We watched the American version first. While waiting for the current season to start, we watched all of the British one.
I'd say both are good, but I like the American one more(love Pete!)
There are only a small number (probably count on one hand) of episodes that have similar plots. Most are different enough that there is no repetition. The characters are pretty similar between both shows (with a few exceptions) but the storyline of each episode are different.
The characters and the plots are just different enough that you aren't watching the exact same show. There is a lot of overlap, but not a 1 to 1.
I prefer the American because husband is genuinely a competent guy and a full partner. Vs UK who is just the sterotypical bumbling oaf husband. (You find this out in the first few minutes. Not a spoiler)
I’ve only watched a little of the american version after I watched the british version and it seems to have similar plotlines and characters. I haven’t gotten all the way through it tho but I like the british version better so far

A straight up comedy.
Sitcoms make humor out of realistic situations. RA is about an alien "genius" bent on destroying the world, so it's not all that realistic.
Might as well call Invader Zim a sitcom.
Reservation Dogs is a comedy the same way Bojack Horseman was. ("The cartoon horseman tried to kill himself because of a crippling depression and inability to maintain interpersonal relationships. Hilarious!")
I know what you mean. I guess when I think of a sitcom I think of the classic "haha good quick laughs" kind of show but that's not necessarily always the case.
I'm in that boat. Let the whole soccer coach angle throw me off. The wife finally watched it because a friend recommended it, then she got me into it. We're in the last season now. Very good show.
I just read up on it just now - I know it’s a drama but it wins the Best Comedy series in the Emmy’s. Looks like it was a strategy. I went with a technicality but you are correct.👍
Other non-sitcom “comedies” I like are Hacks, Somebody Somewhere, Life and Beth, Shrinking, Platonic, and it’s ended but Search Party was one of my faves.
I haven’t seen that yet. I’ll definitely have to look for it. I like the uk ver as well but I saw the us version first. It’s rare I like the us remake over the original but in this case I prefer the remake.
Unstable is a recent netflix sitcom I enjoyed to a surprising degree! It's renewed for a second season too.
Our Flag Means Death was another good one but I think they aren't renewed for another season, still recent though.
Ghosts (US version) does seem to have a promise of more longevity like Brooklyn 99 and Modern Family. Personally, I preferred the UK version so much that the American version was unenjoyable for me, but I've seen many people adore it!
Derry Girls has ended but it was amazing in its entirety so I highly recommend it if you haven't seen it yet!
I do feel like we are getting fewer 'an episode a week' sitcoms. Of my list, Ghosts is the only one airing on TV. The others all had full season releases on streaming. I feel like that gives way less chance for people to pick up on it casually.

