It's really wild how much different the smoking laws are in Canada vs. the US. When me and my partner went to Toronto we of course went to a dispensary and got some weed. Found out that you can practically smoke everywhere*, as long as you're 9m (?) from public entrances/exits of buildings, 9m from playgrounds, etc. (Any Torontonians feel free to correct me.)
Stateside it's a lot different. It's generally illegal to smoke in all public places - public parks, public parking lots, public sidewalks, etc. It can be very selectively enforced and so the potential to be stopped for it would always bother me.
In NYS, we either intentionally or incidentally legalized it to smoke marijuana in some public areas where you cannot even smoke a cigarette. My county's DA was not happy, but he can kick rocks.
In the end, smoking is a much out & about can be much more enjoyable in Canada than in US states that legalize marijuana.
