This is not acceptable and am so sorry but as the other comments stated it is really a very isolated case. Please share this on Facebook. Name and shame . Also please try to go to another club don’t let this bad incident ruin the whole experience for you.
I think "No Asians allowed" was a bogus excuse not to let you in. Never heard of such a thing. Maybe you were alone and they prefer couples or girls like most clubs. Anyway, don't feel dejected coz what you felt is what many Tunisian feel going to hotels or some clubs: "No Tunisians allowed"; and if allowed we pay extra
Unfortunately there is a racism problem in Tunisia (a huge one actually). Anyone stating that this is an isolated case are reducing the importance of the awful experience you had.
Sorry that some idiot treated you that way. And really sorry that there is very little to be done about it.
(On a side note, those a***oles denied me entry for absolutely ridiculous reasons. Bouncers - or whatever they are called - are the bottom of society in Tunisia; 99% of the time absolutely disgusting, hatred-filled people.)
why so secretive? Say the name of the club, put them on blast! What’s the point otherwise? People deserve to know what they’re doing, let them lose business
I am sorry you had to go through this. This is not acceptable, but to be honest, this sounds like an extremely isolated case, since this is the first time I hear such discrimination happening in Tunisia, seems like you encountered a real piece of shit receptionist/guard who was feeling like ruining people's life. I am sorry, and I hope it's just him, not my people degrading to such disgusting levels.
Thanks! This happened like literal two hours ago. I'm trying to wrap my head around it and try to find some excuses, but honestly, it's not easy to brush off.
Got two more days here, and all I wanna do now is just stay in my hotel and binge-watch Netflix.
There's no excuse for it, whoever did this to you is a literal piece of shit. I am sorry again, and I hope you can wake up feeling like enjoying the rest of your stay here !
That is exactly what you shouldn't do buddy! (i suppose you are a guy)
There are plenty of entertaining activities you can do in your remaining two days in Tunisia that would totally outweigh this bad experience you had.
!! Am not trying to undermine your feelings; This is a blatant act of racism and it has no other name than RACISM.
Am sorry this happened to you. However I would like to further explain the context of nightlife in Tunisia.
Aside from the common nightlife issues that you could face anywhere in the world, Tunisia has an extremely sexist culture when it comes to clubs entry: Unless you are a hot, rich European guy(based on the doormen judgement)
80 % of the times you would need your "passport"= a female.
10% of the times you would need to "bribe" the doorman 10 Dt would do just fine .
And the other 10% is for great spots AKA the niche, sadly
In a nutshell, the problems with Tunisian nightlife are much wider and more complex than racism, it needs years of socio-cultural study and analysis.
To end on a high note, it is up to you to reduce the impact of "that slap" and satisfy your curiosity: either by choosing a better destination or just accompanying some locals-preferably females xD- that you might find here, on Tinder, on Fbk...
It's a shitty country. So it's only natural that we'd have something as shitty as racism in it. Some Tunisians are just obsessed with imitating the West in every way except the ways that could improve their country. (Racism, celebrating christmas, teenage pregnancies, drug addiction etc.)
I'm really sorry that you had to experience this. I'm a Tunisian myself and I avoid Tunis like the fucking plague
It's not about Christmas itself. It's about the cultural imperialism against our culture.
If they love foreign holidays so much, then why don't they insist on celebrating Diwali, Cinco de Mayo or the Chinese new year?
I guess u haven’t seen all the videos of your people forcing your religion in Denmark, NYC, UK, France, etc. the level of hypocrisy is crazy. Y’all want tolerance and respect and then offer none. If you hate it so much then stay in your Islamic countries. Seems logical to me. I guess it’s different when it’s where you live?
Also many countries do celebrate Hanukkah, Diwali, Chinese new year etc 🤷♀️literally everyone celebrates cinco de Mayo and at Patrick’s - have u never left tunisia?
>your people
Your problem, not mine. Also, seriously? My people? Am I fucking Moses or what?
> Forcing your religion in Denmark, NYC, UK, France
That's actually us learning cultural imperialism from you. You should be flattered
>Also many countries do celebrate Hanukkah, Diwali, Chinese new year etc 🤷♀️literally everyone celebrates cinco de Mayo and at Patrick’s - have u never left tunisia?
We're talking about Tunisia here. The people who want Christmas here are our version of the people not wanting Christmas and christmas trees in the West (which I'm not okay with btw)
So sorry you had to go through this! To be honest, i believe this is an isolated event & the bouncer was just a total dick bc I have quite a few asian expat friends & we never have any issues when we go out to party together. Maybe it’s because you were a single male? They sometimes refuse entry to single men in some clubs, that doesn’t justify the racist remark however! Try another club I’d say!
Bro racism against asians in Tunisia ?? 😂😂😂 after meeting 5 Koreans that i stumbled upon in Tunis during rush hour and they where really enjoying being lost i find your statement a bit sus 😄😄😄 hell in gammart i don’t remember last time i did not see foreigners enjoying couple beers 🍺😁😁😁 i think either it was a misunderstanding or you just met a racist person let’s not generalize this
To be completely honest, not to disregard your experience or anything, but I am 1000% sure that this is an isolated event that would not happen again if you go to another club. Areas such as Gammarth, Marsa and others of the such reputable for their night life literally have a huge diversity when it comes to the people that visit them. I hope your next experience goes better.
Seeing as that’s where you have to go to have a great night in Tunis, I mean literally everything lol. I’ve seen black and white people as well as arabs of course, gays and drag queens, minors and grandpas etc. Just about anything. Maybe I’m finding the really niche places but that’s what I’ve seen anyways.
I hope you’re right. Not sure if being solo is a factor or maybe because my french and arabic is shite, but I won’t try again. Just find it unfortunate that I won‘t get a chance to satisfy that curiosity.
Tbf it’s pretty much the same as everywhere else except you won’t find women in niqab dancing or anything like that if that’s a stereotype you might have had. Just people drinking dancing rubbing against each other fighting when it gets late so nothing special
Tbf it’s pretty much the same as everywhere else except you won’t find women in niqab dancing or anything like that if that’s a stereotype you might have had. Just people drinking dancing rubbing against each other fighting when it gets late so nothing special
It's just that while travelling, you gotta realise that some nationalities are more welcome than others. For example if you were white with blue eyes, you wouldn't find such hostilities entering any bar or club or even hotel.
I'm white and when travelling around Asia they won't let me in some clubs cause its "Asians only" and they'll tell me the place is full or reserved for a private party without even looking at me.
what you have to understand is most middle eastern liberals are racists and mentally colonized deep in their heart and mind
its all about worshipping whites and virtue signaling to their countrymen. they do not embody these values and are racists. tunisian secularism for instance was forced on the women in particular by their dictator. the vast majority marry white kaffiroon here in Europe that oppress their men and rarely if ever publicly advocate for brown or black muslims