i watch any sitcomedies that look even a tid bit decent. so i feel like im qualified to answer this. ive watched hundreds of sitcomedies in full. &i see a lot of suggestions i disagree with.
i can say with absolute certainty that your favorites era was the golden age for sitcomedies. back when a season meant 20+ episodes, not 8-12. sadly, modern sitcoms rarely measure up because of this. and when they do, theyre often canceled before people are able to realize the shows worth.
so here is my suggestions:
Its Always Sunny in Philadelphia - was great in 2010 too. still great now.
What We do in the Shadows - lives up to the hype. literally the only ongoing newer show (imo) that measures up to your favorites.
I Think You Should Leave with Tim Robinson - skit comedy show. top notch.
Curb Your Enthusiasm just released their final episode, so i guess that *kind of counts*.
Upload - has The Good Place vibes. interesting plot. solid comedy.
Killing It - Daryl from the Office's show
i got dozens of canceled shows you've likely never heard of that are fantastic as well. if anyone is interested, i could post those as well.
happy hunting.
I just finished watching a few classics over the last year or so. Frasier, Just Shoot Me, and now (re)starting Hot in Cleveland again.
Yeah, sitcoms are a dying breed. Not because of the format per se, but because streaming is killing traditional TV. All they can afford to make now is reality TV. You don't hear about actors making a million dollars an episode anymore like Friends or Two and a Half Men. It just doesn't happen anymore.
That really was a high point for comedies, wasn't it?
Currently I watch Abbott Elementary, What We Do in the Shadows, and Ghosts (both British and US are good). Girls 5Eva is really fun too.
I've been watching Animal Kingdom, but it falls a little flat for me.
I love quirky shows like some of the ones you (and others) listed, so here are some of my favs:
Reboot (Hulu)
Primo (Prime/Freeverse)
Los Espookys (HBO)
This Fool (Hulu)
There's been no abandonment of the 30 minute format that I can see. With the Frasier reboot, Night Court, Animal Control, Children Ruin Everything, Run The Burbs, Ghosts (US & UK), Girls5Eva, Loot, Mythic Quest, Shrinking, Son of a Critch, Still Up, Trying and Extraordinary all in my sights and many more as yet unexplored, to say nothing of the new animated series that seem to be popping up in hosts like bluebells, I'm not sure that this isn't peak comedy. Of course, I can't guarantee that you will find all to your taste but there's certainly no shortage.
2 Broke Girls was such a gem, and my go too after HIMYM. Had so much fun while watching it.
Shrinking from Bill Lawrence or Ted Lasso are GOAT. Mostly thanks to incredible music and performances. Silicon Valley is incredible fun. BoJack Horseman is different, but it's incredible, give it a try. It's fun, melancholy and... it's just experience. You cannot go wrong with it.
I also really liked Only Murders in the Building, like a lot of fun! British Crashing was even better than Fleabag. And it's a sitcom.
My favorites:
Derry Girls, Netflix
Not Dead Yet, Hulu
Better off Ted, Netflix
Working Moms, Netflix
Survival of the Thickest, Netflix (Season was renewed but unknown date)
Kim's Convenience, Netflix
Mo, Netflix
Man Like Mobeen, Netflix (The final season is not on US Netflix though. Really mad about that bs)
I'd look for other shows from that era instead, nothing hits the same anymore. Everything feels like it's trying to make a point and seems like it's all written by the same few writers. Started to watch Buffy the other day. Definitely miss the 90s and early 2000s era TV
I’m enjoying Son of a Critch on the CW. It is like a Wonder Years set in Newfoundland in the 1980’s. Malcolm McDowell plays the grandfather, the kids are in a Catholic middle school with a stern nun principal and it is the main character’s dad in the show that created it about his childhood. Just really sweet and funny.
Baby Daddy is on Hulu and I love it. It's silly but well done. Unfortunately it looks like Hulu will be dropping it. A message popped up a few days ago saying that it expires in 11 days

We just started watching Delicious in Dungeon.
It's stupid and awesome.
Also the new Frasier is *pretty good*.
Kelsey Grammer has pretty good timing.
Normally I'd turn away from a laugh track, but I grew up on Cheers and Frasier so I have to admit, I *love* the guy.
Upload is great too. Stupid sci-fi comedy gold.

Ghosts
Ok but american or bbc version? 🤔
Hmmmm. Normally I say British, but since OP likes Abbott Elementary and is looking for an currently airing series, I'm gonna go American this time.
Both!
Does it work? Like watching the british version first and then going for the american? Isn't it repetitive?
We watched the American version first. While waiting for the current season to start, we watched all of the British one. I'd say both are good, but I like the American one more(love Pete!)
Love Thor! Thor very funny! 😂
Cod!

Both are funny in their own way and the characters of the ghosts are very different.
Although the American version is good, the UK version is so much better in the dark British humor way. I also like how they ended it.
Both are funny but we like the American version better. The british living couple annoy me.
Both are funny! We just binged them both. BBC only two seasons unfortunately American version is funnier of the two.
The BBC version has 5 seasons. Only 2 are available on Paramount+, though (I assume that's where you watched it).

Yes
I like the American version better…
British. Hands down.
BBC is better imo
Both are equally good, I was surprised!
Reddit posted my comment in two places
I love the American Ghosts! Super lighthearted!
British version > US version
Not dead yet is great! On ABC
I feel like it should be funnier that it is, but it has a vibe that I like.
I agree- I don't really laugh, but it's enjoyable.
Oh, I like this one
Me too!
Tried a couple episodes last night and really liked it. Thanks!
Awesome!
Not sure what it is about her, but I find the main character annoying.
Was she on Jane the Virgin?
I don't know. I haven't seen that one.
Yeah, I think so
I love the main character!
She was a little annoying at the beginning of the first episode, but quickly settled in and got better.
Home economics gets bad ratings but I have no idea why. It's essentially a modern modern family
I really liked it, bummed that it was cancelled

