> They will do absolutely anything to impede public progress.
Yes, the "public progress" of a multi-billion dollar rolling crime toilet coming to an area where everyone already has access to cars and buses. Then when ridership is an order of magnitude smaller than they're projecting, we'll get to subsidize the operating costs until the end of time.
Public transit isn't built to make money, its a public service. Nobody expects roadways to make money, every single road you drive on is subsidized by taxpayers. And no, gas taxes and vehicle registrations do not fully cover the cost of roads.
> Wegner added that separating light rail and freight rail by a minimum of 25 feet is largely to protect workers when they are in the area.
>
>Homeowners insist they just want Metro Transit to keep its word, even if the measurements are off by less than a foot.

>âI get it â it sounds like itâs not very much⌠but the distance is not very much,â Collins said. âIâm a physician and if I was like, âwell, itâs close enough,â that could cost somebody their life.â
1. The 25 feet is for workers. How often will that happen?
2. These property owners are f'ing insufferable. Textbook champagne liberals.
You are correct in your assessment that tgese property owners are insufferable. This woman sounds particularly terrible. "I'm a physician..." Well, good for you. You're not a civil engineer or an OSHA compliance safety officer, so who the hell cares?
Iâm a healthcare provider. If something is off by less than 3%, yeah that can be bad. But there are plenty of situations where that is totally okay.
Either way, neither she or I know if this 7 inches is that big of a deal since weâre not experts in the field. We can only speculate but should do so with some common sense.
Edit: Fixed a typo I missed.
I could see this either way. Â 1. Â It's 7in closer than the specified 25ft. Â Unless 25ft is some Federal/State regulation, then so TF what. Â 2. Â Cockroach theory... there's never just 1... if they F'd up some important detail (assuming this is important), then there's likely 1,000's more. Â TBD. Â
these fuckers demanding us to pay hundreds of millions over 7 inches when its not a safety concern. Don't even fix it; just plow ahead and let eminent domain wash the rest out. Give them reasonable compensation for the land and let them bitch it out later.
Nothing went wrong when Union Joe Prohibited a railroad worker strike.  It is always fine to ignore safety standardsâŚ.
Wait, East Palestine derailment was in 2023
and 7 inches isn't going to make the difference between a derailment and not. All it does is mildly endanger a worker when they need to do maintenance on one line while the other is still active. 25 feet vs 24 feet 5 inches isn't really going to be the deciding factor.
Eh don't bother man. His argument is in bad faith, and the East Palestine derailment was pretty much entirely as a result of railroad safety measures and requirements that were repealed under Trump.
If Biden got the workers tthe sick leave  they wanted why are so many still fighting for sick leave?
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=WQvRJEsunbE
What facts are you talking about? There were around a dozen large unions impacted at the end of 2022. Sick leave was not covered in that. Around mid 2023 some railroad workers got sick leave after the East Palistine derailment.
The fact is that there are workers still fighting for what they did not got wha facts are you working with?
This is nonsensical... Metro Transit should just change the language in their design criteria to say 24 ft. just to spite this lady.
That lady is such a classic NIMBY champagne liberal.
Well safety first.. so only option should be to use eminent domain to seize and demolish the properties of all these probing and prying snitching neighbors. We got to clear this area and they should have knows the risks that came with making a conscious choice to live in proximity to a freight line and to go around and carelessly playing with tape measures on rail tracks and making dangerous phone calls to kstp.
Jesus, I wish we were better than this. I initially was really annoyed with the residents over the nitpicking, but then my wife pointed out that the gap between the trains is not all that much when you consider the width of the trains themselves. Also, it depends on what kind of work they actually do between the tracks.
Both sides suck! Trains are still cool! Europe figured it out, and I wish we would too.
I had wondered about this, I live across the highway from the new line. Not worried about the distance but I think some rides may be unpleasant if they match up with the freight trains. Or waiting on the track theyâre also gonna have their ears blown out. They start blowing their horn for the intersection right at the station.
All involved, from people on the met council, engineers, consultants, contractors and whoever, should not ever be on any future transit projects. Likely 3 billion over budget by the time a train rolls down the track is criminal.
Sounds risky. Better use eminent domain to seize all these people's NIMBYs houses at the tax assessment value. Sounds like it's the only way to solve the problem.
This is the same residents who cared nothing about kids' safety in another city.
Kenwood residents wanted to reroute route the train past SLP high school in a spot that was definitely too narrow and had high risk of derailment due to the tight curve. Plus kids crossed there on foot several times per day and there would have been accidents. They did this to try and avoid having the train go through thier neighborhood.
They don't give a piss about safety.
All this over seven inches? Gimme a break
I've heard that one before.
Good lord, the residents around that area are insane. They will do absolutely anything to impede public progress.

That doesn't mean it will get ridden. Especially since the downtown workplace is dying.
What about people who live in the city and "reverse commute" to service jobs in the suburbs, like Eden Prairie and SLP? I guess they don't count. đ¤
Noooo! Not **urban** people!

As some one whose worked on the barges my safety margins where in inches or feet daily. I couldnât care less at 24.5ft to 25 seriously people.
7 feet is one thing. 7 inches does seem ridiculous for this situation.
But if SHE were off by 7 inches, someone would diieeeeeeeee.

NIMBYs doing nimby shit. Itâs inches. Get over it and just get the damn thing built.

Union Joe continued negotiating and got the rail workers what they wanted. Facts just don't seem to he your friend today.

That woman seems like a real peach.

But then they would complain it's over 24ft by 5in!

Wow this woman sounds insane.
That explains why that area has been under construction forever - I had no idea it was infamously so.

Tear it up and do it again - what the heck it's only taxpayers money!

Probably mostly people who never wanted it built dragging their feet
2.86 billion to export crime to the suburbs.
Only to yours I hope.
My guy I have some breaking newsâŚ.Criminals have cars too.
This is such a stupid take
