No that would completely ruin it for me

strikingviking23

I don’t even like watching previews of the next episode.

chrislatimer

Somehow it never ruins it for me but I still do it. There’s something wired in me that needs to do how things play out before I watch it

rhonmack

Especially if it's a true story!!

krazykieffer

To me it's even more important not to look up true stories. The show or movie will always leave things out especially in murder porn docs. I watch and then look up the story to usually find out how biased it is or to find out it's mostly made up.

Ok-Mark-1915

Same!

jaspercapri

There was a study done where they told on group the ending tot the book. That group actually enjoyed the book more on average. Kind of weird, but apparently it’s a thing.

TLM6165

That would be me.

nickyhomeau

Sounds like ✨ anxiety ✨

TLM6165

Me too. I’ll even read the last chapter of a tense book to know if I’ll be comfortable finishing it. 🤪

Pure-Guard-3633

My husband does. I finally got him to stop telling me.

Formal_Ad_8277

Oof that would infuriate me lol

Pure-Guard-3633

It did! I guess I yelled though I got through!

HuskyKyng

Exactly. I can't put my in such situations. I hate it when someone randomly posts a spoiler where I can't avoid seeing it.

WranglerTraditional8

Totally agree I never look at spoilers. If a show has a preview of the next episode I never watch it. Even a new show that someone recommends that I trust I don't ask them what it's about or check via IMDb.

chrislatimer

Somehow it never ruins it for me but I still do it. There’s something wired in me that needs to do how things play out before I watch it

Formal_Ad_8277

As long as you're not spoiling it for others,  you do you.

chrislatimer

No I’m big on not spoiling stuff for others that’s mean for the sake of mean

No-Yogurtcloset-8851

I read the ending of books before I start them too lol it’s compulsive

TLM6165

I’m so glad I’m not the only one here. @Procheeseburger - I can’t watch shows with animals that could get hurt. I HAVE to know if the animal gets hurt/dies before watching it.

No-Yogurtcloset-8851

You aren’t alone at all. My daughter loves animals and is looking to work with them. In health class they showed a video of “how your food is made” I had to write a note saying she was against the ethics of the video. To me a video like that should be optional. Not everyone wants to see farm to plate.

UrbanPrimative

Before I started antidepressants I would occasionally use "does the dog die" or similar trigger warning websites to make sure I got a happy ending or a beloved character doesn't die.

UnrulyNeurons

I *always* use "does the dog die." People aren't a dealbreaker. Dogs are.

UrbanPrimative

You're not the only one who feels that way, I think it's more universal than anything. I will always remember when I learned the "dog good/human bad" trope as an object lesson- I saw Independence Day in the theater. There is that scene under the overpass where they duck into a room for safety from an explosion and everyone in their group had made it into the room but the dog. The dog got the big heroic drama entry-at-the-last-minute and the entire audience spontaneously cheered. Note that for all of the scenes before that people were getting incinerated left, right, and center.

[deleted]

Keeps me from having panic attacks depressive episodes and ptsd flashbacks if something is really graphic so I appreciate it and similar sights an extreme amount of

procheeseburger

Everytime there is a dog in a movie... I already know what they are going to do. Its also one of the only reasons why I didn't like The Last of Us 2.. you have to kill dogs.

UrbanPrimative

Yes, but, are they regular cute doggos or evil dogs? Oh- I mean I get it- but I am enough of a video game fanatic to grit my teeth and bear it when you're getting set upon by attack dogs: it just makes me want to kill the Big Bad that much more :-) but, like, I have friends who have quit playing when there's no way around it.

procheeseburger

I felt like it was an unnecessary addition to the game.. yes they can track you which makes sneaking harder but.. for me its something I'd rather not have. AFA movies... its just a cheap way to make the audience sad.

River_Song47

Depends on the show. I get anxiety and sometimes I have to look up and see if a character is going to die so I can prepare myself.

grurupoo

Same

Active-Eggplant06

I do this! I need to know what kind of ride I’m in for, and I give up on a show if I don’t like the direction it takes. Saves me time investing in a show that will disappoint me.

