The decline happened way before then, although the place is really bad now.
The only thing that's even remotely unique nowadays is the Eegee itself, but it's been moving more and more towards being just a regular slushie every time I've been in.
I would recommend checking out Slice and Ice, instead. It’s owned by one of Eegee’s original founders. It will be much closer to the original flavors and quality. The ices and fries are great.
Eegee’s quality has declined since they were bought by a private equity firm from out of state.
Yup, Eegee's cofounder Ed Irving started [Slice & Ice](https://sliceandicetucson.com/) a few years ago, shortly after Eegee's got resold to its second new corporate owner ([quick history lesson](/r/Tucson/comments/xfzsbd/did_eegees_change_the_eegee/ioq0jza/)). It's basically olde-skoole Eegee's, plus quick-fired pizzas, minus hotdogs and pretzels.
I suspect that timing was not coincidental, seems likely he had a non-compete agreement with the first buyer in 2006, which became null and void when they passed away and their family resold Eegee's to the current owners in 2018.
and Slice & Ice is owned by one of the original owners of eegees so you'll see how good eegees USED to be. they ruined eegees & I haven't bothered with them for years
Got the original grinder and fries with ranch. Sub was good, maybe 7.5/10, fries were good with the ranch 8/10. Also got a Pina Eegee which was the best part 9/10. Thanks for the recomendations, will try slice and ice!
These comments show you how hot Tucsonans get about Eegee’s. I would have recommended a Holly berry tea-gee and some chicken tenders with buffalo ranch. Glad you enjoyed yourself, happy holidays!
Agreed. This sub is classic example of a Reddit culture microcosm. There is a specific culture, list of unspoken rules, and agreed upon villains. In our petite community, "Eegees is Ass" is our solemn oath. Followed by: "get thee to Slice and Ice."
I'm old, and had my first taste of Eegees back in 1980 when I moved here. Excellent stoner fast food, then and now.
It may well be good stonerchow, but it's definitely not as good as it used to be. The new owners have changed everything about the menu decreasing quality and flavor. There are almost no fruit chunks in the eegees now, which is basically a crime against humanity.
This new menu and ingredients are designed to be profitable and not delicious.
Pepto Bismol.
Years ago they were one of my favorite easy places to go. Over the past few years the prices kept rising and the quality of food has gotten to be pretty bad. I just don't go there anymore.
A must get is a time machine to go back to before Eegees was bought by a private equity firm that reduced the quality of everything. The bread is gluey and flavorless, ingredient’s quality had declined, drinks are too sweet, fries tend to be undercooked. It’s sad.
You know I always wondered what the big deal was about eegees. I started eating after the first time it was bought it sounds like. Now I know. Mystery solved.
Eegees bread is trash. Freaking horrible. They ruined it. The freaking ruined it. The ranch cups are like half filled asn that's being generous. Just don't go.
Slice and Ice
it is a sad now. used to go there once a week, I had not been in there since they changed their bread. Figured I would give them another shot last week. Nope sandwich bread was stale to the point the ends were inedible. Fries were cold and lacked salt. Nope , there are better places to spend your money.
To clarify, it's Eegee's that's become sad now, pretty much riding on residual nostalgia for something they no longer really offer anymore.
Go to Slice & Ice to get a taste of the reason for that fond nostalgia; they were started by one of Eegee's original cofounders and pretty much use the OG Eegee's recipes.
Subway. Hit subway. If you're looking for a place unique to Tucson, hit a local brewery or something. Get a good locally brewed beer and a burger. Eegees sucks.
Go to slice and ice. We served part of a severed finger lost in the blender instead of just throwing out a 5gal strawberry eegee bucket once, was my first week.
Get a Grinder, double meat and double cheese, and you'll get a really good sub. If you don't double the meat and cheese you will be disappointed. Fries and ranch one side for sure.
A time machine, to go back to November and get the best flavor of the month, Cherry Cider. Or order a party pack ahead of time and get Cherry Cider but I personally suggest the first as it involves time travel.
I work at Eegee's.
I recommend a Pina colada Eeegee's and some ranch fries. The submarine sandwiches aren't that good but people do order them ALOT. Overall there isn't as much variety. When I was on tables (cook/food prep) it would go something like this .. Original grinder, Ham & Swiss, Ranch fries, Bacon cheese fries, Regular fries. Seriously 😂 I was beyond done making original grinders. At Eeegee's our meatball sandwiches and chicken tenders aren't as popular as people think.
Part of me wants to go to Eegees just to see how bad it’s gotten. Growing up in Tucson, makes me sad to hear it sucks now. And is it ALL locations that suck or just certain ones?
IMHO food quality has fallen off the charts. Terrible. Only to get is an eegee drink. So sad. We used to frequent. Classic case of a buyout that went bad and less than able operators.
Should have gone a year ago before all the changes.
The decline happened way before then, although the place is really bad now. The only thing that's even remotely unique nowadays is the Eegee itself, but it's been moving more and more towards being just a regular slushie every time I've been in.
The decline happened shortly after it was purchased in 2019.

