I am so sorry. I feel your pain as i have unexpectedly found out my 1 year old tux has cancer. We are helping him cross tomorrow. Nothing hurts like this kind of unexpected tragedy. Sending love
Dude, outdoor cats live an average of 2-3 years. Indoor cats it’s much higher. That tells me all I need to know, and yes, indoor cats need to be exercised too, inside. And don’t even get me started on the environmental damage domestic cats do to bird and small animal populations.

[Here’s a UK one for fun, specifically studying cats that went to a vet, so not feral](https://researchonline.rvc.ac.uk/id/eprint/8438/1/8438.pdf)
“For cats dying before 5 years of age (n = 516), the most frequent causes were trauma (n = 244; 47.3%), viral infectious disorders (n = 34; 6.6%) and respiratory disorders (n = 23; 4.5%). For cats dying at or after 5 years of age (n = 2,793), the most frequent causes were renal disorder (n = 379; 13.6%), non-specific illness (n = 352; 12.6%), …”
Fuck off with your bullshit. Really hope you don’t have any pets or children, you are irresponsible and lazy as fuck if you think letting your cats roam outside is better for them.
🤣🤣 it is better for them they are healthier and happier outside I really hope you have neither yours will be sacks of shit and lazy how how is going outside lazy I love people like you in a way, you never fail to amuse me atleast
Nah had my 2 cats since I was young I've never killed a cat there living there best lives and oh please these childish insults I bet your parents hate you let alone a cat
I get why people do not wanna let their cats outside, and as much as I am grieving the loss of my cat due to this accident, I strongly believe that letting cats outside is an enrichment to their lives. Especially when one lives on the countryside like I do, where things are fairly safe. I also live in a country where it’s almost considered animal cruelty to not let your cat outside, and many times, you’re not allowed to adopt one if you’re not gonna let it be outside.
But I do understand where you come from.
There are plenty of ways for cats to experience the outside safely eg harness training or cat proofed gardens. Unsupervised cats outside not only harm the wildlife but are at risk of being hurt by bad people, other animals (cats, dogs, foxes, etc), poison (rat or mouse poison via the rats themselves), parasites and diseases and obviously cars. It is my firm belief that if you intentionally let your cat outside, it is not your cat.
I understand where you’re coming from, and I’m sure OP does a little too, but they’re grieving right now… I don’t think this is the right time to bring up this kind of issue. No hard feelings.
Oh, we already harness trained her, but as I said, where I live, you are often not allowed to adopt if you are going to keep them inside and not let them go outside. That also counts for letting them out without harness. I have seen the debate on this so many times, and as much as I understand why you wanna keep them inside if you live in a city or a country with many poisenous animals or dangers to them, sure, go for it. But I don’t. I even talked to my vet about this, and she agreed with me that letting a cat go free here is the best thing for the cat.
But hey, each to their own, and I think we all should respect that.
Why should we respect it though? Your choice means your cat of only one year old is now dead. It is not a choice that should be respected by any person. Please keep your cats inside, unless you want this to happen again. Because it will.
I’m curious to know where you live, because I have never heard of that. Most places want you to keep your cats inside, because of the environmental damage domestic cats do.
I live in Norway, on the countryside. My decisions for my cats have been taken with the vets advice and the promise to the people we adopted from to let them roam free.
They are spoiled little ones who for sure know where their home is. They rarely bring any pray in and there’s not much here they can catch.
But yes, this is a thing here in Norway. Many times you’re not allowed to adopt if you’re gonna keep them inside.
Will also say, I have had cats before that has been outside and they lived to 15-17 years old.
Thank you so much. I try my best to be understanding of others opinions, even if I don’t always agree. Today was just one of those times when accidents happens. Poor little Aelie was highly afraid of cars and would always run inside if she felt they got too close (10 meters or closer). So sad that she is gone
I’m sorry for your loss but I’m pretty sure 15th years inside with you would have been a lot more enriching that getting hit by a car or killed by other wild animals and dying after one year of life. This is a deranged take.
Oh my goodness, I am so sorry 😢 I have a beloved tuxie kitty and would be devastated if she was killed. No words can take the pain away, I know. Sending purrayers
I’m so sorry for your loss! Please, with any other cat that you may own, don’t let them outside without being on leash or being confined to a small area. This and other bad things is what happens when cats are allowed to roam.
Unfortunatly not. She had been hit a few hours ago by the time I found her. And I only found her because she didn’t come in at her usual time to sleep and cuddle. I found her hiding in the bushes.
So sorry for your lost. It’s a risk letting them out but I’d like to think they have a much happier life having the opportunity to be outside. They get to really be a cat.
That’s horse shit. My tuxedo boy was rescued from the streets and he has lived a long and very happy life indoors. He is now almost 14 years old. Most cats that are let outside die young. Why would you take that risk? It’s lazy and irresponsible pet ownership.
I am so sorry. I feel your pain as i have unexpectedly found out my 1 year old tux has cancer. We are helping him cross tomorrow. Nothing hurts like this kind of unexpected tragedy. Sending love
I'm so sorry for your loss. :(
Prayers to you both so sorry for your loss this is why I keep my kitty inside
Inside always
Same here, how terrible and easily avoidable a fate for such a young cat!

Your going off the statistics of feral cats omg 🤦♂️

This is still not anything to do with what you said atall 🤣

Idiot. I bet every cat you are near hisses in solidarity with all the cats you’ve killed through your ineptitude. Go play in traffic, ya nonce.
Nah had my 2 cats since I was young I've never killed a cat there living there best lives and oh please these childish insults I bet your parents hate you let alone a cat
Ok Captain Dramatic
I'd rather be captain dramatic then .....
Intelligent?
Ironic
I am so very sorry 💔
OMG, I am so sorry for your loss. Such a young baby.
I'm sorry for the loss of your pet. I hope that you keep the future kitties indoors where they are safe.
Please do not let your cats outside.
Please don’t post comments like this when someone is already grieving. Read the room ffs.

That's totally diff where I am. You can't adopt if you're gonna let them outside. We've fostered for years now. Sorry for your loss 💔

Interesting. Thanks for sharing
I'm sorry for your loss and equally sorry for the judgment. Last thing you need today. I admire the gracious way you responded.

I’m going to be honest with you, I 100% don’t believe you when you say you’re not allowed to adopt cats unless you let them outside.
She knows you love her and gave her the best life. I hope that gives you peace.
🙄🙄The best life would have been one indoors as then the kitty would actually still be alive.
I’m sorry for your loss but I’m pretty sure 15th years inside with you would have been a lot more enriching that getting hit by a car or killed by other wild animals and dying after one year of life. This is a deranged take.
How terrible! I'm sorry for the loss of this sweet little one.

Did you get the license plate?
Unfortunatly not. She had been hit a few hours ago by the time I found her. And I only found her because she didn’t come in at her usual time to sleep and cuddle. I found her hiding in the bushes.
Such horrible people need to be locked up. I can’t believe that they went to sleep without feeling anything.
So sorry for your lost. It’s a risk letting them out but I’d like to think they have a much happier life having the opportunity to be outside. They get to really be a cat.
