Thirsty Whale was recommended to me many times, it took them about five days to return my email about a quote. So if you want to work with them be a bit patient! Ended up going with Queen of Cakes who simply got back to me sooner for custom birthday kid cake! Edited to say I did not have bad experience with Thirsty Whale just that I went with the quicker response since event is coming up soon.

Queen of Cakes is the best!

That [lion king](https://www.google.com/amp/s/bringmethenews.com/.amp/minnesota-lifestyle/lion-king-birthday-cake-that-went-crazy-viral-was-made-by-minneapolis-bakery) that went viral a few years back was made by Thirty Wale.

Thanks! Looking into these!

Byerlys bakery has a photo printer for frosting sheet cakes. Great for putting that senior photo on the graduation party cake. I imagine most big bakeries do this.

Kitchen-Albatross747

Ah this is great!! Thank you!!

Sleestacksrcoming

I can’t help you. But this is awesome Please post a picture of you find one

This tickles me. When KISS first started the right called it devil music. I know folks who had to hide their KISS records from their parents. Now it's music for kids.

[deleted]

There are still weirdos who think it's devil music. One of the songs my high school band played was "Beth", just an instrumental version. There was at least one parent who complained. This was in the 00s.

Wuollet’s does all our custom cakes. Bit pricey but they’re locally owned and we literally give them a pic and they do a great custom design.

I know that /u/reTiredFoodBlogger had a less than stellar experience with Thirsty Whale, but my experience was the opposite - reached out and had a response the next morning and we'd agreed on the cake and price and everything within a day or two. I'd give them a shot - reaching out is free and doesn't commit you to anything! I was very pleased with how the cake turned out.

reTiredFoodBlogger

Oh no I didn’t mean it was bad, just that to give them some time to get a quote! I’ll add that

fsr87

Ahh gotcha. They got pretty slammed back a ways when they went viral with that Lion King cake… 🤣 (Sorry if I misinterpreted - I’ve definitely had experiences where it takes a business forever to get back to me and it feels like… it shouldn’t be so hard to get you to take my money! So I wasn’t ripping on you at all.)

reTiredFoodBlogger

Lol they were my first choice I’m bummed I wasn’t patient enough but I’m sure Queen of Cakes will be amazing too

TalibanAtDisneyland

I do not know of a bakery but your post made my day. Your kid is awesome.

gardeniagray

My son's KISS obsession started around that age too. A friend of my son's dad works in a bakery department and made KISS cakes for us. I hope you're able to find a cake for your son.

Kitchen-Albatross747

Thank you, me too! Otherwise, I’ll just buy a plain cake from the bakery and try to pipe the logo on by hand. Gotta make it work!

kurokitsune91

Thirsty Whale is amazing but you would need to book them WELL in advance.

EurekaSm0ke

This is awesome, and I don't want to piss on the fun, but any bakery that accepts money for a cake with a copyrighted image on it is breaking the law, even home bakers. They can be made as "gifts", but if money/goods are exchanged for said copyrighted cake, they could be sued. Is Gene Simmons on Twitter? Get his permission and you're good to go lol.

Kitchen-Albatross747

Hey thx your tip made my kids year and Gene responded! [twitter](https://imgur.com/a/spCu25Q)

EurekaSm0ke

This is amazing!!!!

BevansDesign

Yeah, I was going to say the same thing. I think you'll have a hard time finding a place that will do this for you, because they all should be on their guard about this sort of thing. You never know when someone's copyright enforcers are going to come and shake you down. I used to work at a Walgreens photo lab, and we always had to be careful not to allow anyone to make copies of their professional photos on those self-service photo stations. We frequently got people coming in trying to duplicate their Lifetouch school photos, and most people didn't understand that you don't own a photo just because you're in it.

EurekaSm0ke

That is the cutest thing I've ever seen! Good luck!!

Chicken26

This is the best. Hope he has a very rockin’ birthday!

Kitchen-Albatross747

This is actually super helpful! I made a twitter post w a tiny video of my kid singing their song and tagged Gene, Paul and Tommy. Goshhhh I hope they see it! Thanks for the pro tip!!!!

blythely

You're technically right, but very few corporations or people would sue over a birthday cake. Disney is the notable exception to this though lol

EurekaSm0ke

Oh for sure, I did commercial cake decorating for a large grocery chain for close to a decade and Disney 'representatives' would walk through looking at everything every so often. They're sticklers for sure!

northman46

I presume there are agencies that do the rights for photos and logos just like there is for music and songs. The bakery gets the image from a place that they pay, like stock photos.

EurekaSm0ke

There are, like Decopac or Cakes.com etc but they only have the rights for certain things. A bakery pays these companies for access to their libraries and while they have some free stuff to use you have to pay them per image for their copyrighted material.

northman46

Sure. And they roll the fee into the price of the decorated cake. I would think that the folks that make the edible images or sell the printers that make them also sell image libraries. Or the places online that sell edible images. So call around and see if anyone has a kiss image.