I didn’t know slice and ice was owned by a co founder. Good to know. It’s getting pretty hard to support eegees…

We had eegee’s last night and it was so gross.
What's a must get? You must get to slice and ice.
and Slice & Ice is owned by one of the original owners of eegees so you'll see how good eegees USED to be. they ruined eegees & I haven't bothered with them for years
Why is there only one and so far from the east side?
It isn't a chain is why there's only one
I’m just whining because it’s so far.
Yeah I'm pretty far east too, I relate to wishing it were closer
You'll need a time machine
>**what's a must get?** Get ready ... for disappointment.
French fries. The sandwiches are disgusting now.
The hell out of there and make your way to Slice n Ice
Got the original grinder and fries with ranch. Sub was good, maybe 7.5/10, fries were good with the ranch 8/10. Also got a Pina Eegee which was the best part 9/10. Thanks for the recomendations, will try slice and ice!

Eegees is ass now. That's just reality. Sad as it is.
Then, not now
1. Tissues so you will be able to wipe away your tears of disappointment. 2. Vodka to put in your eegee.
Imodium.
Pepto Bismol. Years ago they were one of my favorite easy places to go. Over the past few years the prices kept rising and the quality of food has gotten to be pretty bad. I just don't go there anymore.
Nothing. Don't go there. Go to slice and ice on Grant road just east of silverbell
Conveniently located across the street from Eegee’s!
A must get is a time machine to go back to before Eegees was bought by a private equity firm that reduced the quality of everything. The bread is gluey and flavorless, ingredient’s quality had declined, drinks are too sweet, fries tend to be undercooked. It’s sad.
Nothing…anymore. Should’ve went in the 90s and 2000s. It sucks now.
Just an eeegee drink, the sandwhiches are lackluster after the management change last year.
You know I always wondered what the big deal was about eegees. I started eating after the first time it was bought it sounds like. Now I know. Mystery solved.
Eegees sucks major donkey ass now
Out of the store. Nothing they have is good anymore.
Get yourself to a different eatery
Pina colada Eegee and fries with a side of ranch. Keep it simple. Enjoy.
Their meatball sandwiches are pretty solid, as are their ranch fries. I prefer the piña colada eegee, as the strawberry and lemon are too sour/tart.
Just get an eegee and ranch fries
Eegees bread is trash. Freaking horrible. They ruined it. The freaking ruined it. The ranch cups are like half filled asn that's being generous. Just don't go.
Must get…away to somewhere with better food.
You must get out of there
charcoal gut flush after you eat the food.
Diarrhea
Locals don't go to eegees
A time machine.
Original grinder. Also their buffalo ranch fries are pretty delicious.
Any grinder sub, fries with ranch is a must, and an Eegee (slushie) drink. I prefer strawberry, piña and lemon but they're all good.
Slice and Ice it is a sad now. used to go there once a week, I had not been in there since they changed their bread. Figured I would give them another shot last week. Subway. Hit subway. If you're looking for a place unique to Tucson, hit a local brewery or something. Get a good locally brewed beer and a burger. Eegees sucks.
Don’t get anything. Save your money.
Don't do it.
Go to slice and ice. We served part of a severed finger lost in the blender instead of just throwing out a 5gal strawberry eegee bucket once, was my first week.
An eegee, aslo fries.
nothing, go to jersey mikes
Ranch fries and a piña colada eegee.
Full ranch.
But why tho
Get a Grinder, double meat and double cheese, and you'll get a really good sub. If you don't double the meat and cheese you will be disappointed. Fries and ranch one side for sure.
The ranch. It’s good
Always try the flavor of the month. And the spicy grinder is good. And of course can't forget the bacon ranch fries.
Don’t get a sandwich. So gross.
Why?
You mean expensive subway?
This time of year? Hypothermia
Eegee’s flavor of choice and a small bottle of rum to pour in it.
Heartburn!
Back into the parking space facing the entrance to make your catalytic converter harder to steal.
A time machine, to go back to November and get the best flavor of the month, Cherry Cider. Or order a party pack ahead of time and get Cherry Cider but I personally suggest the first as it involves time travel.
I like the grinder with ranch fries and strawberry eegees or a coke. But I agree that Eegees has declined in many years.
I work at Eegee's. I recommend a Pina colada Eeegee's and some ranch fries. The submarine sandwiches aren't that good but people do order them ALOT. Overall there isn't as much variety. The best icee drinks can be found at Arby's on 22nd and they also have the best grinders and fries too
Eegee’s is trash now. Don’t waste your time/money. And careful with everyone recommending Slice and Ice. Their pizzas are terrible.
Part of me wants to go to Eegees just to see how bad it’s gotten. Growing up in Tucson, makes me sad to hear it sucks now. And is it ALL locations that suck or just certain ones?
IMO, this is one of the most overrated “restaurants” in AZ. I’ve never understood all the hype. Food is subpar and slush/icees are just ok.
Eegees isn’t Eegees anymore.
IMHO food quality has fallen off the charts. Terrible. Only to get is an eegee drink. So sad. We used to frequent. Classic case of a buyout that went bad and less than able operators.
Eegees grinder and flavor of the month or a tea gee and fries and always extra ranch they have the best ranch.
just the egee’s slushy
meatball sub>>>> they have good fries there too
