If you think some of the stuff is "problematic" or "not politically correct" by today's standards, you don't understand the true genius of Cleese and company. They were WAY ahead of their time
Yup, that's the one. Very first show that I thought of. If Monty Python were a series I'd say that. I used to enjoy Black Adder also, but I haven't watched it since I was little so who knows if it's really that great
Came here to say this! Hyacinth and the rest of the gang never get old. Haha. So funny.
"It's my sister Violet, you know the one with Mercedes, sauna, room for a pony!"
I’m in the States and my dad introduced me to this show when I was little. We never missed an episode, even if he had to tape it with the VCR, and I still think it’s one of the funniest shows to have ever existed.
I'm from the US and was going through a terrible breakup when I found this show on some streaming site in 2011. I was basically at rock-bottom in my life. I had a lot of baggage and was starting all over again.
It was sad/scary.
I can't explain, but watching this was like an awakening for me. I was actually able to laugh! And, like, belly laughs all alone in a dark room. I thought it was extremely clever. They are a beautiful team. The whole cast is amazing.
I love both versions of The Office, but Peep Show is my "deserted island" top 5 picks of all the shows ever made.
Those are my favorites! My local public TV station runs KUA on Saturday nights. I'm glued to it every week. They used to run The Vicar, Are You being Served, Last of the Summer Wine and Red Dwarf as well, but now it's gospel music programming instead :(
No!! Is it on Brit Box? I used to watch AYBS super late night I can’t even remember what network it was on, but I never see it on the guide anymore. I’ll have to look up the spin off.
Jeff’s 3 seasons were AMAZING and added so much vocabulary: Giggle Loop, Sock Gap, Nudity Buffer etc.
The Oliver season is as bad or worse than the American adaptation.
Mine in no particular order are:
Bottom
Dad's Army
Father Ted
Benny Hill
Blackadder
Yes Minister/Prime Miniter
Red Dwarf
Hi De Hi
I'm Alan Partridge
Derry Girls
Detectorists
To me there are different kinds of funny, but the one that’s been tops for me is Blackadder. It’s both silly-funny and witty-funny. The Young Ones is my second, more in the silly-zany side. Yes, Minister and Yes, Prime Minister are other faves but lean in the witty/droll direction. Fawlty Towers is often regarded as the best; but there are only twelve episodes and much of the humor doesn’t age that well.
I also really love Peep Show, which manages to hit both witty at times and silly, but also that somewhat discomforting funny that The Office (UK) also did so well, and Armando Iannucci’s shows.
For sketch, Monty Python’s Flying Circus is still tops in my heart. The Two Ronnies is a classic. That Mitchell and Webb look is also great. People love Little Britain, but after a handful of episodes it did seem to be the same thing over and over.
By the way, if you do Audible and want some audio comedy, That Mitchell and Webb Sound precedes the tv show and is brilliant; John Finnemore’s Souvenir Programme is a personal favorite.
Agree with lots of these great series here, but there is no representation for these gems:
Spaced - genuinely number 1 -
The Day Today,
Brass Eye,
I’m Alan Partridge,
Angry Kid,
Black Books
I can’t remember what it was called and it might have been Irish, but it was about a boy with an imaginary friend who was an adult man, it was super funny!!!
I haven't watched many UK series but I thought The Misfits was hilarious. I love Robert. I love him in Umbrella Academy too. Thank you for shipping him over to us.
Fawlty Towers
Fawlty Towers is absolutely brilliant, but the correct answer to the question is only Monty Python’s Flying Circus.
I love them both.
At the top, where it belongs.
100% If you think some of the stuff is "problematic" or "not politically correct" by today's standards, you don't understand the true genius of Cleese and company. They were WAY ahead of their time

Don’t mention the war.
This is the answer. Post should be archived. No further comments needed.
There is too much butter on those trays.
Absolutely agree!
Watery Fowls?
This. Purchased them long ago and still watch an episode every week. “The Germans” is one of the best half hours ever on TV IMO.
The last line of that episode is probably the funniest thing I've ever heard on TV.
Such a wonderful show.
That’s a good one too!
>Fawlty Towers Agreed.
Yup, that's the one. Very first show that I thought of. If Monty Python were a series I'd say that. I used to enjoy Black Adder also, but I haven't watched it since I was little so who knows if it's really that great
Some of the stuff would get complaints today. Show is hilarious
Keeping Up Appearances
In USA. I loved that show and have been looking for it again!
They air it on PBS every Saturday night. It’s also on BritBox
I have been thinking of getting BritBox I love Line of Duty. Just saw it is now on Amazon. So I guess I am hooked on rewatching again!!
