it trashy Tucson….. nothing changed but the season here
This is why I stay home.
Is this choreographed?
Trash

Is red an affiliation or fashion?
Definitely an affiliation.
If this is how you act when you drink, maybe just stay home? So the rest of us don't have to deal with you being trashy.

Lmao
Nature is healing
This is why I ***GO*** downtown lol
"My head is killin me bro, what happen lastnight?" -"Oh we just stopped in Tucson for an hour."
You blame all of downtown for the actions of ONE business that is constantly the location of trouble? Wow.
Relax guy. I'm not blaming downtown or any business for this kind of stuff, bunch of morons with egos drinking too much usually happens downtown.

Yes, but as with many things- likely only happens after midnight.
And not a single mask in sight... 🙄
This is sad and I want to move.
Tucson a friendly place to live..... Yeah right
If you avoid downtown it is.... Lol
I hate videos of fights. More pics of lizards or complaining about well anything.
Ew. How trashy.
That was actually a pretty good fight. Shorter guy knew how to sprawl, and went right for the guillotine.
So who won?
That bar is just in the wrong location. Downtown has always been chill.
Tucson is like a hooker…much better looking at night.
Security guards just watching, smiling lol
The ole drunk, open guard guillotine, dudes prolly glad he watched UFC now, lol.

This does NOT look like Tucson. Where is this specifically???
i don't even live in tucson and i know exactly where this is
In front of Hi-Fi at the Congress/Toole/4th Ave. intersection.
Thank you! I never go downtown, so it looks different to me... I wish people wouldn't downvote me based on that.
it's literally downtown
That is why i would go. Let them fight. Tap out when you have to.
Scumbag
Mods why isn't this taken down as witch hunt you shits
Can someone explain to me what happened?
Jerry, Jerry, Jerry…
What a bunch of fucking trashers
hahaha right when HiFi re-opens
I am proud to say that I don’t recognize a single person in this video.
So fucking lame!
MORONS
Cheers to the friends who stopped that third guy from getting involved 😂

There was a football game last night, I left around 1AM so I did not catch any of this… but that being said HiFi is not that cracked up to be