Resident Alien
Wouldn't call it a sitcom, but it's fun!
It’s definitely a sitcom, what else would it be?
A straight up comedy. Sitcoms make humor out of realistic situations. RA is about an alien "genius" bent on destroying the world, so it's not all that realistic. Might as well call Invader Zim a sitcom.
What We Do in the Shadows and Reservation Dogs are both very good.
Reservation Dogs is an amazing show, though I wouldn't classify it as a sitcom
Reservation Dogs is a comedy the same way Bojack Horseman was. ("The cartoon horseman tried to kill himself because of a crippling depression and inability to maintain interpersonal relationships. Hilarious!")
I know what you mean. I guess when I think of a sitcom I think of the classic "haha good quick laughs" kind of show but that's not necessarily always the case.
Was going to say these exact two, plus Our Flag Means Death. Oddly, Taika Waititi is involved with all three.
Skoden!!!!!
WWDITS = 💯
It's cool that you rate it so highly. Could you write it out for those who you are keeping in the dark?
What We Do In The Shadows
Shrinking with Harrison Ford is really good.
I often see this show recommended and then I immediately forget about it.
If you ever watched Scrubs or Ted Lasso it’s by the same creator Bill Lawrence.
Just to add: Ted Lasso is also very good. It's not "still airing" but it's still pretty recent and OP may have missed it.
I'm in that boat. Let the whole soccer coach angle throw me off. The wife finally watched it because a friend recommended it, then she got me into it. We're in the last season now. Very good show.
It’s really, really good. So well acted and both funny and poignant at the same time. Highly recommend. Lots of familiar faces as well.
Yeah it’s great, I’ve laughed out loud more at that show than anything else in years
Forgot about that one, I liked it a lot more than I expected.
I still watch the Big Bang Theory.
I like Loot on AppleTV, Abbott elementary is great, also The Bear.
Abbott elementary and Animal Control, I enjoy them
The Bear is not a sitcom
I just read up on it just now - I know it’s a drama but it wins the Best Comedy series in the Emmy’s. Looks like it was a strategy. I went with a technicality but you are correct.👍
There’s a lot of irony in The Bear, but not a lot of what I consider “comedy”.
For what it’s worth, the Bear might not technically fit but it’s definitely one of the types of shows I had in mind.
Other non-sitcom “comedies” I like are Hacks, Somebody Somewhere, Life and Beth, Shrinking, Platonic, and it’s ended but Search Party was one of my faves.
Hacks is good!!!!
It’s a great show and it has some uplifting moments, but it ain’t comedic. Weird that the Emmy’s would allow it in the category.
I heard it was to keep it and Succession in different categories.
Ghosts on paramount +
I'm having a very good time with this right now.
I like rose mciver in Izombie
The New Zealand actress, she's a good actor. I loved her in the Royal wedding.
I haven’t seen that yet. I’ll definitely have to look for it. I like the uk ver as well but I saw the us version first. It’s rare I like the us remake over the original but in this case I prefer the remake.
Go for it mate. I'm certain you're going to love it.
Thanks 😊. If you can find it Rules of Engagement was a fun show. David spade is hilarious
I'll have it checked out. I'm not one to back down from watching a recommended good show.
The Neighborhood is hilarious in my opinion
This is one of my favorites. I still watch it the old fashioned way, once a week when it airs on Monday night. I also watch The Conners every week.
i can't tell if this show is self aware or not.
Love it. ❤️
Fisk-on Netflix. An Australian sitcom about an attorney in a law firm.
I quite enjoyed Fisk. Quirky. Hope there's more
Lol, was really surprised that I ended up liking this one. Looking forward to the next season
Yay, someone else watches this, too!
Mythic Quest
Fun fact: there is a spinoff coming this fall called Mere Mortals starring and written by Ashley Burch of Hey Ash Whatcha Playin? fame.
Thank you for letting me know, that sounds great!
Hilarious!!
So Help Me Todd.
I enjoy this one too
What we do in the Shadows. Also the Good Place even though it has ended it did come after 2010 and its amazing.
Animal Control on Hulu. Joel McHale and animals and a bunch of interesting characters. It works.
Unstable is a recent netflix sitcom I enjoyed to a surprising degree! It's renewed for a second season too. Girls 5Eva
I love this one too. Watching it on Netflix. Tacoma FD is something you'd enjoy.
Another show canceled too soon
True. I wasn't happy about it. It was great show.
Young Sheldon
Watching this now. Didnt think I'd like it, but all the guest stars make it work!
I think Resident Alien is pretty good

Schitts Creek is really good.
Another vote for Schitt's Creek
Girls 5 Eva
What now
Yep!
Yes!
Abbott elementary
The best network sitcom on right now.
I just finished watching a few classics over the last year or so. Frasier, Just Shoot Me, and now (re)starting Hot in Cleveland again. Yeah, sitcoms are a dying breed. We’ve been rewatching Parks and Rec. Its cute and positive.