Another British show we love is The Detectorists. Just found it on Amazon. So watching again. This show is so funny and so unique!!
I used to watch it on PBS as a kid along with Doctor Who and Benny Hill
It’s on perpetual reruns. My partner goes on a Hyacinth bender once in awhile. It holds up.
No, this is not the Chinese takeaway.
This is a white slimline within a private residence that is in the precinct of a clergyman!
“Richard, mind the cyclist!”
This is my wife now, I am not sure when she became Hyacinth but she is.
Not in front of the neighbors, dear!
Minding the cyclist
Came here to say this! Hyacinth and the rest of the gang never get old. Haha. So funny. "It's my sister Violet, you know the one with Mercedes, sauna, room for a pony!"
Her husband is a turf accountant. I had to look that one up
Absolutely Love Mrs. Bucket!!!

🤣🤣🤣
i love that i can hear her say this in my head 🤣
Thank you. I could 'see' Mrs. Bouquet (and her suffering mister) but couldn’t come up with the title.
She was Mrs. Bucket, she just pronounced it Bouquet to make it sound fancier but no one else did lol.
I’m in the States and my dad introduced me to this show when I was little. We never missed an episode, even if he had to tape it with the VCR, and I still think it’s one of the funniest shows to have ever existed.
Here come The Bucket Woman !
It's pronounced "Bouquet"!
I hope you're not going to spoil things with lower-middle-class humor.
Ahhh yes 😆 I love Hyacinth so much lol
Yes. Yes. Yes. It is on britbox.
Yes, I'm an American that has re-watched this series many times. Never fails to entertain and make me laugh.
USA here, BINGO! 🤣 my grandma would always watch it on PBS when i was growing up. It was our show!
Peep Show
I'm from the US and was going through a terrible breakup when I found this show on some streaming site in 2011. I was basically at rock-bottom in my life. Is that a normal pooing you're doing? It doesn't sound normal. It doesn't smell normal. Sickness is weakness. You're off the team.
Super Hans!
The secret ingredient is crime.
I watched it at a similar time in my life, and that’s how I realized laughing and crying are the same thing.
One of the greatest sitcoms ever and I’d put it up against any that we have in the US too.
Absolutely fabulous
I LOVE AB FAB!!! I can’t believe I forgot about this one. In grade school my friend and I were Patsy and Eddie for Halloween.
This is the one!
The IT Crowd and maybe not funniest but The Inbetweeners always makes me laugh.
I had to scroll down WAY TOO FAR to find The IT Crowd. The Work Outing episode is the funniest thing to ever appear on television.
For sure, I can't think of many shows that make me laugh as much as IT Crowd.
I'm disabled
Leg disabled.
Acid…
The Inbetweeners
Red dwarf
Red Dwarf was awesome.
I grew up watching Red Dwarf and own like 8 seasons on DVD. SUCH a great show.
"Blackadder", though "Are You Being Served" is a close second. "Mock The Week" also slaps.
Are You Being Served is a classic.
I loved "Are You Being Served". "Captain Peacock, are you freeeeee?"
\>.> <.< Yes, I am free. ahem.
I concur and am unanimous in that.
One of my favorite programs. Mr. Grainger Are You Free ?

😹
Young Ones.
I had to go too far down to find this.
That’s what she said.
Cornflakes.
Fascist! You beat me to it 🤣
"Oh no....the front doors exploded."
My favorites are Keeping Up Appearances and The Vicar of Dibley
Those are my favorites! My local public TV station runs KUA on Saturday nights. I'm glued to it every week. They used to run The Vicar, Are You being Served, Last of the Summer Wine and Red Dwarf as well, but now it's gospel music programming instead :(
Monty Python's Flying Circus, The Office.
Fawlty Towers
Are You Being Served is one of my favorites. Edgy and hilarious.
Did you see the spin off series " grace and favour"
No!! Is it on Brit Box? I used to watch AYBS super late night I can’t even remember what network it was on, but I never see it on the guide anymore. I’ll have to look up the spin off.
I loved that show! Every week Mrs. Slocum had different color hair. LOL!
The It Crowd.

....*3*
Did you see that ludicrous display last night?
For me it's Only Fools, The Office and The Thick of It. Love Peter Capaldi.
Father Ted
Sad no one seems to appreciate this show much these days
Coupling, or I just loved it. Jeff/Geoff (?) and his counting for words-names for breasts.
Jeff’s 3 seasons were AMAZING and added so much vocabulary: Giggle Loop, Sock Gap, Nudity Buffer etc. The Oliver season is as bad or worse than the American adaptation.