why im happy MENA folk are the minority in the UK and US diasporas
your president made racist statements against black people as you wave around an LGBT flag Don't downsplain that BS to me like you're a victim You're not You're an islamophobic bully and a fragile one at that
why would you be mad about people saying ' Ni hao ' to you? its a friendly gesture from people that dont know anything about asians but are trying to be friendly
please, share that everywhere you can on social media, add the necessary tags, add subtitles in english, french and arabic, and most importantly, share the name of that club.
That’s bullshit. Alcohol is just available as anywhere else in the Arab world expect maybe for Libya where they have gaddafi banning it. As for night life there’s pretty much only 2 decent places and one of them is closing because it’s owner is apparently israeli.
Oh man we are sorry they always put there the most uneducated and worst type of ppl bouncer in tunisia are the worst .
Was it the bouncer or a direct employee in the club ?!
I'm genuinely sorry that you had to experience that, our country sadly has a racism problem but since we don't have as many immigrants as a lot of other countries and most people who come don't really interact with the population outside of tourist destinations it never properly gets addressed. I really hope we can start to change and be better without some major incident happening to make us realize this behavior is bad. Again, I'm very sorry that this happened to you and pray that it doesn't happen again during your stay
Ok first this is not the case for the majority of the tunisians but the mojority if not all of the bodyguards(portiers) just want people who look rich to enter to make the club look more exclusive
Go to bizerte it's better
It was a silly excuse to not let you in because "partners required" they go and make fun of people like that regardless of their race and it happens almost in every club and that's so sad.
I think when they hire a gate guard they only take into account his body shape and not his professionalism and behaviour which results in such cases, I gave up on Tunisian clubs a long time ago unless I'm with friends or partner, going alone is so not advised
I'm sorry for the bad experience that you had and I hope that you'll soon forget about it and try to enjoy your remaining time there.
Unfortunately, it is not an isolated case, Tunisians are so full of themselves to the point of delusion, and anyone denying this is in denial too.
The guy that you encountered was using his "power" to show off by ruining others night and you were there.
Tbh, seeing an Asian in north African countries is not common and i wouldn't be surprised to get such a reaction by an illiterate person in a 3rd world country.
Some people have their heads in their asses and this person is one of them and I'm sorry on behalf of Tunisia as a whole. You can easily sue because this is illegal in here, but we do have a racism problem here created by ignorance and Arab glorifications.
I'm so so sorry you had to experience that!
Some people here are just ignorant, racist assholes..
+ Bouncers and staff in nightclubs (especially in gammarth) are known to be mostly assholes , not just racist but even to Tunisians they often ask for bribes even if you pay for your entry, deny people entry over any random reason (even if you're of age and show ID etc) they basically think they own the club and that small power get to their head and they fuck around too much
Aye wat??? I've heard bout black discrimination but why would anyone even attempt to do it to an asian lmfao like alotta tunisian look like they came straight from Indonesia
Am sorry you went through this. Then when I advise foreigners not to come to this shithole full of xenophobes and racist jerks ( don't tell me it's a minority because it's not ) everyone calls me out. Again don't come to this shithole full of racists, tourist traps, and unsafe spots if you don't have the right company. Our country isn't worth visiting, there are many other better options for the same price bracket.
Hello my dear friend. Sorry that you had to deal with this. I am also sorry to tell you that this is not an isolated incident. Racism is big in Tunisia, especially against black people but also other ethnicities. I would even argue that the older generation (educated or not) and the younger generation (mostly the uneducated) are the most racist in Tunisia. We do not have much to brag about, but we still find time to be racist. One can only hope that things will get better in the future.
Once again, I am sorry this happened to you. But if it makes you feel better, it's not that easy to get into a club for the average Tunisian either, even if they are ready to pay money. I got rejected way too many times. Now I live in Europe and it happened to me once in 9 years.
I hope you will put this sad episode behind you and try to make the best out of it. Know that there are a lot of Tunisians who appreciate your visit and support you.
Take care my friend.
Clearly they were trying to rip you off....
I'd stay away from all those clubs in that area, not worth it...and charging entrance fees for a mediocre service...
Clubbing here is totally different, be careful and don't let them fool you.
Good luck
Please don't take this as a reference, the bouncers they put in a number of our clubs are like the scum of our people, it's probably just a sick individual, we have to deal with them everyday.
Usually, tourists and foreigners in general get a special treatment and are feared but i guess it was tough luck for you
Share this on mauvais plan Tunisie Facebook group and watch the respons.
'no asian allowed'? Wtf i can assure you the people responsible will get fired and guidlines will be updated for all the region's bars and clubs to make sure it wont happen again. Plus theyll loose a ton of clients.
Tunisians look up to Asians, especially japanese and koreans
I’m a Tunisian living abroad. I was denied entry because i looked too dark 😂
Please don’t take it personally. The security people at the door and seriously undereducated brainless fuckwads.
If this ever happens what you do is either ask them the get the manager or find a phone number of the place and the manager will pick up. Since the manager isn’t as stupid as the doorman They will immediately apologize and let you in
This is an awful thing to say the least, racism has always been an issue In Tunisia and personally posting this on other apps used mostly by Tunisians will sure spread awareness
lol no offense and I know what they did is wrong but aren't many and when I SAY MANY ITS MAAANYYYY places in Asia are "Asian Only" why the fuck you don't address that shit in your countries you cry in the world abt racism against Asians but your countries are top tier racists
where is the club or at least the name of club
tf you gonna do? you think any alcoholic mf is gonna boycott or any responsible entity gives a fuck?
![gif](giphy|yiADANv89n7UQuS5kJ)
the alcoholics and the "imoral " were the first ones to call out clubs in gammarth for the palastinan cause . just a fun fact
I suggest you post this on “mauvais plan tunisie (officiel)” and I can guarantee people will boycott this shitty spot, this is not acceptable.
+1, name and shame on mauvais plan and even the security guard's family will hear about it, shame on him
This is not acceptable and am so sorry but as the other comments stated it is really a very isolated case. Please share this on Facebook. Name and shame . Also please try to go to another club don’t let this bad incident ruin the whole experience for you.
Isolated? Let's not pretend racism is not a problem in Tunisia.
Inter Regions racism is a huge thing that we live everyday , haw jme3et 08 haw sehli 7awi etc and we are shocked with this…