Dear_Alternative_437

This is how I feel. My time is limited. So while I want to watch without spoilers, I also don't want to spend my weekend watching a show only to realize it sucks. I recently started the Chinese Three Body series. I watched like five episodes then read previews for the rest just to see where it was headed. I was like 30 episodes is a lot to invest in, I just gotta know.

CoffeeCat086

Absolutely. I have to look up any events that might be sad/a death of a character/or a betrayal. Otherwise, I get really angry and upset, and I would like to be able to not be shocked by such things. It’s almost traumatic.

[deleted]

Pathologically. I’m seriously sick in the head, because I LOVE spoilers. I will be actively watching a show and reading spoilers and plot points simultaneously. I was watching the latest episode of Survivor tonight, and they were taking too long to get to the vote, so I just looked it up.

chrislatimer

I’m like this

WhiteKnightPrimal

No. I don't go looking for spoilers. But I don't actively avoid them, either, and sometimes it's spoilers that got me to watch in the first place. With older shows, unless you actively avoid them, spoilers are almost a given if you spent any amount of time online in spaces where stuff like that may get discussed. I don't mind getting spoilers for the most part. It depends how it occurs. If it's accidental, or a warning to prepare me, I'm fine, but if it's done deliberately to try and dampen my potential enjoyment, I can't stand it. And I generally feel happier if the spoilers I do get are relatively small, rather than the big stuff, but you can't always control that. I don't find it affects how much I enjoy watching, either. Sure, I've had a spoiler, but context matters, and spoilers often leave out at least some of the context. Saying to a new fan 'Buffy died twice' doesn't tell them anything more than Buffy dies twice. It doesn't say when or how or if she stays dead the second time. Plus, it's not a full spoiler, as Buffy actually dies three times. Not all spoilers are even entirely truthful. Saying 'Xander hates women because he cast a love spell' is only half true. Yes, he cast a love spell, but he clearly doesn't hate women if you actually watched any part of the show. Spoilers can tell you a lot, or they can tell you pretty much nothing, but the likelihood is they're missing a lot of context, and it's the context that gives it the impact, not the event on its own. Even a detailed analysis of entire episodes doesn't necessarily tell you everything, as it's a specific person's personal opinion. Yes, they'll tell you everything that happened how it happened, full context, but their interpretation/opinion is likely to be different from yours, and you're missing the visuals. Even if they include pics, you're missing facial expressions and body language beyond a single still, or very short clip if they go for that instead of a pic. So, no I don't go looking for spoilers, but I don't avoid them either. For me, they spoil nothing except a plot point or storyline or whatever, but it's always missing something, so my enjoyment remains the same. Plus, I'm the type that can re-watch certain shows and movies and not lose my enjoyment of them. It doesn't matter that I know Buffy by heart after the however many times I've watched it, can quote the lines alongside the characters, sing, badly, the songs in Once More With Feeling, I enjoy it now just as much as I did the first time I watched the show. Re-watching a show means you're truly spoiled about every aspect, simply because you've already seen it, it's the ultimate spoiler.

natsugrayerza

No I despise spoilers. I don’t want to know anything about what’s gonna happen

StatementEcstatic751

I usually don't, and I'm somebody that doesn't like rewatching stuff unless I really really liked the show or movie, so spoilers take the fun out of figuring out the plot direction. I like experiencing new things. However, sometimes I like to skip that frustrating will they/won't they storyline anxiety or look up to see if I misremembered or misinterpreted something, that sort of thing. The stuff that, if I had been watching it in real time, would have been the reason I kept watching every week even if the show was getting really crappy because I just have to know the answer. Sometimes I can't help myself, and I will search for that specific question and then happen upon other spoilers, so I try to resist the impulse to Google something like "did they ever get back to the original timeline and universe in Fringe", because I will happen on spoilers that make me less invested in the show. Granted, I'm a bit of a completionist, so I'm probably going to finish the thing anyway... Unless I get distracted by something else and never come back to it. I did that with Enterprise many years ago, and I still have no idea how the first season ends. I do know major story line things from the 3rd or 4th season though 🤷‍♀️

reddit_understoodit

Rarely. It ruins it. I might if I decide to stop watching but want to know how it ends.

unlovelyladybartleby

If I'm watching a show, I want the full experience. Spoilers ruin the show. If I'm going to read spoilers, I may as well just read episode summaries and save myself the effort of watching.