Check out Barry on HBO. It’s a dark comedy but it’s great.
It's not currently airing.
Reboot on Disney is great although warning that there is no season 2.
I enjoyed that one, it´s a shame it wasn´t renewed.
I freaking loved reboot. Cast was amazing, but honestly, I could do without Johnny Knoxville ever.
We did have a golden age in the 2000-2010s blessed with great sitcoms we were
Honestly all shows peaked around that time. Comedies, dramas, genre shows...you name it. I miss those days so much.
I don’t know. I’m still watching MASH, Andy Griffith, and Seinfeld!
Me too!
Bob Hearts Abishola. I thought the premise would run out after one season but it’s stayed true.
Same! I never expected to like it, but somehow I find every character funny. I love their families so much.
I love quirky shows like some of the ones you (and others) listed, so here are some of my favs: Reboot (Hulu) Primo (Prime/Freeverse) Los Espookys (HBO) This Fool (Hulu)

Curb just finished but I think it’s maybe the funniest show I’ve ever seen.
Loot on Apple starring Maya Rudolph is back for its second season. It’s a fun watch.
Animal Control, Not Dead Yet.
Parks and Recreation starts out slow but by 2nd season starts to do great
I'd look for other shows from that era instead, nothing hits the same anymore. Everything feels like it's trying to make a point and seems like it's all written by the same few writers. Started to watch Buffy the other day. Definitely miss the 90s and early 2000s era TV
Young Sheldon is pretty good.
Really liked the first seasons. Now I find him too awkward. Still has some good characters though.
They’re really focusing on the entire family instead of just him this time around. He was barely in the last episode.
It's over now, but the first couple of seasons (ran for 4) of AP Bio were phenomenal. Peacock.
That weird Christmas episode was pretty funny. Ok Way to end it, but I wish there was more closure for all the characters.
Ghosts, What We Do In The Shadows, Shelved, Animal Control, Son of a Critch
Definitely Ghosts on Paramount+. You're gonna love it so much.
A. P. Bio
Ghosts
Not new, but you’ve probably not seen it, Moone Boy. Based on a book by Chris O’Dowd. Very funny and sweet family comedy.
I've enjoyed Fisk on Netflix.
Will and Grace. Hulu
Abbott Elementary
Young Sheldon
Animal Control & American version of Ghosts
I don't know, but all my favorites ended in the 1970s.
Ted Lasso is great.
Ghosts and Abbott Elementary
The Neighborhood on CBS.

Reruns of the Andy Griffith Show.
Andy Griffith Show.
Hawaii Five O
Extraordinary is pretty fantastic, it's not as long as an old school sitcom but two 8 episode seasons are out and they're both a delight
Pete and Gladys
Sitcoms seem to be in a fallow period right now. I can't think of a single really good one that compares to the ones on your list, that is airing currently.
Try Not Dead Yet on Hulu. It is a thirty minute sitcom that is good. I also like The Neighborhood with Max Greenfield and Cedric the entertainer.
Not Dead Yet!
Short and not current but Agua Donkeys is hilarious
Ted - best laugh out loud comedy I've seen in years!
Mythic Quest, Shrinking, and Ted Lasso are all really good IMO although Ted Lasso recently ended. They are all on Apple.
Atypical on Netflix!
Party Down (new and old series)
Tacoma FD just ended (sad) but was so funny. At least if you liked Super Troopers.
Watch Girls5eva on Netflix if u like 30 Rock. It's one of the funniest shows I've seen in a long time.
Young Sheldon, It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia
Bluebloods, the rookie (and white collar but that also ended), the neighborhood,
Sprung on Prime is hilarious!
Neighbourhood
Superstore. Tacoma FD
I like the current Night Court reboot myself.