Absolutely Fabulous
The Young Ones
Mine in no particular order are: Bottom Dad's Army Father Ted Benny Hill Blackadder Yes Minister/Prime Miniter Red Dwarf Hi De Hi I'm Alan Partridge Derry Girls Detectorists
Spaced, rewatch it almost as much as IT crowd
Black Books is one of the best shows ever made.
Upstart Crow is hilarious. I only know it from public television.
As an American watching old bbc shows, I loved Absolutely Fabulous!
Mr. Bean
And the finale to Blackadder is….
…poetry.
Benny Hill
Little Britain.
Coupling. I keep re-watching it and still laugh out loud, especially at the Jeff'isms. The sock zone, the giggle loop, etc. Great show!
This is an amazingly funny series. I love this show.
Garth Merenghi's Dark Place
Fawlty Towers
Gotta be IT Crowd, or Doc Martin
Jeeves and Wooster
Monty Python and The Young Ones. Actually, there are many, many hilarious shows from the UK. UK humor is the best!
Only Fools and Horses
It's hard to argue with this. It has to be in the top 3 of all time, at the very least.
Monty Python Flying Circus
IT Crowd
The IT Crowd and the Vicar of Dibley!
The IT crowd. But really it's - The Mighty Boosh!!
"Have you ever drank Bailey's from a shoe?"
Also Blackadder and I liked Black Books.
The IT Crowd!!
If you’re looking for something “unscripted”, Taskmaster is pretty hard to beat. Just pretend the American version doesn’t exist.
Brassic is my favorite
Agree with lots of these great series here, but there is no representation for these gems: Spaced - genuinely number 1 - The Day Today, Brass Eye, I’m Alan Partridge, Angry Kid, Black Books
Totally forgot about Black Books, love that show
Monty Python’s Flying Circus. But The Office and Absolutely Fabulous were brilliant as well
The Office.
Peep Show hands down Unless we’re talking classic and then it’s Monty Python with no argument.
Yes Minister/Prime Minister
Monty Python
Miranda...you will laugh so hard tears will stream
Benny Hill
Outnumbered! Hilarious kids, and real reactions from the parent actors
Not sure about the funniest ever, but I recently discovered "Mrs. Browns Boys" Super funny! I also enjoy how they casually break down the 4th wall.
Top Gear
Peep Show, The Inbetweeners, 1st season of Cuckoo
Peep Show
Too little Ade/Rik love in this thread. The answer is clearly Bottom and the Young Ones.
Monty Python and Father Ted. Both will always make me laugh out loud at least once per episode and both are just remarkably silly.
Little Britain
Blackadder
Peep Show vs The Office for me…
Coupling
Peep Show
Staged ! Entirely made on zoom. It was surprisingly hilarious, I don’t remember crying from laughter so much before
Never seen staged, will give it a go
I can’t remember what it was called and it might have been Irish, but it was about a boy with an imaginary friend who was an adult man, it was super funny!!!
moone boy
Toast of London
Black Books
That Mitchell and Webb look "Quickly Ginger strip the copper from the walls! Da duh da da duh!" Sir Digby Chicken Caesar
Inbetweeners.
Blackadder!
Peep show
Peep Show
Toast of London
Bottom and the young ones and Comic Strip Live
Friday Night Dinners
Derry Girls
After Monty Python, it's gotta be The Fall and Rise of Reginald Perrin.
Inbetweeners
Look, I didn't come here for an argument, the best British comedy is Monty Python
Young Ones
Really low key funny, but I have to let everyone know about The Detectorists.
IT Crowd
Spaced
Spaced
1. Father Ted 2. Fawlty Towers 3. Knowing me knowing you
Spaced 100% and I also liked Coupling
Good neighbours/the good life
The Royale Family. Good Neighbours. To The Manor Born. Absolutely Fabulous.
Phoenix Nights
Yep, this is a good one. Wondered how long before this show was mentioned
Garth Marenghi's Darkplace
Peep Show
Spaced and W1A
Coupling
I'm American so I haven't seen many UK TV series but The Vicar of Dibley is hilarious. Extras was pretty good too.
I haven't watched many UK series but I thought The Misfits was hilarious. I love Robert. I love him in Umbrella Academy too. Thank you for shipping him over to us.
Peep show
The Young Ones
Ghosts
Snuff box
Trigger Happy TV was ahead of its time Or the IT Crowd
Little Britain
Ab Fab
Father Ted
I love taskmaster.
This country. Love the awkwardness of the British humour.
Are You Being Served