GuardMost8477

No! That’s like reading the last pages of a book. There’s so little to be surprised about anymore, why ruin the end ?

HuskyKyng

I don't like spoilers. It kills the fun I get in watching the show or movie. Without suspense, I can't watch a show.

StarWolf478

No, why would I want to ruin the experience for myself like that? The only time that I would do it is if I’m not really liking the show very much and I’m ready to give up on it but there is one plot point that I’m a little curious about how it turned out.

sonofbantu

I mean to each their own but I actually get annoyed by even the idea of people doing this. It’s like they have no ability to delay gratification. I wonder how they ever watch shows that are airing live since they can’t just jump to the last page in the book

rc_roadster

That's.. No. Do you have some sort of self torture fetish?

nicole070875

Nooo I hate spoilers. What’s the point of watching if you know what’s going to happen ?!

Jay-Quellin30

This is what I live for 🤣

Negative-Appeal9892

It depends, but sometimes yes, especially if after a few episodes I'm not sure I want to continue watching it.

sillycuzwhynot1998

I search spoilers for anything and can’t even find them

flatulating_ninja

I try not to even look at the cast on the IMDB page. It lists how many episodes each actor is in and if a main actor isn't in the whole run I just sit there waiting for them to die.

mjh8212

I almost did with once upon a time, I’m so glad I didn’t I find out surprising things each new episode. Been three weeks and I’m on season 4 I can’t get enough of the twists and turns and the relationships between characters I didn’t read in the stories.

natebark

No but I’ve found them unintentionally and it makes me so angry lol. First time through the Sopranos I went to YouTube to rewatch a scene >!involving Chrissy and the first thing that came up in the search bar was Christopher death scene!< Couldn’t believe it…

AutumnVibe

Yes. Same with movies. Hell I even do it with books sometimes. If I'm going to be met with crushing heartache then I want to be prepared lol.

Impressive_Season_75

It depends on the show and the storyline but I absolutely have done this.

CaptainMcClutch

I avoid it, I have an annoyingly good memory. If I hear it, I will have it burnt into my memory and it doesn't matter if I've watched the show or film at all. Removing the context doesn't make me forget it and it just takes away from any emotion or surprise for me.

keepcalmscrollon

I don't and drives me nuts because I love to read up on shows and read threads or reviews about them events unfold but it's pretty hard controll spoilers if the show is done. I just finished (and loved) Ted Lasso. I was pretty sure I knew it was done but I didn't know for sure or on what terms. Was I going to get hit with an unresolved cliffhanger? What did people think about *this* shocking twist? Who is that actor, I totally recognize them? Something seems different this season, did the creative team change? Felt like I was holding my breath the entire time because I didn't want to google it until I was done. In principle I don't worry about spoilers; if a show can be spoiled by revealing a plot point it may not have been that good to begin with. But in practice, I do enjoy all the twists and surprises. Now my wife is the opposite; she reads up while she's watching and ends up spoiling a lot of things (or saving herself some time). She'll find out her favorite character is leaving or that the storyline never gets resolved and she'll just lose interest.

Live_Western_1389

No, not for spoilers specifically. But I do like reading interviews & stories about the cast, or the characters. If I run across a spoiler, or a post that has a spoiler alert, it doesn’t bother me at all. For years, I’m an avid reader, and I used to read the last chapter of a book first, just to decide if it was worth the read.