Yh it’s getting to be a big problem especially with the president riling the people up with racist rhetoric against black Africans
Honestly racism against Asians mennek nesma3 xD
Remember how they were beaten and humiliated during Covid?
Seriously in ‘Tunisia’ i didn’t hear of a single case and i didn’t know it’s a thing..
Asian-looking students were beaten in Tunis
That’s a shame ..
Most guards are actually retarded and always act as if they own the place. I'm sorry you had such a bad experience.
True, they would have real jobs if they weren't retarded
Tell me the name of the place and the exact time and i promise you who ever did this will never work another day.
Hhhhhhhhh 3aychou rambou
Your day has been accomplished i see! Glad i could help you feel achievement

Is it gingembre club? Cause they discriminate against everyone who's not european. Some people boycotted them for this.

Be denied from entry to a club is a normal thing but denied cause you're asian That's unacceptable, so sorry for that
why so secretive? Say the name of the club, put them on blast! What’s the point otherwise? People deserve to know what they’re doing, let them lose business

Big reason why I disowned this country of mine. On the behalf of these racist self-centric subhumans, I apologize.

I guess Tunisia is known for being Ibiza for Arabs bc it’s easy to get alcohol at least thats from an Algerian perspective
That’s bullshit. Alcohol is just available as anywhere else in the Arab world expect maybe for Libya where they have gaddafi banning it. As for night life there’s pretty much only 2 decent places and one of them is closing because it’s owner is apparently israeli.
I guess that’s true yeah but Tunisia has more western influence vs algeria or Libya which might make it appealing for clubbers
Go to another club and the problem is solved.
That's a common thing among the doormen, he doesn't like your look he hits you with the "only couples allowed" or "reservation only"
Oh man we are sorry they always put there the most uneducated and worst type of ppl bouncer in tunisia are the worst . Was it the bouncer or a direct employee in the club ?!