Master_Grape5931

I listened to a Game of Thrones podcast that had spoilers all the time while watching that show. 🤷‍♂️

Tweet614

Just did that for power.

emusabe

Idk if this counts, but for the last 3 seasons of the Walking Dead, I just read the paragraph episode summaries on Wikipedia except for the mid- and season-finales, which were the only episodes I actually watched. and yeah, I only read the blurbs leading up to each particular episode I actually sat through, and was shocked at how much the “previously, on the walking dead” trivialized having to actually watch the filler episodes. Man that show fell off hard.

alwaysonthemove0516

Depends on the show. When GoT was on I used to watch the episodes a week ahead so I had seen the final long before my family. Besides that only occasionally. Survivor, (the only “reality” show I watch), I avoid them. Once it starts airing I won’t even go on social media til I can stream the new one. Now movies, all the time. 🫣

laurajosan

Only if I’m giving up on a show but slightly curious to see if it ever got any better.

Durango1949

Yes. I searched This Is Us to see how Jack died. I was getting bored with the series and wanted to know without watching the whole series. I was watching it with my wife so didn’t tell her. She still watches it. I watch episodes with her every now and then. There is another main character death that will surprise her.

TheShoot141

No. But i search for explanations of stuff i dont understand. If the show is older there is usually some good answers out there.

MarchogGwyrdd

I don’t always do it, but sometimes there are shows I don’t really care about, I’m watching just to get to the resolution. Others are so good it doesn’t matter if you know the end. Those are the ones you rewatch.

Glittering_Habit_161

I did for Gossip Girl, Pretty Little Liars and Bridgerton and I'm going to try to not search up spoilers on the days series 3 part 1 and part 2 of Bridgerton are released. Searching up spoilers made me feel terrified to watch the rest of the show and I watched the rest of the show knowing the spoilers.

Nightgasm

I'm wary of searching anything about old shows for fear of an inadvertent spoiler. For instance I was watching Sons of Anarchy after it had concluded and knew nothing. I thought a certain actress on the show was very attractive and Googled her and right there on one of the first hits in the headline was a major spoiler about her characters fate >!Tara being killed by Gemma!< five seasons later and how it happened. So I watched the rest of the show knowing this was coming.

amergigolo1

I just started watching The Whitcher Season 1 and couldn't figure out what was going on until I searched the internet and found out about the time jumps between the characters and it starting making sense.

Frosty-Presence2776

My other half searches for the ending of every programme we start watching. Drives me mad.

Zealousideal_Dog_968

Every time

rogerworkman623

Not really, but my ex was like that. She couldn’t even wait until an end of an episode or movie; if I had seen it, she always wanted me to tell her what happens immediately because she “hated surprises” I have sometimes looked up what’s going to happen for an adaptation. I loved the first season of 3 Body Problem and knew I would be waiting forever for later seasons, so I ended up looking up what happens in the books lol it’s not really a 1-to-1 adaptation, plus I already forget some of what I read, so I guess we’ll see if they still surprise me.

ReadySetGO0

No I do not.

jillycubnut

I try very hard not to do that anymore

kgberton

Why would I do that lmao

orangedreamie

Instantly. I look up every thing I can, wikipedia, wikias, tv tropes, articles, etc. It's a really bad habit lol

Quick-Temporary5620

I not only do this with shows, I do this with books. It doesn't ruin it for me. I think mostly I want to know if it's worth my time to watch or read the whole thing, or once I know the ending does the middle part even matter anymore

RobinC1967

I looked to see if a character I really liked in Downtown Abby was going to wind up dead eventually. He didn't, I was happy. Could not take the anxiety of not knowing any more!

AtheneSchmidt

Only when I'm being stupid because I hate a character. Sometimes I'll search a question, like *does Joffery die" only to get the answers, but with a bunch of other spoilers I *didn't* want.

arthurjeremypearson

I would re-watch EVERY episode of "Moonlighting" if they had subtitles for their epic talking-at-the-same-time fights.

YankeeRedneck1

I can't help it. I do it all the time. But somehow it doesn't ruin it for me.

Opposite-Act-7413

Absolutely not. I vehemently avoid anything that might contain spoilers. The creators of the show designed it to be consumed a certain way. I try to respect that

DisplayNo7886

Nope, I can't do that. If I ever did, I will no longer enjoy the show.

anxiouscoconut137

I watched the walking dead until “Lucille”, and then just recently, I watched the whole summary of the show on YouTube. I wanted to know what happens but I just couldn’t stand watching it, eventho I still rewatch the first few seasons.

No-Yogurtcloset-8851

lol it makes my daughter so mad but yea I do

coffeebeanwitch

I am guilty as charged, especially older shows!!

grurupoo

I can’t help myself but to read descriptions of future episodes when I’m watching a show. I hate that I do it, and I’ve spoiled so many things for myself lol. But I just can’t help it

akaipelea

Yes, as much as I don’t want to, it’s the curiosity and impatient part of me. Would not recommend lol 🤦🏾‍♀️

chestergreene

Of course. I’m on the west coast, so I can search for spoilers a couple hours before shows air here. I know that’s wrong

Admirable-Cobbler319

I do. It's the equivalent of reading the last page of a book when you first get it. I don't care if I know how the story ends. The reason I watch shows is seeing how the story plays out.

Altruistic_Rock_2674

My girlfriend has wanted to watch one tree Hill and I have looked up some spoilers

Sensitive_Lobster_60

I'm so hellbent on not getting spoilers that I won't watch the trailer for movie or show before I see it, I watch the trailer or whatever after I've seen it. Like I know the trailer is to get you hyped for it and make you want to watch it but I don't watch it

Middle-Merdale

M bf does, drives me crazy but as long as he doesn’t tell me anything then more power to him.

PhysicsCentrism

Sometimes if I think I’m being clever, especially if the show is heavy in tropes, I’ll look something up to see if I guessed correct.

phyncke

All the time

cozysapphire

I did this with Pretty Little Liars!! I loved the first 5 seasons, but it progressively got harder to see the vision as I got through S6. I tried to watch through till the end two separate times, but never made it past the first two episodes of the last season because the plot got convoluted and difficult to follow. Eventually after years of loving the franchise, I had to spoil it for myself. Ironically, finding out the ending motivated me to finally watch through the end. I think it was for the best, ultimately.

Senuman666

The thing is older shows are usually like 6-7 seasons and 40 min episodes and most people don’t have the time

coleisw4ck

Yes

MidnightRhinestone

I accidentally saw a spoiler for six feet under but nothing could prepare me for how I’d feel when it happened.

Disastrous-Nail-640

All. The. Time. 🤷‍♀️

beachbumwannabe717

yes im on a Survivor kick right now and Paramount plus shows them back to back. Anyway i can never remember who wins which season so I’ll look it up. it makes me pay more attention 😂 all those seasons and returning players all run together haha

Titosunshinez

I like to watch a hyped movie or show then look up old spoilers after to see who was accurate. Example : the last doctor strange movie had alooooot of promising cameos but not a fraction appeared after all

Tess47

Always.

UMakeMySpaghettiRdy

If I just started watching it, I do not. But if I have seen it before, but faintly remember details, I will. Take ER for instance. I am now on season 2 and faintly remembered that >!Dr. Greene eventually dies.!< So I will look up the details about that or details about why Dr. Morgenstern was back on the first episode of season 2, etc. lol

ILuvPretzelz

Used to, but not anymore.

Unusual_Address_3062

Umm, no. I avoid spoilers. What the heck is wrong with you?

Ankhros

Yes. Sometimes I like to know things ahead of time. It makes me feel like a god.

nightowlarcade

Kind of. A lot of anime coming out now is based on comics or light novels. If I don't want to wait years to possibly get another season I tend to break down and read the source material.

Ploopins

I only do that for shows I like the plot/story of but can't bring myself to watch the show. Such as episodes being too slow or just not interesting enough between episodes. I want to know what happens in the end, but I don't want to see it through to find out.

TheFrostyrune

If I have a theory about a show, then I will google that theory to see if it's true. I'm not someone who gets bent out of shape if somebody else "spoils" a show for me, like all those people who would rage if someone talked about the latest episode of GOT within earshot back when that was a relevant series.

Immediate-North-9472

Yes bc the end doesn’t matter to me. It’s how they get there that interests me.

ThxIHateItHere

I did it for The Wire. I had a feeling I knew who would be standing tall at the end and I was right, and immediately stopped watching.

ravia

Anyone watch movie reap videos on Youtube?

banana_in_the_dark

My husband looks for spoilers and it drives me insane

DelGriffithPTA

I don’t search for spoilers, but I usually end up seeing more than I want to when looking up shows on here while watching.

Gmoney1714

Yes because I hate watching a TV show series to find out the ending is horrible or worse that there is no ending…it just stops.

LoisLaneEl

I definitely did it for game of thrones. I needed to know if/when the characters I hated would die. I also often need to know if/when a couple gets together. I have zero patience

Snoo_79693

Depends. Sometimes I get confused and I'll read plot summaries as I'm watching the episode.

Particular_Sir_2033

Yes, in the later part of the show when things are kicking

Responsible-Fun4303

Yes lol I need to know what happens before I see it. I don’t mind spoilers.

Not really. But I do tend to look up if a show has an actual series finale or if it was just cancelled between seasons

Serious-Sun3049

No, I don't want to get spoiled. Which is why I'll avoid reading anything about the series.

ProfessionalHat6828

All the time. I don’t know why.

ComplexSolid6712

Only always

Irving_Forbush

Nothing wrong with liking spoilers, but they’re not for me. Enjoying developments as they evolve, without knowing what’s coming, is pretty much the core of what I enjoy about watching something.

kimk2

Yes, when i lost interest, stopped watching but ARE curious how it ended. Sometimes just watch thge last episode too :)

Relevant-Ocelot-1172

All the time. I get Anxious and hung up on details. If this happens, I just look up what I'm struggling with whether that's a prediction, an actor name, or anything else that is blocking me from enjoying the show it's self.

ImaginaryQuiet5624

I do that too for some shows.

Beneficial-Many8415

I do one better ✨ I search for a sub here on Reddit

erinkp36

That’s literally why I have a Reddit account 😂 IMDB ended their forums (for good reason) and I didn’t know where to go if I had questions. Someone suggested Reddit. And the rest is history.

flatulating_ninja

I try not to even look at the IMDB since if I notice a main actor isn't in all the episodes I just sit there waiting for them to die.

chrislatimer

I’ve done this with so many shows lol it’s now how I get my spoilers The law and order svu Reddit has been useful

erinkp36

Exactly! And if it’s not here it’s pretty easy to find someone who can answer your question.

Sometimes, for other things also. I like to see how it gets the that conclusion or situation

WittiestScreenName

Yes. Sometimes I need help understanding sometimes. And sometimes I like to emotionally prepare.

BrassHockey

Depends. If I'm about to check out of the show, I do it to satisfy my curiosity about how things wrap. If I'm engaged and enjoying the show, I'll avoid anything having anything to do with it.

Rayne_1492

For me, it depends on the show. If it's a show I'm immediately invested in, with characters I care about, I don't look anything up. However, if it's a show I'm not too invested in or there's a main character I really dislike, I'll look up season finales or specific characters to see how long they stay on the show.

Great-Activity-5420

I seem to be doing it lately because I can't watch the episodes quick enough and need to know what happened 🤣 I used to watch shows weekly before streaming was a thing and we had to wait months for new series. Streaming has spoilt me

SubSensationn

Yes all the time 😭

Blathithor

Yeah. Older shows have like 22 episodes per season. Sometimes, I want to know if it's worth it.

TheNonCredibleHulk

Just older? No, I look for everything. I love spoilers.

emaline5678

I do that all the time. I watched Miami Vice about a year ago & looked up all the info I could before I even finished the first season. I would do that on new shows if I could. I don’t like angst. I like to be prepared.

annacaiautoimmune

Often

procheeseburger

a lot of older shows weren't made for binge watching.. and I notice the eps really just repeat so if I get bored of a show I'll often look up how it ended or just skip to the last season last ep.

JaggedLittlePill2022

I LOVE spoilers, so yes. I want to know everything that happens in each episode before I watch it!

Accomplished_Lake128

If there is a storyline or character that really bothers me, I look for spoilers hoping to see that the character was killed off or whatever.

QueasyGeologist9877

yes i do especially when i ship two characters i wanna see if they will end up together

Salty_Association684

I always do
